so you're telling me that not only you put flashbacks to the infant, polites, the crew, eurylochus and the sirens, BUT YOU ALSO MADE ODY STAB THEM IN HIS MIND??? AS IF HE DIRECTLY KILLED THEM ALL?????? you monster 🫶🏻
the fact that Odysseus stabs him in the heart and it flashes to Polites. then Odysseus stabs him in the back and it flashes to Eurylychus. YOUR MIND>>>>>>>>>>>>
@Pasta-q2u I'm pretty sure it flashes to Polites when Odysseus stabs Poseidon in the arm cause Open Arms, and it flashes to Eurylochus when he's stabbed in the back cause- well- Eurylochus backstabbed/betrayed him
GUYYYYYS "How does it feel to be helpless" and it shows the infant, a helpless being. "I watched my friends die in horror" and it shows Polites. "I heard their final moments, calling their captain in vain" and it shows the crew being murdered by Poseidon. "Look what you turned me into" and it shows the Sirens, the first time Odysseus was being a monster. "All of the pain that I've been through , haven't I suffered enough" and it shows Eurylochous. It all makes so much sense 😭
Genuinely the best rendition of this scene. Uses the wind bag in a way that makes it feel less like 'uhhh hes goku now' and more like actual strategy, while retaining the monstrous snap at the end.
My honest reaction, I love epic but it seemed too out of place to use it as a jet pack and fight in the air, this seems like something that classic odyssey would do
I really love your interpretation. I had a hard time swallowing the idea that Odysseus was jetpacking around and slashing Poseidon up himself. The idea of him turning Poseidon’s own wrath (busted rocks) against him is so good and very on brand for Odysseus. It leans into his wit more than his brawn.
@@Duvetbox THIS!!! otherwise Calypso's immortality couldn't have stopped Odysseus, he could've just incapacitated her easily or something Duvetbox the animatic GOAT!
Gotta say I do love how you made Ody actually using the bag strategically and all the resources at his disposal like his raft and landscape in the fight rather than just….using it like a jet pack and somehow controlling it hanahsbhs No hate to Jorge obvs but here it actually feels like Ody won as a MORTAL man
It also shows how he's truly has the quick thinking and skill of a warrior of the mind. He was able to analyze his surroundings, everything he had at his disposal, and weak points on his opponent. All in seconds. Athena was right. He has the mind of a genius, and her training him from a young age brought out the best of his skills and honed them. I think she really did complete her self-imposed purpose with Odysseus.
As fun and entertaining the idea of using the wind bag as a jet pack was. I like it more the way you did it, with a more "realistic" approach to how a mortal would attempt to fight a god. Noticing that his own trident can injure him, and capitulating on it.
One of my biggest problems with the official animation is that ody brute forces his way through the battle. I like that this one shows him using his wits to beat Poseidon, which not only makes ody even more badass, but gives a thematic way that Poseidon can lose, while still keeping his “Arrogant God” persona in check.
i LOVE poseidon laughing at the end. him being scared doesn’t make sense, he’s immortal and could choose to drown Ithaca whenever he wants. but here he doesn’t, because he got what he wanted. this whole time he’s been trying to make Odysseus see his point of view, and this represents the point of no return for Ody. he doesn’t need to kill him - the old Odysseus already died. and the monster is what remains.
Yeah finally someone understands the Gods care mostly about mortals learning from them than anything else. He'd be proud of what he created. Even more so that he did what Athena couldn't, given their rivalry.
You know, my theory on all this was just that he actually couldn't harm ithica, but this being a world view war over actually killing him would make all this make more sense seeing as there's no way he'd be able to just "do" this to poseidon Edited to add: dont forget as well odysseus has to live the rest of his life with his failures, and then well im certain poseiden could make a deal with hades, he broke the man and will probably be able to ensure his torment in the afterlife
@@shaynethegmann nah punishment from Hades basically always comes from people specifically pissing him off, or all the Gods off. Like Sisyphus tricked his *wife* taking advantage of her kindness to return to his body
Honestly, the abject horror and desperation on Odysseus’s face when he said “ look what you’ve turned me into “ is something I haven’t seen yet from other animatics. He’s revulsed by himself, and yet drives the point home to Poseidon that HE made him that way. Also, Poseidon just laughing his ass off after the beating definitely makes this even sadder, he knows he has been defeated, but did he really lose in the end ?
Totally agree with you - Poseidon reaction makes it more likely- gods can’t be truly defeated just outwitted - and this animatic shows how that could happen.
Okay, I'll admit, I tend to disagree with the fandom on the whole "smiling Poseidon" thing. But this is by far the best iteration of it I've ever seen. Poseidon full body laughing after Odysseus leaves gives this terrible sense that he got exactly the answer he wanted. That he had finally taught Odysseus true ruthlessness, and that was enough satisfaction for him to call it quits.
Facts. Like he's bloody and lost but did he really? That's all that needed to be done too. Not some throwaway line of him saying "That man is no longer you." Just him smirking. Because he won. He's bruised and bloody and that will be something future Poseidon deals with lol, but for now he kind of won too.
