I love how humble Jay is. He acts like a regular guy that loves to train and help people build their body. But he's a M. Olympia that is worth 30 millions.
Bruce Lee i meet him once and he was the most down to earth person ever. after i got a few pics he stayed and chatted for a while unlike other people who give u the pic and just leave. jay asked if i liked the pics and just bs for a bit. good man
1:30 - 1:45 Is the MOST IMPORTANT line in building muscle. I took these 15 seconds from Jay years ago and it has help me with my gain tremendously. Before, I was just throwing weight around and not "really" focusing until I started listening and understanding what Jay means right here.
yeah you wont get a proper pump if you dont work the contraction, you will get a heart pump maybe. When you start getting a bad ass pump on your second set you know you are becoming one (1).
You asked some good questions and that isn't done enough with a lot of these guys that film videos like this. They just film the workout and that's it.
Jay is not only a great bodybuilder, a person that is giving back his knowledge thru his videos. I started out 65 years ago with only magazines to train by, also Jay treats people with kindness and respect when he meets them for the first time. Jay Cutler you can tell he likes people and will always be a great Mr. Olympia.
One thing I learnt from this that improved my workout was that I did not have to do full movements but work only in the feel range. In other words no need to go up to lock position. This has greatly improved my work out. Th a is Cutler.
What a great teacher. I appreciate how Jay takes the time to explain things and engage in a conversation. Doesn’t act like a know it all (even though he does know it all).
I fucking love Jay, he's this beast of a man who can snap anyone else like a twig yet he's so respectful, helpful, and down to earth. I'm amazed every time I see something of him because he ALWAYS has this great demeanor about him.
Haven’t watched/listened much to Jay Cutler before. He seems awesome and it’s great to hear new things after lifting for 15ish years. Great explanations and enjoyable to watch.
For the people that think roids alone built Jay, you are sadly mistaken. He was gifted long before roids and has always been for lack of a better term a "Cornfed type of guy" I learned a lot from Jay long before RUclips. Thanks again for the video James You're giving lifrers knowledge that took years of studying for me to gain. Your channel will change some lives for sure.
The drugs are essential and can't be ignored though. Obviously this isn't saying the roids alone have done anything, but it would be better to be open and honest about it rather than being a "dirty secret".
J Mar BODY cutler wouldn't look anything like that without roids. Body fat would be higher, way smaller muscles aswell.he just could not have not keep that conditioning plain and simple
Jay, I love most videos on Bodybuilding, through all the videos I watched, they all keeps me focused 24 /7 .Jay I am 69 years old now, I am hoping and praying to come to Venice LA when I turn 70 or 71 to train my whole body for one week, weight training always been my greatest love and passion, hopefully when I come to Venice, others will see the passion for weight lifting and bodybuilding.
You always can see that Jay rarely jokes or laugh , he's just old school like that , I dont think he can act silly if his life depended on it Respect 🖒
When it comes to bodybuilding I believe one of the greatest secrets that helps one grow is study yourself, analyze you and keep a record of what you experience. Nobody knows you like you know you. I’m 53 And I can’t build like I used to in my Navy days. But I’m still at it and the pump never lies.
LOL to try to explain why they're freakishly strong compared to natural people. They also talk of #MarginalGains - when really the difference is 99% drug abuse.
Yeah I think visualization is a key to squeezing out that extra percentage and getting the best performance you can, not just in weight lifting but other athletic hobbies.
Through the years I never really noticed Jay or paid him any attention, after watching his videos and hearing his views and personality, I rate him in my top 5 athletes, legend
Finally they talk about the truth in Yelling! You actually reserve more power by controlling your breathing and NOT yelling out. Only yell when your looking for attention! Love it!
I've seen plenty videos of Jay grunting loudly and yelling during sets, even in an empty gym training at night so he wasn't doing it for attention. If you're training hard and fast, and the muscles are on fire with pain, you're going to make noise even if you're trying your best to be quiet. Gyms should be filled with that sound....clanging weights and people spontaneously crying out from the pain.
I don't mind people making noise if they're doing a heavy set on squats on deadlifts, or shooting for a PR. But I can't stand the fuck-stains who yell and scream doing a set of fucking bicep curls or tricep pushdowns or something like that. Those kind of douche-bags are just looking for attention, newsflash.... curls aren't a hard exercise to do.
