Mike I installed a rl75 in July, was throwing a code 12,I iodized 1/2 gas line to 3/4 code went away, last week customer called me and said it's throwing a code 12 again,I not not what to do,maybe test manometer, probably because he is running has fireplace now since it's cold probaly starving unit. What would you do in this situation?
Sir, I am in North Carolina and the codes says at 70 feet away from the meter, I have to use 1 1/2 inch Black Pipe, with 440 cfh, I am installing the Rinnai 199 BTU. Thank you, I will make sure the regulator is 3 feet away fronm the water heater.
I'm installing a rxp199in. My propane tank is about 15 ft from my tankless. It's plumbed with 3/4 all the way to the tankless. The house has a LV4403 regular before entering the house. Do I need an additional for the tankless? Thanks
I really appreciate this video you made. I just installed an aosmith tankless water heater, direct vent type myself. How do you purge the gas in the system?
Nice I think the clear hose size is 3/8 ? looks like it will go straight into my manual manometer. I'll check that Field piece brand out . I've seen digital manometers be off and have to be calibrated yearly etc. Thank you for zooming in great video very informative !
Could you use an integrated 2 stage MEC regulator at or very near the tank with the run to the unit being about 15 ft after the regulator on an outdoor unit? Regulator I’m referring to is gray and is tank to inches. Thanks for your help.
Thank you for the video. I live in Montana so our elevation here is higher. What we experience here on our rl94 is it takes forever sometimes to get hot water to faucet. Please tell me what to check for? I can tell you that it's 3/4 gas feeding the Rinaii now. Thank you Scott
My gas pipe is a little undersized for my heater's 199k BTU rating; is it fairly safe to assume that it should work ok as long as I don't put a big demand on it?
Mike-Looking to upgrade a 75 gal tank water heater to a tankless. Starting to see rust particles on the floor which probably is indicative to a potential problem. Its a 18 year Bradford White unit. I have a 2 PSI Natural Gas meter due to having a whole house standby generator installed. Output of the gas meter has a tee reducer to what appears to be 3/4" on both sides of the tee. One end of the tee goes in the basement (5' away) to a 4 port hookup with 1/2" gas lines. The other end of the tee goes to a regulator and out to the generator. The current water heater is 1/2" gas line. Total line length is less than 15' from the gas meter to the current water heater. On the 4 port we have the current water heater, dryer, stove, and furnace on it. Could we use an adapter to convert the 1/2" line to 3/4" seeing how the length of gas line is so short? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mike im going 55' and going to run dedicated 1" tracpipe right to the meter to a ruc65 which is 130 btu. Rinnai tankless. My other gas appliances are 110 btu. I always here you talk about the 2 psi but cost to much. Will this work? Meter is 250 btu 7wc 1/4psi.
I bought an on-demand propane water heater online and it flashes like it will ignite and then nothing. The manufacturer said I need to adjust the ignition needle but would not even send me a photo showing where to look or how to adjust it. Can you give me some guidance on this task? Send a photo or diagram with the part in question circled and how to adjust it please. These cold showers in a room that is poorly heated in December are not fun. Thank you.
I have a 5 psi gas meter with 1” black pipe coming into my house. I would like to install a Rinnai on demand. Does Pietro Fiorentini make 3/4 inch 5psi regulator? Thanks for the videos. Dan
I have black pipe from the meter to a manifold in the house and 1/2 csst from the manifold to the range, dryer, furnace, and current tank water heater. can I hook up from the manifold?
Mike, Can you show us how to wire an external recirculation pump to the RL94e exterior gas unit? The two wires are labeled “Cut wire to connect to pump”. Does the heater then turn the pump on and off?
Yes you cut and connect the pump to the wires. You would set the dip switches to run the pump. Remember you need a dedicated return line to operate the circulation
Awesome tutorial as always, Mike! Thanks for the detailed explanation of all things. Never did list the regulator number. Do you have that or do you suggest an updated version since the making of this video?
I purchased the Rinnai tankless water heater combi. I was told that it would not work with my old fashion steel radiators. Is this true? If not any suggestions? Thank you!
All of my gas appliances are about 70-ft from the meter. gas to the basement is in 1-inch black steel. I have a furnace and a task heater. I want to add a tankless. I also want to be ready to install a gas range. I was going to have the gas upgraded to 2psi, but have another thought: Is there any reason why I couldn't have the meter upgraded and set to 14-inches, then use the 3-inch WC drop table and then re-regulate in the basement using a governor (instead of a regulator) to 8-inch WC and then use the 0.5-inch tables to calculate pipe sizes for the rest of the appliances? (e.g. using the Pietro Fiorentini 31053 governor)