Yesss, this was my theory, Odysseus showing how ruthless he is and poseidon letting him live with that, on how Odysseus could beat Poseidon before the saga released so yeah the official version of Odysseus straight up beating and making him scared of him almost was pretty unsatisfying. Duvet always delivers!
@@tearsfrompluto8927 All respect to the official animations, but Jetpack Odysseeus was a “jump the shark” moment for me. I do like scared Poseidon, but not in the way that is typically shown. I feel like either Poseidon or Odysseus have to learn a lesson here for this to make sense and be narratively satisfying. Either Odysseus has to learn to be truly ruthless, like portrayed here, or Poseidon has to be confronted with the failure of his ideology. My preference being the latter, where at the end of all of this he realizes that ruthlessness wasn’t mercy upon himself. It just wasted ten years of his life, and left him helpless and victimized. Just like when he was a child, when his first moments were his own father trying to kill him. So if it couldn’t protect him from that, what was the point of any of it? That said, Duvet’s portrayal of a more smug and cruel Poseidon is absolutely PEAK for that version of it.
I love how strategic Ody is in this one. Him realizing that gods can be hurt was so cool. And seeing Aeolus for a split second was a great touch. He's technically using another god's power against him. Another awesome job!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS DEPICTION OF THE FIGHT! Actually shows small moments of Odysseus’ intelligence; 1. 0:22 He keeps his wind bag hidden as a way to keep some advantage on the battle field 2. 0:34 His quiet realization that he CAN hurt the gods just not kill them 3. 0:47 His clever utilization of the wind bag as a momentum tool to create projectiles that attack and overwhelm Poseidon enough to put him on land, where he has much less power (in the canon of Epic at least) Especially love that since instead of retconning the “wind jet pack idea” it simply makes it more realistic
this is the best depiction of 600 strike ive seen. Ody using the wind bag as a distraction and offensively to get an edge on poseidon and surprise him is awesome in how it stays true to ody being a cunning hero and not someone who can just 1v1 a god no problem. Fantastic
Also is lines up better with Hermes line in danger “Ever trick in your domain” and his gambit with the win bag lines up with “you cannot play it safe for this”
0:28 When Poseidon trident repelled against him, and scratched his face, It’s when odysseus realized Poseidon is own weapon can harm him, NICE DETAIL!!
I like the way you made Poseidon react to Odysseus's response, he's laughing. *that* is what he wanted to hear because that is the exact thing *he* would do, not care, he laughs because Odysseus finally *gets it*
I love how Odysseus drags the trident through Posidons flesh. I also love how personal you made this look, nobody shows how much hate goes into every stab as well as you do.
i love how not only is the windbag utilised in more ... ""realistic"" ? .. way , but also there is an explanation on how a mortal could even harm a god in the first place , the only damage ody does to poseidon is with the use of his own trident
I cant lie, this is better than what he had for the reference. I did kinda like the jetpack idea with the bag but this animation has a way more realistic interpretation. (im going to think of this whenever i hear this great song XD)
Love the fight choreography, it feels much less goofy compared to the wind bag jetpack thing (no offense to the animators that Jorge commissioned) its much more creative that he uses the winds to hit poseidon with debris rather than flying up and smacking him with nothing but his bare fists- at least for me And him realising that gods can be hurt in the middle of the battle was a fun way to show how observant he is Not to mention poseidon tryna crawl away pitifully is very satisfying considering all the pain he caused Ody ❤ Edit: I just realised the flashes while odysseus stabs poseidon was the infant, polites, his comrades, the sirens and finally eurylochus 🥲
Finally, someone shows Poseidon smiling when Ody says “Next to my wife!” The whole point of Poseidon as the antagonist is the fact that Odysseus wasn’t being ruthless enough, so of course he would only be satisfied once Odysseus had become just as much of a monster (rawr rawr rawr) as Poseidon himself! I’m really hoping to see you get commissioned for an official animatic for the Ithaca Saga!
Ok, this interation of the fight between Poseidon and Odysseus is much better imo. The wind bag jetpack was cool in theory (made me cringe and just laugh tbh), but did not suit the setting of the Odyssey. Him using it as a way to resurface the water and move the raft around makes more sense.
Epic is technically it's own setting at this point (the gods are dressed more modern than the mortals and Hera summons a damn disco stage). I don't consider it to be part of the Odyssey's setting, I consider it the Odyssey retold through a different setting
@@HellIsForeverWithInfinite still an interpretation of Greek Mythology of which many things bring in more modern elements like the Hades games for example and if Jorge wants to do it his way that’s fine but I can take issue with his interpretation and wish that he went another way with it.
I think this is the first animatic for this song that actually understands and showcases how Odysseus fights. The wind bag wasnt an automatic win button. He had to be smart and come up with a plan on the fly. Very accurate to the character while also maximizing the beats in the song. Hands down best animatic for this song!
To this point in time.......This is the best interpretation of the song I've seen. It's made me feel a lot better about some of the ideas in the song that I didn't like as much and enhanced the parts I did like. At this moment, this is my official headcanon of the song.
