I had my first conversation today, with Mike. I had solved my problem before I called him, but as I am a licensed General Contractor, not a licensed Plumbing Contractor, I chose to make the call I had set up with him via email. While not quite like hitting the Lottery, it’s darn close to it. He is a wealth of knowledge concerning the entire Rannai tankless water heater line of products. This is the only tankless line of products he installs, and services. I had hoped for a 10-15 minute call, I got an hour. It was an hour of not only what to look at to make sure my problem didn’t return, but what to look at if it did. I’m in a very rural County in California. Very near Yosemite National Park. I could have been down the street from him in Florida, or in Alaska. If you have an issue with your Rannai unit, and you want to self diagnose and repair it yourself, start with the entire line of Utube videos from Mike, the Rannai guy. Also, when all else fails, read the instructions. If they don’t answer your question, he gives you an email address to contact him, then answers you same day, with a cell number, to call him to talk you through the issue you have. No kidding folks, he is the GUY, he lives, breathes these units, and is who you need to help you. Contact him BEFORE you buy, or hire someone local to do your install, he can give you very valuable info in choosing the unit, and someone to do the install, or guide you on doing it yourself. You need a pretty high level of experience in plumbing and electrical, and how to properly vent the unit through the roof, or out a side wall. I am completely competent to do my own work, but the thing to know is that those who are like me do not have umteen years of diagnosing problems with these units. That’s what differentiates Mike from guys like me. He is on the phone, just like he is in his videos. It was a real eye opener to meet a guy, that is exactly who you think he would be, even if it’s on the phone. Buy a Rannai, contact him if you hit a speed bump. You won’t regret either decision. Great video,,, Does the controller change the clock automatically when daylight saving time rolls around or do I have to change the clocks time manually?
Hello! I just bought ad installed a gorgeous REU-KBP3237FFUD-US unit with the remote MCT-95 US controller. I have watched two videos on how to increase the temp from the factory setting of 120F. One is to press and hold "Button A" which I think applies to older units and didn't work for me. The second video says flip dipswitch #6 which allowed me to increase the temp on the controller but the heater didn't respond. Note, dip switch 1 & 2 are flipped as a factory setting. I would be most grateful for any suggestions!
Any Luck with that override question for the RU98IN? Would Rinnai help me if i called their tech line or are they stuck on 120 to avoid warranty issues?
Mike, I just had my outdoor natural gas RUR199 installed with the MC-195T. I am in SE Virginia. The contractor set the recirc pump to be on continuously rather than setting certain parameters. Is this ok or would you suggest setting parameters when the demand is most. Thanks.
I have a Rinnai RUR98i and I’m confused as why there are two timers? What is the purpose of the second timer when timer #1 gives you 24 hours on and off? Please give me an example of how you would use the #2 time in parallel with the #1 timer so it doesn’t conflict with the first timer? Which timer has priority? Thanks
Hi Mike. Great video. My MC195T didn't come with the controller cable. I looked in the controllers manual but the cable wasn't there. Do you know how I can get hold of one?
To install a MC-195 controller there is no wire you need to install your own wire. 18/2 AWG is what you need and if your installing it on a RUR199 you need the little white plug that comes in the box. Mike
Ok, mine must have been forgotten then. Can i make the thermo bypass return circulation pump work without the controller just using the dash on the unit itself?
Related question, my unit came with both the wall mounted controller and WiFi can I use them both? Seems like both need to be plugged into the bottom clip on the pc board
Hi Mike , watched a lot of your videos on Rinnai installation.very informative enough that I installed a RUR 199000 myself. Question : Can you put 2 thermal by --pass valves ( one at each end of house) for recirculation? Thanks for all your videos
If you can do everything with timer 1 including when the pump comes on and off, why mess with timer 2? Do you really need timer 2? Can you just leave timer 2 blank so it doesn't do anything? I know I'm missing something here. It just doesn't seem like there is any need for two timers. Does timer 2 do something that timer 1 doesn't do?
Out of the hundreds I have installed I never set timer 2 I have asked why it’s there and there answer is in case you want to set a second time if you rent the house.😳 lol
Any hints on how to clean the air intake filter on an external unit? I have the RUR98EN external unit and it clogs once a year. Local Rinnai guy charges $500 to clean it. Internal unit looks dead simple but I can't find ANY documentation on the external units. thanks
Who else is watching this because they are desperate to fix their failed firmware update from Dec 21? Since then my recirc runs 24/7 with no way to control it
Watching it because we are tired of glitches in the app or WiFi (disconnects) that then make us go thru whole set up / pairing bull shit again! - and yes that update before end of year was total shit show!
In case anyone is reading this thinking about buying Rinnai... DON'T Yes, it's been a year, yes, I still have to constantly call Rinnai to get my unit reconnected to Wifi. A freaking water heater that needs non-stop IT support. What a pathetic effort on Rinnai's part. Too bad because I think their hardware is excellent.
Thank you for your video. It saved me so much time.

👍🏻 Just what I needed for information on installation of the mc195t. Thanks

Thank you for a great video!
Thanks for your help today. Videos very informative.
Great video!! Can the MC-195T-US be installed on a RL94i unit?

You sent me the distribution number. Did you get a RUR199
@@ThatTanklessGuy Its an RUR98

Set dip switch #6 to on in first bank of switches the top set

don’t let it run all the time set it to go on and off at a set time
@@ThatTanklessGuy I thought so. Thanks for your response. 👍

Hi Mike, tell me, does the controller unit for the recirculation or the wifi not come in the box when you buy the rur199i?
The WIFI unit comes with the tankless . You would need to buy the MC195-T-US controller
Ok, mine must have been forgotten then. Can i make the thermo bypass return circulation pump work without the controller just using the dash on the unit itself?
I believe I can using your video showing how to dial it in, just want to make sure.
Thank you so much.... You save me alot of aggrivation
Is this compatible with a REUVC2025FFUUS i I’m looking for a solution so i dont have to trickle our water durning cold weather ?
That controller will only work with a RUR199 or an HE plus pump system on acRL series unit. Mike
Can this controller be used on the RU units as well? Is it worth it? Or is the wireless better? I heard the Wireless option is very problematic.
Do you have a video of how to set up the wifi option on you phone for this model ? Great video
No unfortunately I don’t have one on the WIFI
Do you have to use either the wifi or MC-195t for the RUR units or can you just use the comfort or efficiency on the main unit for your recirculation?
The unit will operate without a controller but not as well if you have one. I prefer the MC-195
Related question, my unit came with both the wall mounted controller and WiFi can I use them both? Seems like both need to be plugged into the bottom clip on the pc board
where should one mount the controller in the huse or next to the unit

No you can’t only one. You can install the WiFi with the push button buy not the MC195

I don't understand why there are two separate timers as there is only one water heater. Please explain.
The controller on the unit sets up the unit the MC195 controlled the temperature and pump cycle

Hi question. Have you ever seen anyone with a Japanese style bathroom controller that allows you to reheat cold bath water?
Unfortunately I have not
I need help with E85SRN to make run the sistem
