Great idea for a race, but I would have been more interested in seeing how the 2022 Stinger GT-Line (rwd or awd) would have done against the K5 GT, especially since they have the same 2.5T.
@Ben Well, they do in the US anyway, however slightly detuned for the K5 GT (290hp) vs Stinger GT-Line (300hp) The real difference is the transmission and drive configuration/platform.
A more interesting contest would have been the GT-Line Stinger with the K5 GT. I understand, however, that it would have been more difficult to arrange since the GT-Line with the same engine as the K5 GT isn't available in Canada. That comparison would have pitted an FWD K5 GT with a wet dual clutch transmission against the Stinger with a conventional torque converter and AWD. The K5 would enjoy a significant weight advantage and a faster shifting transmission. On the other hand, the Stinger's RWD-biased AWD would be a big advantage in getting power down to the pavement. Just a guess but I suspect the Stinger would likely take the race from a standing start largely because the front tires of the Stinger wouldn't be overwhelmed by the torque of the K5. With a RWD version of the Stinger I'd expect the same result (if the two vehicles were fitted with identical tires) especially since the K5 wouldn't enjoy as much of a weight advantage. On the other hand as the 50 km rolling start result in the video suggests the K5 might well edge out the Stinger based on its lighter weight and the fact that its disadvantage at a standing start is mitigated. Match the two vehicles on a road course track for several laps and I'd put my money on the Stinger. It's understandable that KIA doesn't offer AWD on the performance version of the K5. It's the same pattern followed by Toyota for the Camry and Nissan for the Altima. But the absence of an LSD (even an electronic version) on the K5 is a huge weakness in terms of exploiting the performance of the engine.
Awwww that was cute. This reminded me of when my younger son came to me crying because he wanted to stay out an hour later like his bigger and older brother. Don’t do this anymore guys… this is how families break apart. LOL!! With that said… I STILL LOVE MY K5!
such dramatic intro music haha awesome! Power to weight ratio matters! Crazy value on the K5. Great races and jealous of the drag strip you're able to use for your videos!
Man, you can hear how hard the K5 is fighting for traction on launch. But this was way more fascinating that I was expecting as a comparison. So Kia/Hyundai really has their DCT dialed in and the 2.5T delivering on its power. The K5 is lighter, It has an open diff, and fwd. All things that would make it really fast from a roll and reduce drive train losses. Now the stinger with its awd naturally suffers from those losses, but being able to send 80% to the rear wheels im sure helps (and likely makes the d-awd models the more effective choice for roll racing.) But it does seem like, while the 8 speed auto that Kia/Hyundai has is fantastic, their DCT is even better.
Awesome video. The Stinger is hard to beat. Thumbs up to Kia. They have a very impressive line up K5 Stinger Telluride. They are definitely doing something right over there.
@Catholic Firefighter The Genesis G70 is now a little cheaper than the Stinger GT2 and the G70 slightly outperforms it due to being a bit smaller and weighing less. But if you’re going for a base GT or GT1 the Stinger is VERY hard to beat because you get the same power but not all the nice features.
@@HellzHonour Yep but the car is heavy at over 4200 plus the driver is 250, so the light weight wheels don't offset much. I believe he was full tank of fuel too. Bottom line, these cars can be made to go real fast!
Well they did make the K5 faster than the Stinger if both are equipped with the same 2.5t motor. The K5 is newer, has a better transmission and has less drivetrain loss, and of course it’s lighter. I wish the Stinger got a Dct, but it’s got a longitudinally mounted engine and the K5 has a transversely mounted engine, not sure if Kia/Hyundai will ever make a Dct for a longitudinally mounted motor, but it would definitely be cool to say the least. They are shaping up to be like the 3 top Germans, and for good reason too.
Something is wrong in that roll race. The K5 was getting the jump on the Stinger for one. However, it also looks like the Stinger was taking a long time to get in boost. Was that in automatic or manual mode for the Stinger?
It was fun! Thanks for the Invite Sam !! I think this was a great comparison for shoppers, because there is no 2.5L Stinger is not here yet. Likely will be soon ? I hope for those who want to save fuel... But it was a good race to compare, because anyone at a kia dealer looking at a k5, is definitely looking at the Stinger and wondering, Should I ?? Is it worth the Extra $12K or so ? Well, it is,.. unlike spending $20K more for a german competing car may be to the Stinger.... IMHO. :-) The diff. between the K5 & stinger is not merely the bigger motor and awd.. a lot more.... on that note, Nem (K5 owner) and I are getting together to do a more detailed comparable review.. meantime, on my channel I did a walk around, features and specs review on the K5. Very few realize how quick the Stinger is in real world applications compared to what is shows on paper. I raced Mustang GTs and Camaros and neither could beat me no matter what they did even though they had far more horsepower and V8s. The Stinger isn’t the fastest car out there, but for the price you pay, you get an outstanding car that is a winner from stock and can out-muscle many muscle cars. The Stinger is a gem but not too many even give it a chance due to the badge. The K5 is extremely sexy and I see them all over the place. Kia earned my respect years ago and that hasn’t gone away!
@@layne4376 who cares about a roll? No one is ever racing from a roll at a stoplight. Besides, a stinger has nearly 100 less horsepower and two more doors than a Mustang or Camaro. very entertaining...love to see how Kia went from practically a joke.. to somewhat a juggernaut. this brand has grown and you can still see then developing their identity.
The first roll race was not half of car length. You can clearly see that on the camera view from the stinger and then he lifted up on the gas pedal too and different video. But I now have a sticker. Scorpion GT2 and recently got rid of my 2010 all-wheel drive TL and I waited for that type s to come out but that thing was an extreme disappointment. But during the race where you did the different years, the two newer TLXs versus the TL explain how you think that you were able to close the gap on the TL that fast at the end of the race without having turbos or anything like that because the guy lifted off his the pedal the 2010 TL. I'm not sure exactly what year that was but that's what I had. I destroyed the TLX's. I can let them get a full-blown pedal down to the floor on the highway if I'm ahead of them a little bit. And floored when they're a side of me and I can pass them. The type s accurate should be ashamed of themselves. Like I said, I waited so long for that car to come out I'm only 510. I can't sit behind myself in that car because they made the hood longer to make it look like a rear wheel biased all-wheel drive system which is absurd because if you know that you know that and nobody else is going to care that doesn't know that it's underpowered they claim that it was the most rigid chassis that Dave done, but you can clearly see roll in their own videos. Mike TL had zero roll. You can literally sit on the back with the trunk lid open and it wouldn't move. In fact it was too firm almost that was a rigid car. I wish they would have done kind of like what they did with that car. Now that car was too far ahead of its time when it came out cuz no one bought them but that was the first car with true torque vectoring all-wheel drive. They hate by far. Have the best all-wheel drive system where shifts, actual power and a new type ass is supposed to have the next generation all-wheel drive system with four-wheel steering. They put the bigger rotors on the back so the car didn't dive down which gave you control. Now I don't know why more cars don't do this and why they stopped now the car is kind of heavy. I could wart my rotors after the first drive. I ended up getting slotted and drilled and that helped a lot and the other thing that that car had to first the first surround sound system in a car. True surround sound system. I wish they could have done that they were doing for the beginning cuz every version of the supposed TL even though they merged two cars. Even though the one car was still out something, I understand they're thinking there. The fortune TL always beat the rest of them except the type ass. Probably beats it but barely and then the order? Alex had in it what the teal act should have had. It should have had the modified NSX drivetrain per se not the RLX that's supposed to be a luxury car that should have. Basically the power of TLX has My end up getting a stinger cuz they're truly isn't a better car for the money they did. A horrendous job of marketing the car. If I remember correctly the commercial was a guy who was a race car driver but driving on a NASCAR track which wasn't his profession and I never even heard of this guy and he's driving slow talking about the stereo and stuff and then their dealerships they don't nothing about the car. I would ask him questions to see if they knew and they were wrong all the time. They should have explained that it's done by the same guy that brought you the m5 and M3 former head of end division. Albert bierman and then it should have talked about how former Audi engineer Shriver did the aesthetics and then it was a mishmash between BMW Audi and Mercedes engineers on the inside. But they give you the Kia warning. I got a 10-125,000 mi bumper to bumper warning and then they should have talked about how the engine is severely detuned in order to get that warranty, but it's more than capable of 800 horsepower without changing anything. Now you might at that power have to do something with the axle. I know some people are having problems with those but I'm not sure if that's strictly the rear wheel version or not. And with basic mods JB4 intakes e85 and spark plugs is capable of reaching 202 mph 0 to 60s in the mid-3s consistently a quarter mile time in the high tens at 130 mph. It's a little over $1, 500 in mods. And won't avoid your warning at least in America since we're protected by something called the Munson act where something fails The bird is on the dealership to prove that the modification is the reason of the failure

