When you're on top, everyone is gunning for you. How did Jay Cutler dominate competitive bodybuilding for five years? He trained harder than his rivals and won four Mr. Olympia titles.
These were actually a series of workouts mid-summer between 2006-07 at the Las Vegas Gold's on Sahara. It's a pretty hardcore gym. I worked out with a partner named Rick Belcastro, who trained with me for four years before the Olympias. He was in there to basically push me; he did only about a quarter of my weight. And this was usually in the offseason.
To get the best leg workouts I possibly could. This was less about building more muscle-my legs have always been one of my strong points-but more about keeping what I had. I was a high-volume trainer.

He'd probably lift more if he used the ancient chakra aligning chants "YEAH BUDDY" AND "LIGHTWEIGHT BABY".
@Raghav Saptarsh yea because jay cutler was 100% natty all tuna and broccoli
Fabrizio Herrera protein powder and chicken
I was about to say, it felt weird coming to a weightlifting video and not hearing those.
Wtf he only takes WALMART pre workout
Jay actually use to lift heavy but later switched to lighter and more volume cuz it worked better for him
crazy how 8 minutes and 27 seconds made me go from zero motivation and finding every excuse to avoid legs today to grabbing my keys and going right now 😂
😂😂😂
True
I bet you are still sore haha. This is indeed a recommended pre-workout.
Exactly this, happened to me today😂
He looks absolutely massive in that shirt holy shit
He was
It ain't the shirt xD
ThatXoneXguy it isn’t the shirt he’s just absolutely massive
If I remember correctly he was over 300 lbs off season and 265 lbs on stage! The guy was a monster! 😳
Is that just a 100% cotton shirt? I want to start wearing baggy shirts to gym like this
I've seen countless training videos over the years and this one is honestly the most motivating one I've ever seen. I come back to this to get jacked up for a leg day and it's worked wonders. Jay is a great role model in every way and his work ethic fitted the legend he is.
Jay's great but you want motivation for leg day you watch Tom Platz.
@@donjon4335 they’re both good why choose one over the other
@@mellowvibez2185😊
That's a lot of sets. Imagine trying to psyche yourself up for a leg day like that every week.
Dingo, a natural could not do this without overtraining your body and hindering your gainz.
Daniel Lantz Yes but for the most part it is better to over train than to under train. Most people think they are training hard when they really aren't.
When it comes to legs especially push it really hard and you will improve. This is coming from a college football player.
See how milos sarcev train his athletes serch him on youtube
@Today I Got Time Cuz I agree
When you get paid it suddenly becomes a lot easier
Everyone's saying smith machine squats are bad but Mr. Olympia's doing it what ever works lol
POGI there is no right or wrong way to train really as long as you do what works for you that's all that matters
Nah, smith machine squats are definitely the wrong way to train.
Khechari, yeah, you have better leg development than Jay Cutler and you have never touches a Smith Rack.
Daniel Lantz
A major aspect of squatting is keeping the barbell over the center of your feet. No matter the arguments about Jay Cutler's legs, I do not recommend letting a machine do this work for you, because it robs you of the benefit.
Any machine that assists you in a movement, also robs you of the benefit of performing the movement yourself. Machines pump up your muscles, perhaps, but they don't exactly train you the skill of functioning within a gravitational field the way barbells do.
Khechari, you think Jay is training for functional strength? He Mr.Olympia, not a World Cup soccer player!
Been training 16years and he gave me the best wisdom ever!!
"You should stumble out of the gym on leg day"
imagine having a guy racking and unracking the weights for you
Gymslaves I guess 😂
He is probaby huge too from lifting their weights...:)
The best quads ever in an Olympia champion. Greatness.
debatable
*Big Ramy has entered the chat*
Tom Platz enough said.
@@AnthonyMcqueen1987 Platz wasn't an Olympia champion
@@Smackd0wnKing he can leave the chat, cutler quads are unbeatable
excellent "old school ",bodybuilding work out. .
RESPECT!
Please explain what was old school about it?
