    I'd have put Mika Salo gifting the win to Eddie Irvine when he was filling in for injured Schumacher on this list. Would've been great to see Mika get a win and the result shows what could have been had he not been stuck with poor cars over the years. A podium was still good but he was better than Irvine on the day and the result could've reflected that.

    2002 Hungarian Grand Prix, where Schumacher had an insane amount of pace over Barrichello, but was told to stay behind. It is my favourite in this arena because near the end of the race Schumacher started falling behind by a rather large margin out of nowhere, making people think he suddenly had an issue with his car. And then he put the hammer down and proceeded to put in a lap over 2 seconds faster than anyone else in the whole race, showing the kind of pace and result he could have had if he hadn't been held back by team orders.

      Im glad "Karma" hit then back and the reason why Vettel/Red Bull won in 2010 was that they had not used teamorders in Brazil to let Webber take the win from Vettel, despite Webber having much better chance for the championship had they done so....
      However as the race turned out in Abu Dhabi, had Red Bull used team-orders in Brazil, Webber would have lost the championship to Alonso and Vettel could not have had a chance to win it either....so I was very glad that day that Ferrari lost the championship despite using team orders and Red Bull/Vettel one because they DIDNT use teamorders :D

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 5 лет назад +8

      gt362gamer Why the hell they would have screwed over Webber on purpose? At that point Red Bull had NO preference which driver would win the champioship….as I remember it, Webber was heavily struggling with the grip of his tyres, even brushing a wall, which why he was pitted so early. Ferrari in return decided to react on that, but forgot that left Vettel in much better position.
      Anyhow Red Bull had the advantage of going to the final race with BOTH of their drivers in championship fight...usually I hear people saying this is bad thing, cause team-mates eat away points from eachother, but at that time it proved to their advantage.

  • @reptongeek

    I disagree with the inclusion of the Belgium Grand Prix in 1998. Damon did send a message suggesting that he and his teammate should hold station but this was only after he had waited for instructions and didn't receive any. This he points out in his recent book. Furthermore he stated quite clearly in his radio message that any decision was up to Eddie Jordan. Considering that the conditions were so bad there had been eight retirements due to crashes by this point it seemed fair that the hold station order was given and to benefit Damon who had been the fastest driver in the team that weekend up to that point
    However due to the closeness of Jean Alesi in the Sauber the two Jordan's still had to race each other to the chequered flag driving so quickly that they lapped Trulli on the penultimate lap for a second time.
    One final point. Whatever Ralf's demeanour on the podium might have said, he did accept the result later and wrote a nice tribute to Damon in Autosport the following year after he retired

    • @gentj
      @gentj 5 лет назад +7

      More than that, it's often forgotten that Ralf was almost 20 seconds behind Damon until a safety car was thrown to mop up the Giancarlo Fisichella/Shinji Nakano accident at the Bus Stop. To say Ralf 'should' have won this race is disingenuous, given that he probably would not have been in a position for team orders otherwise.

    I would put the (still) highly debated 2008 Belgian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa was definitely the wrong man who was declared the winner of that Grand Prix. Not only was Massa nowhere near battling for the lead outright, but the race should have been about the exciting battle for victory between Hamilton and Raikkonen. Hamilton made a lunge round the outside of Raikkonen, had the door closed and took to the escape road and cut the chicane to avoid a collision. Despite the fact that he let Raikkonen back through, before passing him properly shortly after, Hamilton was given a 25 second penalty which demoted him to third. Many neutral fans cried foul, as Massa was battling Hamilton for the championship, and Ferrari had got away with no penalties for other situations earlier that season, indeed Raikkonen benefitted from going off track at turn one not once but twice in that one Grand Prix

      Kimi crashed out though, so it would have been ridiculous had he won, but the penalty for Hamilton that day was harsh. I agree that up until the crash at Blanchimont it was a great drive by Kimi though; him and Hamilton going either side of Rosberg was classic stuff on a slippery track.

    • @jsphblw
      @jsphblw 5 лет назад +13

      Revolver Ocelot - Kimi crashed so the penalty did not benefit the affected party . If they’d given him a 10 or 15 second penalty, he would have still beat the other 2. If they had given him a 20 second penalty, he would have still finished second. They gave him a 25 second penalty which is actually the same as a stop and go penalty at Spa. He passed Kimi by being close to him, not Massa. Giving him a 25 second penalty goes well beyond the bounds of fairness. Guess it all worked out because without that plenty, we wouldn’t have witnessed the greatest finish to a season.

    • @jsphblw
      @jsphblw 5 лет назад +9

      ATS599 - Actually, there was no rule back then as to what he was supposed to do other than give back the position. It was clarified afterwards that he needed to wait a corner before attacking. But your point regarding the penalty is fair enough. My only concern is that it was a 25 second penalty instead of 10, 15 or 20 second penalty. Bumping into drivers gets you a 10 second penalty. Against this backdrop, 25 seems extremely excessive.

Scoring balls up of monumental proportions. I met Fittipaldi decades later and he was still hot about it....remembered the day with absolute clarity.

He crashed in the last race in Adelaide so it’s not really close in the end even if you give him Suzuka. 1994 - the only reason Hill is close is because some extreme penalties that were handed to Schumacher for minor infractions. Don’t get me wrong, Schumacher cheated that day and I would have been very happy if Hill had been crowned champion but in the context of the whole season, Schumacher was the best driver.

      Schumacher should have been irradicated from the sport after that filthy move on Hill in Australia. I was watching live (as allways) and at that moment I could kill the cheater

      Gonzalvez Alvez - He crashed because he couldn’t see the car ahead of him. Piquet moved over to pass Brundle. Senna thought he’d moved for him and drove into the gap and Brundle. It wouldn’t have mattered what had happened in Japan. He was unsighted at that moment. How would having Suzuka awarded to him help him see better?
      On the Hamilton part, I don’t agree that Mercedes cheated. But it is hard to deny that Hamilton was a much better driver than Rosberg and would have won that championship if it wasn’t for mechanical issues during the year. He should be chasing his 7th championship right now if it hadn’t been for McLaren’s idiotic call in the 2007 Chinese GP and reliability issues in 2016.

    The one that makes sense is Alonso when he won because Renault cheated.

Schumacher subsequently had Barichello stand at the top of the podium and handed him the trophy. I believe Schumacher was fined for disrupting the seremony.
