Is the Sonata quieter? I'm a bit confused between Kia and Hyundai. I know they're both the same company but is one suppose to be cheaper and the other more high quality?
i test drove both and felt the opposite, exterior is hands down the Kia and with the tan interior i believe the K5 is better. Any other color and it would go to the sonata. Also the sonata has a better dash aswell. Overall i felt the k5 was better .
My fiance has the k5 and I have the Stinger... both great cars. I prefer Kia over Hyundai in styling and in driving. Just my preference. Great video... very close races.
@AJ Kongmanichanh good for you but the stinger sells were pitiful. Good luck selling that car in the years to come cause it won't be worth anything. I actually picked the sonata n line because yes the kias may look more aggressive but I'm inside the car more than I'm staring at it. The person driving this sonata n line is not familiar with the car and sucks at launching it. Another note the n line gets 40 mpg with all that power.

That’s interesting, in other 1/4mi and 0-60 runs the Sonata was slightly faster than the K5GT , why did I know Sam being in the Sonata it would lose. LOL
To believe that Hyundai would build significantly different DCTs for the the Sonata and the KIA is a stretch to say the least. However, according to C&D there is a very slight difference in the 4th gear transmission ratios (1.32 in the KIA vs 1.62 in the Sonata) and in the final drive axle ratio (2.99 in the Sonata vs 2.94 in the K5.) And there may well be a difference in the software that KIA and Hyundai designers programmed for the shift points under hard acceleration. I doubt, though, that those differences account for the results. More likely, differences may have resulted (1) tires and wear, (2) driver behavior, (3) differences between these particular examples of each vehicle, (4) differences in the character of the pavement in the lanes each was on or even (5) a difference in aerodynamic efficiency in the designs. Switching drivers and lanes might have been advisable and we know nothing about the relative wear and type of tires of each vehicle. The performances were so close that any of those factors might have contributed to the results. Best to call it a tie and be done with it. An alternate comparison might well be the K5 GT versus the GT-Line Stinger with the same engine and a traditional 8 speed transmission vs the K5's DCT. The Stinger is heavier and its conventional transmission may be a disadvantage but its RWD and RWD-biased AWD gives it a significant advantage in terms of putting power down on the pavement. Unfortunately, though, the GT-Line Stinger is not sold in Canada and current travel restrictions make it impossible to arrange a comparison with a vehicle from across the border. Perhaps in the near future? It would be an interesting match.
@@SamCarLegion just a suggestion, the 7 speed DCT's are weird when you launch them. I have a '21 Forte GT (US SPEC) and it appears it does NOT like to be launched that much, maybe it depends. But I do have a dragy and by just flooring it, my best 0-60 has been 6.31 sec and 1/4 mile 14.59 @ 95.7 mph, when I attempted a launch, it felt weird and my 0-60 was actually worse @ 7.1 sec... I'm pretty convinced the Forte should be slightly quicker than its cousin, though.
@Ayush Malpeddi I can tell from from owning a ‘21 Forte GT2 that when I just floor it it doesnt start out slow, IT GOES. Its slow-ish if you launch it (bring rpms up). Like I mentioned, I have tested mine out using dragy and it avg 6.4-6.5 sec with a best of 6.31 (I have a run on my channel). The n-line is slightly slower by about 2/10th of a sec to 60 mph.

Thats why the N-line did SO HORRIBLE on that race against the Si...its real competition on that race lol If anything, both nline and GT, should be quicker than the Si bc of automatic transmission and consistency, the Si can be more tricky to get it in the mid 6s sec....the Nline shouldn't have been launched.
I like sonata's side profile very much. It reminds me of the cars in the animation speed racer. However, the front-end design of the K5 is just too handsome.
I have the Sonata n line but seeing the Kia K5, i can say i would've been happy with either. Those unique thin daytime running lights are very different and cool.
I absolutely LOVE the side profile of the Sonata. It's sick looking. And the front is dam nice too. I like the design from the side too much to go with the kia for the front end difference. Jmo. Ans honeslty, I think I prefer the front od the Sonata too. I think it looks sick in silver and in white. Funny because I never liked either of those colors on a car. But love them on the Sonata N Line I

In this series of races. Go get another K5 and the results could be the exact same. I would need to see multiple races with other Nlines and K5's before I am ready to automatically say Kia did something to make their car faster. Especially since every major publication says the Nline is the faster of the two.

after watching a bunch of this guys content, i feel like he's too scared of the cars to actually give them 100%, he spends too much time looking at himself getting gapped instead of driving
1 gallon of fuel = 6 lb. I think both have about 15-16 gal tank of fuel. Unless one is running on full and the other on nearly empty, it wont make much of a difference. A full tank should be adding 100 lbs. ~50 lb is not enough to make a big difference in a race. The Kia’s just perform a little better (same thing with the Forte GT vs Elantra n-line).

