John’s audiences at his concerts pester him to still sing Sadie all these years later. It is so funny when he protests. He tells them to “Nick off”. Love him.
John was 17 when he recorded Sadie.
He had been a Plumbers Apprentice up till 2 days before this was released. He gave up his apprenticeship. This song was Number 1 all over Aus. In My Room was the 'B' side to Sadie & was written by John. It should've been the single he released. You can already hear his pure ability at this young age. Much love from Australia 🇦🇺💕
If you want to see John at his most genuine humble person look for the video of him being presented the Australian of the year award in 1987 it is moving .
He gave such a lovely, moving speech
Oh my gosh, it's John who hates being called Johnny, lol. He had a real crappy manager in the beginning, who just wanted to promote him as the clean cut kid, singing songs for the oldies (that kind of thing was very popular at time though). Calling him Johnny, the suits, the cutsie songs, it was hard for him to break away from that, but you'll see all that in the film. Loved your reaction to this, you're the best. ❤
Sadie was John’s first hit. He was about 17/18. In my room is a song John wrote all those years ago. It was the B side for Sadie. He is a legend. He changed his name to John when he became a grown up contemporary singer and left the pop star behind.
No one calls him Johnny, he had a horrible manager named Darryl who didn’t know anything about managing or music. He chose what he wore and what he sang for 9 years until John fired him. John was taken to London at the same time Olivia took off but his manager was too drunk to go to meetings with studio’s.
Yes, I saw the advanced screening for Mother’s Day and I knew most of it but still got some surprises. It was much harder to hear it from John’s side or the people who were closest to him. I will buy it the day it is released on DVD. It is hard to watch, easy to watch, happy and sad but it made John or it let him find his voice so aptly named. I have never heard a movie theatre applaud at the end until this one, take tissues.
I know as a young teen it was not cool to like Sadie. Old ladies and kids still took it to number one in less than a week. Same with Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head, Underneath The Arches and One. I think only three of those went to number one. The song he sings after Sadie in this, In My Room, John wrote and from what I can get from things I have heard he wasn’t allowed to record it. America and England would only share the bad covers for him to choose. He really couldn’t get a break. John always wrote songs but that was taken away too. Until Burn For You.
He turned 18 the year Sadie hit number one. I know when John appeared I loved the Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Righteous Brothers, Procal Harem etc. Sadie didn’t fit so I didn’t love him at first but I did listen to him when my friends weren’t there. Not sure why I cared what they thought but I loved all music and probably way more songs from my parents and grandparents day. My youngest is adopted from Korea and she won a big singing contest. Singing one of John’s songs that I didn’t know was his until she told the audience on stage. It was Please Don’t Ask Me which was a solo but I love him singing it with Livvie.
I am not going to ruin anyones viewing of this movie. I just thank God for Jill, Glenn and Gaynor Wheatley but I did before I saw it.
John will sing Sadie or he did about twice in concert because people still love it. It is faster and shorter now and it is fun to see back then. He is only three and a half years older than I am. He has always felt like another brother and family. That is also who he is. Look for early interviews, you won’t believe some are John. I have found lots on here. I am happy you like Sadie because I have heard other reactors say if they heard that first they would never have listened to anything else he sang. Thank you.
John fought hard to shake off that teen idol clean cut cutsie Johhny image. It was so bad that when he tried to transition from teen idol to adult contemporary artist, no record label would touch him. The writer of his most famous song You're the Voice actually refused to let him record it. John went ahead and recorded it anyway and It was his manager who motgaged his own home to produce Whispering Jack Album ...which went on to become the highest ever selling album in Australia.
And with that John was finally recognised as the amazing talent that he is. We all support his need to be John and not Johnny. ❤❤❤
Saddie is a very polarising song and period in his career. So often we wait until your hooked before we request it.
I understand and i appreciate that but Bob that B side is great too
@CVTECK1 Yes it is. I love it alot don't because they find it a bit depressing and melancholy.
I have always loved "Sadie" ever since John first sang it and still love it ❤
Great reaction from you as always 😊😊
Sadie The Cleaning Lady was John’s then known as Johnny he isn’t big fan of his debut single . His recording company’s EMI house producer requested that Johnny to record it . John was only 18 . At that time it was a blessing for him Sadie was smash hit his first number 1 single . Sadie ended up being highest selling Australian domestic single of the 60’s & still remains John’s 3rd highest selling single after Age Of Reason & You’re The Voice .
John is little embarrassed about Sadie and teases his fans that he not going to sing it at his concerts ..