FINALLY AN ANIMATIC THAT DOESN'T HAVE POESIDON JUST SIT THERE AND TAKE THE BEATING OMG. Poseidon wasn't really "defeated", mans was just chilling cause "lol tf is this human gonna do" - he wasn't even that hurt and was lowkey just vibing. and the way he moves his hand to stop ody, only for ody to pierce through it and rip it open by dragging it sideways??? holy hell YES. Poseidon isn't helpless mans not gonna lay there and take it, and Ody's had enough bullshit
YES GOD you did exactly what I had wished happened officially: Poseidon LAUGHING after the fight. He didn’t “lose.” This is what he wanted, he turned this man into a ruthless monster. I headcanoned that this is what he was getting at, that he wasn’t really “defeated,” but to see it actually drawn out is fantastic. Love this, thank you so much for all the stuff you do for this fandom!!
I believe Poseidon is laughing because Ody didnt beat him. The Monster did. A monster just like him. By maiming him Ody proved him right. Ruthlessness is mercy upon himself...
I like the idea of odyseuss actually learning that poseidon can be hurt at the beginning of the fight which gave him confidence instead of it being pure anger 0:30
I have now seen a few animations of this song and I really like your interpretation where Odysseus isn't actively fighting Poseidon, but trying to survive. As dope as most of these 1v1 combats look, it makes no real sense. Poseidon is still a god. Here Odysseus only gets into his position of power by mere chance, which feels much more realistic and credible.
better yet, he only gets the information that Poseidon's trident can harm him by chance. The whirlpool? The rocks? The last steal of the trident? All his own skill.
@@2160Tunes Poseidon really digged his own grave here yet again. His actions pushed Odysseus over the edge and him going overboard for no other reason than pettiness even allowed this chance to happen.
This is one of the best interpretations I've seen of this song - the song is generally difficult to translate, with the suggestion of Odysseus being too OP; while mortals have managed in some myths to fight and defeat deities, this is still Poseidon. The god of the ocean and one of the big ones. I like Odysseus using his skills, trickery of turning the surroundings against Poseidon and especially the way he looks and feels when he hurts the god. And one thing that no one else did - that Poseidon is smiling, even after his defeat. Not in a last ditch effort to hurt Odysseus. Poseidon is thrilled that he instilled his philosophy into Odysseus. Poseidon won, with Odysseus being ruthless and having lost any shred of humanity left, but still being somewhat human through his pain and everything he went through.
I love the windbag being using in combination with his wits and expert sailing skills as opposed to a jetpack outta nowhere. ALSO THE IMPACT FRAMES OF EVERYONE ODYSSEUS MADE SUFFER, ENDING WITH NO IMPACT FRAMES AS POSEIDON HIMSELF IS THE LAST VICTIM OF HIS RUTHLESSNESS BEFORE ITHACA??? FIRE
I really like the detail that Odysseus didn't realise Poseidon could be hurt until he accidently scratches himself with the trident because of the wind bag
Poseidon visibly laughing is something I love. I always picture Poseidon having this victorious look even after being tortured because Odysseus finally understands to be ruthless, something Poseidon quite literally sang to him about. This is just awesome
I will love every animatic that doesn't have Odysseus using the bag like a jetpack and actually using wit and skill to beat Poseidon. I also absolutely fucking loved the flashbacks every time he stabbed into Poseidon, all these details make for an amazing scene.
The best part is that Poseidon is laughing at the "Next to my wife" line. He is defeated, maimed and in incredible pain but he still won. Ody became as absolutely ruthless as him. His worldview won over Polites' open arms and Athena's balance.
This animatic made this song make sense to me! Duvetbox you GENIUS!!!! I love when at 0:30 you showed the moment when Odysseus realized he could hurt a god! It really showed how cunning he is!
OK *THIS* IS MY FAVORITE 600 STRIKE ANIMATION! The way my mouth fell open when Ody first yanked the trident out of Poseidon’s flesh! Also I love how animators saw the plot-hole of Ody somehow beating Poseidon in a straight fight and said “fine I’ll do it myself” Poseidon trying to get away only for Ody to use the trident to flip him back over and continue stabbing him-
I feel like there’s a million things to love about this animatic. The way Ody notices that the trident can draw blood on Poseidon, the way he uses Poseidon’s strength against him to get what he needs to destroy the mega-water-Poseidon, and only then get a hold of the trident and slash him, the way Ody’s darkest moments flash during the torture scene and each one fits the lyrics-goddamn
I absolutely LOVED this. As much as I adore the song, a *jetpack* was weirding me out so bad it was hard to focus. No hate to Jorge; he's incredible. A fantastic songwriter and storyteller. But this makes so much more sense to me. I love it!
Lol same, but the lack of glowy red eyes is a downside because it shows there's more to this scene than just his sheer willpower. (Jorge said glowy stuff = the presence of magic.)