Full tank vs 1/2 tank is about ~50 lbs difference . Now, if you’re going to the strip, or timing your own runs with a dragy/vbox, between 1/2 and 1/4 of a tank should be fine. Granted your tank capacity is
People keep mentioning better drivers in straight line racing when I’m pretty sure better drivers(circuit and track) do more then just switch gears and put their foot down
@@BlueToku Every race won in this event was by the better reaction time of the driver or better tires or fuel. Only way to really know for sure which car is faster is to take them to the drag strip and see which has the lowest ET and highest MPH. The MPH will actually tell you more about HP than ET.
I bought the Sonata n-line Night, it makes the sonata look so much more aggressive, put the k5 gt and the n-line night next to each other and the n line night looked classier and sportier, i wish they made more to beat out the k5 all together honestly.

Drivetrain-to-drivetrain production variation just about guarantees no two cars will be exactly equal... plus the drivers, as many others have noted. If the Sonata bogged in final race due to late paddle-shifting by the driver, then I'm actually impressed it doesn't auto-upshift at redline.
@@george.giannop the drag races on this channel have shown the k5 beat the accord during the launch while the sonata fell victim to it. Based on of that, I say k5. I could be wrong
@@george.giannop the launch control on the sonata is finicky and unreliable. Everyone has had trouble using it with its needless complexity. And when one does get it right, it doesn't launch hard at all. Even with the summer tire option on the sonata, I still believe the k5 will edge it out slightly. Only based off of what I've seen from other drag races with the same cars on this channel. I believe the sonata has about 5 more hp, which may or may not contribute on the roll.
What makes you think they don't have the same transmission? From my understanding they both are using the new wet dual clutch that is the same in the new veloster N.
@@SamCarLegion Drive by wire typically refers to the Throttle body to Accelerator connection. The transmissions are exactly the same other than the final drive and i think 4th gear is different. The fact one is put in gear using a shifter vs pressing a button, has zero bearing on them being the different otherwise.

Why did the Sonata practically jerk forward/back at 6:40? (You could see the front end dip downward, and the rear come up slightly) The K5 goes way ahead at that point.
Shocking, and goes against every review I have seen prior. The Sonata N-Line has consistently been the quicker car, at least from a dig. Did the Sonata have the summer or A/S tire option? Also, having different DCTs is only something I have heard here as well. I was under the impression that the powertrains were identical for both.
Very interesting, i dont think the driver of the Sonata was a good as the driver of the K5, also, i wonder what fuel was used, the K5 definitely looks privately owned, im guessing they use Supreme (93 octane) where as the sonata is definitely a manufacturer car, most likely using Regular gas (87 octane) also, what happened in the 2 roll race? Last time i drove my sonata it doesn’t suddenly fall on it’s face, smells fishy!
Especially if the K5 is a car that has already been broken in. If they got the Sonata from the dealer then it has to be a brand new car. If that is the circumstance, then it is most definitely the reason for the discrepancy. You cannot expect a brand new car to perform at its best right out of the gate. The K5 does not have an updated DCT or anything else different under the hood whatsoever.
They’re going to both get their ass handed to them except maybe a 6 speed 3.5 but the 2.0 stands zero chance if anything a maxima would fair better with 300 hp compared to 270 of the alrima

I was thinking of trading my KIA K5 GT 2023 but I couldn't find another vehicle that made any sense? CAMRY TRD, Avalon TRD, or GTI terrible Infotainment section.
That K5 GT looks good. The Sonata can look classy from the side but front and rear are deal breakers for me. It isn't as awkward/ugly as Elantra N-Line, but Hyundai designers seem to have regressed over last 5 years. Even with nearly identical powertrains, it would be easy decision here.
The sonatas unique and futuristic design is what keeps it from aging aesthetically as style trends change. It never looks out of style because it always tries to look different than the style at the time.
No one will decide to by one just by saying wich one is faster... its to close to call... u decide with how it look inside, outside, option, and how much more....

Very scary in the 5 minute mark of the video where there was a man in the middle of the track. Anything could go wrong on the two cars racing at high speed with someone still on the track. This should not be allowed next time because what if one of the cars skids or punctures a tire and losses control. Yes very scary watching that part. The race was interesting though. Thanks.

think about this ....the guy who has to fix the nline when it crash will cuss you from start to finish . clean lines will always win when it comes to commuter cars . the k5 is the winner for me.
I would like to see a roll race with the Sonata N Line against a Honda Civic Type R. The one race that was done in the winter wasn't a good one and it wasn't a 60 roll to 130..🤞🤞
Hi Sam, must be the mapping of the transmission. Look's like kia has a better lauch compare to the little cousin Hyundai, on all model. Got a Forte GT and it's quicker than it cousin the Elantra N-line. However it is the same engine, same hp and dct, only the programing from Kia is different than Hyundai, ....I guess
Mapping of transmission, torque curve (could be the same). Kia is ever so slightly lighter by 14 lbs lol. That probably means nothing. Also it depends on the tires. My best guess they used the stock tires.
Style is subjective so who cares what people think about that. The fact that the K5 beat the Sonata repeatedly is a big deal to those who want to perceive they have the faster car.

