I like this format, but one thing I'd like to see is, at the end of the day, put the guest driver back in the Miata, to see how much faster they are.

The reason max went slow in the lotus is definitely 1. Because he was terrified of making a mistake
2. Because everyone around him threatened him if something bad happened to the lotus
They really made him fear the ride... which I think is something you shouldn't do.
Max should be a Top Gear host, that would be incredible 😅 His "across the line" was perfect for the grand tour 😂
He's even commentating while he himself is driving. That's pretty good!

I'd be interested in seeing how much Max improved in the slow car too.
I feel like Max was driving very well but lost most of the time on the start, the launch control took that away and he got this great time. Very entertaining video!
We need more of these collabs, maybe build a leaderboard Top Gear style. Some good shouts would be Alex Kersten (Auto Alex), Mat Armstrong, Jimmy Broadbent. They'd be good for the top spot I reckon, then you could get more personalities like Max in there, like Harry (W2S) as he does some Go-Karting, Tom Scott could be funny too.

It’s so tough in the wet at Rockingham - the tarmac is ultra smooth and so slippery when it’s wet. Max did well for a novice - great video!

Imagining Max driving his 3 cylinder 1L VW after this is hilarious. Must’ve felt like he was driving through syrup
drove my moms new hyundai with an "automatic" transmission after only ever driving manual cars.
wanted to floor it in 3rd and instantly the car rocks forward and slows.
I thought something broke before(after like a second) the engine suddenly howled(squealed really), because the fucking thing downshifted into second AT FUCKING 50km/h.
So I think "okay let me put into manual mode."
so I get going and go up to third, floor it and it FUCKING DOWNSHIFTED again!!!
there really are stark differences in cars.
In my moms brandnew shitbox you can't even connect a phone without the car being completely off and noooooo, start-stop with the engine turned off at a red light doesn't work either.

I love this series but I think at the end of the video, have Scott drive the fastest car with the guest to show just how fast the car is.

Clearly Max learned where the absolute limit stood when he spun the Caterham for the last time, but Scott was also a hell of a tutor, he was giving really good and concise directions and was also clearly invested in helping Max get better lap times

It just shows how much subaru awd gives especially in somewhat moisy conditions. You just can floor it as much as you want without wheelspin.

What about the opposite of this? Give someone slow a car to do a lap and then make Scott’s cars worse until he’s slower. Just how bad a car does it have to be for Scott to be worse

If you guys are going to get guests in more often then you should certainly be having them all set a lap time in the same car and have a leaderboard for their times. You could call it something like "Star in a reasonably paced car" (or maybe something a bit more different to that to avoid a call from the BBC lawyers).
