@@djcarlo always! You do such a great job reviewing and mixing on cheaper controllers, it makes me feel I really don’t need to spend all my money on something like this. Thank you.

forreal. I currently use 2x denon sc5000 prime and x1800. Those are coming up on 8 years old now and they have every feature that the AZ has and then some. Only thing this has on the denons is sonic link, which is a great feature but not necessary for most DJs.
I find it funny that people are complaining this $3200 unit doesn't have EVERY SINGLE option and feature from what is essentially a $13,000 Quad CDJ x A9 setup. My only issue is the apparent lack of magvel.
The problem is a CDJ shouldn’t cost almost $3000 to begin with. They’re relatively basic technology with resistive touch screens like phones from the early 2000s and a cheap ARM processor in order to run rekordbox, you could build a whole PC setup with a 4090 for $3k there’s no reason one CDJ should cost that much, same with the all in one controllers.
@@Eclipzebass Same could be said for any product but that is an ignorant and flawed argument. People seem to not understand that companies have massive overhead, operating costs, payroll, r&d etc… Its not just the cost of the parts inside. People also seem to not understand that companies need to make PROFIT to continue to exist. With that said, you certainly can build a pc or whatever else and run serato or rekordbox on it nobody is stopping you.
I love this thing and what it has done for my shows has put me so much further above the competition.. I decided to buy 2 so I could rock 8 decks .. it sounds like overkill but everything is so intuitive and the latency is incredible!! I thennnn ended up buying a 3rd deck to keep in storage, just in case one of my other 2 decks breaks down or something. 👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
No stems, no other streaming services other than beatport, no internal drive, no dmx. Does AlphaTheta even know what Prime4+ is capable of and how much does it cost?
I totally agree. Prime 4 is way above this one. In my case, I even went cheaper. I'm a wedding DJ (no scratching) and I always use an external analog mixer (Yamahha MG10) so I just went for a DENON SC Live 4, just $1300. I'veused it for 2 years already with not a single glitch and I keep on seing/reading people with either controllers or laptops crusing, allusing expensive ones. I'll keep my SC Live 4 until there's a standalone that works with stems. And just in case, I bought a used SC Live 2 for $700 which I bring as my backup. Problem solved :)
All they need was send/receive, zone out, tidal integration, magvel fader and it was on the money. At the moment it feels like a bit of a piss take to say we’ve given you want you want, now rack off. For it being 7k in Australia, it’s a hard one to swallow for what it is. Great quality review as always mate.
Tidal integration *could* still happen, but for the rest, well, let's see if there's any workarounds. Besides Magvel of course hahaha. Glad you liked the review!
@@djcarlo Tidal’s always been a could for the last five years 😂. Apart from using it through the Rekrodbox app, I highly doubt seeing it on the device itself. I hope to eat my words though and gladly welcome it 😃
"Alpha Theta has delivered big time" - really?! No internal drive, no Aux In, no Aux Send, no elements dedicated to Stem-functionality, only one USB-C for laptop connections which makes the switch between two djs difficult inconvenient, no streaming services beside beatport, no dmx, no option to connect USB-sticks via USB-C.... and the list goes on... all of this for 3299,- Euro! If the device had been released in 2021, the features would be acceptable. In 2024, that's simply not enough. At such a high price, I expect more, especially essential features such as the ability to connect two laptops. While the device has great features and is one of the more interesting ones on the market, Alpha Theta continues to underperform and lacks real innovation and essential basics.
Hopefully that *more* cones in updates via the OS. I did find the lack of USB C ports for flash drives odd. I guess most people still prefer USB A drives
Awesome review man! If AZ had performance pads same as xdj 3000 at the top and send&return connection, this would be perfect. Im only a month RX3 owner and still learning 😊
They giveth, then they taketh away. I love the layout of the Opus, the only thing missing on the Opus is the effects style like the AZ. This has the effects but missing the CDJ style buttons and Zone out.
So why is the AZ not having the same layout as the GRV 6 and Opus quad the CDJ style? Pioneer keeps releasing product with no proper upgrade with ridiculous prices. Yet none of the their products beat Denon prime4 which was released years ago.
Totally agree with the comments re price. Also, the streaming and connectivity options are miles behind the competition. If AT reduced their prices so it reflected the feature set, which let’s be honest, is not what it should be at this price, then it could be called worthwhile. We as dj’s and the community need to stop this madness that is the AT/Pioneer pricing… I’m not anti AT, only tired of them pushing products that don’t justify the price tag, (in my humble opinion) based on what the competition offers regarding feature set vs price … Thanks for the in depth review Carlo, appreciated🎉
@@djcarloglad to hear this. I have the FLX10 and when I saw this release of the XDJ AZ it made me feel like I may have missed buying this instead. What do you think? @@djcarlo yet. In the 30 years since I started playing Pioneer was always the go-to in any club. Changing the name practically opens more options since the household name no longer exist.
I was hoping that it would be a bit cheaper but the Opus Quad had already shown in which direction it was going. But still much better than 4x 3000 and the a9. Luckily I sold my 3000+A9 setup at the beginning of the year because I had this feeling.
@@djcarlo I actually did. I love your channel and your skills, brother. always stay in such a good mood. Love from Germany
To summarise: Expensive, no active layer deck colours, light control that has been on Denon Prime hardware for almost 4 years, weird beat jump button location, gated playback taken from the RX3, the same awful 3 column menu system when sorting tracks, no internal ssd capability, cue point display that has no labels (still.) The only positives I see are the ESS audio chip, wireless headphone capability and the extra dedicated master EQ. Looks like another overpriced con job from Pioneer under the Alpha Theta badge. They can change the name, but they’re still behind the game. I would go for a Denon Prime 4+ with more functionality, flexibility and lower price than this, that gives a Dj much better value.
good points and good summary! yes! There are other manufacturers who caters to differnent needs and price point. If you're happy with Denon DJ - great!
@@ryantabor2593 what are talking about beat jump on the grid? That makes no sense. What I’m saying is there’s no dedicated buttons for beat jump. It’s a sub option on the performance pads.
A very vital point you seem to have missed is that the XDJ AZ is supposed to be replacing the XZ, which is dumb if you ask me, especially as the XZ had a Magvel fader. Heck, even the DDJ 1000 (which I own) has one.
Oh did I forget to mention it? Dang, i think it was just so obvious in my mind that I completely glossed over mentioning it in the review itself! My bad. But, one thing I'll need to correct is that the XZ did not have a Magvel fader. Pioneer DJ even said in a forum post that the Magvel fader doesn't fit into the XZ. Unfortunately, looks like that carried over into the AZ
@@djcarlo yeah. Pioneer/AlphaTheta are known for doing this. I once sent a support ticket to them asking if the screens could display just the artwork like the DDJ 800 and I was told no as the screens are "different".