+EntertainAK47 old school lifters did not look like this
Great piece of history immortalized in this video. Also great video quality for 2010.
What about 2022?
Jay Cutler is that type of guy who does legspress BEFORE squats.
Edit: Apparently Lee Haney did this too.
I would too
I also do that
Psychos
I never understood that but most bodybuilders do. Or leg extensions first
I do 3 sets of 20 at 190 on leg extension then go to leg press start out 1 set of 10 275 then 2 sets of 12 at 400 then I go squat. My routine is always the same every time I go to the gym I do the three workouts first and I will never touch my upper body until I have done my legs. In the first 40 days my legs went from nothing to f****** bath house stacked. And I had took a few years off got lazy and didn't want to do s*** with my life but six months ago I got back in the gym and that routine has worked out for me as my legs are concerned I was able to go up 50 pounds a week on legs press and squat without gear
this is why hes one of the best...progress speaks for itself....and the workouts never lie
Jay Cutler is the best ever. He always train w correct form 👍🏾💪🏾
Did you miss the 19 years of training part?
Amazing guidance and motivator, always using jays vids
I keep coming back to this video every once in a while to get that leg day motivation 🤣
Jay your workouts always gave me motivation to always be better !
3:55 love this moment so much ! 💪🏻
That pain is so satisfying in a way
@@jwjxhdjxsns So true ☝🏻😂
Jay, Ronnie, Phil and Dexter. I love viewing their workout video's. Very motivational!!
When I was hardcore, I would walk after a workout and my leg would sometimes act like it was going to give way. That's when you know you did it right!
One of the best and nicest bodybuilders in history.
Big Jay thanks for the video
great great workout from the one and only, thanks for sharing
The best ambassador ever. Jay cuts cutler number one. Only one in the history ever. Greatness.
Still one of my all time fav leg videos. I watch it before I go kill my legs.
that moment when Jay cutler uses your max 1 rep squat for a warmup (315) 😊😊
mr2big2handle thats not 315....the smith machince bar weighs like 2 lbs.... hes squating like 275
+Alex Conner the smith bar is 45 as the olympic, there is a label on it that says so
Lol i dont think thats truebut ill look itup
maybe your max, not mine
james dean stfu
Jay is the man.
That some hard work right there 💪
.
YouGottaBeAFreak
?
What do you think about that DALE
The Hack Squat is a seriously underrated machine exercise for quads.
Also, I defend his use of the Smith Machine for Squats, he's lifting for gains, not to impress the bros.
that is how a champion is made💪💪💪💪
Seeing him here compared to now. Holy geezer, he was huge.
No way he’s resting 30-45 seconds
More like 1-2-3 minutes lol
out of all mr. olympia title winners, jay cutler hard training videos are the rarest by far somehow
Back when Jay was a “full time body builder”
😂😂 yeah man, only his regular veiwers know this "fulltime body builder" thing
Could you tell me what it means i really wanna know as a big jay fan
@@shahzebnadeem8129 he uses this term on his youtube videos very often in kind of a fun way
Lol...thanks bro
Cutler is legend
He wins btw
Electronic Arts Customer Relations Manager Scumbag EA 😟
You just resurrected my confidence to go back to the gym and DO IT. Thank you, Mr. Jay.
I keyed on something Jay said that I also do. I never go into the gym with preconceptions of what I expect from myself other than the best I can do on that day. I start light and keep adding on the pounds till I hit failure on two to three reps. If I go in with a plan and I succeed I get the big head. If I go in with the same plan and fail I feel bad and lose confidence. If I go in and can honestly say I totally maxed out I know that was the very best I could do on that day and that's all anyone can ask of themselves. I also wear loose fitting sweats. I don't want to see the pump, I want to feel it. Seeing the pump can subconsciously lead you to start slacking off, but you can't argue with feeling it in a massive way. Not seeing it causes me to reach farther.
Going to have a go at this tonight !
I hit the whole workout once a week for 4 weeks
And I fell in love with the amount of volume
looks like Will ferrell lol
he really does
I think he looks like Chad Smith.