This fight is so so cool. Odysseus using the wind bag as not a jet pack but a propeller. How he sees Poseidon´s blood and immediately cooks up a plan. the trident movement. A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Okay. I much prefer it being that Poseidon is kinda letting him walk away because he realizes that ody has finally taken his lesson to heart. (And painfully driven that lesson back into his own real heart but still) It kinda bothered me in the livestream that the GOD Poseidon wouldn't just hunt him down again later or drown Ithaca anyway, but if I read the facial expressions here right, he doesn't need to. He got what he wanted. A ruthless man. No longer the Greek he couldn't stand for his cowardly mercy
I love how the whirlpool he made from the wind bag storm is reminiscent of his fight with Charybdis! Really shows how he's using his experiences to his advantage! "And put your whole brain in it. Remember every trick in your domain for this"
I will never recover from the frames in between the slashes. And the placement is SO PERFECT? Like the siren at "Look what you turned me into" alluding to different beast, or Eurylochus at "haven't I suffered enough" as this is something we hear him say as well in mutiny, I will CRY Thank you so much for blessing us with this, every frame and composition is a masterpiece
@Duvetbox HGHR This is art and usage of stylistic devices at its finest, I noticed his frame was this certain way compared to Polites or the siren but guess the literature analysis classes in school have lost their effect on me to not connect the dots more quickly, a shame :( But there will surely be lotsa people to take note of all the details! Now please excuse me while I stay awake contemplating and bawling my eyes out, thank you very much
I think I liked this choreographed sequence of Odysseus beating Posiden with his storm more than Jay's reference for the 3D animation he released with this song tbh. The way Odysseus defeats him like this, riding the waves, using the storm and spears against him, feels more plausible than him riding the storm like a jetpack and coming at him 600 times lol. Great job!!
the best thing in all of this is how poseidon laughs his ass off at the end. he isn't mad, sad, scared or in any sort of pain, the dude is just happy as fuck at how ody became. he wanted to tech him a lesson and show him how he must act when someone provokes him, he doesn't care that he lost cuz in the end he is the one who truly won by making ody a monster and forcing him to throw his man self away just to get back home.
THIS! THIS IS THE VERSION OF THE BATTLE I ACCEPT. Ody using his wits to use Poseidon's terrain and weapon against him, and Poseidon still being cocky in the end (he's a god after all). I LOVE YOU, DUVETBOX!
Awesome interpretation of the fight! Most animatics just have a flying Odysseus stabbing Poseidon with his puny mortal sword, but Odysseus using Poseidon's storm, and adding the wind and the broken rocks to hurt him makes a lot more sense. Fighting smart and not strong: He is a warrior of the mind, after all. This animatic is my personal canon
This is such an amazing interpretation of Odysseus' fight with Poseidon. He really does remember every trick in his domain for this and treat it like it is the main event. He puts it all on the line and becomes dangerous. Athena would be so proud of her Warrior of the Mind, as would Hermes when he sees Odysseus got the message he sent. Superb job, thank you so much for sharing!
God I dont have enough words to fully capture how I feel about this animatic. This is just everything I wanted out of 600 Strike (no hate to the canon animation, the 3D was pretty sick). I love the moment Odysseus smiles a little at the realization that gods CAN bleed, redirecting his whole plan into cornering Poseidon into the smallest version of himself (that is, getting rid of the giant sea avatar because no way can Ody actually do anything with the size difference alone). And god, I'm so in love with the ending part of the song (to be fair we all are), specifically Odysseus stabbing him over and over. The quaint detail of Poseidon's skin pulling back when Odysseus withdraws the trident for another hit is exactly how the trident's designed to work and that small detail means everything to me, thank YOU. And how can we forget Ody's smile at the end? God. Perfect, all in the right places.
Thank you for not making the jet pack. This was much better! The detail of Odysseus seeing the Trident could hurt Poseidon was the believable touch this song needed. I also love Poseidon's grin at the end. In a way, he did win by forcing Odysseus to that level
I love this so much, he isn't overpowered and he actually uses his tricks to win! Also him noticing Poseidon bleeding while still all cocky and grinning ferally was. Well. It sure was.
This is a very good interpretation of Six Hundred Strike! I love how you portrayed Posiden's face at the end when Odysseus said "next to my wife" like he was't expecting how dedicated he became to getting to go back home even after everything that happened.
No but I was not prepared for the excellently placed flashes imposed onto Poseidon of moments past that matched the words so well!!??? OMG OMG 2:19 "how does it feel to be helpless--the INFANT! 😢 2:25 "I watched my friends die in horror" --POLITES 2:31 "I heard their final moments"--Hands of his crew 2:36 "Look what you turned me into"-- SIREN 2:43 "all of the pain"--EURY!!!! *sobbing* Phenomenal piece...You've outdone yourself
OH!!! Nice!! I saw the hands and eurylochus but the others were too fast!! This is so good!!! He includes the infant and the sirens 😭😭😭 HE KNOWS HES THE MONSTER
Yea I saw the hands and Eurylochous first too and then whe. I began writing my comment I started noticing the rest!I was def not expecting the infant to show up!
I think this one is my favorite animatic. I found hard to believe that Odysseus beated a god with just a sword and using the bag as a jetpack. Tricking Poseidon to hit himself and mostly creating chaos with the bag seems more reasonable and it is something clever Odysseus would do.