I think the Sonata looks better than the K5. The technology brings it up a notch as well as the leather wrapped dashboard.
In fact they didn't change sonata much from the 2015 version in the interior. It's still not worth the money.

It's weird how this test turned out. Every other test I've seen the sonata edges Kia car. Something is clearly off.

@@george.giannop the drag races on this channel have shown the k5 beat the accord during the launch while the sonata fell victim to it. Based on of that, I say k5. I could be wrong

@@george.giannop the launch control on the sonata is finicky and unreliable. Everyone has had trouble using it with its needless complexity. And when one does get it right, it doesn't launch hard at all. Even with the summer tire option on the sonata, I still believe the k5 will edge it out slightly. Only based off of what I've seen from other drag races with the same cars on this channel. I believe the sonata has about 5 more hp, which may or may not contribute on the roll.

What makes you think they don't have the same transmission? From my understanding they both are using the new wet dual clutch that is the same in the new veloster N.

@@SamCarLegion Drive by wire typically refers to the Throttle body to Accelerator connection. The transmissions are exactly the same other than the final drive and i think 4th gear is different. The fact one is put in gear using a shifter vs pressing a button, has zero bearing on them being the different otherwise.
seems like the k5 is the better driver to me. Better launches. Also is the n line on summer tires or the typical all seasons.
Nothing to do with the drivers. It's down to the ecu and how it's programmed.

Pretty even from a roll. Basically comes down to the better driver from a dig, or who hits it first from a roll from what I've seen.
Why did the Sonata practically jerk forward/back at 6:40? (You could see the front end dip downward, and the rear come up slightly) The K5 goes way ahead at that point.

If the Sonata is brand new and the K5 has had break in miles, it's not a fair comparison imo.
Shocking, and goes against every review I have seen prior. The Sonata N-Line has consistently been the quicker car, at least from a dig.
Did the Sonata have the summer or A/S tire option?
Also, having different DCTs is only something I have heard here as well. I was under the impression that the powertrains were identical for both.

I test drove both and the kia feels more powerful and faster specifically in the sport mode. They are geared different kia feels more sporty

Very interesting, i dont think the driver of the Sonata was a good as the driver of the K5, also, i wonder what fuel was used, the K5 definitely looks privately owned, im guessing they use Supreme (93 octane) where as the sonata is definitely a manufacturer car, most likely using Regular gas (87 octane) also, what happened in the 2 roll race? Last time i drove my sonata it doesn’t suddenly fall on it’s face, smells fishy!
Especially if the K5 is a car that has already been broken in. If they got the Sonata from the dealer then it has to be a brand new car. If that is the circumstance, then it is most definitely the reason for the discrepancy. You cannot expect a brand new car to perform at its best right out of the gate. The K5 does not have an updated DCT or anything else different under the hood whatsoever.

The K5 has better styling. Pretty much a virtual tie with a slight edge to the Kia thanks to a more update DCT not a DCT by wire.

They’re going to both get their ass handed to them except maybe a 6 speed 3.5 but the 2.0 stands zero chance if anything a maxima would fair better with 300 hp compared to 270 of the alrima

That K5 GT looks good. The Sonata can look classy from the side but front and rear are deal breakers for me. It isn't as awkward/ugly as Elantra N-Line, but Hyundai designers seem to have regressed over last 5 years. Even with nearly identical powertrains, it would be easy decision here.
The sonatas unique and futuristic design is what keeps it from aging aesthetically as style trends change. It never looks out of style because it always tries to look different than the style at the time.
What is the weight of each driver? How much gas is in each tank. Who is better at driving.

The n line dosent , have blind stop monitorin nor ventilated seats .
Very scary in the 5 minute mark of the video where there was a man in the middle of the track. Anything could go wrong on the two cars racing at high speed with someone still on the track. This should not be allowed next time because what if one of the cars skids or punctures a tire and losses control. Yes very scary watching that part. The race was interesting though. Thanks.

Hi Sam, must be the mapping of the transmission. Look's like kia has a better lauch compare to the little cousin Hyundai, on all model. Got a Forte GT and it's quicker than it cousin the Elantra N-line. However it is the same engine, same hp and dct, only the programing from Kia is different than Hyundai, ....I guess
Mapping of transmission, torque curve (could be the same). Kia is ever so slightly lighter by 14 lbs lol. That probably means nothing. Also it depends on the tires. My best guess they used the stock tires.
Style is subjective so who cares what people think about that. The fact that the K5 beat the Sonata repeatedly is a big deal to those who want to perceive they have the faster car.
N line is actually faster in most tests, but it just comes down to the driver really
Probably have to get new tires on both after flooring it that many times.
Not enough torque to warrant a tire change. 🤣