Sorry for the long post. I do talk to text and I watch almost all your videos and this is the first time I posted so I had a lot to say one of these days I would like to get up there cuz I'm not convinced a lot of the people driving or actually showing the true potential of the stinger. I am still 100% stock but with how I drive I put over 6000 mi in the first 3 weeks on that car. So I need to know everything about the car and every condition some would say I drive crazy. I say I drive very smart because I have yet to get a speeding ticket and I hit some speeds every single day. Most people never hit in their life so I got to be doing something right. I've been driving for over 28 years zero speeding tickets now that said, I also know that even though I don't feel it the stinger you feel no hills, no weight, no heat, none of that affects it like the TL that got affected by everything. But the cold did bring that thing alive more than any car I ever had. But he killed it more than any car ever had. But I also know that with anybody else in the car with me that little bit of weight could be that fraction of a difference of me driving. How I normally drive to where now maybe I don't make it so I don't drive that way. I have that fully inconsideration not keep doing what you're doing. Very enjoyable and I understand getting all worked up about making things seem close but they're really not and taking consideration that the person that is winning that race almost every time is letting up because they're just a head. You should start telling people that finish line is passed the actual finish line. Then we'll see how he's racist really go
No way that K5 would keep up with the Stinger without a hefty tune and AWD. The AWD would add weight to the K5 and it would need more power just to keep up with the stock FWD K5. None of those races including the roll races looked close.

