Eta: Watched it. Its not total garbage but its not terribly far off (was the original really that great?).
A few laughs, some good fights... but the villain was comically predictable. And unless Connor is a pussycat IRL, he shouldn't quit his day job.
We've all enjoyed worse. 2.2/5, might watch again in a few years.

A long time ago....I had a buddy in college named Luke.....he grew up boxing and competing in different martial arts.....I once saw him drop 3 guys who were hassling us at a party in like 30 seconds.....it was like an action movie....thought fight scenes in movies were pure fantasy up until then.....totally make believe... This scene reminded me of that night.

I watched both Road House movies this weekend. This one, and the Original. Loved them both. I particularly like that this new one isn't trying to be the same movie as the old one. As Dalton (Swayze) might say. New Town, Same Story.
The original was pure schlock... from Swayze's corny lines to the totally over-the-top performance of Gazzara's comically evil town-bully character. AND IT'S AWESOME!
At 3:52- when Moe tells him the hospital travel time, Dalton should've asked if Dale's name was Larry or Curly......

I’m gonna watch it but there is no doubt 89’s road house is the best ever.
I watched it yesterday, was meh. Gonna watch this soon, it looks like dumb fun but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
You haven't seen it yet but your mind's made up. The 89 had its moments but it was so cheesy. At least you're not as closed-minded as others who refuse to watch it on principle. The Crow fans are even worse with the new remake.
I love the original, maybe one of my favorite action flicks like that ever, but this one looks fun. I'm hoping to be surprised at how good it is rather than disappointed at how bad lol.

The original was very cheesy, too. That's what these movies are. While this is a remake, it's in the same universe. This is James Dalton's (Patrick Swayze) son is Elwood Dalton here.

The dialogue and character interaction was like watching a cartoon... nothing felt realistic or relatable. It doesnt have to have a dark undertone, just dont make the villains seem like characters from spongebob squarepants, not to mention the bar looks like its a country club full of women and weak dudes throwing beer bottles at each other.. . that doesnt happen in real life

I have a friend of mine who used to be a bouncer at a popular bar... he totally could handle a group of folks just like that... although his size and persuasiveness would definitely cause them to walk out of the bar with only a few words exchanged... he was the kinda guy you just didn't mess with - no matter how tough you thought you were.

Fun. I love the escapism in movies, where we can all imagine that fictitious world where the bad guys actually lose for once.

Honestly, it's a trope by now. "A seemingly well-mannered gentleman in a bar asking the thugs to respectfully move out so that they can square it out. Thugs are over-the-top dicks while the gent patiently waits for them to give up and offers a last chance to go away. He tells them that this doesn't need to happen. Seeing that the thugs are not going to give up, the gent beats them all, displaying his physical prowess and fighting experience that he tried to hide for so long.
Having said that, I do love this trope lmao

The real Dalton wasn't nearly this talkative and friendly, which is what made him interesting and made sense with his past.
This was a puzzling remake. The idea that in 2020s america , where everyone has access to firearms they would have a good old punch up to 'take down a bar' is comedic.

Jake Gyllenhall is a really good actor. Check out Nightcrawler among others. I'm actually surprised they didnt' put this in a theater first. kind of movie that would probably do ok. Anyway, I'm lookin forward to it, despite knowing exactly what's gonna happen.
I feel like there was so much material to this they could have made a mini Netlfix series.