MIke, I need help. I have a Rinnai and a two-story home. The issue we're having is when upstairs getting ready for a shower the water starts coming out warm then all of the sudden it gets cold and will not get hot until we turn off the shower faucet. One time i heard a beeping sound from our garage and i looked at the heater and it showed a code of 12. When i looked up the Code 12 it says its an issue with the flaime or no flame. Can you help and what I should do. Thank you! Nramirez. One more thing, there is no issue when we're downstairs using the sink or other things and getting hot water, only upstairs.
I am a bit confused. I have a 3/4" black pipe coming into my house. Its only about 15 feet to the location of my proposed tankless. The only other item on that 3/4 is my forced air heater. Since it is such a short run do i not need the 2lb? Do i need the 3/4" regulator no matter what?
Hey Mike I love your videos I have a question. What is the average cost to move my Rinnai ru199in tankless water heater from my attic to the inside of my garage?
Hey Mike, if I'm installing a propane tankless heater, do I still need a sediment trap on the unit? The gas will be flowing upstream. But also wondering if I could install a sediment trap closer to the propane tank, if it's needed.
Have a Rinnai model rc80Hpi serial number 10.03 - 0 0 0 3 8 8 March 2010 I need to know if I need a regulator and it's in a mobile home with two propane tanks 6ft away from unit. The horizontal condensing vent 12in with a 90 elbow part number 22903 1 is this the correct venting. I am new to this. My water heater is going and I bought this 4 years ago now need to put it in I'm getting the parts and I'm have a professional do the piping? Does the pressure relief valve go before the regulator.
The regulator is needed when you have a 2 pound or a 10 pound gas system feeding the tankless. Most tankless heaters need between 5 and 12 inches of water column coming into the unit.
Looks like Maxitrol makes a regulator that is certified for an inlet pressure up to 5 psi. Part number 325-5L600-3/4-LIM. Spring range is 7-11”, so it fits the bill. Do you recommend that brand?
I have an outside tankless unit it’s only 3-4 years old. When I run water inside and go outside I smell gas. Does anyone know why and if this means it needs to be replaced?
JC JC no it doesn’t need to be replaced. Do you smell had coming out of the vent at the top of the unit or do you smell it around the unit.could you give me the model number of the unit and if you have natural gas or propane. R mail me your answered and a few pictures would help also . Mike
It depends on your length of piping and the gas pressure. If you have say a 2lb. system then you would need a 2lb to inches regulator 3 feet from the tankless. I hope this helped Mike
Problem two pound gas becomes medium pressure and if installed inside a building must be welded pipe trac pipe with any mechanical joints don't meet code
2 psi in a residential home is basically unheard of in New England. Not sure if Florida is different, natural gas is typically between 5-7" water column after the meter. Typical manifold pressure on a gas appliance is usually 3.5", but different for tankless depending on brand and model, always represented on the tag that shows btu output. Not sure if he is referring to LP gas installs, that would be 11-14" after the second stage regulator to the appliance. Very uncommon for us to add a regulator before the appliance like this.
Mike, awesome video(s), I've watched many of your videos. I"m installing a E60SRN boiler. I have an existing 2 pound gas service to my house. My house is about 3500 sq ft. I have a gas furnace, gas clothes dryer, gas stove and gas oven. Question: can I use the existing 2 pound regulator or do I need to add a second regulator just for the new boiler. Thanks again Dan

There are thousands of regulators placed 12” from exterior rinnai water heaters in my area that have been operating fine for over a decade
You answered my question. I thought a dedicated line would be overkill for my small house.
Those model numbers are for electrical clamp meters, not Pietro Fiorentini gas regulators. Do you have the model numbers and where to buy online?

I have 7" wc from meter, do I need to increase from utility to get to 9"wc?
Why do you need a additional regulator on a 2psi system. Maybe a high pressure system
There’s always a first stage regulator (at the tank or the meter) and there’s a second stage regulator at the house or appliance
Thanks that's a bunch of great info!
Thanks!
Can a Rannai tankless be installed as a preheater for a water heater tank?

The regulator is needed when you have a 2 pound or a 10 pound gas system feeding the tankless. Most tankless heaters need between 5 and 12 inches of water column coming into the unit.
I prefer to use a low pressure gas for safety. I had to install 1 1/4" gas line in my low pressure gas line. About 70 ft away.
Super Video!
excellent, thank you mike

Hello Folks, does anyone know where Mike has posted the regulator model number etc.... Thanks !
Thanks for the information.
