21 year old soon to be business student, just acquired a FLX4 after being in love with DNB for years now. Any guidance anyone has for somebody just starting out, would be amazing because a lot of internet guidance is tailored to house/techno and I need it to be based more around Jungle/rollers and how to smoothly utilise the entire deck in front of me.
I'd recommend practicing with house/techno first, just to solidify your basic skills, then apply those to DnB after. Also! Look up DnB mixes on RUclips to see how people flow with the music

Is it possible to rename the Phrases on the songs like "chorus 1 rename into drop" ? helped me a lot with this information, i didnt know, that this phrases exists!! :)
Carlo, I have a question. At 9:20 you have the visual aid with "UP 1" and "UP 3" but they are different lenghts. You correctly mix it at the correct point, but how would you know this? You could count the bars on track 2 to know how long that phrase is, but how do you know it for track 1? Because the track is playing you cant do anything. Right now my solution for this is that Im using cue points as visual help with names how long the phrase is. for example, I make a cue point and then name it "INT 8B" so i know its 8bars. But I was wondering if there is a trick or method of doing this? Thank you for all your videos
I believe some of these are on my Sellfy pages from other videos. But otherwise, I encourage you to use your favorite tracks when practicing with these techniques :)
3:18 ouch, this one hurt to watch. I was teaching a few friends and family how to DJ and they all did this lol. But i still bopped my head and acted like it was the best transition because well, they are family 😂 its also just generally a fun activity to do with ppl, so even if your not good dont get discouraged and just have fun!
Sometimes, if I miss my cue, I go panic mode and you see me frantically trying to find either a 4 bar before change or just wait a whole another 8 bars to cue and then beat jump 8 to catch up. It heavily depends on the situation but as I've been mixing more and more I miss my cues less and less.
The rules actually apply to hip hop! For transitions, it's a little more complicated, but usually it's just intro to chorus, with the same techniques applicable
Thanks again for another epic video. You are one of a kind mate! I've added the viewable phrase guide but it's just a black line. I assume this is something you map out yourself yes? If so where can you do this for each song?
Hey man, love your videos, they have really been helping for a while! About the setting you recommended, so they work with all kinds of music, because I changed them just now, and loaded up a song(i mostly do old school hip hop and r&b music), and the labels underneath the music aren't showing up, do you know how i can fix this? Thanks again!
@djcarlo ok thank u. I kinda got the beats thing a little. But yea I practice. On the weekends. I'm a truck driver. So on my Time off. I usually practice a little. But I can't afford. Options like traffic light make me want to switch from Serato. Ive been mixing in key for years now so I pretty much know what songs mix without having to look but its a cool option to see something new that I may have missed.
That's true! Rekordbox is extremely technical with their layout, so if it's the kind of info you need while mixing, then RB is perfect!
Very good DJ Carlo I learnt a lot from your video 🤘🏾👏🏾👍🏾
I'm always glad you learn so much from the videos Walker!
Te acabas de ganar un nuevo subscriptor, me agrada que seas muy metódico y conciso al momento de explicar
Muchísimas gracias y bienvenido al canal! Jeje, I hope you find more useful info in the other videos too 🥳
drop mixing is my way or let the track run to the next drop and bring it in from there i like to start any track let it run to 32 and start the mix so you got about a minute to 60 seconds of the track playing to the people i am also old skool good tips mate
Amen to that! Thanks for better explaining things!
@@djcarlo yeah I apologise I am dyslexic
Damn so helpful thanks
You're welcome! Hope you try these techniques a shot!
Great video! However, I can't get the hack mixing to work using the same settings as you. Do you have an explanation?
Oh, what happens when you try to do it?
@@djcarlosame it stays the same
21 year old soon to be business student, just acquired a FLX4 after being in love with DNB for years now.
Got a flx 4 coming in this week, im new to it all so ive got alot to learn but im hoping to make some awesome tracks
Let's gooooo! Excited for you to get your brand new toy!
Your content has made it much easier to learn as a beginner DJ. Thank you for all the tips, tricks and patience! The visuals are insanely helpful. I look forward to continue learning through your videos!
Thank you so much EDC! Really appreciate that! Hope you've learned a lot from these videos and the ones I'll be posting in the future!
Engine DJ is becoming more and more popular, will you make a tutorials for that as well as you already do with Serato and Rekordbox?
Most likely yes! Once they drop a full stems release, I'll highly likely consider it!
you rock carlo
Thank you so much! You too!
@@djcarlo 👍
Thanks DJ Carlo!!!
For sure Jam! Hope you found some useful info in here!
One of your best videos
That’s really that’s really nice of you to say!