Well, i got the XZ. AZ got some great improvements. But: - "AUX Send" only by bluetooth? I have a Rodecaster Pro II. In it you can plug hardware via Bluetooth, Wireless, RCA, XLR ,Jack and USB-C. You can connect 2 computers in it! In XDR-AZ iI like the idea of get more advanced, but we got to think also that we "lost" a physical connection needed for a lot of hardware that is still on the market, as well as for hardware that will be released in the medium term. - LAN port x1? Can we only use one connection per lan? Use CDJ's or other hardware, just with a hub? I like the Wi-Fi protocol, but I feel safer using an RJ45 cable and I have faster data transmission speeds. From what I saw, they are only using the 5G network, when they could have 2.4G and 5G options. Not all countries have full coverage for 5G. - Exclusive Alpha Theta headphones: The headphones don't seem robust to me. Also have "only" 0.9 ms of latency...I want 0.0 ms of latency. Yes, it's a big upgrade compared to the XDJ-XZ, an update to the RX3 but it still doesn't make it a Game Changer. It has very similar functions to the Opus Quad, that's for sure, but the XDJ-AZ is very "Cloud" and less physical. One of the things that many of us were asking for, after the launch of the Opus Quad, was a DJ controller with an internal disk and that would be the ultimate game changer.
I guess AlphaTheta is really trying to push the boundaries for cloud-based DJing with this one. You've raised some good points though, and some markets may not be ready for what the AZ is trying to offer. One counterpoint though is that 0.9ms is still amazing for wireless transmissions. 0 latency, like I mentioned in the video, only exists in analog form for now, but maybe the future might hold something better. Tbh, scratching on wireless headphones blew my mind as I never thought that'd be actually possible!
This is the sauce! Only thing I was wish we had was an FX lever similar to the DJM-S7. I don't like all the space used for the mic EQ stuff but IF it lets me map those knobs to FX that would be nice. I wonder if the AZ can support direct Tidal integration without the use of a laptop or phone?
Yoo, I went into an empty bar today because I saw a DJ playing and had a conversation with him. I didn't noticed it at first but now that I saw this video I think the bar had a brand new XDJ-AZ there (I can remember the plastic film on the jog wheels). It was so massive compared to my mixtrak platinum fx.
@@djcarlo I've had my XDJ-AZ for a few weeks. Ordered online October at Perfect Cicuit in LA. They had it to me in 3 days and has a 10% off discount bringing it down to $2800. Luckily it hasn't froze yet. As much as I love my Denon Prime 4 this unit is just superior for better sound and better mixing. Mixing is more accurate, double drops more precise. Now I'm starting to understand why this was club standard.
Hello Carlo, you killed it once again ! Now you might need to update your "chose the best DJ gear" video aha Side question for you : what would you recommand to get for someone who already own laptops (coming from dd400)? Are all-in-one controllers that important ? I reckon the AZ price range is far more expensive than Prime4+, plus I really don't know if a RX3 is better than flx10 + laptop. DJ market is really confusing especially right now :( Thanks !
That's why I release an updated one every year! Watch out for it around Black Friday haha And on that note, it really depends if you want to go for a standalone. Personally, I still prefer a controller+laptop combo due to my scratching style
You couldn't pay me to pretend I care if it has Alpha-theta or Pioneer Dj written on it. 4 channel standalone, winning. I'm still so confused as to why the deck layout is different to the cdj3000 or why there isn't a rotary knob for loop length. But it looks like a really nice bit of kit
that's good! most people still do care! i think they were trying to make the xz users happy with the good old tested design. Loop length, yeah. I prefer buttons for that though
It's a small upgrade over the XDJ-XZ, I think that the fact you can control 4 channels through the software is what was the greatest weakeness on its predecessor, but Alpha Theta maybe wants to be conservative and keep hold of some features for the future upgrades and then make you spend more money... Well, concurrence is there, such a shame some DJs dont give a proper attention to Rane and Denon...
I hybrid between usb and laptop on mine it’s just every time I take it somewhere with “Serato only DJ’s” the usb crossover is an inconvenience especially when cheaper controllers have that functionality. I think it’s due to if it had two usbs it might cannibalise the sales of CDJ’s… that was the main reason for me to upgrade so it’s currently saved me some money… “currently” lol
Can‘t agree with the negative comments.. since the xdj xz everyone was waiting for 4 decks on one device.. now they did it and the az will sell like butter .. small venues, mobile djs,… this is a full 3000 setup for 1/3 of the price Don‘t get me wrong - the competition may have better tech, but in the end if you dj in a club you will face a pioneer setup. I‘m pretty sure stems will come with the next generation of cdjs
Right?! Thing is, I do feel like AT could've spent time developing stems, but then again, I also have this gut feeling that they'll come in a future update. Maybe they're just not ready for release yet (backed up by Rekordbox's stems quality), and they wanna get this unit out first THEN continuously work on updating the software.
Only thing it looks like it's missing is connection for 2 laptops at once, same flaw that the XDJ-XJ and Opus Quad have.... Other than that, looks like a killer unit!
The thing i dont like about the new stuff that they make is that it has a more modern look that is more designed to look good in the home and not something that feels professional and worthy of its price. It looks cheaper than what its capable of doing and is why i like the XZ over this
Amazing review! I am not sure if this was mentioned and I've watched all of the reviews from every major DJ creator but... do the Color FX knobs have the Center Lock feature like it does on the DJM-A9? I thought that was a nifty feature the mixer had. It's not a dealbreaker but a man could dream as someone who likes to do fast Color FX knob turns.
@@djcarlo Oh, I'm not referring to the tactile click when you turn the knob back to 12oclock. Those are standard for most gear. I'm referring to this feature in the DJM-A9 where you can't move the knob past the center to the other direction. Pretty handy for fast knob turns & prevents accidentally turning the knob to the other direction when you're just meaning to just turn back to center. But I'm assuming it's not a feature in the XDJ-AZ. All good!!
@@djcarlo sounds hard you’re like “im done for the day!” but alphatheta is just like “nuh uh here’s a new system less than 48 hours after we released one”
Whats up Carlo? Always enjoy your videos and reviews. Is the denon prime 4+ compatible with the pioneer DJS-1000? And can i use my nanoleaf lights with the new XDJ-AZ?
I think the DJS-1000 could be compatible with the Prime 4+, but I haven't tried. As for Nanoleaf, I don't think its compatible as of yet. Only Engine DJ has that
Concerned that it cannot play one external deck while leaving the other side on 2 deck mode. I already pre-ordered one, but this is pretty concerning as I use a DJS 1000 currently along with a DDJ 1000. Luckily this is something that can be changed with a firmware update (praying)

