@Maangchi : is Te-Pa the same as leek? or is it actually a different vegetable? We can not get it here in the Netherlands....But from the looks of it, i guess it is the same famil of the leek
No they look similar but the are different. Check out the photo of daepa on my website. You will find out they look different. www.maangchi.com/ingredient/dae-pa
I like 2 things about Maangchi.... She is hygienic and she doesn't waste the leftovers in the pots and utensils
❤️
Yes I noticed that.
Are you an India
@@MissYN-io7kb i am an Indian
I just love how efficiently you move in the kitchen - nothing left dirty, everything is used so thoroughly.
You realise it’s a video, which was editted
That's Korean mom for you. (I have one.)
Most Asian moms do this.
Omg maangchi! I remember when I was younger(almost a decade ago) I used to make my mum cook your recipes for me (I am from India) and she would change the ingredients because not everything was available. Then I completely forgot about your channel and suddenly I found you again today. You still look the same, didn't age at all and your accent is still so cute! Cant wait to start eating those recipes again.
Hey, I'm from India too!
Actually I can't find the Gosari or the mung bean sprouts, what veggies would you recommend in their place? Cause I really want to make this...
I'm thinking maybe capsicums and mushrooms?
@@shazisultan3456 IDK where you are from but in my city we can ask for 'green moong daal' and sprout it at home.
Khao pet bhar ke 😍😍😍
Shazi Sultan mung bean sprout origin from India. haha You can add yam.
@@shazisultan3456
Hey m indian too..I have made this three times till now and every time it has tasted awesome! She clearly says use three veggies max..I used 4. I use leaf mushroom, green moong sprouts cabbage and spring onions.
The fact that you clean everything from meat to vegetables to every surface and cooking utensil was one of the first things that made me trust your cooking because I’m the same. Love you Maangchi! 😘
"Go ahead you can eat cooked bacteria" OOOO MAANGCHI'S THROWING OUT FREE BAGS OF SHADE
ALL TEE, ALL SHADE. lol
That made me laugh out loud. Throw that shade, Maagchi!!
Maangchi doesn't throw shade. She politely hands it over with gentle hands and a smile.
@Rosemary Rance that is Korean style shade haha
I can't stop laughing!!!
Definitely wash chicken. I rub with flour and wash in lime/lemon water.
I agree with you regarding the cleaning of meat! You are one of the cleanest You Tube cooks I have ever seen. When I see others that are not clean, I say nothing and move on, but trust me your efforts appreciated.
@UCI6nQP5no633oGYVF1mR-rw Those leeks looked pretty clean. I believe she had another video from way back that she showed how to clean them. I figure that they may have been looked at before chopping. Off camera.
You said it.
The reason I like to clean the chicken is because of the modern packaging of chicken, so often the chicken has excess water that just doesn't look or feel right. We don't have a old school butcher to get meat from , at least in smaller cities.
@@knightofnil67 If you are interested, you can do a search online for pastured or pasture-raised chicken in your area. Alternatively, you can opt for a delivery service such as Butcher Box or another farm that will deliver to you if you have trouble finding a quality butcher.
My sister in law is Korean and cooks deliciously, but never shares her recipes, thank you for sharing
Hahaha. that's her top secret weapons to survive in your family.
@@Erica0200 I can't 😹
Secret always be secret ^~^
Ha ha 😄😄 .... why don’t you cook some of Maangchi’s dishes & invite her for lunch .... then, dat would be one expression worth seeing 😃
Haha...the only recipes I don't share are my mom's recipes. Those I cherish. However, all my other recipes, I do share because they are not mine. They are all from RUclips. 😂.
I like everything about her, bubbly personality, cleanliness, no mess when she cooks 😂 and she cooks with so much passion. Made one of her recipes, the korean wings. It was a HIT! I will be trying more recipes soon. Thank you for sharing your love for food.
Congratulations! Continued good luck with your Korean cooking!
Seeing the Home cooks on YT really delights me because just like my Maa they dont let anything go to waste. (The professionals r really good at wasting much stuff while they cook fancy). See how Maangchi even used the boiling broth to clean out n use the left out Spice mix from the bowls...love n respect. I simply ❤ Maangchi, unlike most others, she is so down-to-earth, funny, no-fuss, no-fancy cook...u really feel her warmth in her videos....exudes maternal vibes.
I think all people that were raised on a budget or still have grandparents that grew up during the great depression teach use everything and will use the broth to clean out the excess. I know my grandmother taught me. I think the fancy cooks are just cooking to cook they aren't cooking with the mindset of a way of life. You know what I mean?
Maangchi's videos are always so cozy, and happy, she lights up the mood anytime! A big hug from Belgium!
brad1320 she is a large part of my mental health. She makes me happy
Yes, she's so precious. I love this channel of her.
Then she has some spice in her too: "you can go ahead and eat cooked bacteria!"
I was just thinking how radiant she is.
I live in a college dorm now and I miss watching my mom cook. Watching you feels close to home
I love watch maangchi cooking bc she puts water in the chili paste bowl..most cooking channel dont do that..i dont want to waste any single thing..my mom always said dont waste foods, we should be thankful bc we have all this..not everyone can eat everyday..
Sorry for my bad english
“You can eat some cooked bacteria.” 😂😂😂 You are so funny. Hello from Birmingham, AL USA.
Dead 😂😂😂
i love the shade!
I was just about to repeat it too! I love her!
😁
My family is from there and Tuskegee
I suspect that many of the people who claim they can get daepa are actually mistaken, and think they are the same as leeks, which they’re not.
Daepa (aka negi in Japanese) are basically giant green onions. They have more or less the same flavor, and the same delicate, juicy texture, as regular green onions, and are commonly eaten raw or cooked.
Leeks look similar, but are much tougher, denser, and drier, and have a different flavor. They’re essentially always cooked, to soften them.
Thank you for that information. Your comment was the reason I was reading the comments anyway. :)
Now I know. I was wondering about that. Thank you!
Well, I will go to my local Asian market to make sure I have the right ones.
Antonio Tejada I was gonna ask if its leeks but ure right they look like large green onions. However I love leek soup yumm. Some of the stuff Mangchi shows us is a challenge to find in the Vietnamese store I go to:) I moved away from the city and theres no Korean stores around me. Is there a place online I could order stuff from.
Thanks for the explanation and telling the differences between daepa and leeks .
She reminds me of my mom, washing her chicken, sink bowls etc. Love the joy she shows.
I just love how you don’t waste anything. I’m from the Caribbean so we wash everything meat and fish with lime, lemon ( it gets rid of the freshness especially if you at some to the meat when seasoning before cooking ) ,sometimes we use vinegar too or even a mixture of salt and flour ( it keeps meat soft and cleans it well with out making it tough .
Hindi caption is available now! One of my viewers submitted the caption! Thanks a lot! ruclips.net/user/timedtext_video?ref=wt&v=ssAikm3ZkbE
By the way, Hindi is one of the official languages of India.
i wish you were my mom so i could eat stuff like this everyday😂
lol me too
Yeah.... My mom always cooks the same recipes over and over again 😅
Aww that’s so cute
may I be your brother?
@@dramatictoons9303 at least she cooks
Visited my local Korean grocery store and got all the ingredients to make this. We are making it for my family tonight and I'm so excited!
Exciting! Good luck tonight!
@@Maangchi it turned out amazing! Our whole house was filled with delicious smells. Thank you for wishing us luck!