@@djcarlo definitely a must watch for anyone learning to mix. Thank you for sharing your expert knowledge
Very helpful to understand phrase mixing❤ Much love..
Indeed! Not a lot of people fully grasp it, so im glad the software has a handy guide haha
The "squiggly lines" are not necessary for DJs, but for music producers
It depends; it's still useful information when it comes to beats and mixing in key
Is it possible to rename the Phrases on the songs like "chorus 1 rename into drop" ? helped me a lot with this information, i didnt know, that this phrases exists!! :)
From what I recall, no, but I'm not sure if they changed that in Rekordbox 7
Video presentation style is ..wow 👌🏾
Its all about adding a little pizzaz to the presentation!
Love your videos learned so much already
And that's the goal! Thanks for watching and I hope you learn more!
Using Cue Points is a good alternative. I use Cue Points too :)
Thanks so much! this vid is very helpful!
I’m so happy to hear it! Worked so hard on this video!
Hey Mate, do have list of the tracks that used cause they are pretty amazing
I believe some of these are on my Sellfy pages from other videos. But otherwise, I encourage you to use your favorite tracks when practicing with these techniques :)
3:18 ouch, this one hurt to watch. I was teaching a few friends and family how to DJ and they all did this lol. But i still bopped my head and acted like it was the best transition because well, they are family 😂 its also just generally a fun activity to do with ppl, so even if your not good dont get discouraged and just have fun!
It's a very VERY common beginner problem. I've actually had some people come and tell me this sounded better! You should've seen my face haha
nice work done bro
am also a deejay nut making an educative video like this one isn't easy so bigup to u
Thanks buddy! Believe me, there's a lot of set up and pre planning that goes into this haha. You'll get there too! Just gotta keep up the work 🥳
Sometimes, if I miss my cue, I go panic mode and you see me frantically trying to find either a 4 bar before change or just wait a whole another 8 bars to cue and then beat jump 8 to catch up.
It heavily depends on the situation but as I've been mixing more and more I miss my cues less and less.
That's called practice my friend! The more you get used to it, the more you understand all the nuances of your music!
Will please do a HIP-HOP Version of this video I love this
The rules actually apply to hip hop!
Oh! Did you analyze your tracks first? A lot of times, that solves the problem
@@djcarlo analyse? You mean synchronise? Sorry I dont know about that function
Wow, so much value info over here ❤
So happy you appreciate the info my dude! Love watching the world learn from these videos 🤩
Yes, thank you!
Oh I would suggest analyzing your songs or manually inputting the data one by one’ good luck!
@@djcarlo Lol that’s going to take ages🤣 thanks a lot though!
❤ very helpful video
I'm glad you think so! Which tip was most useful to you?
Only reuploads know that this is legend))
Hahaha, indeed! Glad to know you saw it yesterday!
@@djcarlo I am trying to watch all your videos )) good vibes and sometimes even for such an old dj as me ,I'm finding something new)))
dj Carlo please make a video on psytrance mixing tutorial
Sounds like a fun idea! I'll see what I can do!
Good stuff for EDM, house, techno...etc...Not so much with Hip hop
These techniques can be applied to hip hop too! Mixing in key, chorus to intro mixing, etc can all still apply!
For Hip Hop tracks it's quite different 😮
Music theory and the counting still applies !
When im home im gonna try too use it (just started djing)
Go for it! It'll change the way you see your music!
12:18 Stuble Carlo, subtle ahah
Sharp eye! Glad you caught that heheh
very very helpfull thanks !!
Really glad you think so! It's a much overlooked topic in DJing
Dj Carlo awesome stuff. But since I just started trying to DJ. This feels like a different language to me. Great stuff though. Keep up the great work
First master the proper way to count beats, then move on to figuring out the best places to mix!
@djcarlo ok thank u. I kinda got the beats thing a little. But yea I practice. On the weekends. I'm a truck driver. So on my Time off. I usually practice a little. But I can't afford. The dj music pools. So I get the songs from RUclips. But thanks for the videos. They help. Even if I don't understand everything
@@ozone377maybe this will help you out a little. With the app DJ PRO it’s possible to use it everywhere you go with your phone/ iPad etc. When having a break at work you can practice or prep songs easily. And sometimes i use RUclips to download a song but always convert it to mp4 quality. SoundCloud is also a good way to get free music. Quality isn’t the same when buying music . But for home use it will do the job. Hope this works for you! 👊🏻
lol i’ve transitioned from playing an instrument to djing so i learned basically all of this before bahahaha im also learning guitar on the side so wish me luck on that!!
It helps loads with DJing!
@@djcarlo yeah definitely!
