Imagine a competition where you train with your opponent and actively aim to help them be as good as they can be. Making them train harder, eat as well as they can and make sure they were best prepared to win against you. Its like a whole new level of sportsmanship.

By helping them you helped yourself as well, the better your competition the harder you push yourself. It's also a greater accomplishment beating their best with your best.

He was right about those little victories. I had a vision of myself having a six pack last year. I was 236 at 6'1" and out of shape. I achieved my goal this week at 170 pounds. I almost shed a tear when I did 5 pull ups for the first. This gave me so much confidence to push forward.

Michael Bonyad yea there’s a weird period where not much is progressing and you feel like giving up because it’s taking so long but if you push through the slump the progress starts to come fast. I could barely do 2 pull ups 3 months ago, now I do 10 weighted. 155 lbs was a really hard squat for me, now I can rep out 155 like it’s nothing. All in just a few months

I’ve gained like 60 pounds over the years and now have an umbilical hernia. So I can only do a few things in the gym right now. Will be getting surgery in a few months though. The way he talks about body building really can be applied to anyones hobby or passion with that mentality of always pushing yourself to that next level. He was my childhood hero watching him in all his action movies and he still really is someone I idolize.

Doom Guy As a Conan the Barbarian fan since issue #1, I couldn't wait to see the first movie and drove to Los Angeles for the premiere - there were body builders all over the place and we were all wondering if Arnold was there too. It was a great event despite Arnold's less than perfect acting at the time, but the scenes presented in that film made it clear that the producers were genuine Conan fans, and we all loved the fact that Arnold was the spitting image besides! Now I know how those screaming girls at Beatles concerts felt :)

Best part IMO 33:37. Arnold is a perfect example of a guy who realizes the body will adapt or die trying with whatever you throw at it, be it 1000 lbs on calf raises, 6 hours sleep every night, and 18 hours of go-go. If you want achievement, the only person holding you back is yourself. In his book he also mentions that after his first competition in which he placed second, he was at first pleased because he expected 4th or 5th. Paraphrasing, he wrote, "I was happy until I got in my head and realized I beat my expectations, so why then didn't I set them higher?" Shortly after he writes, "From then on I was always going for the top. If you were inside my head you would hear, 'I am the best, just get out of my way, you are slowing me down.'

+DamnDesert If a guy's sitting there for 5+ minutes on a machine that doesn't really require much rest, sure, say something if that's ur thing. But sometimes I hear old school guys suggest nobody should use their phone ever in the gym, as if you can't even rest 3 minutes between a heavy set of squats and pick a different song to listen to.
I'm old school about basic exercises, but I don't see any problem with using a phone in the gym. If I keep track of sets, reps, weights, exercises, etc., I'm gonna do it on my phone, I'm not gonna bring a notebook. Much bigger problem in gyms is when the only spot for chin ups is the handles attached to the cable machine and you have 2 or 3 dickheads doing biceps curls there for 45 minutes and posing in the mirror.

***** everyone are born equal, but you can stay as you where born or you can improve. Secondly you are not lifter so you wont get it. Bodybuilding is 10 looks rest is mind. Beeing strong to overcome hard challenges like starving yourself, sacrifices to make changes changes alot more how you think than how you look. Most bodybuilders, do workout until their last breath and even in old ages when they look not great. I bodybuild 4 years now and reached alot of changes for my body naturally and i dont do this because i want to pmress someone or impress myself. I do it because i enjoy and love it cant go without it more than a day. When someone sitts down to watch tv show or play gold over weekend or spend hours playing sports. Do they do that because they are insecure? No they do it because they enjoy it. We lifters feel the same. I count minutes toget into the gym and workout. I dont care who looks at me and who there or not. I work out because i love it, its part of my life, hobby. And third only lazy people sitt and talk about insecurity and bullshit. Most people workout to lose weight for their health and and live healthy lifestyle. I dont think married man with children would care about their look, rather than their health more.

I have always loved Arnold since my Dad introduced me to his movies as a small child. Straight legend and he excelled at everything he did.

A 245 lbs bodybuilder back in the 70's, running in the sand or 10 blocks to the gym, imagine if Phil Heath, Dexter Jackson or Dennis Wolf has to run for 2 min, they will freakin explode and flip the fuck over.

Shawnbon that's one of the main differences. The freak show we have now is full of guys who stay in the gym but are still the most unhealthy. Ironic

M1, may be you're right, but if it's not on video I won't buy it. But again Arnold was 240 lbs and Phil is like 280-290 off season for a 5'9" frame.

I grew up with watching Arnold before he hit the Hollywood Scene. What an inspirational journey. Many people focus on the negative of his life. Who of us doesn’t have negative things in our lives? What an opportunity to learn about Arnold and his training regime. What wisdom he has to say about bodybuilding.

Awesome Inspiration - The most admirable thing about Arnold is that he often gives credit/mention to all the people in his life that inspired or helped him while working towards his goals.
If that was only thing about him that I knew, that would be enough to admire him.... :0)
He also is very truthful in these interviews about his strengths and weaknesses. He gives credit to a bodybuilder who was stronger in a certain area, and then uses that as a goal to achieve ... very smart.
*** I always felt competing against opponents that were better than you in some way will elevate your skill.
You will focus on trying to beat them so much that your skill is harnessed into becoming better.
*** Playing against the odds to win, is also a great way to push yourself to become better.
Thanks For Sharing This Video ...... :0)
