      If anything that should probably tell you that the products are similar enough that differences in testing come from testing implementation, not the products themselves

    • @Gumshoe88

      agree…if here the only significant difference was how to apply, in my decades of enjoying cars it’s usually price.

      Thinking exactly the same thing. Was fixed on the Griots after several videos and comments, then I come here. I don't see where the application is that different, but the results hugely vary. Trying to decide on a new pressure washer and it just seems many reviewers are just trying to sell shit.

      @@bogieman101 Hey bogie, the reason I am currently using Meg’s ceramic spray is that it can be applied several different ways and Ive been pleased with the results. Good thing is that if you buy something and want to try a different brand its not that expensive. May try Griots next time. 🤔

    You can use Griots as a drying agent to top off every time you wash your vehicle.
    Only the first application needs to be dry.
    Second,Griots has a new speed shine with ceramic to top this off while doing a quick clean.
    My thoughts,if you use Griots to polish and protect,stay in the line.
    If you like MEGS,likewise.
    Ceramic reacts better on products using similar chemistry.
    Also, make sure both cure in a dry area away from rain,etc. Even a heavy dew will affect it. Cheers.

    Great matchup between two of my favorite spray wax products. I have used both of these Si02 infused waxes in my detail shop for the past four months. I place a heavy emphasis on appearance and my observations are similar to yours. The Meguiars HCW works well on darker colors where it adds wonderful depth and gives the paint a a warm glow that can only be replicated with a well formulated carnauba or montan wax. The Griots Ceramic 3-In-1 Wax really makes lighter colors “pop” with a brilliant glossy shine.
    I have found that both of these products need a minimum of two layers (12 hours apart) in order to provide durable protection. A third layer adds more depth and protection. This is a highly competitive product category and I can’t wait for all the new Graphene oxide infused sprays that will be released in the future.

He put a good 12 different ceramic sprays on the hood and after about nine months the Griots was one of the handful still beading. The durability of Griots is good, even at 12 washes it’s been proven that this will bead strong for months at al time. So while maybe back to back washes it’s not the strongest in that test. On panels daily driven it holds up surprisingly well.

    It interesting to watch many of the testing videos and see varying results. Some have the Griot's outperforming Meguiar's and other videos with Meguiar's on top. For the price range and what these products offer, can't really go wrong with either one. Both are around the same price point, very easy to apply, and provide adequate protection for spray on ceramic waxes.

    With the meguiars, it needs high pressure water to wash off the hydrophilic chemicals and then only would the hydrophobic water beading ability show. Especially when applied dry. And dry applications are really prone to streaking. How I do dry applications is to first apply it dry on a slightly damp cloth, then buff it off with a damp microfibre, and then another dry microfibre cloth. Best streak free result. And through these you still need to pressure wash the surface for water bearing effect to show.

I wish everyone copied Sandro's method at Car Craft Auto Detailing for measuring gloss/filling capabilities. these days. it doesn't matter .. there are so many good cheap options that go on and wipe off so easy, gives good gloss and durability for many washes to come. pick one find one that works and call it a day. make sure you prep the surface first to get the best results but yeah most big wax, sealant, coating mfgs don't play around and the products are mostly good . Groits, Meguires, Turtle Wax Hybrid line, are all affordable quality paint protectants that do what you want them to. Even now sooner real true coating commodious like Gyeon have real ceramic coatings that can be applied and wiped off immediately without issues for 40 to 60$. whatever you use, use new clean applicators and microfibers and you'll be happy and impressed with the outcome. take your time. it is nice though to have a few go to products that you can count on. great videos keep it up

    I just bought the Griot's after watching a series of durability tests compared to several other products. The tests I saw were long term with monthly washes over a year. Griot's "shined" in that kind of test. Maybe it sets up and hardens over time and not as good with a bunch of washes soon after application. I wash my car about once every two weeks so long term is what I am looking for. I haven't tried it yet.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  2 года назад

      Allen, it's possible that there is some effect over time. I only wait a day between application and testing unless otherwise specified in the instructions on the bottle. I'm assuming this was a test on an actual driven car and those sort of tests are hard to control for my purposes. For example if I were to test products in the summer and compare them to products in the winter those two seasons would have different effects. Similarly if I drive a lot or a little or in the crazy heat this year vs. milder heat next year.

