I did not find it difficult like many others. You were clear and slow. In fact, your instruction was so easy I didn't even have to pause and replay. I got it the first time. Thanks!
Depending on the size of hook I'm using, I often will only chain 2 to stand in for a double crochet. It never leaves a gap. And when I come back to it on the return row I do go through 2 yarns, just not necessarily what would have been standing in for the top of a double crochet stitch or the third chain as a top of a stitch. Also depending on what you're told to do in a pattern or by someone who taught you to crochet, If you chain 3 and you come back to it on a return row, then If you just insert your hook under the chain 3 then that will create the gap. But if you go through the top two strands of the last chain of the chain three it may not do that. All of this is why depending on the yarn and the size hook - and even the type of hook, as some of them have a thick throat and some of them have a narrower throat at the hook - I may use only two chains or three. This is very helpful in making the rounds for beginning granny squares and even hiding my seams. I just play with it and figure out how it looks best, and do that.
To be honest, if I'm working flat, I just stitch a dc at the beginning of the row by making the first loop tall enough, and it never looks strange or squashed, it actually gives a nice edge to the work.

once you get this technique it works great. try doing it w/o keeping your work so tight just to get the idea then tighten it up after you get familiar with the mechanics of it. still, most of the time i ch 1 then go into the first space with my dc. this is just a different way and i like to learn new or different ways to work. i give him a pass with being slow as he was trying to instruct and be clear.

I don't think which hand you use should make much difference. You would probably twist it the opposite direction. It's a little tricky to get the hang of at first.
If you had an aluminum hook with a narrower neck then the wooden one with the straight neck that you have that creates drag and difficulty and what you're trying to do here it would be easier and come out better. Also, holding your yarn between your first two fingertips is difficult already, anything you do from that point is on, is even more so.
A good question with an excellent answer: you're confusing this method with a foundation double crochet, where you build the starting chain and the first row at the same time. The method in this video is for starting a new row without the chain 3 (or chain 2, if you start dc rows like I do - no gaping holes that way).
So. When a pattern calls for a stitch in the same as chain space. Does this eliminate that? Or it has nothing to do with this ex: dc in chain space Vs. dc in 2nd space from chain? Hope the wasn't confusing..

Oh, no, baby, There is a much easier way - when you have that loop on your hook when you've gotten to the end, and so you turn it and just put your Hook under the top ( ither just the front or both top loops ) of that stitch that you finished with on the other row below, which is now the back, because you've turned your work, now yarn over and pull through two. And chain one or two more according to the size of your hook and your tension and gauge and whatever else to make it the size it needs to be for whatever stitch you're going to do next. The bottom half of this stitch looks exactly like a double crochet the top is just a little different but it works and it doesn't bunch up and it's not even possible to leave a weird oddly loose loop in your stitch at the edge of your work. My mother's eighty-seven years old and I'm teaching her to crochet. She didn't even mess it up and this from a woman who tries to crochet in the stitch she already crocheted in because the work got a little sideways and she got lost but she can do this stitch at the end of row Turn it over and make herself a double crochet alternative.

Your left thumb was in the way when going around the back of the stitch. But I did like that you repeated the example. My sister knows all the correct terminology that patterns are made. I guess I missed that tutorial. But now I know why my edges were awful.
Your fingers blocked what you were trying to explain the 1st time near the beginning. Near the middle to end the 2nd time you did it was easier to see. Still had to repeat the second time though...
It's hard to understand what you mean because your grammar is poor. But I get the impression that you've never crocheted a swatch of double crochets. Or tried the technique in the video to see for yourself.

I just chain 1 and do a stitch in the same stitch to start. Looks great. That looks too difficult.

I'm left-handed and it just drops off when I twist it. Do you have an alternative for left-handers?

To complicated, I do 2 sc, one on top of each other. That works for me.

It does take a bit of practice. Not the easiest technique, but once you get the hang of it the result is really nice.