I have a RX 3 I’m wanting to learn how to use 4 decks without paying for CDJS, would this be worth it, I’m also disappointed they didn’t add any stems and you still have to use rekord box or serato
Given, stems on standalones is still very much in its infancy. Even Engine DJ's stems havent taken off. And with Rekordbox's stems quality, maybe it's for the best for now lol. But we'll see what the future holds!
Sorry if I already stated this here, but as a collector of controllers, very much the same way guitarists collect guitars, I still believe the RANE PERFORMER blows this thing away. I know people will continuously argue that point, since they believe the PERFORMER is only a battle DJ tool, however, once one turns off it’s motor, it effectively does all this does, and more. And, even with the motorized jog wheels on, you can still do more than this new Pioneer unit offers. ✌️
Though the Performer isn't a standalone, so I feel like the comparisons are a bit unfair. Given, the AZ isn't my cup of tea with my type of mixing, but one wouldn't need to bring a laptop with them for this.
@@djcarlo Fair point, Carlo. However, I’d imagine 95% of anyone looking at this new pioneer unit have a laptop. Therefore, that’s why I still would suggest going with the Performer. I hope u have a good day!! ✌️

I don't prefer wireless headphones. You have always to have a wired backup as battery is always a pain point. I have a wireless mic and I have 2 batteries for both of them and 4 (yes, four 😅) backup batteries and I usually have issues with them 😅
It's all good! Preference is preference. I always keep a pair of in-ears on me regardless of my gig as back up, but man, its liberating having wireless headphones and being able to walk around without taking them off
@@djcarlo I'm okay with wireless headphones if it works properly but I will wait for a while with it. Last time when I was playing, there was poor wifi connection. Hello everyone, in the end, PIONEER DJ/alphateta arrives later but does things better than Denon DJ, just like Apple and Samsung. I’ve never been able to buy Denon DJ products mainly due to the materials and aesthetics, which have never excited me. We’ll see, do you think this gear is better than the Opus?
Hi Dj Carlo… Thank you for another great review.. 🏆 I am interested in purchasing the XDJ-AZ or OPUS-QUAD as they are feature packed.. I am undecided though? Can you please let me which one of these two standalone controllers has a “Fader Start” option for beat juggling. This is the most important feature to me. Thank you. 😊
Hold on! 4:16 so that means if I have a CDJ plugged only on one side, I can’t use all 4 decks?? Wow that’s actually a huge detail that I haven’t seen mentioned anywhere else. My main reason for upgrading from the XZ with one CDJ would be to access all 4 decks. And I can’t even do that without ignoring the one CDJ or buying another one??
"When using 4 decks, you either have the option to use Pro DJ LINK with CDJS, OR use the deck select method. You cannot use Pro DJ Link on one side, and deck select on the other"
@@djcarlo Wow! I mean thanks for pointing this out. That sort of kills the main reason for me updating. My thought was I could sell my XZ and spend $1000 more towards an AZ instead of another CDJ to get to a 4 deck setup. Can’t do that 🥲
Can’t you just use the line input? You won’t have the pro link feature but you should still be able to have line input on channel 3 and the AZ deck 4 on channel 4, no?
Wow that is an interesting catch... So in a kinda weird way they haven't quite made this fully what people want. Still very good, but kinda odd. I wonder if they can fix it in an update lile Denon DJ does?
No you’re wrong, it doesn’t truly have everything, what about internal storage like the prime 4 +? What about stems, what about 4 line inputs, what about a tilting screen, the fixed screen is the only reason I haven’t switched to Alpha Theta/pioneer yet, that makes a huge difference.
Maybe it had everything I needed. Stems though is still a far cry from being on standalones, given that I've seen multiple comments from people saying that their laptops can't handle it. I wouldn't be surprised if the necessary cost-effective hardware just isn't ready yet
AZ is a standalone gear. Dont complare it to a controller. To use STEMS or DRUM CIRCUIT you need a computer who does the job. GVR6 shows what alphatheta is able to deliver on Stem/Sample and live remixing.
Finally, someone who gets why this doesn't have stems! Given, it's *possible* but I feel like either the stem separation algorithm wasn't quite ready, or the processor still wasn't powerful enough to smoothly handle it
@@djcarlo ah thanks yes I get that, but the XDJ XZ did I think. And also when in the settings screen and other screens (on main display) the track playing info gets minimised really small / goes away completely?
Most DJs warned them that, if the AlphaTheta name change meant they would start releasing AlphaTheta branded products instead of Pioneer DJ, we wouldn't buy it. They lied and said they'd be releasing Pioneer DJ equipment still but everything coming out is AlphaTheta. Why do they think we were bluffing? They know everyone hates the name. That's why this video and lots of others have XDJ-AZ and not AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ in the title.