I made this and it was sooo good! Especially winter time, warms you up, proper comfort food 🥘, yum 😋, thanks Maangchi 🥰
Glad you liked it!!
In Michigan my mother and I used to pick fresh gosari!!! It’s so good fresh!! I miss picking with her. It’s all over our state. And gonamul. I was so lucky to get fresh vegetables for Korean dishes as a child.
Thank you!
I'd like to go there and pick some! : )
I wish 'Hello Fresh' have Maangchi's meal kit in a box. That would be awesome to get it shipped to my house and everything I need for that recipe is in that box!
Thank you i been saying this
Maangchi mam your chicken soup recipe is awesome
Just now I made it
It was sooo delicious 😊
Great 👍
Very testy
오늘저녁에 해먹었는데 완전 파는 육개장보다 더 맛있었어요 오랜만에 기분 좋았습니다. 좋은 레시피 감사합니다
👏
Omg! Maangchi we're the same. We always wash our chicken and meats with salt. It is more clean that way and removes any odors from the meats. You're so awesome maangchi ❤️
Maangchi a lot of people from Puerto Rico also wash their chicken! No worries! We haven’t died from bacteria! Let’s keep washing our meats like we always have! I wash mine with either lime or vinegar!
Exactly, most Caribbean people wash their meats, chicken and fish before cooking. And we DON'T get sick
pickling lime or the lime fruit?
@@indoorsandout3022 lemon or lime the fruit. Even half a cup of vinegar in a basin of water. Let the meat sit for 30mins. Pour into the sink. Catch fresh water into the basin to rinse of the lime or vinegar. Pat dry and season to your preference. And always after handling meat, fish or poultry. Wash the counters with soapy water and bleach. Or to be environmentally friendly, diluted vinegar.
Here in Indonesia too..we wash everything before we cook..we can't even imagine if we r not
You’re right, in Morocco everyone wash their chicken meat and fish, but for chicken we use vinegar and salt. And I will keep doing it.
My family always washed chicken with salt and the turkey on thanksgiving!!
너무 맛있게 보여요 ^^ 자취하믄서 집밥 생각날때마다 보고 있어요~ 감사합니다~~
I love the way she talks.. and her recipes of course 🧡💚❤️😀💙
Maangchi: “Now this chicken is cool enough to touch.”
*chicken still obviously steaming hot*
Me: “Do you have feeling in your hands, Maangchi? 😨”
Lol, Gotta Love maangchi😊
Hot hands or kitchen hands
Oh, the timing on this couldn't be more perfect! I've been obsessed with spicy Sri Lankan chicken soup lately, and this looks absolutely amazing, perfect for overcast Irish weather ♥ I cannot wait to try making this with whatever local ingredients I can hunt down.

Completely adorable

My grandma not only washed the chicken with salt, she also put it on open flame ( like how you make crispy "kim" to put it in porridge as decoration). It ads some amazing flavour. I like the shade that Maangchi threw !🤣🤣
I never know how 18 mins and 41 sec went.... So interesting Maangchi and mouth watering too. You are awesome:))

Love to watch ur videos 사랑해요 리비아에서 ❤️
She does not cough over the smell of the chili. Not at all. WOW.
For those who can't find gosari, I tried it with dried Lilly flower and it had a similar texture and was delicious! Didn't taste too different from what I had in Korea.
Hi Maangchi i have found you week ago and i have been watching alot of cooking videos recently.