"If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in him" Awesome work! I love how Odysseus uses his tactical mind to defeat Poseidon rather than just using sheer magic power, even though I think that's kind of the point of the original scene (he's not a Warrior of the Mind anymore, he's become one of the gods), I definitely prefer this version where he's using his skills as a strategist and a sailor, and the contrast is what he does *after* he wins, not *how* he wins.
Ahhh, a fantastic rework of the kinda goofy fight from the original. Very well done, Odysseus using his wit and the bag to his own strength instead of just getting super powers out of nowhere. Excited to see what else you have involving this sort of thing!
I love how you gave him this look of ANGUISH one the lone "Look what youve turned me into" instead of plain rage. You can see from his face in that moment he didnt want it to come to this
2:19 “How does it feel to be helpless?” The infant 2:16 “I watched my friends die in horror” Polites 2:31 “I heard their final moments” 558 men 2:37 “Look what you turned me into” Sirens (?) 2:43 “All of the pain that I've been through” Eurylochus THE VISUALS??? MATCHING WITH THE LYRICS??? HELLO??? IT’S SO GOOD
Okay, this is actually much better than the canon fight. You removed the wind bag jetpack idea and the way his eyes constantly glow red, which were both a bit too out of place in the main animation, in my opinion. Your interpretation shows his wits once again and it actually looks like a fight. It also doesn't make Poseidon look like a pushover, he seemed like an actual challenge. I think he was defeated way to easily after he opened the bag. This is one of the main, most powerful gods and his literally in hid element here. I really, really enjoyed. But also, again, how do you draw and animate it so fast, incredible.
I love your interpretation of the windbag! The jet pack is awesome, don’t get me wrong, but this really REALLY encapsulates Odysseus’ sailing prowess and his craftiness.
I like how he used the wing bag in a strategic way. I seen lots of videos were Odysseus suddenly gains powers or is jet packing in a very goofy way. I like how it looks like a mortal fighting a god instead of a superhero
2:19 I'M GOING TO CRY. There are slight flashes of what Ody went through in EVERY STAB. The infant. Polites. His crew reaching out. The siren. Eurolychus. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME
How does it feel to be helpless? 2:20 (the infant) How does it feel to know pain? I watched my friends die in horror 2:25 (Polites) Crying as they were all slain I heard their final moments 2:31 (600 men) Calling their Captain in vain! Look what you've turned me into 2:37 (the sirens) Look at what we've become All of the pain that I've been through 2:43 (Eurylochus) Haven't I suffered enough?!? So amazing. Love ALL of this. Wonderful work!
I was honestly hoping for a frame/cut that would indicate what happened to her on Ogygia (because in the song, when she says "You didn't stop when I begged you!" you can hear part of the melody of Love in Paradise within it, which indicates something a little "dark").
1. Poseidon looks hot as hell- OH GOD WHY DID YOU MAKE HIM SO EATABLE DUVETBOX????? 2. Love the flashes of Ody's tragic memories. ALSO THAT GRIN IN THE BEGINNING WHEN HE REALISED THAT POSEIDON COULD ACTUALLY GET WOUNDED 🎉🎉 3. Both mortal and god ATE. 4. Poseidon has so much personality 😔👌 (10/10 would marry) 5. i like how in the end Poseidon is still smirking even after that lil event. He just knows that Odysseus will STILL be haunted by all of this and even if he does sleep next to his wife it will never be like it was before. As for Poseidon? He will heal- (his ego will not for a long time however probably at being outsmarted.)- Odysseus may have won the battle But Poseidon still won the war. Odysseus became exactly what Poseidon 'taught' him to be and in a way, the old Odysseus died anyway. He became as ruthless as Poseidon and in a way he became the one thing he despised. 6. 1:08 Aeolus spotted 👀 7. 1:53 Ah yes, Odysseus looking more like a monster than Poseidon in this moment.
2:19 “How does it feel to be helpless?” *the infant over the wall flashes* “I watched my friends die in horror” *polites being clubbed flashes* “I heard their final moments” *the many hands of his fleet flashes* “Look what you’ve turned me into” *the sirens being killed flashes, BECAUSE THAT WAS WHEN HE EMBRACED POSEIDON’S MOTTO* “All of the pain i went through” *eurylochus flashes* AND THE FINAL FRAME?? THE NEW DAWN?? THE HOPEFUL ORANGE SUNRISE??
Fun fact, getting repeatedly stabbed by a trident would suck, not only because you are getting stabbed but also because tridents are made to stay inside their targets, so when he pulls it out it would likely injure him even more
I LOVE the expressions during the final few lines. No matter how many times I listen to this song, I don't like the image of Poseidon being genuinely helpless and groveling, at least not like this. So for him to be grinning as he asks Odysseus how he'll sleep at night, challenging him, trying to guilt him. And Ody looking relieved and peaceful when he answers rather than stone cold (I don't dislike the stone cold interpretation either, but yours is unique and fits what you already set up). I also like how Poseidon continues to grin and laugh, proud of Odysseus for being as ruthless as he told him to.