The worst ones are the ones who smash heavy dumbbells on the floor after finishing a set. Ffs you could accidentally break someone else's foot doing that.
Phil Health I mean if youre pressing 80 pound dumbells to failure. Only a dumbass would try to place them down carefully. You could injure youre arms easily doing that. Safest thing to do is turn your arms a bit whilst lowering them a bit and let tgem fall the rest of the way to tge ground.
Ya man, what a cool dude! Be nice to have him to learn from. Just watching this in fact. Just this past week I switched to doing arms on their own day. So 5 days instead of 4 I like his split 3 on 1 off 2 in 1 off that’s great. But had I not watched this I wouldn’t have been sure I was doing the right thing. Well I guess it depends, we will see in a few months of the results but I know it will be much better. After chest or shoulders who wants to do no’s or tri’s.
Contraction, contraction, contraction. That is the number one thing. When I was 15 I had a pro body builder neighbor who taught me that as well as the proper form and I’m so thankful for that. Its not about how much you lift, its about how you lift it.
I am watching this April 17 almost 1 year and 1 month after you posted this video. But I have to say man big respect I found your channel yesterday but I learn more from you already. Thanks man.
Watched the whole video; love to hear the outlook of several BBs. I disagree with Jay's "twice a week is bogus" comment. Of course you can have fine results with once a week. But I think twice a week is more optimal. Another consideration when comparing once a week to twice a week: How many times have you had to miss one workout during the week? If you train 5 days a week and can't make it on thurs or something? Once a week means you haven't hit that muscle in 2 weeks cause you skipped a 7 day cycle. But on twice a week, you still hit that muscle once that week.
Generally, I think you would just do whatever workout you missed on one of your scheduled off days. Not too tough of a fix with the schedule he described, 3 on, one off, 2 on, one off. He definitely found a way to make it work 👍
I haven't seen good results with 1x per week. I always preferred alternating heavy days and light days, for two sessions a week. I always work triceps on chest day, along with front Delts. Biceps with back, heavy and then light. I'm not Mr. Olympia, but I know my preference. Also, only do 12-14 sets per muscle group.
The best chest contractions come when the chest is the highest point on the body. Ex) on bench you can retract and flatten your shoulder blades on the bench which will make your chest stick out. On flies its the same thing, stick your chest out and it will flex.
I had a lot of trouble with getting my chest to do the movements and just recently think I've started to get it after 9 months or so of working out. My shoulders were doing so much of it. That chest press machine Jay used first? I'd get done with a set and my front delts would be burning, not my chest. I have that damn upper cross syndrome from years of slouching, and while I've heard "pull your shoulders down and back" or "put your shoulder blades in your back pocket" it just didn't mean much to me. It wasn't until I was recommended Chris Jones' (Pump chasers) video on retracting scapula that it clicked: shrug up, pull shoulders back, bring shoulders down. I also personally have a habit of always shrugging my shoulders up so I have to be constantly aware of that working out. You can't contract your chest for shit if your shoulders are raised. I was even doing it during pushups.
@@Atypical82 And yeah, if you're having problems getting the muscle to do the movement, I think it's always best to kick the weight back, go LIGHT, and do the movement slowly with good form, to make sure you're doing it right.
@@dreamisolympia88 Jay was only doing that to literally feel his chest and that it was contracting. Like they said in the video, he does it the same reason as you'd put your hands on your buddy's chest to make sure it's contracting.
James please tone down the music a notch in future videos, Im having trouble watching this when I'm not at home because when you work out instead of talking the volume becomes much louder than the talking.
I think the what works for you along with listen to your body, the take it 15min at a time in how you feel and what you do. Over the years seems to be the most basic and helpful information. Because what I do is completely different than the next person because of my age and old injuries, non gym related. And I have never been injured lifting in my entire life, but if others saw what I do, I would be corrected and told what I'm doing is wrong. Everyone thinks they know whats right. But you have to find out whats right for you.

"i was never that good at bench. always a skinny lengthy kid. I did 315 for 5"...WTF