Practice at home and later again at events if it arises. My questions is enough here an rx3 or would the Az be the better choice? Thank you best regard from Austria
As user of CDJ setup and lover of DDJ-rev1 I still dont get the reason of this kind of controller? it take more space in you bag because you cant separate them. and at this prise point? na,,, like I get point of ddj-400 type (controlelr around $500 or less) but this type (over $2000), WHY dont they get mixer and CDJ. can someone tell me?
I totally get where you’re coming from, especially if you're used to the flexibility of a separated CDJ and mixer setup. The XDJ-XZ is definitely a different animal. For people who want the CDJ/DJM feel at a more accessible price point without getting separate components, the XDJ-AZ is like an all-in-one club setup. You’re right-it’s not as portable as smaller controllers, but it’s compact compared to hauling full-size players and a mixer. It also simplifies the setup if you're moving around a lot or doing gigs where time is tight. That said, if you’re happy with CDJs and the DDJ-REV1, it may not offer enough of a difference for you. For some, though, it’s a solid middle ground between a controller and a full pro setup
I have a Rev1 and I LOVE IT too. Scratching, Open-format, Electronic Dance, i like it all. What are your thoughts on the Rane Performer vs. the CDJ setup? Does the Performer meet your needs for the CDJ setup?
This is essentially 4xCDJ3000s and a mixer. It’s £12,000 worth of gear (minus some features) for a quarter of the price. Nothing is stopping people buying the full set up. I just know this is better for what I need, if I owned a bar or club I’d just buy the CDJs
This VS Denon SC Live 4 or Prime 4(+)… I’d go with Denons ngl. The AZ is just a bigger Prime 4+ or SC Live 4 imo 😅 They could do better, but it is nice looking tho

Thanks for the great review, I love using the "slip" function, on the XZ every time a new track is loaded this function is turned off, has the AZ got a workaround for this where the function is able to stay on even when loading a new track, I find it super annoying that it automatically turns off every time I load a new track, is there a way to keep this function permanently on or is it not possible?

exactly right. Yeah that magvel fader missing is questionable.
@@Eclipzebass iphones shouldn't be $1000-$2000 dollars, but here we are
Cdj's and A9's are terribly overpriced. You cannot convince me they are worth the price of a used car!! Denon shits on Pioneer in every way possible
Dang! You've got quite the budget on your end!
No stems, no other streaming services other than beatport, no internal drive, no dmx. Does AlphaTheta even know what Prime4+ is capable of and how much does it cost?
It aint even on par with the OG Prime4 with stock 1.5 firmware😂
Well, at launch at least. There could be more streaming services added in the future 🥳
@@djcarlowe know that ain’t happening lol
@@lucasdemaria1024exactly! Denon is still wayyy better. Try again Alpha theta 🤦🏾♂️
Did they finally give us that one feature that weve all wanted, the ability to Analyze a track without a computer ?
Denon already did in 2019, with a 4ch controller, dual layers, physical crossfade select buttons, adjustable brake, selectable deck colors
From what I recall, the internal software analyzes your files for you, and can link the information to all your Rekordbox devices
@@geuzeg Yeah I know Denon did it, I was hoping for Pioneer to catch up. (also was hoping for an internal ssd like Denon did).
Yeap it does have the ability to do onboard analysis

All they need was send/receive, zone out, tidal integration, magvel fader and it was on the money.
At the moment it feels like a bit of a piss take to say we’ve given you want you want, now rack off.
For it being 7k in Australia, it’s a hard one to swallow for what it is.
Great quality review as always mate.
Tidal integration *could* still happen, but for the rest, well, let's see if there's any workarounds. Besides Magvel of course hahaha. Glad you liked the review!

