      Pioneer DJ.. as said by many it’s name is industry known. Changing and moving away causes many questions to arise and I like the Pioneer DJ’s logo, the name, their products.. you see it at many places, it should try its best to stick as that as much as it can and not move away. Appreciate ur content to DJ Carlo.. many thanks from DJ Camstroid. ⭐️

      @djcarlo you think this is better than a Denon DJ Prime Go? I mean, the battery may not last as long and the jogs are smaller, and it doesn't have that integration with the wireless speakers or Bluetooth. Is all that worth $500 more?

    Pioneer DJ have long standing traditions they have to maintain in order to not alienate their longstanding customer Base Alpha Theta DJ allows them to cater to a slightly different demographic with the same technologies just different looks and slightly different core design to the tried and true Pioneer DJ approach which will surely continue to satisfy customers for decades. Most of the compromises are fine, cause it will be also cheaper and in this case way more compact and lighter. But nowadays there are some essentials, that are just a must have and they could easily implement. @@NexuJinOh buddy, I do hope they make DJ controllers that are made for beginners, especially for those on the autism spectrum that wish to get started into Djaying, but the amount of buttons shown on the controller are a bit much for them, as well as having each button labeled for which one does what, will make it easy for those to see on the controller what the name of the cue point is labeled as, what FX they're currently on, what the jogwheel's features does when touching the vinyl compared to not touching the Vinyl part of the controller, so on and so fourth.

    • @DJMJM
      @DJMJM 8 месяцев назад

      @@NexuJin Yeah, but unfortunately the ones I had back in the day, let's just say, didn't really have good ears when I used to teach them how to understand how the music and the functions on the controllers work. Needless to say, many of them to this very day still have the same habits they had back ten years prior. But nowadays only two students in my class still continue to come to this very day, whereas many of them have up and left to go do something else outside of the job I did. But again, they're pretty flexible, getting to the point where I started to lax a bit and not put as much pressure as I used to. Considering I end up doing most of the work anyway, and usually the one with the ideas the most. But it was a concept back in 2017/2018 I came up with that would be say a "Beginner's Controller" for those whom are brand new to it. But needless to say, Djaying is just not as popular with children as it used to back in the early to mid 2010s. Nowadays Children would rather use lego robotics or computer programming rather than DJaying. So for many, unless you really, really love and listen to music 24/7 365/366 days every year, 90 percent of people don't really care about DJaying or Disc Jockey as a whole.

    I recently used an OPUS Quad for the first time ever, and with only 30 minutes to rehearse before my frist ever real nightclub performance, I was VERY nervous doing a show with completely new hardware. I caught on very quickly, however, and despite being intimidated early on, I ended up ABSOLUTELY LOVING the layout; the dial for the loops was kind of addicting, to be honest, and the selection method for the effects, as well as having 6 different options for the dials to turn filter, dub echo, and more... I REALLY want one! I was very happy with the entire night, and boy do I so very badly want to get my hands on one! The Omnis duo has also caught my attention, especially the ability to capture any audio from bluetooth, as do the wireless speakers. I'd love to travel and do shows in unique locations that might not always have power readily available, and lugging a generator around isn't exactly practical in some cases. Personally, the Pioneer DDJ-SZ from 2015 is Pioneer's best DJ Controller ever made. Despite that it costed me $2,250 back in December 2015, it was worth the price for the features I had. Although my parents wanted me to store it into the garage, I ended up dropping it by mistake, and so, for a long time I didn't have a case. And while my parents gave me a hard case humongous controller case, the problem was that the case was so huge and so heavy that it made a ton of noise when I would roll it to and from certain DJ gigs. It got to the point that I looked for a much better carrying bag for the Pioneer DDJ-SZ controller, and found that the gator DDJ-SZ bag, with it's front pocket, cushioned bag, and zippers/velcro included, plus easy to carry handle and soft material, made it a much, much better bag to carry than the case my parents bought for me back in January 2016. And also, considering I didn't have PA speakers back in the day, the bose companion III speakers just wasn't enough to do so, and it made me realize that I didn't want to bother doing DJaying as a career because of one gig that didn't go so well. So I just stuck with the current DJ job that I had for years now (instead of going off on my own and go from there). But eventually I'll go off on my own DJ company when I get the chance to.
    But going back to this video, after the Pioneer DDJ-SZ, I haven't bought another Pioneer controller, nor ever bothered to buy another DJ controller for a long time. And considering I would rather use VirtualDJ over Rekordbox and Serato DJ any day of the week, plus paying $300.00 one time and have ALL of the features built in for both keyboard/mouse AND controller use (Keyboard/Mouse features for free without paying extras for sound effects, video and such) as well as paying the Pro one time price for access to use ALL compatible controllers, I prefer using VirtualDJ8 over using Serato DJ/Rekordbox any day of the week. But at this point, Pioneer may not go back to what they used to do in the 2010s, so I pretty much left many DJ brands behind in favor of doing other things on my laptop and go from there. I doubt I would ever buy controllers that are standalone, considering the DDJ-SRs we have for nearly 10 years, still works to this very day, so why bother upgrading our equipment for a new OS, when we're fine using what we currently have already. However, as for video and music graphics, I prefer PC over mac for its performance GPU/CPU, and graphics card capabilities to play video and audio at the same time.

But even if I had scratches and crossfader loose, it still works like a charm, even after 9 years of usage.

