  • This is the last part on the series for the Rinnai RUR unites. This is the three different ways to properly vent this type condensing unites.
You have the three different sizes of concentric horizontal venting the 8' the 11.5" and there is also a 21" one
You can also vertical vent the unit with concentric venting but that's going to be a totally separate video.
The 2" PVC venting is the other option. (PLEASE REMEMBER THE PIPE NEEDS TO BE SCHEDUAL 40 PVC RED LETTER THATS FOR PRESSUER)
remember to install the two screens supplied with the tankless to secure the screens into the fittings.
a slight pitch outside is always good to get any condensate to run out of the pipe.
65' of total vent run and you need to minus 6 feet per elbow and 3 feet per 45*
Please follow the installation manual for all the distances need for proper installation of the venting and fresh air intake from windows, doors ect.
If you have a questions please e-mail me at economyplmbg@aol.com
I hope you enjoy this video and series.
Please hire a licensed plumber certified in level 3 Rinnai training and to follow all state and local codes. Please file a permit with your local building dept.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,
Thanks so much for walking me through all the necessary details of the proper venting as well as proper installion in your videos. But most of all I really, really appreciate you taking the time to speak with me personally and walking me through my specific needs. You are not only TOTALLY THE RINNAI GUY! You are a good and genuine man. It is quite refreshing to find people in this day and time, especially busy people, that are willing to take time out of their lives to help others. Especially dumb carpenters who are out of their realm of expertise. You are a champion! Thanks again buddy. I'll see about getting some cigars shipped asap.

HI MIKE, I just viewed your video and would like to consider changing to a tankless system. I have two Bradford White 75 gal in my home. One of the present units in not working and these units are now 17 years old. The other reason we would like to switch to tankless is the wall mount. We will need to have some work done to the Basement floor as we have a chronic flooding issue and have had and will need to be moved off the floor at some point. So now that I have given some of the back story, I would like to get your thoughts on which model of Rinnai (ruci98in) 11GPM? (to help maintain water pressure in the house) and the 15 year warranty. Do you prefer the non condensing models that have the same size Exhaust Venting pipe we currently use and have 16 in walls brick exterior. We have a drain area system to accommodate the line for the floor drain. Thanks.

Hey Mike, I love your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. This is just great!
Question: For a roof venting, using two separate 2" sched 40 pvc, one for inlet and one for outlet, and placed 2 feet apart, could I create a lower profile vent? Meaning, does it have to stand 2 feet over the roof surface? could I just make a short rain hood, that only stands a few inches over the roof? And how hot does the exhaust get? I'm guessing less than 400degF or it would cause the pvc to loose its rigidity. Thank you so much for all you do. Mike

Mike - thanks for all these wonderful videos. I'm hoping you can help me.
We had an Eternal tankless for a number of years. We just replaced it with a Rinnai RU 199IN. The unit works fine but we have one problem I'd love some help with.
Whenever we run a cold tap anywhere in the house, we hear something turning on in the Rinnai. The "In Use" light does not turn on but something is running - I assume it's the flow turbine.
Following a suggestion from Rinnai's tech support, we installed a check valve on the cold inlet and also added a 2 gallon expansion tank. I got conflicting info on what pressure to set the expansion tank to - our static water pressure is about 67 PSI. I was told to set it to 12-15 lbs below that so I pumped it to 55 PSI. Neither of these changes have helped.
The problem seems to stem from the fact that we have 2 "on-demand" recirc pumps in the house. These are the under-sink pumps where you push a button when you want to get hot water. A pump drives the hot water back down the cold water line until the water is hot, which saves wasting all that water. If I shut off the valves to *both* of these units, the problem goes away. If I leave the valves to either of them open, the problem happens. One is a more powerful "Taco Genie" unit; the other is a residential "Chili Pepper" unit. Just to clarify - we do NOT have the RUR continuous recirc model.
    - Would changing the pressure on the expansion tank to match our static water pressure help?
    - Any other suggestions?
Thanks so much for any help.