Very nice review DJ carlo❤
Thank you so much! What did you like about the XDJ AZ?
I totally agree it is sad that denon has all the options for stand-alone plus stems, and it half the price Alpha Theta price gouging😢
Hopefully that *more* cones in updates via the OS. I did find the lack of USB C ports for flash drives odd. I guess most people still prefer USB A drives

If AZ had performance pads same as xdj 3000 at the top and send&return connection, this would be perfect.
Im only a month RX3 owner and still learning 😊
Yeah, I think they wanted to keep the layout close to the XZ's for this!
They giveth, then they taketh away. I love the layout of the Opus, the only thing missing on the Opus is the effects style like the AZ. This has the effects but missing the CDJ style buttons and Zone out.
No send&return connection?
Yeah the pad placement is a deal breaker.
So why is the AZ not having the same layout as the GRV 6 and Opus quad the CDJ style?
Pioneer keeps releasing product with no proper upgrade with ridiculous prices.
Yet none of the their products beat Denon prime4 which was released years ago.

@@Nogi-aka-DJNugz oh yeh? Why's that?
Pads at the bottom and not matching the layout of the 3000’s are a deal breaker for me.
Totally agree with the comments re price. Also, the streaming and connectivity options are miles behind the competition.
If AT reduced their prices so it reflected the feature set, which let’s be honest, is not what it should be at this price, then it could be called worthwhile.
We as dj’s and the community need to stop this madness that is the AT/Pioneer pricing… I’m not anti AT, only tired of them pushing products that don’t justify the price tag, (in my humble opinion) based on what the competition offers regarding feature set vs price …
Thanks for the in depth review Carlo, appreciated🎉
We'll see how things go with AT! It's still too early to see how things will go. Hopefully they do get a little more competitive with their prices 😅

I love your channel and your skills, brother. always stay in such a good mood. Love from Germany
To summarise: Expensive, no active layer deck colours, light control that has been on Denon Prime hardware for almost 4 years, weird beat jump button location, gated playback taken from the RX3, the same awful 3 column menu system when sorting tracks, no internal ssd capability, cue point display that has no labels (still.)
The only positives I see are the ESS audio chip, wireless headphone capability and the extra dedicated master EQ. Looks like another overpriced con job from Pioneer under the Alpha Theta badge. They can change the name, but they’re still behind the game. I would go for a Denon Prime 4+ with more functionality, flexibility and lower price than this, that gives a Dj much better value.

better repairability of the faders would be nice, as with the djm, but that is a question of price. Nice that there is finally an IEC plug

Well, i got the XZ. AZ got some great improvements.
But:
- "AUX Send" only by bluetooth?
Yes, it's a big upgrade compared to the XDJ-XZ How so? I don't think so 😞
This is the sauce! Only thing I was wish we had was an FX lever similar to the DJM-S7. I don't like all the space used for the mic EQ stuff but IF it lets me map those knobs to FX that would be nice.
I wonder if the AZ can support direct Tidal integration without the use of a laptop or phone?
I believe that should be possible! In time maybe.
Tidal integration would be HUGE for me too. With its futureproofing It has to be a possibility since beatport is in there
Yoo, I went into an empty bar today because I saw a DJ playing and had a conversation with him. I didn't noticed it at first but now that I saw this video I think the bar had a brand new XDJ-AZ there (I can remember the plastic film on the jog wheels). It was so massive compared to my mixtrak platinum fx.

