  • Well I'm back after my injury. I was still able to answer everybody's questions while I was out. This video is being made to answer and show the most asked question I receive. what to use for the venting or is my tankless vented rite.
    Rinnai requires two different venting options the concentric venting where you have a pipe within a pipe. One pipe is used for the exhaust and the outer pipe is used for the intake air. the second option is 3" pvc sch. 40( red lettering) two different pipes for the exhaust and the intake. That's the only options you have these two ways can be vented through a wall or a roof, nothing else. No B vent or brick chimney ( no exceptions) you will burn out the unit.
    PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW RINNAI'S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS THAT COME WITH THE UNIT.
    I hope you enjoy this video.
    If you have any questions please e mail me at economyplmbg@aol.co.
    Thanks Mike

    You know this guy is really good when you make informative comments on other related RUclips videos based on missing information provided on this video. Again thank you for your help. One of the best if not the best instructors on you tube I have seen. The style of teaching is self explanatory and well laid out.

    This guy is good. He makes sure he makes things clear just in case someone doesn't know anything about plumbing. I know a little about plumbing but I like how he take that extra time to explain the basics. Great job

    I am glad I found your videos. I picked up a RUCS65iP to heat the hot water in my radiant flooring in my garage and am self-installing all but the propane. I didn't realize that if I use the centric venting I only need to run the one pipe and could leave the intake capped. I thought I had to run both. Thank you!

    Mike, thanks for taking a listen to my "whiny" RL94i, and pointing me in the right direction to getting it fixed. You are both a gentleman and total pro. I've learned a great deal about Rinnai tankless units watching your videos. I wish you all the best....and also wish you were closer to Md. so you could be my Rinnai guy. Hope your knee gets better soon. Mike

    Very informative Mike.
    After 5 years of having a " temporary " electric water heater, ( no venting necessary ) I've decide it's time to go tankless.
    Do they make units that run on LP gas ?
    Is the venting similar ?
    I would be installing the unit in my basement.
    Since I have a log cabin and don't have conventional walls I can run the venting through, would I have to cut a hole through the 10" concrete foundation ?
    Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for these videos. They are very helpful. I have few questions for the Rinnai RU199iN Condensing Tankless Hot Water Heater, 11 GPM, Natural Gas, Indoor Installation. Can it take the CVENT-2 or the 184162PP vent? These vents look open at the top, what happens if rain water gets in the heater exhaust line (straight through roof)? Why can I not put a 2" PVC pipe from top of Rinnai heater into the existing galvanized vent from old tank water heater? Thanks you again for helping.

    Am I correct in assuming that, for a horizontal venting configuration, only the black part needs to stick out of the wall? We had our heater installed but the venting sticks out really far and was wondering if it could be cut back. Is there a recommended minimum distance from the exterior of the house? Thanks.

    Hi Mike, I'm trying to install a V94XIN Rinnai in my house, but the current location of my tank water heater is ~10' from any exterior wall and is on the first floor of a two story house. I have the room to run the venting in between my floor joists of the 2nd floor, but I can't find any double layer tubing that long. Do you know of anyone that sells tubing that long? Any suggestions you have are much appreciated.

    What's shown here is how my Rinnai is vented.. noncondensing ubbink immediate 90 out the exterior wall that it's mounted on. My question: How do you remove the 90 to inspect / clean the exhaust? I'm not finding enough flex / wiggle room to get it out. I've even loosed the wall mount and tilted the top of the unit about an inch forward. What is the trick that I am missing? Thanks!

    I have a rannai Rc 98. I bought it used and installed it in my dairy barn. I hooked everything up and have power to the unit. I hooked up a small 5 lb propane tank just to make sure it worked before I had that gas company come and install the big tank. when turned on and the hot water running the machine cycles and tries to lite the flame. nothing happens and it throws a code 11. I checked the ignitor and that was good but i didn't smell and gas when I pulled the ignitor out and cycled the machine to check for gas. I went down to the little hole on the lower part of the machine to where you check pressure and cycled the machine again and didn't smell any gas. I know I have good pressure to the bottom of the machine because when i crack the line the gas runs out really well. As far as i can tell my gas solenoid is not activating. is that solenoid pressure sensitive meaning that the little tank I have wouldn't run it or even with the little tank shouldn't I still smell gas out of the machine?

    Hi Mike.
    I got a question. My gas meter supplies 275 CFH..275000 BTUS. I am thinking to install a RU160 IN Rinnai water heater, but adding this RU160 and my appliances like boiler, drier and stoveI will surpass my gas meter capacity by maybe between 20 to 30000 btus. Do you think I will have a problem running this RU water heater ?? I live in NY
    Thanks

      @Josh.1234 3 года назад +1

      I talked to a Rinnai manufacturer engineer on their contractor hotline and he said 2" was fine on my RU199in up to that 60ft mark. I asked if there was any advantage to go up to 3" and he said no at least in my 15ft application with some 90s. I am using mine in a tight remodel and that smaller diameter actually helps a good bit in fitting it in.

    I've had to replace my Rinnai water heater. The vent pipe as fused together after 11 years of use. Any suggestions to get it to release?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 4 года назад

      Jeff Cash it’s almost impossible to remove the vent. The two metals fuse together. You can try to spray wit a lubricant like WD40 and let it soak for a day or so. We don’t have the luxury to wait that long so we just replace the vent pipe. I hope this helped. Mike

    Question was asked before with no reply but would it be possible to use ambient air instead of running a line for the air intake? Also would 3” pipe work?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab 3 года назад +3

      You can use room air depending on the units location and the size of the space. If it a two car garage you could use it. As far as the pipe size it depends on the unit. The older RU SERIES USES 3” pipe the newer Sensei unites use 2” PVC. Just remember no matter what size pipe it has to be schedule 40. I hope this helped. Mike

      @@TheBuddylab I have a follow-up question to this: On an RUCS, there is a dip switch that must be switched depending on whether you are using twin pipe, or concentric. What does this switch do? The two air intakes both feed the same internal air space, why does the unit care if the combustion air is coming from a separate pipe, or concentric? What setting should be used if using surrounding (crawl space) air? Thanks!