Agreed the 2.5 stinger would have been a closer match. But then again I think the RWD. 3.3t would have pulled away more than the tested AWD. . It's 200 pounds lighter than the AWD. The AWD Stinger tested Is 500lbs more than the K5. Not knocking the K5, I think KIA did a great job. My RWD 3.3t takes friends AWD by a drop.
Curious why you didn't put the K5 GT in Sport+ with traction and stability control disabled? Maybe in a future video you could add stickier front tires, an intake, and a tune like JB4 or something with better launch control to see what it would take to get the K5 to beat the Stinger.
@Catholic Firefighter That's actually not the point. Everyone knows that the Stinger wins when all other things are equal. That's obvious and boring. The point of a video like this is to demonstrate the difference between the two, and drag races only tell half the story. He even mentions getting a tune at the end of the video, but it would be nice to see if that closes the gap or not.
LOL!! With that said… I STILL LOVE MY K5!
best drag and roll race video maker on youtube!
such dramatic intro music haha awesome! Power to weight ratio matters! Crazy value on the K5. Great races and jealous of the drag strip you're able to use for your videos!
Been waiting for this! Thank you so much
Man, you can hear how hard the K5 is fighting for traction on launch.
Now the stinger with its awd naturally suffers from those losses, but being able to send 80% to the rear wheels im sure helps (and likely makes the d-awd models the more effective choice for roll racing.)
But it does seem like, while the 8 speed auto that Kia/Hyundai has is fantastic, their DCT is even better.
This made me oddly curious about the Stinger versus the Veloster N DCT.
Stinger would kill it
@@mintchevvv1834 it’s be a good run seeing the veloster would be 900lbs lighter than stinger and 3-400lbs lighter than k5

Great comparison! This channel WILL blow up!
But if you’re going for a base GT or GT1 the Stinger is VERY hard to beat because you get the same power but not all the nice features.
the stinger is really fast I installed a flap exhaust system on my stinger and chip tuning to 440hp/680nm now the 4.2 sec 0-100 km/h and 0-200 15sec
Not bad. Two ECU tuned stingers just hit 0-60 in 3.1