Stems on a standalone don't exist yet, so maybe that's their next big project! Hopefully they fix Rekordbox stems first haha
Hello Carlo, you killed it once again ! Now you might need to update your "chose the best DJ gear" video aha
Side question for you : what would you recommand to get for someone who already own laptops (coming from dd400)? Are all-in-one controllers that important ? I reckon the AZ price range is far more expensive than Prime4+, plus I really don't know if a RX3 is better than flx10 + laptop. DJ market is really confusing especially right now :( Thanks !
That's why I release an updated one every year! Watch out for it around Black Friday haha
And on that note, it really depends if you want to go for a standalone.
Based on the comments, I think DJs are beginning to give the others a bit of attention
I’ve got an XZ but was hoping for 2 laptop connections for instant crossovers… next time lol
Ohhhh yeah. That probably would've been a great idea. Though, the way I see it, this system is designed more for USB users
Enough for power mixing and hard edm tunes but for scratching idk. Solid build tho but i miss the pioneer dj logo
I've never been one for scratching on standalones, but it can still be done on the AZ!
when are you going to dj with this beast of a dj controller
Maybe soon! 🥳
Okay
Can‘t agree with the negative comments..
since the xdj xz everyone was waiting for 4 decks on one device.. now they did it and the az will sell like butter ..
small venues, mobile djs,… this is a full 3000 setup for 1/3 of the price
Don‘t get me wrong - the competition may have better tech, but in the end if you dj in a club you will face a pioneer setup.
Other than that, looks like a killer unit!
maybe in the next one? but good point! You can always use other sources though?
Target audience is definitely for usb users
That's why the FLX10 is still king 👑 lol
The thing i dont like about the new stuff that they make is that it has a more modern look that is more designed to look good in the home and not something that feels professional and worthy of its price. It looks cheaper than what its capable of doing and is why i like the XZ over this
I see what you mean, especially with some of AT, Numark, and Denon's latest offerings, though the AZ looks almost exactly like the XZ....
You’d think they’d add stems given the price and latest tech but no. Sticking with my Flx10 for a while
I'm waiting for that too! But so far, looks like stems only works best with laptops. Hopefully in future updates!
Absolutely! I think that's a standard for Color FX knobs
All good!!
I'm surprised at the lack of STEM separation on a flagship all-in-one.