0:34 OH MY GOD ODY REALIZING HE CAN HURT POSEIDON IS SUCH A GOOD DETAIL !!!!! I LOVE EVERY SCENE IN THIS!!! DUVETBOX YOU CREATE MY FAVORITE ANIMATIC OF ANOTHER SONG 🙏🙏
I love this animatic for how it tries to rationalize Odysseus winning. He uses the wind bag to make a storm which distracts Poseidon and it isn't until he steals the trident that he actually does damage. Not only does that make more sense, but it plays into Odysseus' intelligence much better.
I love Poseidon’s demeanor as he says the “How will you sleep at night”, it makes it seem more like he’s trying to get the last laugh by reminding Ody of everything he’s done rather than genuinely asking!
2:44 that flash of Eurylicus as he was stabbing Poseidon and saying "all of the pain that I've been through", almost as if he had stabbed Eury himself or at least felt that way in his heart with the (mostly survivor's) guilt he carried. ETA: at "how does it feel to be helpless", you can see the baby, and "friends die in horror" I think Polites flashes there, too. The details here are just so 😩
oh my god this is amazing!! i love the way he realises that the trident hurts Poseidon because it kind of fixes confusion atleast for me, because i've always been confused how a mortal beat a god, but the idea of only the gods weapon working to hurt him is incredible and really sells it, and adds so much more to the story! bro i love you never turn into a fish
I love the fact that Odysseus realized Poseidon could be hurt by his own trident, when the windbag blew it into his face and caused him to bleed. This animation is incredible!!
god the flashing images are perfect 2:20 "how does it feel to be helpless?" - the helplessness of an infant being dropped, or the helplessness of odysseus in that situation 2:26 "i watched my friends die in horror" - polites, the first death and one of the thing that has affected odysseus's actions the most. 2:32 "i heard their final moments, calling their captain in vain" - when poseidon slaughtered odysseus's crew, calling for him as they drowned in front of him. 2:37 "look what you turned me into, look what we've become" - a different beast, the slaughtered sirens. the first ruthless act odysseus did after deciding being a monster was easier than suffering. 2:44 "all of the pain that i've been through, haven't i suffered enough?" - stabbing eurylochus in the back. he didn't want to choose himself over his crew, the anguish the choice like that must have caused him. the rest of the verse is strictly focused on poseidon, the lines "YOU didn't stop when i begged you", "YOU said the world was dark", "didn't YOU say that ruthlessness is mercy upon our-". this scene between poseidon and odysseus is him coming to terms with everything. he is taking the rage of the past out on the god that caused him the most pain.
@@Robertsnr i can totally see this too! i just know the first time i ever heard the ensemble actually calling "captain" was during ruthlessness! but again, this whole animatic is up to interpretation and this is just mine :D
this is by far the best 600 strike animatic, it feels way better than the jetpack thing, honestly the original one felt way out of character for me tbh (both Poseidon and Odysseus). Anyway this is canon for me :D
Love this - Poseidon moving to try to avoid the strikes, showing his fear of Odysseus' wrath. That both amplifies the strength of Ody's emotions in his attacks and Poseidon's overconfidence that everyone fears him.
I really appreciate Odysseus not using the windbag like a jetpack. Not that the idea isn’t cool, but just the execution is more goofy than intended. Logic would dictate, how would he be able to control the bag to fly? Wouldn’t he just be flung around at Mach speed without anyway to actually control his trajectory? I like the idea of him using the wind bag as more like a way to shoot things and blow them around with a bunch of power not necessarily control.
This! I was really not a fan of the jetpack idea. This is so much more practical, and plays more on the way that Ody is supposed to be this tactical genius! (Warrior of the mind.
Watching this at 0.25 speed to see the flashes of images is well worth it 2:20 having the baby memory flash as he says “helpless” wow ok perfect choice. 2:26 “friends die in horror” shows Polites oof my heart. 2:32 image of hands of reaching up for help, his men “calling their captain vain” yep sounds about right. 2:38 “Look what you turned me into” shows Sirens yep fair choice. 2:44 “all of the pain I’ve spent through” shows Eurylochus good choice having to sacrifice his crew and his brother in law definitely was painful for him even if they betrayed him.
It was cool that Jorge tried doing something different with SHS but I really wasn't a fan of the 3D animation for it. This is much better IMO and it fits with what I was imagining in my head, great work!
Bro this is all so cool wtf. The way Ody realize the trident can hurt Poseidon, Aeolus appearing behind him, the way he steers his raft WITH HIS MOUTH, the way he pick the trident back up, ASTYANAX, Polites, the Siren, Eurolychus, ALL OF THEM. HE'S USING HIS WIT ON THIS ONE. LITERALLY THE BEST VENGEANCE SAGA ANIMATIC. NO DOUBT. PERFECTION.
so you're telling me that not only you put flashbacks to the infant, polites, the crew, eurylochus and the sirens, BUT YOU ALSO MADE ODY STAB THEM IN HIS MIND??? AS IF HE DIRECTLY KILLED THEM ALL?????? you monster 🫶🏻

@@ah_here_we_go_again5310 HOLY SHIT I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE THAT, OW MY HEARTTT 😭😭😭
Polites was the heart of the crew. And Eurylychus was the Backbone of the crew basically yeah?