The K5 GT is no joke, that tells you all you need to know about the Stinger. Kia is very impressive and should not be counted out anymore at all.
Love these videos! Love it even more to see the speedometer some how.
Why would Kia make the k5 faster than a Stinger
They wouldn't. We just want to see how it does.
The new EV6 GT will be faster than the stinger.
If only th k5 was rwd, would be a lot more fun and wouldn't have the limitations of wheel hop or torque steering
@@dwayneobas9095 my Hellcat Redeye will beat EV6 GT anywhere anytime
That 8spd dct of the K5 is very quick shifting, and no doubt responsible for the roll race improvement over the dig time.
Love your channel. Content has been improving
The K5 GT needs AWD.
Something is wrong in that roll race. The K5 was getting the jump on the Stinger for one. However, it also looks like the Stinger was taking a long time to get in boost. Was that in automatic or manual mode for the Stinger?
Auto. but i think i just hit it half second before Sam
meant half second after
Please check it out.. "rpm auto reviews" .. Really a Nice Sweet Sedan !!
Wow Sam, I’m really lovin’ your channel. So much variety in these match ups! Can’t wait to see what you do next!
If you think about it. In 1993 the Toyota supra had twin turbos and 320hp. This stinger has twin turbos and 365hp. Wondering how much hp tuner can pull out the 6 cylinder stinger motor.

Great channel my bro.
They should be able to take a Stinger pretty easily and they can’t. This is coming from someone who only owned muscle cars before the Stinger. Just respect the Stinger man. It’s okay.
stinger has upper range too. its only a bit behind mudtang gt up to top speed.. it reaches 180kph about same time, but stang gains & reaches top speed a few seconds before stinger.. Stinger, very awesome performance
@@layne4376 yeah you must be doing drag races differently than I do. I have never raced someone from a roll that wasn’t planned first. No one pulls up next to me while already driving. It’s almost always at a stoplight. But that doesn’t matter because I’m speaking of the Stinger at the drag strip. Yes, from a stand still the Stinger absolutely takes a stock Mustang GT and Camaro. Maybe not at sea level, but I live in high altitude and turbos rule here. I do t know what else to tell you man. It’s a figment of my imagination that the Stinger is beating these cars? Are there scenarios where the Stinger is beat, I’m sure. But I’m speaking from personal experience. Either the Mustang and Camaro drivers are horrible at racing, or the Stinger is actually taking them. I don’t care what something says on paper, real world is always less predictable. If you don’t believe me go watch some RUclips videos on the Stinger beating these cars. It’s not that hard.

@@layne4376 Mustang GT may reach 100mph sooner than a Stinger, because it should with all the power it has.. and it does pass the 1/4 mile marker at a higher speed than the Stinger my friend, but because of the Stingers launch, Many Stock Stingers do beat Stock Stangs to that marker.. Sure, the stang is about to pass it strongly in another 50' or so, but it still gets there 2nd !!! if it was a 3/8 mile race, the Stang would win every time.. Re. @@SamCarLegion awesome !
very entertaining...love to see how Kia went from practically a joke.. to somewhat a juggernaut. this brand has grown and you can still see then developing their identity.

Then we'll see how he's racist really go
So close yet so far away ha.. good stuff 👍
The weight of the Kia K5 is not the same than the last video ? Weird

No way that K5 would keep up with the Stinger without a hefty tune and AWD. The AWD would add weight to the K5 and it would need more power just to keep up with the stock FWD K5.

Have to say I'm surprised how close the K5 keeps the race after the intial launch. The Stinger smokes it off the line, but after the K5 gets its wheels under it the Stinger dosen't pull away much after that
KIA needs to make the K5 GT all wheel drive then it would be a little more even
Kia should troll the auto industry and drop the v6tt in a Kia soul and make awd. Straight line rocket. 😅
Without actually testing that, the video is neat to see, but doesn't provide a particularly useful comparison.

I actually thought it was going to be a tad bit closer especially in the rolls. The V6 Stinger and the K5 GT almost have identical power-to-weight believe it or not. The Stinger is HEAVY. As in: There is only a 179lb difference between the Stinger and Telluride type heavy. The K5 GT is nearly 600lbs lighter than the Stinger. Of course more power is better at higher speeds due to aerodynamics.
