    Hi Phil, As a beginner you always manage to answer my questions without even asking. Well done very well detailed explanations.

    Had my first gig this past week - if you can get down before the start of the event and familiarise yourself with the layout of the decks/controller and the mixer, do some mixing in your headphones, it really helps. I'd never touched club level equipment before, but knowing I'd formatted my USBs correctly and having a play with the kit before everything started really helped with the nerves.

      It is an easy thing to say but it’s like comparing horses to spacecraft, and so not really useful in pushing the debate forwards

      Apart from the sarcasm he is right, I would not say its space technology and horses. Keep in mind the listener. Most of them dont care / recognise / distinguish if its played on the newest controler or tape real. Most of that comes down to the creativity / feel / talent / call it whatever and first and most important to the music selection.
      But this is against the paradigm that technology or every invention equals progress. I wont even get in to the consumerism how the biggest dj gear corporation play that game...

    In music. Do NOT do servicing on the Numark range any more !! I sent my NVii to an.engineer in Bournemouth.
    Replaced all faders , took it apart and literally hand washed all the pads/buttons and excluding postage cost me £145. Absolute bargain . Awesome Comms. Nice guy asked before doing anything . 100000%

      you can actually do it yourself.. In Music makes parts readily available for their various brands..
      if you're handy with a soldering iron, grab a can of contact cleaner and some fader lube and you'll have your hardware working like new in no time. as long as they don't adopt Alpha Theta's planned obsolescence strategy... which seems like a long shot because Alpha Theta is always getting pass from DJs whenever they come out with their anti-consumer decisions..

    With being more comfortable on DJ livestreams, one thing I want to emphasise is that being a livestream DJ is completely different to DJing in a venue, in that you need to really make the effort to show your personality, because you are not a DJ in the traditional sense, you are a full-on ENTERTAINER. The amount of livestream DJs I see on Twitch that are not engaging much is rife, and there's a reason they aren't getting loads of views. My suggestion would be to go and watch some of the bigger Twitch DJs to get an idea on how to really engage and outwardly show your personality. Why would someone come back to your stream if you're just standing there, not getting into your music, not engaging with the chat etc? A viewer might as well find a curated playlist on youtube or spotify and listen to that instead!
    Also, turning the viewer count OFF in OBS is one of the best things you can ever do, especially when you're starting out. That way any number changes won't dishearten you or make you nervous, you can just focus on being entertaining.
    I've been a Twitch streamer (initially a variety streamer, then switching to purely DJ streaming) for 4 years now and making sure your personality comes through as well as showing that you're having fun are the two biggest things.

      This is great advice. There are elements of local radio DJing and mobile DJing involved in live streaming. Love this comment!

    If Pioneer products have a “life cycle” I think Alpha Theta would do well to let you know when that lifecycle will be up. In terms of registering the product to your account, does that make selling on your gear more difficult? I guess in both instances they both will have an impact on how well or badly Pioneer/Alpha Theta products hold their value in the future.

    • @digitaldjtips
      @digitaldjtips  4 месяца назад

      They should definitely tell you on purchase, we agree. And presumably you can deregister and reregister gear when it comes to selling

    I am not sure if DJ monitors are very different from studio grade grade monitors, but the reason I will advice against using studio monitors for PA, is because of the frequency response. I usually work 8-12 hours in the studio, and if I go out to check out some sets after that, I will simply leave if they are using monitors for PA, as ear fatigue will just make it unbearable. Like you could just use a good EQ to address the frequency response of a monitor, as recreational listening speakers will just filter out the regular frequencies, to make it a way better listening experience. It is sort of the thing that will set good PA speakers from the dirt cheap speakers that come across as not sounding as good. Not to forget that monitors are usually designed to work best in treated rooms, and good PAs will have an EQ to take out the resonant frequencies in that venue, so you do not get those nasty sounding buildups on certain frequencies. Breaking the monitors are the least of the worries as a DJ, respecting the audience is the only concern worth talking about, however most modern DJs seem to act like their core audience can not tell a 128kbps MP3 apart from 32-bit WAV. Sounding better is underrated, and renting a PA might be a quarter of your rate for the evening, but for me it has been worth just getting a basic 2 sub, 4 top for even the smallest venues. Like running a 4000w PA at 20% or even 10% capacity sounds so much nicer that running a pair of 8" monitors at 110%, or even if they fill the room at 80%, that unfiltered 1K will give me a headache after a long day mastering, even if it is at speaking levels. Personally, I just bought myself 2 used ghetto blasters that I used back in the days, giving me 4x8" speakers and tweeters, all with premium filtering, aux inputs, BT and whatnot for 20$, still louder than my studio monitors, and I could not care less when someone kicked them over or spilled beer on them, because even back then, it was less than 10% of my rate to pick up a new pair.

      Agree but these are budget speakers that have some pragmatic features (grilles, “casual” EQ baked in) that - as I say - made me realise they are designed for more than just monitoring. An exception to the rule, possibly.

    • @chent
      @chent 4 месяца назад

      @@digitaldjtips Just look up the frequency response, and compare them to the frequency response of any non-monitor speaker. There is a reason any respectable studio have separate set of speakers for the client to hear the finished work on.

    This is bad news for ALL equipment (new and old).
    We all know our equipment (new and old) will always work with the latest version of Rekordbox but eventually it will be locked behind a paywall.

    The software magically working if you pay, when you bought hardware that unlocks the software. I will say this, I’ve been considering a pioneer kit for awhile, I have pretty well mastered my Denon mc7000. Between RB’s difficult music management and now this. Pfft. Nah. I’m quite happy with Serato. I hope and pray that alphatheta isn’t allowed to purchase them.
    Think I’ll wait til after a decision on Serato is made before I purchase another kit. Tho I’m liking the Rane performer.

      I wouldn’t doubt it for a second. Considering how much they’re going to end up paying for Serato, they’re going to need to recoup their costs from somewhere. I just pray they don’t go about it in such a nefarious manner like Adobe or Roku where an update occurs in the background forcing a subscription the next time you start Serato.

    About the repair part. Recently i had to repair my DDJ-FLX4. Then i found "instrumentalparts", thats an page you can order as good as any spare parts for most DJ equipment and other audio gear and instruments. I ordered the little circuit board with the audio jack on it and replaced it myself. Was fast, cheap (15 bucks), super easy to replace and works perfect now. I think they also do repairs, but that was not an option for me because they are in the USA and i live in Switzerland. Maybe that will help someone.