@Pasta-q2u I'm pretty sure it flashes to Polites when Odysseus stabs Poseidon in the arm cause Open Arms, and it flashes to Eurylochus when he's stabbed in the back cause- well- Eurylochus backstabbed/betrayed him
GUYYYYYS
"How does it feel to be helpless" and it shows the infant, a helpless being.
My honest reaction, I love epic but it seemed too out of place to use it as a jet pack and fight in the air, this seems like something that classic odyssey would do
“Uhhh, he’s Goku”
But that is *so* cool!
Lol gosh, that stupid jetpack. I have to forget that exist.

Gotta say I do love how you made Ody actually using the bag strategically and all the resources at his disposal like his raft and landscape in the fight rather than just….using it like a jet pack and somehow controlling it hanahsbhs
No hate to Jorge obvs but here it actually feels like Ody won as a MORTAL man
It also shows how he's truly has the quick thinking and skill of a warrior of the mind.

ICONIC
FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✨✨✨✨
That was pretty iconic.
One of my biggest problems with the official animation is that ody brute forces his way through the battle. I like that this one shows him using his wits to beat Poseidon, which not only makes ody even more badass, but gives a thematic way that Poseidon can lose, while still keeping his “Arrogant God” persona in check.
Yup. 100%
Completely agree, I also wasn't a fan of the official animation
Brute force? You mean Ruthlessness?
Exactly!! This is the perfect version of this
i LOVE poseidon laughing at the end. him being scared doesn’t make sense, he’s immortal and could choose to drown Ithaca whenever he wants. but here he doesn’t, because he got what he wanted. this whole time he’s been trying to make Odysseus see his point of view, and this represents the point of no return for Ody. he doesn’t need to kill him - the old Odysseus already died. and the monster is what remains.
Yeah finally someone understands the Gods care mostly about mortals learning from them than anything else. He'd be proud of what he created. Even more so that he did what Athena couldn't, given their rivalry.
This. Poseidon is maimed but his worldview won over Open Arms and Rational Balance.
A much better ending
You know, my theory on all this was just that he actually couldn't harm ithica, but this being a world view war over actually killing him would make all this make more sense seeing as there's no way he'd be able to just "do" this to poseidon
Edited to add: dont forget as well odysseus has to live the rest of his life with his failures, and then well im certain poseiden could make a deal with hades, he broke the man and will probably be able to ensure his torment in the afterlife
This is the best way to use the windbag in the fight that I have seen so far!
Agreed!!
Agreed
Okay, I'll admit, I tend to disagree with the fandom on the whole "smiling Poseidon" thing. But this is by far the best iteration of it I've ever seen. Poseidon full body laughing after Odysseus leaves gives this terrible sense that he got exactly the answer he wanted. That he had finally taught Odysseus true ruthlessness, and that was enough satisfaction for him to call it quits.
Thats an interesting way to look at it. So in a eay he still wins
Facts. Like he's bloody and lost but did he really? That's all that needed to be done too. Not some throwaway line of him saying "That man is no longer you." Just him smirking. Because he won. He's bruised and bloody and that will be something future Poseidon deals with lol, but for now he kind of won too.
@@archsteel7 “Odysseus learning with … Gods, Goddesses and creatures big and small…” [childhood tv jingle].
@@tearsfrompluto8927
All respect to the official animations, but Jetpack Odysseeus was a “jump the shark” moment for me.
YESYESYES
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS DEPICTION OF THE FIGHT! Actually shows small moments of Odysseus’ intelligence;
1. 0:22 He keeps his wind bag hidden as a way to keep some advantage on the battle field
2. 0:34 His quiet realization that he CAN hurt the gods just not kill them
3. 0:47 His clever utilization of the wind bag as a momentum tool to create projectiles that attack and overwhelm Poseidon enough to put him on land, where he has much less power (in the canon of Epic at least)
Especially love that since instead of retconning the “wind jet pack idea” it simply makes it more realistic
Great catches!

this is the best depiction of 600 strike ive seen.
URGHHH THE PART WHERE POSEIDONS TRIDENT CUTS HIS CHEEKS AND ODYSSEUS IS LIKE 'he can get hurt' RAHHHHH THIS ANIMATIC IS PERFECT
I cant lie, this is better than what he had for the reference. I did kinda like the jetpack idea with the bag but this animation has a way more realistic interpretation.
(im going to think of this whenever i hear this great song XD)
I don't think it was ever meant to be realistic loll
Love the fight choreography, it feels much less goofy compared to the wind bag jetpack thing (no offense to the animators that Jorge commissioned) its much more creative that he uses the winds to hit poseidon with debris rather than flying up and smacking him with nothing but his bare fists- at least for me
And him realising that gods can be hurt in the middle of the battle was a fun way to show how observant he is
Not to mention poseidon tryna crawl away pitifully is very satisfying considering all the pain he caused Ody ❤
Edit: I just realised the flashes while odysseus stabs poseidon was the infant, polites, his comrades, the sirens and finally eurylochus 🥲
The shit-eating smile when he notices the Trident can hurt him, slipped in at the beginning of the vocals is such an underrated gem of an idea.
Totaaaally Agree bro

I love how at 00:30 you can see him realize that he can Poseidon bleed if he uses his weapon, cool detail!