    New to your channel, great videos and info man. I used to use jescar powerlock topped with collinite 845, now for the first time I used Wolfgang sio2 sealant then topped with griots 3in1 after the first wash, my opinion is the griots boosted gloss over the Wolfgang. So far I do like the combo and the reason I went with griots was to not cover the sio2 efforts in the Wolfgang sealant, do you know of a better combo or what do you think of using these products in the manner I have?

      Milton, I really like Wolfgang Uber SiO2 Silica Spray, Turtle Wax Seal N Shine and Xtreme Solutions Poly-Seal. I would say the Wolfgang is the best in terms of looks and durability, but it's going to be slightly less forgiving if you leave high spots than the other two, but still VERY easy to use, just make sure you wipe it all off. The Turtle Wax SnS is very very easy to use, very durable and you can't really mess up much, but it's not that great looks wise. The Xtreme Solutions Poly-Seal is really pretty, super easy to use, but just not as durable as the others, it's definitely the weakest durability wise, but very pretty.
      For coatings I would say my two favorites are Adam's Graphene Ceramic Coating (liquid) and BLACKFIRE Ceramic Black Edition. You can't go wrong with either, but I found the durability on the Adam's was absolutely insane, while the BLACKFIRE is prettier to look at. Adam's was also slicker, which helps with scratch prevention, but really you can't go wrong with either.

There are so many waxes, sealants, glazes, coatings, etc... out there that surely one will do what you need for your show car, daily driver, garage queen, etc... There are certainly some complimentary product combinations that are known. However, combining two products doesn't really make a "mega product". It's not like if you put a shiny product on top of a dull durable product you get a shiny durable product. In fact untested combinations may result in weak performance of the first product you apply due to solvents in the second product.

    • @DmitrysGarage

      I really like high end ceramic coatings for daily drivers due to the longevity if maintained right. However, not everyone really wants to maintain a coated car with a regular hand wash schedule. Some detailers only do ceramic or push it heavily. There is more money in professional ceramics vs a wash, clay and wax. See if you can find a detailer thats willing to keep it basic for you or you can always try to do it yourself!

      Hank, appreciate your continued viewership and comments! The only way to improve efficiency is practice and studying techniques. Learn from professionals who edit (which is what I'm doing) and get more practice at using your tools.
      Gloss is also just part of the equation. When you look at treated paint and think it looks glossier it could also be how the wax makes the paint look vs. how glossy it actually is. For example to me the Meguiars looked nicer because it was so deep and rich. However, it had less gloss, I would guess it just went on a lot thicker like a second clear coat. Some products do boost gloss, the spray ceramic waxes we were testing did really well at that in recent videos.

    Two things. First, I really wish ALL detailers who do these types of tests would dry off the water after each rinse. in 30+ years of detailing I know for a fact that a portion of the wax/polish/coating is removed by drying. I makes a big difference. Who doesn't dry their cars, except for the few who use a leaf blower or similar air dryer?
    Second, it would be helpful to keep the tape on the surface so we can actually see exactly where the sections are and they be marked.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  3 года назад

      Everyone has different drying processes these days. Personally I blow dry and use a drying aid to clean up any remaining water where needed. Ultimately the purpose of this test is a repeatable process that can benchmark one wax against another, which this accomplishes. Having to make it completely real world would be more than just drying. It would mean aging, uv exposure, heat, cold, and other highly variable factors that can’t be controlled for benchmarking in an enthusiast environment.

      Durability and ease of use, based on my experience, are the two things the average person wants from a product. Enthusiasts have all kinds of other needs. Some people enjoy waxing or sealing every time they wash a car. If that's you that's great. Other enthusiasts want the durability too because they may paint correct between applications and they don't want to spend multiple days paint correcting and have a product that only lasts a few months.
