Thank you this is quite useful for people who are struggling. People who say learn vinyl yada yada is just gate keeping. It’s 2024 and there’s technology now and we need to use it. I understand that we need to learn “in case” of tech malfunction but I believe are tech now is too advanced to malfunction. Maybe you are terribly unluckily if there’s tech problems. Cool tips. I see this is more for rekordbox in the laptop. How about tips for those who play in CDJs with USB sticks? I always find it difficult to find tracks in the CDJ, even though I had them organized in the computer.
Reducing the number of columns shown is a good idea to help PC users practice to use CDJs/XDJs since they only show a few columns. To me the track browser is the biggest difference between RB on the PC and the CDJ interface.

Another banger of a video. I've been using two kind of separator "tracks", one a blank separator and one as a marker to signpost playlist during prep where I want to add more tracks. Coming to rb from vdj one of the saddest moments was losing the ability to dynamically colour tracks in playlists based on rules (similar to rules in intelligent playlists in rb). Still miss that vdj feature
@@DmitryInNz thanks! One more question. How do I duplicate this separator track in the same playlist? I’ve tried it on lexicon, rekordbox and serato. Can’t find an option to allow dupes in a playlist.
i made myself three separator tracks in ableton - one with just bass, one with mids and one with high frequencies - so i have a color code in the separators. also i pushed the volume as high as possible - and the seperators look really like "blocks", because the waveform has no dynamics.
I really like your videos ! Can you make a video about double tracks , I have a MacBook and I want to delete some double files in rekordbox and also delete the songs on my Mac. Great videos my dude. Question please- what does energy really mean 2 u? The word in this context seems a bit nebulous to me. I have a 120 bpm deep house(from ur vids not ur cup of tea) and people love it and sing along. It’s a banger but I would not say it has high energy. In your classification is that like 3-4 even though it the crowdloves it?
It's subjective - for me I use energy for how a track makes me feel personally. I used to have tags like 'singalong' which you could maybe try out in this sort of scenario
uhm maybe you know ? how can i make the wave / track thing at the top bigger ? if i use 4 decks its sooo tiny, even only 2 decks is tiny on a 4k screen. i dont want to put my desktop quality down just to make it bigger theres gotta be a way right ? also i didnt found an option for the cfx/filter knob to "kill" the track at 0% i always had that in virtual dj.
DJ'ing should not be easy, its a skill that must be learned and mastered wich makes it special to be able to do! Teach yourself to dj on a cdj1000. Without all the extra shit that makes it so easy. No sync, bad waveform visuals and just learn your songs, learn how to beatmatch, and try to really master the skill of DJ'ing. After that, you dont even want to use rekordbox anymore.. and most inportant.. dont be afraid of making mistakes!! Using stars _and_ color to clarify the energy of a song is bit redundant. I think the rating should be kept for how good you estimate the track will work with the audience, beside the energy color. Also, doesn't the separator trick only work if your playlist is sorted "by track order" on the playlist? Wouldn't the visual layout with separators break once you sort the playlist by other columns, like title, bpm, key, rating, color, etc..?
The separator works best in scenarios where there is an implied structure to the playlist. For example a pre-planned guest mix or the mini set examples. If you are sorting by other fields such as title or bpm the implication is the playlist is unstructured and I wouldn't use the separator in those cases
I Like your vids…. But repeat the Video and Heart your First words again…. Yes DJing is visual.. is my Hair rigth.. wearing only nothing to neon etc. ;)
Just get to know your tracks well and you will not need any of these „advices“. Also someone who doesn't know what to play next shouldn't be a DJ at all.
Rekordbox's UI is one of the worst. It's messy, has too much on-screen, tiny ass icons, FAR too much contrast in the UI, a scratchy looking display font you can't change, little to no resizing of much of the UI, terrible grouping of features, zero color coding of anything, missing features. I might have to do some mockups to send them.
Vinyl is like BBQ with a Campfire, a nice Vibe, but unhandy, frustrating and much more work than needed. I like playing Vinyl in a private, comfortable Session without Pressure (at Home with Friends), but live its so much stress you could use for more Creative Things…