Also I love how animators saw the plot-hole of Ody somehow beating Poseidon in a straight fight and said “fine I’ll do it myself”
Poseidon trying to get away only for Ody to use the trident to flip him back over and continue stabbing him-
I feel like there’s a million things to love about this animatic.
2:19 -- Ody about to drop the infant
2:25 -- Polites dying
2:31 -- his crew reaching out to him
2:37 -- a siren
2:43 -- Eurylochus
Another thing to notice is that they all get stabbed by the trident in the position Poseidon is in.
I absolutely LOVED this. As much as I adore the song, a *jetpack* was weirding me out so bad it was hard to focus. No hate to Jorge; he's incredible. A fantastic songwriter and storyteller. But this makes so much more sense to me. I love it!
Totally, sometimes his animatic choices are...questionable.

(And painfully driven that lesson back into his own real heart but still)
It kinda bothered me in the livestream that the GOD Poseidon wouldn't just hunt him down again later or drown Ithaca anyway, but if I read the facial expressions here right, he doesn't need to. He got what he wanted.
A ruthless man. No longer the Greek he couldn't stand for his cowardly mercy
I love how the whirlpool he made from the wind bag storm is reminiscent of his fight with Charybdis! Really shows how he's using his experiences to his advantage!

I like how Odysseus used the wind to directly blast Poseidon. The jet pack is a cool idea, but it looks kinda silly.

Now please excuse me while I stay awake contemplating and bawling my eyes out, thank you very much
YESSS I LOVE HIS STRATEGIC USE OF THE WIND BAG AND I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SO MUCH
I think I liked this choreographed sequence of Odysseus beating Posiden with his storm more than Jay's reference for the 3D animation he released with this song tbh.
Damn you SAVED this battle. Finally I don’t have to think about Ody flying in a wind-bag-jetpack anymore everytime I hear this music. Thank you.

Smae
OMG OMG

"If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in him"
Awesome work!
I don't mind the jetpack idea by the way! I just prefer this version of events, it's more cohesive with the rest of the musical to me
Ahhh, a fantastic rework of the kinda goofy fight from the original. Very well done, Odysseus using his wit and the bag to his own strength instead of just getting super powers out of nowhere. Excited to see what else you have involving this sort of thing!
I love how you gave him this look of ANGUISH one the lone "Look what youve turned me into" instead of plain rage. You can see from his face in that moment he didnt want it to come to this
2:19 “How does it feel to be helpless?” The infant
2:16 “I watched my friends die in horror” Polites
2:31 “I heard their final moments” 558 men
2:37 “Look what you turned me into” Sirens (?)
2:43 “All of the pain that I've been through” Eurylochus
THE VISUALS???
Agree with all you said!
Well the jet pack comes from the official animation Jorge commissioned, but yeah the jet pack does not make that scene serious enough 😭

5. i like how in the end Poseidon is still smirking even after that lil event.
6. 1:08 Aeolus spotted 👀
7. 1:53 Ah yes, Odysseus looking more like a monster than Poseidon in this moment.
2:19
“How does it feel to be helpless?” *the infant over the wall flashes*
“I watched my friends die in horror” *polites being clubbed flashes*
“I heard their final moments” *the many hands of his fleet flashes*
“Look what you’ve turned me into” *the sirens being killed flashes, BECAUSE THAT WAS WHEN HE EMBRACED POSEIDON’S MOTTO*
“All of the pain i went through” *eurylochus flashes*
AND THE FINAL FRAME??
Poseidon: how will you sleep at night
Ody: next to my wife
Coldest. Line. Ever.
The way the windbag was used was so cool. Rather than just being a transportation tool, he also used it to attack Poseidon! A true warrior of the mind
god the flashing images are perfect
2:20 "how does it feel to be helpless?" - the helplessness of an infant being dropped, or the helplessness of odysseus in that situation
2:26 "i watched my friends die in horror" - polites, the first death and one of the thing that has affected odysseus's actions the most.
I love this interpretation SO MUCH!!! You have no idea how happy this makes me!!!
I thought he was talking about the incident with Polyphemus when he said “I heard their final moments calling their captain in vain”
But I agree with you
@@Robertsnr i can totally see this too! i just know the first time i ever heard the ensemble actually calling "captain" was during ruthlessness! but again, this whole animatic is up to interpretation and this is just mine :D
this is by far the best 600 strike animatic, it feels way better than the jetpack thing, honestly the original one felt way out of character for me tbh (both Poseidon and Odysseus). Anyway this is canon for me :D
Fully agreed
Love this - Poseidon moving to try to avoid the strikes, showing his fear of Odysseus' wrath. That both amplifies the strength of Ody's emotions in his attacks and Poseidon's overconfidence that everyone fears him.
0:35 the small detail and realization for Ody that if he used the trident he could hurt Poseidon was literal gold
Watching this at 0.25 speed to see the flashes of images is well worth it
2:20 having the baby memory flash as he says “helpless” wow ok perfect choice.
I think the same, I prefer this version (animatic) so much
Bro this is all so cool wtf. NO DOUBT. PERFECTION.