Jay Cutler is better looking that those guys. lol
roided will ferrell
will ferrel with the voice of peter griffin
Lol he looks like a football player who won the Super Bowl and then put that shirt over there football pads. He’s so massive geez!!!
Nice vid
Jay was a beastttt!!
True champion mentality
30-45 secs between sets..i get dizzy even with 2mins🥴…this guy is crazy😵💫
Jay o melhor de todos os tempos.
Cutler always awsome
Best Wheels for a champ no doubt and abs were awesome for such a huge mass monster... Quad Stomp
Leg press made me like damn Jay, then he redeemed that feeling as soon as hack started lol 😂
Good shit.
BIG JAY
What a hard work.
Legend.
great video
I really like his system: basically 8-12 reps weight each set 3-5 sets
5 sets leg press, 5 sets hack squat, 4 sets Smith press, 4 set leg extension, 4 sets lunges, 4 sets ham curl, 4 sets dumbbell deadlift
30 sets!!!! That's my total leg volume for a month 😜
Hey same for me man, but I variety more exercise with 3 4 set each
Jay is King
Modest soft spoken hardworking guy
Incredible
Love the metal weights
9 leg exercises lord have mercy
Making training look fun.......I enjoy my training
its at this point we realise why he and ronnie were the two original mass monsters
The 2010 workout put on RUclips in 2016 makes sense
Such a beast
That is an insane amount of volume holy shit
He was doing something right, still looks great
jay is a champ
Best gym ever
This is still lit 🔥 ...even after almost 10 years
Idol Jay Cutler
Super good
Wow Jay Cutler really changed since he left the NFL
Thats not Jay cutler from the NFL
miss those times
This is how everyone should be hitting legs
Damn and I hate leg day just squaring 2 plates 25 insane jay insane
There's an error in the written workout at the end. The warm ups are "leg extensions" and exercise 3: is also "leg extensions", Jay typically warms up with leg curls. I'm going to assume the warm up is meant to be hamstring curls, correct me if I'm wrong.
Hate him or love him he was putting in work
Jay cutler had the best legs ever
Holy shit that's a lot of sets! I'm gonna try something like this but I doubt I'll be able to do this much!
Great workout. Jay does smith machine squats because of a football leg injury.
Jay the fridge cutler! Smartest BB of all time! He doesn't train as heavy as other Prob BB, but he knows his stuff
Yup. Not only did he win the "O" 4 times, he still looks great and you don't see him hobbling around.
Patawan C he did train as heavy but he also did lighter weights to give his body a break and to recover ,as for ronnie and some other guys just lifted heavy
What makes him the smartest ?
I think Dorian is the smartest.
Dexter Jackson aswell
I do the same with not wearing shorts on leg day, I don't have the biggest legs but I have the same mindset as jay with that one though. 😁
2010 video quality is pretty good back then
💪💪💪 big jay 😊👍👍👍
After watching this i think i need to increase my intensity on leg day
I do Front squat at Smith machine, It' s Amazing
the man was huge
5:00 xD!!!!!!!!
Jay was one of the best, but flex was another level.
champ j..
The best
Leg Day motivation
Jay cutler trains heavy
I can’t believe how little rest he does between sets. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone do that especially with legs.
I DO THAT AND I'M NOT A PRO, IT'S NOT HARD TO DO ONCE YOUR BODY IS CONDITIONED AND THE BREATHING IS DOWN PACKED, I LEAVE MY WATER JUG IN THE LOCKER FOR AFTER I TRAIN, SO I'M DOING 20SETS FOR QUADS AND 20 SETS FOR HAMS, 1 MINUTE AT MOST BETWEEN SETS
Best gym I ever trained on on East Flamingo / Sandhill . WhY did it close down ?
Jay knows he’s had a good leg workout when he has to be rolled out to his car in a wheelchair.
Where do you buy those straps can find them nowhere
I really like his system: basically 8-12 reps increase weight each set 3-5 sets
Good
