Yeah, my mom scares me with the giant standard butcher knife (idk how but all asian moms have them) and gets mad when I come home late. But deep down she cares about me and supports me. I joke a lot about my culture, because my parents are the standard stereotypical type, but there are pros to it = good food
My husband grew up eating his Korean mother's wonderful cooking and she left big shoes to fill. I have tried in the past to make Korean dishes for him using written recipes and failed miserably. I started watching your videos recently and you explained everything so well, I thought I might be able to follow along. I am proud to report that I made this bibimbap for him tonight and he ate every bit! He was so happy with the taste that he took pictures and sent him to his mother (who will like that I am trying to cook the food he loves for him). It gives me confidence to try some of the other dishes you have posted. Thank you so much, I have one happy husband tonight!

This is my favorite dish in the whole world. I worked for Japanese restaurant many years ago and the owner was this tough hilarious old Korean woman, and after lunch or dinner shift she always closed the store and fed us korean dishes. She taught me how to make bibimbap (and I bought a dolsot!) and my other favorite dish sujabi :) It was so nice for her to not just treat us like employees but like family and to feed us every day (hah she wouldn't let you leave unless your belly was full!!). You remind me of her so much! I love watching your videos and I love your happy personality :) Congrats on all of your success!
She is the most beautiful angel I supposed. Each menu she 's cooked, she always gives her lots of smiles. She looks nice and friendly No one hesitates to fall in love with her amazing TV channel . 💯😍🙏
Your bibimbap philosophy is so beautiful, it made me cry! I love bibimbap so much! The first time I tried it, I was with my best friend and we went to this little Korean restaurant that was run by an elderly Korean couple. When we entered, they were watching Goodbye Mr. Black and as we were chatting, we were getting more invested in the show. There weren't any subtitles but we were still able to grasp the gist of it, to the point where we asked mamma (the wife/cook) to play the next episode. Afterwards we stayed and chatted with them, and the husband thought maybe we understand Korean because we were genuinely interested in the show. When we went again, we'd eat and then chat with the wife and her son afterwards, and it felt like we were visiting our Korean granny instead of going to a restaurant.
my daughter is currently sick with chicken pox, in a very bad mood. When I play maangchi videos she smiles, yells "hello" , stares at her on the screen, and nods and answers to everything she says (and she doesn't even understand english). It can last very long! Maangchi is the best answer to every problem! Thank you maagchi!
She’s too young to be my mother but I feel like she is a sweet close family member teaching me secrets that are passed from one generation to another..
Vegetarians can substitute baked or fried tofu instead of meat. Cut in cubes or your favorite size and marinate overnight with soy sauce, garlic, and honey, just like Maangchi did the meat, only more liquid. You can either add like that to the bowl or bake or sauté first if you like a firmer texture. I am definitely trying this recipe!
I put the meat seasoning on portobello mushrooms. I was miffed that I didn't have eggplant as I wanted to serve the mushrooms as mushrooms. Hubby loved it.