Sadie had also a negative haunting affect on John’s career as well by the industry not taking John seriously EMI made Johnny an ultra commercialised manufactured crossover novelty pop , pop and big band singer until 1975 when he drop by EMI after the hits started to dry up because he married 1973 and lost the eligible bachelor image . Johnny after 1975 was doing stage shows , sing whatever was the popular songs was at that time on variety television and doing the cabaret club circuit with really bad house bands just to try to stay in the public eye . But wasn’t being stimulated musically until he joined the Wheatley Organisation new management with Little River Band and Australian Crawls manager Glenn Wheatley that pulled him out of the slum 1980 got a band for John who dropped the Johnny of John for more mature and image . Graham Goble founding member of the Little River Band was a fan of John’s and wanted a new outlet for his songs that he wrote that in a too high of key for LRB’s singer Glenn Shorrock to sing so Graham wrote most of the tracks for John comeback album Uncovered that also featured John’s rearrangement of the Beatles classic Help which returned John to the charts first time in 6 years 2 years latter John was asked to joined LRB after Glenn Shorrock left the band .
John had 4 tough years with LRB John left the band in 1986 taking manager Glenn Wheatley and wiz keyboardist David Hirschfelder with him to make Whispering Jack the album broke all Australian records and made John a legend.
The second song In My Home is a Farnham original John first song that written that was published . John was trying to establish himself as a singer songwriter but EMI and his early management kept him to busy at that time for John to advance on his own songwriting.
Johnny Farnham was what he was known as and it does cover why he doesn't like it in the movie, but the long and the short of it was he was always knocked back as a singer after that hit in 1967 when he became the King of Pop. He was known for that hit and yet he personally didn't want to sing that song in the first place. Regardless when he wanted to do YOU'RE THE VOICE, the owner of the song didn't want him to record it because the only song he ever heard of with John was Sadie. So you can appreciate why he quickly changed his image by changing his name slightly.
We didn't leave it out, we enjoy watching your reactions as you deep dive down the Farnham rabbit hole. So much more for you to discover. I saw his documentary on Sunday. It was outstanding!! Much love from Australia 🇦🇺
John wrote In My Room when he was just 16. It was recorded and released as the B side of Sadie in 67 when he was 18.

John Farnham was a Teenage Superstar who won every talent quest he went in. A born singer/entertainer. Sensational once-in-a century talent.
You have 6 decades of John Farnham’s hit songs to catch up on!
John was around 18 years old when he released this.
You had to be inducted first 😂 we would never embarass our John and do him wrong! Amazing that you've resisted reacting to Angels live with Lisa Edwards (his long term backup singer) circa 2000. Cheers for the reaction, love your work.
How beautiful was our young John!
This was his first song and big hit. One of many. Baby John. He started out as Johnny but changed to John later.
Please check out the live performance at the 1994 ARIA awards of John singing 'You're The Reason Why'. John co-wrote the song about his baby son Robert. It is stunning. Richard Marx (Canadian singer/songwriter) accompanies on the piano. It always tugs at my heart-strings. Much love from Australia. 💕
Well, we all have to start somewhere. End result. The voice of all time and music genre ❤
This was part of a play I went to see when I was a girl he was just lovely he was even younger than I was at the time I was 23
I loved this Video so much but man the b side is great
@@CVTECK1 so good that a song that John wrote so many years ago has had such a great reaction from you.
Yes, he was forced to start his career when he was 16/17 years old as Johnny Farnham, but he didn’t ever like being called Johnny!
For a bit of trivia. The cleaner in the darker hat was 4 months pregnant with one of his back up singers in later concerts, Danielle Gahar when this was filmed. You must hear more of his younger work.
I was 12! Here in Melbourne. We all thought 'Johnny ' was gorgeous!!
Listen to Jimmy Barnes & Tina Turner at the AFL grand final doing Simply the Best live. There's also a studio version. There is also a John Farnham video of him singing Wind Beneath My Wings at a huge event. I think you'll love both of these.
Sadie was John Farnham's break out song. He was 17 years of age.
The second song was titled "In My Room"
It's interesting to see the dancers in the background during him singing "In My Room". Ross Coleman (the choreographer) and Patti McGrath who married Australian TV legend Bert Newton. I don't know who the dark haired lady was.
17 when he started his pop carrer and as he got older he wanted to be known as John to be taken seriously as an artist hates being called Johnny. Sadie was his first song. Yes 007 vibe definitely. John doesn't read anything about himself or watch any of his performances or interviews and want watch the new Documentary but his sons Rob x James did say perhaps in the future they would try and get him to watch it with them. You can only watch the documentary at the moment in Australia in cinemas then I think it will be on Australian TV then hopefully DVD for everyone outside of OZ at some point. 🇬🇧 Farnsey Fan great reaction thank you.
