crazy how 8 minutes and 27 seconds made me go from zero motivation and finding every excuse to avoid legs today to grabbing my keys and going right now 😂
I've seen countless training videos over the years and this one is honestly the most motivating one I've ever seen. I come back to this to get jacked up for a leg day and it's worked wonders. Jay is a great role model in every way and his work ethic fitted the legend he is.
Daniel Lantz Yes but for the most part it is better to over train than to under train. Most people think they are training hard when they really aren't. When it comes to legs especially push it really hard and you will improve. This is coming from a college football player.
Daniel Lantz A major aspect of squatting is keeping the barbell over the center of your feet. No matter the arguments about Jay Cutler's legs, I do not recommend letting a machine do this work for you, because it robs you of the benefit. Any machine that assists you in a movement, also robs you of the benefit of performing the movement yourself. Machines pump up your muscles, perhaps, but they don't exactly train you the skill of functioning within a gravitational field the way barbells do.
The Hack Squat is a seriously underrated machine exercise for quads. Also, I defend his use of the Smith Machine for Squats, he's lifting for gains, not to impress the bros.
I keyed on something Jay said that I also do. I never go into the gym with preconceptions of what I expect from myself other than the best I can do on that day. I start light and keep adding on the pounds till I hit failure on two to three reps. If I go in with a plan and I succeed I get the big head. If I go in with the same plan and fail I feel bad and lose confidence. If I go in and can honestly say I totally maxed out I know that was the very best I could do on that day and that's all anyone can ask of themselves. I also wear loose fitting sweats. I don't want to see the pump, I want to feel it. Seeing the pump can subconsciously lead you to start slacking off, but you can't argue with feeling it in a massive way. Not seeing it causes me to reach farther.
There's an error in the written workout at the end. The warm ups are "leg extensions" and exercise 3: is also "leg extensions", Jay typically warms up with leg curls. I'm going to assume the warm up is meant to be hamstring curls, correct me if I'm wrong.
5 sets leg press, 5 sets hack squat, 4 sets Smith press, 4 set leg extension, 4 sets lunges, 4 sets ham curl, 4 sets dumbbell deadlift 30 sets!!!! That's my total leg volume for a month 😜
I DO THAT AND I'M NOT A PRO, IT'S NOT HARD TO DO ONCE YOUR BODY IS CONDITIONED AND THE BREATHING IS DOWN PACKED, I LEAVE MY WATER JUG IN THE LOCKER FOR AFTER I TRAIN, SO I'M DOING 20SETS FOR QUADS AND 20 SETS FOR HAMS, 1 MINUTE AT MOST BETWEEN SETS
Since I powerlifter for 30 yrs I place my feet close to the same width as I used to squat. I have had 2 shoulder surgeries and my shoulders are pretty much pocked, I can't get the bar on my traps like the old days, I need some deep tissue massages to loosen up. Placing your feet close hits which part of the quads.
Fair to say no one in pro BB had that kind of thickness size and quad separation. Ronnie had crazy ham and glut separation but his quads were just round balls of meat with no detail.
Patawan C he did train as heavy but he also did lighter weights to give his body a break and to recover ,as for ronnie and some other guys just lifted heavy
I like Jays leg training philosophy. I actually think about doing sets over 10 reps. That is currently my goal. I am 55 years old and am afraid to go with any less number of reps. I occasionally do but never ever go under 8. If I hit 8 I am not satisfied though I am just focused on breaking that 10 rep barrier an on leg presses my first set must be close as possible to 15. My ultimate goal is 20 rep sets on leg presses.
Hes in Las Vegas. He can literally get food, good restaurant quality food 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The temperature is always the same. The gyms are everywhere for bodybuilding, boxing, MMA. An athlete's paradise. With the Knights and the Raiders now it will be a major sports town.
Ronnie Coleman free weights squat is more challenging than Jay cutler machine squat in my opinion. Respect for both legend's. Jay cutler is leading a normal life after retirement while Ronnie had to face lots of surgeries after retirement. God bless them both. They have both inspired youngsters all over the world.
Funny when Jay says " I hide my legs even from me until show time then I finally get 2 see what they look like"! 🤣😍🤣 It's crazy how jay minimizes the amounts of weight he's using. Just his front squatting between 270lbs-360lbs and his time amount of time between sets is ridiculous. I always feel sorry for the guy who has lead up and strip the weights.🥵🥵 Jay is always in " BEAST MODE " FOR EVERY WORKOUT. My 5 favorite bodybuilders are. At one point his legs were considered his weakest body part growing up as a kid so he decided to train them harder twice a day for up to 30 minutes. (He arguably had one of the most elite lower body’s in the history of bodybuilding.)
He'd probably lift more if he used the ancient chakra aligning chants "YEAH BUDDY" AND "LIGHTWEIGHT BABY".
@Raghav Saptarsh yea because jay cutler was 100% natty all tuna and broccoli
Fabrizio Herrera protein powder and chicken
I was about to say, it felt weird coming to a weightlifting video and not hearing those.
Wtf he only takes WALMART pre workout
Jay actually use to lift heavy but later switched to lighter and more volume cuz it worked better for him
crazy how 8 minutes and 27 seconds made me go from zero motivation and finding every excuse to avoid legs today to grabbing my keys and going right now 😂
😂😂😂
True
I bet you are still sore haha. This is indeed a recommended pre-workout.
Exactly this, happened to me today😂
Gonna start watching these right before walking into the gym 😂😂
He looks absolutely massive in that shirt holy shit
He was
It ain't the shirt xD
ThatXoneXguy it isn’t the shirt he’s just absolutely massive
If I remember correctly he was over 300 lbs off season and 265 lbs on stage! The guy was a monster! 😳
Is that just a 100% cotton shirt? I want to start wearing baggy shirts to gym like this