    I was torn between picking up the XDJ Rx3 or the Omnis Duo this week. I ultimately chose the RX3 because it matched my current workflow. Part of me has gear FOMO but I’m more than certain down the line having a battery standalone is the move for all mobile djs who are looking to lighten their gear bag.
    I hope there could be more of a “pro” version under the Pioneer DJ brand but at this point, we are just paying for the name. It’s all the same team anyway.

Sure it's a less premium built controller but offers similar portability, the basics needed to get the job done, and pro connectivity outputs and also a stand-alone at half-the-price.... to me that's a hard sell. I had a feeling engine was going to drop this type of update as soon as this came out... its like a slap to Alpha Theta imo lol

    Well, from my point of view I think AlphaTheta is more aimed to the Non-Professional home users, those that like DJing and my do it at some parties with friends but don't ultimately do it for profit. • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  8 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, the advancements in DJ controllers like those from Hercules and Reloop have definitely made DJing more accessible and convenient, especially with the integration of apps like djay for mobile devices. It's amazing how technology has made it possible to have a full DJ setup right at your fingertips.
      As for the possibility of a mini controller with all the features of high-end controllers like the FLX10 or Rane-4 for use with the djay app, it's certainly an interesting idea. The demand for compact and feature-rich controllers is definitely there, considering the growing popularity of mobile DJing setups. While I can't predict the future, given the rapid pace of technological innovation, it wouldn't be surprising to see such a product emerge down the line. Keep an eye out - you never know what the future holds in the world of DJ gear!

    The Omnis Duo is nice, no doubt. But also, like my DJ-SM7 mixer, no typical Pioneer layout (knobs style and cue preview button ahead of each channel's volume fader).
    The wireless loudspeaker because of the latency-free radio is truly a game changer, you can use it also as subwoofer which currently offers no other loudspeaker. But however, as "DJ Talk" (German) already pointed out, this thing doesn't have a mid frequency speaker and they said, that you can hear the missing mid's. This is the only downside currently why I wouldn't buy the speaker.

Being that this looks like a sub 1000 unit with a screen and battery added to bring it to the 1500 price point, makes me wonder if its just going to have problems after you put some decent hours on the unit

    DJ Carlo that's the thing if you already have a iPad in a tablet and you already have a kit don't you basically already have a standard DJ controller I mean a standalone DJ controller I mean all you need is a device in the software and portability I mean you could literally just build your own DJ casing box and just put wires in the box and just have the plugins and then you can slide the tablet into your homemade wooden stand in your homemade portable standalone DJ box with a with a 30 to 24 hour battery support backup in case something happens this is where I was thinking that's why I was asking you in your new video about that question that I I'm asking

    What's going on with AphaTheta's acquisition of Serato? They made an announced last July, but it's been radio silent since then. I wonder how that will impact future licensing with controllers from the likes of other competitors like Rane, Numark, Denon, etc

      @@djcarlo what do you mean when you say, "it's still going on?" I was under the impression both AlphaTheta and Serato agreed upon the acquisition of all Serato shares during the official announcement last July. Also what's your opinion (once the dust settles) about the competitions gear whom support Serato DJ? You think they'll go the route of Denon and make a completely stand alone software for their controllers or pay AlphaTheta to continue using Serato in the current and future gear?

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  8 месяцев назад

      Got nothing much on the future there, so im just gonna wait and see! But it's still going on because the sale hasn't been finalized by the government of New Zealand yet. Multinational takeovers involve world governments 😆

    • @djkurve
      @djkurve 8 месяцев назад

      @@djcarlo I don't man something seems "off" about this whole AlphaTheta/Serato acquisition. Here's my opinion on the whole situation. I believe the deal might be dead due to NZ Commerce Act. (Which in the US is equivalent to The Antitrust Laws.) Paraphrasing, but basically these laws prohibit anticompetitive conduct and mergers that deprive consumers, taxpayers, and workers of the benefits of competition. Allowing Pioneer DJ to acquire Serato would cause a monopoly. Just my two pennies.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@djkurve That may be it actually! I only know as much as you do (maybe the most "inside" info I got was that it's still going on), but it's possible. I've seen many airlines fail to merge because of the same acts/laws, so you may be on to something. Again, once an actual deal has been sealed, I'm gonna try to report on it asap. But for now, we'll all just kind of have to wait and see. Good research though!

    The opus quad is cute but I consider it and the omnis duo a step backwards. The change to beat jump and looping and removal of other pad functions excludes most djs with talent past just beat matching and phrasing. And I despise all the effects being clustered into the screen. It's too much fiddling with the software when I'm trying to use the hardware.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  8 месяцев назад

      It's all about the essentials when it comes to this. The target audience for this controller isn't us who like to abuse and use all the features. It's for the classic DJs who like to mix!

  • @DJTimeLock

    That corporate structure is confusing. But i suppose it gives them room to experiment! I love rekordbox. But sometimes the quality of the pioneer controllers feels a bit cheap.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, the corporate structure of companies like Pioneer DJ can be a bit convoluted at times, but you're right - it does give them the flexibility to try out new ideas and innovations.
      Rekordbox is definitely a favorite among DJs for its functionality and features. However, I get what you mean about the build quality of some Pioneer controllers. It's all about finding the balance between functionality and durability when it comes to DJ gear. Hopefully, as technology continues to evolve, we'll see improvements in both areas.

    Does the Omnis Duo allow sorting by bpm while displaying both track title AND aritst? The XDJ doesn't, so I completely abandoned the Pioneer ecosystem. Seems like a basic and simple feature and its absence in what's considered the "industry standard" is unacceptable for me (the Denon standalone controllers don't have that issue).