Thank you. 😊
Oh man, I don't think either has it yet! I've only encountered it on DJMs myself
@@djcarloOk…. I was really hoping one of them would have had this option. Thank you. 😢
Yeah but the point is the new deck can't have one or the other at the same time.@itsdjmiggy
@@djcarlo i understand, I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate the tilting screen on the prime 4+, but I’m considering this XDJ AZ
Given, it's *possible* but I feel like either the stem separation algorithm wasn't quite ready, or the processor still wasn't powerful enough to smoothly handle it
@@djcarlo Guess we have to wait another 3-4 years before we see standalones able to use stems without attached computer.
Why no internal screen in the jog screen to show wave forms and time etc? Don’t care much for album art
Probably because the information is already on the touch screen. The other gear with wave forms on the jog screen aren't standalone ones
Actually, I only didn’t include it because it was so long haha. A bunch of my other videos don’t have the brands on them either. But I do see your point! Only time will tell how kind history will be to the AlphaTheta name
Hello very nice videos what you produce. Very informative I would have a question for a professional. I released x years ago with vinyl. Now I would like to hang up again. Practice at home and later again at events if it arises. My questions is enough here an rx3 or would the Az be the better choice? Thank you best regard from Austria
The AZ would be my pick, given the upgraded technology used in it
@@djcarlo Thank you very much for your answer 🙏 best regards from Austria Matthias
make em spinnin platters and rev/djm-s mixer layout, take my money🎉
maybe with the REV7 Mk2?
Bro that's my dream controller too, AND 4-channel mixing capabilities like this? 100%
As user of CDJ setup and lover of DDJ-rev1 I still dont get the reason of this kind of controller? it take more space in you bag because you cant separate them. and at this prise point? na,,,
like I get point of ddj-400 type (controlelr around $500 or less)
but this type (over $2000), WHY dont they get mixer and CDJ.
can someone tell me?
@@djcarlo wow ty for answering question!
ture,,, $3000is cheep if I think Im getting whole setup in club
@@いぇん-q6s right! different gear for different needs :)
I waiting a new Denon ❤❤❤
should be coming within the next 48 months!
LOVE IT
It's a wonderful all in one system,, that's for sure!
This VS Denon SC Live 4 or Prime 4(+)… I’d go with Denons ngl. The AZ is just a bigger Prime 4+ or SC Live 4 imo 😅
They could do better, but it is nice looking tho
I actually can't wait to see what else AlphaTheta and Denon do in the future. Looks like the all in one game is heating up even more 😆
@@djcarlo Haha yeah it’s gonna be a sick ride!😝
Thinking about this for a second, my flx-6 has a really big advantage over this (stems)
Though this is a standalone unit, so I feel like the comparisons aren't fair
The only thing this has over the denon products is the low latency wireless audio. Ill stick with the denons for now.
That's fair! I wonder when other companies will release low latency products too though. Exciting times we live in!
@@djcarlo Exciting indeed. Bluetooth technology has drastically improved in recent years, but many technology manufacturers have not capitalized on this advancement. There is tons of room of room for improvement and I look forward to others adopting the technology. Competitors will surely follow suit.
I'll need to check on that. There might be a setting
It's quite litterally perfect for actual pro DJs looking for a way to not spend 11k on gear to get the standart club setup. I can't believe how many people talk about stems when LITERALLY not one DJ in my 5+ years in the techno scene has ever mentioned them : it's a non issue for actual pros & headlining acts
exactly! but for the enthusiasts, stems is huge!
@@djcarlo people don't like when Pioneer/AlphaTheta makes product for different markets i guess, this will sell like pancakes and my preorder is already ready with my local store lol