Jay's great but you want motivation for leg day you watch Tom Platz.

Been training 16years and he gave me the best wisdom ever!!
"You should stumble out of the gym on leg day"
That's a lot of sets. Imagine trying to psyche yourself up for a leg day like that every week.
Dingo, a natural could not do this without overtraining your body and hindering your gainz.
Daniel Lantz Yes but for the most part it is better to over train than to under train. Most people think they are training hard when they really aren't.
When it comes to legs especially push it really hard and you will improve. This is coming from a college football player.
See how milos sarcev train his athletes serch him on youtube
@Today I Got Time Cuz I agree
When you get paid it suddenly becomes a lot easier
Everyone's saying smith machine squats are bad but Mr. Olympia's doing it what ever works lol
POGI there is no right or wrong way to train really as long as you do what works for you that's all that matters
Nah, smith machine squats are definitely the wrong way to train.
Khechari, yeah, you have better leg development than Jay Cutler and you have never touches a Smith Rack.
Daniel Lantz

this is why hes one of the best...progress speaks for itself....and the workouts never lie
Great piece of history immortalized in this video. Also great video quality for 2010.
What about 2022?
The best quads ever in an Olympia champion. Greatness.
debatable

Jay Cutler is the best ever. He always train w correct form 👍🏾💪🏾
out of all mr. olympia title winners, jay cutler hard training videos are the rarest by far somehow
When I was hardcore, I would walk after a workout and my leg would sometimes act like it was going to give way. That's when you know you did it right!
excellent "old school ",bodybuilding work out. .

Please explain what was old school about it?

Gymslaves I guess 😂
He is probaby huge too from lifting their weights...:)
lol if you're spending whole middle class salaries on drugs every year you might as well hire a guy to save your energy on leg days
One of the best and nicest bodybuilders in history.
Did you miss the 19 years of training part?
The best ambassador ever. Jay cuts cutler number one. Only one in the history ever. Greatness.
The Hack Squat is a seriously underrated machine exercise for quads.

You just resurrected my confidence to go back to the gym and DO IT. Thank you, Mr. Jay.
that moment when Jay cutler uses your max 1 rep squat for a warmup (315) 😊😊
mr2big2handle thats not 315....the smith machince bar weighs like 2 lbs.... hes squating like 275
+Alex Conner the smith bar is 45 as the olympic, there is a label on it that says so

Seeing him here compared to now. Holy geezer, he was huge.
Jay, Ronnie, Phil and Dexter. I love viewing their workout video's. Very motivational!!
Still one of my all time fav leg videos. I watch it before I go kill my legs.