The results were always delicious, so every time I want to learn a new Korean recipe, I go directly to Maangchi recipe and it never failed me!!. It's a like-dislike ratio of 54:1. That's actually very little for RUclips. She's fine. Though why you would dislike such an inoffensive video in the first place i have no idea.
I made this last night for my partner and I. I love extra Spicy so I substituted beef for Chicken and used a spicy malaysian stir fry paste with it. It was a delicious meal. Thank you Maangchi for making it so easy
Delicious ! I made this for the first time today and my 83 year old mother and brother loved it . I served it with mashed potatoes and snow peas stir fried in sesame oil with sesame seeds and lemon : A delicious meal . Thanks for the great instructions , it makes making new food so much easier and allows me to try new recipes with confidence . Looking forward to more cooking with you .
I'm American and encountered a Korean restaurant by accident in Baltimore. The cook-owner barely spoke English except to say, "Very spicy! Korean food! Korean food!" So I took a chance and ordered a fish stew based on the picture in the menu. I tried explaining I was okay with spicy food. It was delicious. The side dishes were amazing. Afterwards, he gave us a non-alcohol sweet rice drink as a dessert on the house. It was delicious. We couldn't speak each other's language but I think he knew how much we enjoyed his food and how much we respected him. Some years later. I saw a Korean restaurant in Philadelphia and visited. She did things somewhat differently but it was always delicious and she was so kind. She explained some of the ingredients to me. I learned a few words of Korean and a little bit of the culture. Many years later. I still admire her seriousness as a restaurant owner/cook and how kind she was to me when I wanted a solid, delicious meal. I love the small dishes beforehand, the tofu or sea food stews, the kimchis. I love the cold soup. I love the delicate care and robustness in Korean food.
I married an Asian gentleman raised in America. But likes Asian food. I did not know how to cook until mother-in-law showed me a few dishes all Japanese. After many tests of marriage I finally understand how important it is to make food husband loves. Korean is good because he enjoys spicy foods best. Thank you
I'm brazilian and a gastronomy student. Gonna study asian cuisine next semester. I was interested in japanese, chinese or thai food, but you really opened my eyes up to korean food. Very interesting. Thank you =)
Bibimbap is the first Korean dish I’ve ever tried and its sooooo goooood. I love dolsot bibimbap because of the crispy rice, and it helps cook the beef and egg yolk.
I love it how she keeps cleaning her utensils right before every procedure. One good way to enjoy your food is to prepare it safely. Love your videos 선생님!
Hi! Maangchi I have been watching you since high school, you made me fall in love with cooking and food. 5 years after watching your channel and practicing, I am now on MasterChef Korea! Every time I watch your clips, I feel like I belong to a group of people who really love to learn Korean culture. SO NICE!!! YOUR EFFORT IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!!
As an American GI who was 19 when deployed to S. Korea, trained in their language, it was an eye opening experience and I miss it at times. I found their culture to be friendly, yet reserved at times and still not completely over the Korean war mindset. I found that, as I traveled all over the country, the people in Seoul and near the DMZ were a lot more tense and not as welcoming to the GIs. Some of that was well deserved though, as some GIs were not happy to be stationed there and looked at the Koreans as "below" them. I didn't make my fellow GIs too happy when I would get onto them for treating Korean's badly, it made us look bad and we were in their country! The joke was that I was more Korean than American, as I lived with ROK troops more than GIs, but I took that as a compliment. Very loyal soldiers! The people in the southern part of the country were a lot more friendly and open to showing Korean culture, history, and were very friendly when it came to opening up their home to a stranger. I met a lot of older Koreans who were alive during the war and were thankful for the US. I liken the North vs South situation similar to the Hatfield and McCoy type issue, it was pretty tense near the DMZ. I loved it there, learned so much as a young man, and still hope to go back some day. I can still remember the smell of the Korean air hitting my nose when I first got off the plane! Good times!
I've been a silent subscriber for years and quarantine brought me here because I miss eating this dish which apparently is my favorite Korean food. And when I think just about any Korean food, she's the very first 엄마 that pops in my mind. I always associate her with colorful, mouth watering, healthy Korean food! Much love to you 어머님! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your inspiration, Maangchi! I learned to make mung bean sprouts this week and was looking for a mung bean sprout recipe and decided to give this Bibimbap recipe a try, today! I incorporated the vegetables that I had on hand such as carrots, broccolli, mushrooms, kale, cauliflour, orange pepper, red onion and instead of raw beef I used chicken breast cut in strips mixed with the sauce ingredients. I cooked everything separate and then placed each fried ingredient into my electric skillet to keep all the ingredients hot and then placed everything on a dish around a bed of rice and topped it with the fryed chicken, bacon bits and a fried egg. This is my first time cooking Korean Style and I have to say that I really enjoyed all the individual tastes of the vegetables and the nutty sesame flavor! The chicken was very tender and the bacon really enhanced the taste as well! Thanks again for demonstrating how to make this most delicious, enjoyable, healthy and nutritious meal. :)
When I came to korea, I fell in love with bibimbap. Bibimbap will taste weird n quite bland if you just try each ingridient, but when you mix them, omg so addicting
I tried this recipe today, I used only the vegetables and chicken breast instead and still, it turned out so good. My family loved it, thank you so much for this recipe!
Even Koreans don't put all the ingredients. Just putting what you have and replacing some of the ingridients is common. There could be so many varieties. Restaurants or diligent moms would put almost all the ingredients in the clip but not me :)

Also with the root thing, we don’t have it in our country. But the result was awesome. Thank u for the video, it’s helps me a lot

Today I tried and made Bibimbap for the first time. It was amazing!!! I wasn’t brave to use raw meat and so I used fried tofu instead and prepared it with the soy-scallion seasoning sauce and multigrain rice per Maangchi’s cook book! I was ambitious and used lots of vegetables. My family and I really enjoyed it! Thank you Maangchi!

Woah, congratulations!
Good times!
I’ve been watching you since 2013 when I was still in elementary school! Your channel is the reason I became a fan of Korean food lol
👍
That is so sweet of you to want your readers/viewers autographs! You are so genuine and kind!

Each time I hear her say, "Hello everybody!" It puts a big smile on my face.

Bibimbap will taste weird n quite bland if you just try each ingridient, but when you mix them, omg so addicting
the comparison with the shirt and the bibimbap was beautiful
Right? That really made the video for me. She doesn't just cook, she treats you like she's your sweet auntie who loves you

Even Koreans don't put all the ingredients. Just putting what you have and replacing some of the ingridients is common. There could be so many varieties.
Restaurants or diligent moms would put almost all the ingredients in the clip but not me :)
I hope you cooks the chicken.

I’m from Vietnam. Your recipe is really amazing. I tried to do the same except for the beef because I don’t have much money so I only seasoning it with honey and black pepper. Also with the root thing, we don’t have it in our country. But the result was awesome. Thank u for the video, it’s helps me a lot

Maangchi what if I don't want to use beef? Can I use pork? I'm from India. :/
Maangchi
You can add pork instead of beef. However, you should cook pork well! Or you don't need to put meat in it. - Korean people passing by.
+Siya Belliappa I didn't know Indians eat pork but don't eat beef
is it traditionally used in restaurant s, the meat? is there any vegetarian option?