When installing with the 2 inch PVC for the vent, how short can the riser pipe pieces be off the top of the tankless unit? Does it matter?
I did a job where I had barely enough room to 90 degree out from the top of the unit with like a close piece of PVC pipe then an elbow fitting looking straight to outside exterior wall. Is there some rule with the Rinnai venting that states that it had to be atleast 6 inches or something coming out the top of the unit before you can 90 degree out ? Also why can't you use a 2" PVC DWV 90 degree fitting looking down coming through the exterior wall outside with the screen in it?

At a max length of 65 feet seems like it would be significant weight resting on the unit vent connection. @@abhinavgaur13 In general, I feel you only need a expansion tank with a tankless if you are using a recirculation loop and end up with a heated closed loop. Follow manufacturer and local codes though. Most cold water supplies have a check valve or backflow preventer that creates the closed water loop in your house. If system is filled with cold water, then heated, the pressures will rise quickly as the water tries to expand but has nowhere to go - common with hydronic heating and domestic water tanks... with a tankless, it is only heating water while a tap is open so you don't get the pressure buildup. When you add in a recirculation line you are heating water with taps closed. These are my thoughts.

There is an existing 3" B-Vent from the gas operated water tank that is being removed. I want to run the 2" Schedule 50 PVC up through the B-Vent. If there is need for stability, I could add a few screws along the way - it's not very far. The B-vent is already anchored to a stud. For example, I could add screws near the top at or just below the roof line and at the bottom at the garage ceiling where the B-Vent starts and maybe another in the middle. What is the argument against doing this? Thanks, Tom in Phoenix AZ

That would be perfect👍👍no screws just glue anchor the elbow before it goes up the B vent and use a 6”x2” fernco coupling to water seal between the old B vent roof flashing and the 2” PVC

@@ThatTanklessGuy I think I understand what you are saying. I sent you pictures at your aol email address if you want to see the old pipe, top to bottom. I should remove the old vent pipe on the roof, then insert the 6" x 2" fernco coupling on top of the old flashing. The diameter of the Type-B vent tube on the roof is 3.5". It's 3" coming off the top of the old water tank. Were you thinking the vent tube is 6"? Thank you very much for your help.

    Hi Mike!
Thank you so much for all the info on the installation 👍
I just needed to ask you a specific question about the RU199i, the inside unit. When you run direct separate 2" lines, they should not be more than 65" in total length. I have 3 90s and 2 45s on the air intake pipe and 2 90s and 4 45s on the exhaust pipe. The total equivalent length is 46 ft for the air and 40 ft for the exhaust. I'm within the limit but do I have too many elbows, still?
    Thank you very much!

Aren't we allowed the 65' total length of each pipe separately? So say 65' for fresh air and 65' for exhaust? Or am I incorrect

    • @marjang283
      @marjang283 6 месяцев назад

Yes, 65' each but I was asking about the total elbows allowed to install, if there is a limit, or you just add the equivalent length of them and just go up to 65' length?

Can you use non direct for your intake air supply? My current unit, Eternal GU145S, is installed in a large attic space and uses my attic air supply for the intake. I would like to use my current 3" exhaust and just non direct my intake from the attic air supply. Can this setup be used for this Rinnai unit?

I should of watched the whole video before asking my question. Based on what you stated about using non direct intake air in a large garage space answers my question if a large attic space should be sufficient. Great video!!!

Any plumbers out there who may be able to weigh in? I've got 1 plumber telling me a tankless won't provide enough volume to fill a bathtub, and another that says it'll have no trouble at all.
I'm in Wisconsin, USA ground temp about 40*F
Which unit would i need to get the highest gpm for residential? thanks!

Hey Mike, great video. One question, why can't I run my 2" PVC through my old metal exhaust pipe. You don't recommend to sleeve it, just wondered why. Thanks again.

    • @ThatTanklessGuy
      @ThatTanklessGuy  2 года назад

I do say that I have other videos on it. As long as you sleeve it and hopefully it’s a straight run it would work.

@@ThatTanklessGuy Exactly, I hope it's a straight shot! I should probably put some type of support or clamp it to a rafter or something. Thought I might cut the pipe once I got into the attic and support or clamp it.