@@maxbtl congrats man! You're gonna love the unit. Its' always the vocal minority that boggles launches like this
Complaining about lack of stems shows how much ignorance people have about processing power
@@Nogi-aka-DJNugzor maybe shows how much progress we made in computing power and still pioneer is releasing old product rebranded with high price tag and no innovation since ages. End result, let us grab your money, we dont care your opinion…
And does it analyze the songs? Also it doesnt have release fx neither the samplea and i have notice the rx3 is out of stock hopefully they put it back.
good question! from testing, yes it does!
Can you use a RMX1000 with the AZ?
I don't have one at the moment, so I can't test it out
How does this compare to the Prime 4
It goes toe to toe pretty well! Though, I'll have to give the AZ a little more as this was a fresh design and upgrade. The Prime 4+ was just an upgrade
Apart from the looks, how do you compare this with opus quad
Personally, I prefer this. It feels a little more solid
im bout to cancel my soundcloud go+ for bpm supreme, is there any major stuff i should know before pulling the trigger?
I'd recommend trying both out for a bit, and seeing which one suits your needs better! Though BPM Supreme has a lot of exclusives!
Will you be comparing the AZ to the OPUS?
Probably not. They've got their own individual reviews now, so I don't think I'll need to make a comparison video :)
@@djcarlo what would be a reason to get the opus over the AZ?
@@Hayesvalleyif you are not a performance DJ who use pads and just use a few effects because of your mix and music styles go for Opus.
Yah I’ll wait for a stems controller great controller tho 😊
Check out the newest Engine DJ stems update on that subject
When will we see the Pioneer RX4?
It's probably going to the be AlphaTheta RX4, but I have no idea either
The headphones seem cool but is the wireless-ness that game changing?
YES AND YES. OMG it's incredible to Scratch and do crazy button routines with near zero latency. I CAN'T FEEL THE DIFFERENCE!!!
@@djcarlo that is so promising. Especially if you don't notice it, with all your years of experience!!!
It looks like a great machine but you can already get more for less with a Prime 4 or with VDJ and a decent 4 channel controller.
I do believe SonicLink gives it an advantage, though it'll unfair to compare it with a laptop-dependent 4 channel controller. Different capabilities and specs haha
I'll stick with my Denon Prime 4+.....when STEMS is rolled out for the DP4+ all other will still be playing catch up
I do wonder when they'll release the full version though. It's been a while since I tried it out, and I haven't heard much from them since 😅
Will you do a mix using the Pionner XDJ AZ?
Of course! Stay tuned for it! 🤭
Amazing review as always. Is there something in the settings that lets you program the RGB? I want it looking sleek and one colour like the opus quad or the flx4. Having the pad colour linked to the cue colour means nothing to a lot of people because we just know it as ABCDEFGH and not by colour
I believe so! You may be able to do that in the settings, but I haven't tried
hmm good suggestion! As of right now, no. The pad color settings stay as they are programmed on the unit.
Well I'm just gonna buy a refurbished $300 MacBook I think, that will give my XDJ-XZ a nice big screen and bring me inline with all the main features of the AZ. A nice big screen, 4 deck playback, all the streaming, etc .
That works as well! Just don't forget that the AZ uses a type C plug to connect to laptops
Did they remove the record to USB feature that the XZ has or has it been moved to the touch screen?
I believe it's been moved to the touch screen. Nearly everything is there now
Please reply I have noticed that pioneer sound quality is better than alphatheta don’t why maybe they sell different products in india
That shouldn't be! They're the same company! It might just be a trick of the mind with the brand switch haha