They were two separate songs and I had never heard the second one before. I wonder if it has been sung by him at a later stage in life. I would love to hear/see that
I love the second song too, never heard of it before. Great to hear it.
The b side of that was Amazing Gale
Aaaaw he's so young❤❤
I was 8 when I first heard this in 1970 and yes, he was Johnny Farnham. Been watching him ever since...friggin legend ❤❤❤
He still sang it at his concerts too, until recent events forced him off stage.
Australia's son.....no words... AWESOME ❤❤👍👍🇭🇲🇭🇲
You're watching a 'compilation', this is not a continuation of Sadie, the other video of Sadie is better...
This song was John's blessing and curse!
Agreed . His singing and music is really good
John was born 1949, so that makes him 18 in 1967; providing it is after the 1st of July.
The lady on the left in this clip is pregnant with his future backup singer Danielle Gaha
Dr kap has alot of unique stuff on John even commercials
John's boys said dad want watch it he doesn't watch anything
Thats because he's humble person and just glad he can make people happy
The announcer was saying about John being a plumber as he was apprentice plumber but gave singing ago
If you go.back to.either help.or voice with Melbourne sympathy orchestra you'll hear the crowd screaming something before he starts it Sadie their screaming for
He said in interview that he didn't hate the song as it got him.his start
But he likes to stir up the audience by not singing it and when he does after they pester him.he calls them a pack of bastards even his band and backing singing
Get stuck into sometimes to sing it he always sings it in the show somewhere from memory I could be wrong
Also he doesn't like being called johnny I think it reminds him of this time
He prefers John or as public named him.farnsey same Jimmy know as barnsey
So when they sing together it farnsey and barnsey
Cheers mate
That was hilarious - you were hilarious - Johnny was hilarious. I’d never seen this clip before; we didn’t receive commercial television back then where we lived but Mum listened to commercial radio and she loved this and I had to listen to it. It was a celebration of working class women I guess; in lieu of decent wages. I imagined as a 7 yr old that this would be my life as I did most of the chores, meanwhile Johnny had no control over his career. I think things are better for artists now but I’m not sure.
I love you man, thankyou for loving john farnham, he is a legend, thankyou for broadening his audience and letting a whole new generation hear his sound, ♥️
John blows me away with every song but also how kind he is and funny as well. Love Love HIM. thank you Suzanne
@@CVTECK1 thankyou Cvteck1, I didn't know his music had reached so far, until I viewed your video, thankyou again
I'm so happy that after all these years you can appreciate Johns first real song. I always liked in my room much more than sadie. 😊
His music rocks!!!! I was gonna call my cat sadie and was on the fence. Heard that and my cat is sadie
He's got three octaves to play with.
It took him years to loose the Johnny. John was born late 1948 and the song was a one off being different to any thing else around.
We were hit hard by the 60s vibe 😂
So good Garry
John was about 18 when he released this. You have got to realise that this song, along with some other decisions made for him by his first, stupid manager, cost John his career. Glen Wheatley came along and thankfully re-established his career in the 80’s. Part of his rebirth was dropping the name ‘Johnny’ to John. You REALLY need to try to get hold of a copy of his movie so you can understand why you would now not call him Johnny.
Check out ‘I can do anything’.
Amazing voice and beautiful harmonies.
John was born in 1949. He was 18 here.
Haha, baby Johnny! I think he was 17 here but Kappy will know!! Btw she has some great young john interviews on here channel.
For me, this has always been a very sad song - it reminded me, and still does, of all those millions of women working at jobs that are causing them great harm for little pay, jus to try and provide for their families.
RThere's a line in a poem that sums it up that goes something like "houses full of people living lives of quiet desperation." it almost makes me weep.
If you wanted a career back then, you sang what you were told to sing!!!!
No its A song he wrote .In my room.
His old moniker as Johnny was what he desperately tried to get away from as it was what was holding back his musical career. It was seemingly childish and made everyone see him as a mere child trying to sing in the big boy world and they couldn't take him seriously.
So he became John and only John lol.
There was and still is a time where only children are called Johnny, Bobby, Ricky and many others.
However as you know it is childish in itself to think that way as many adults love to be called those names.
But in show business, one must take on an adult sounding name to make it anywhere and be taken seriously by the masses.
Just a few other early ones that are so good are Brridge over trouble water and he does in 1972 For once in my life .there so good .love your reviews.
John was born in 1949
Yes 007 soooo good 👍
This song follows him around like a bad smell to this day. 😅
Hey man, I think we've found the new 007. Wow, those moves...someone ring somebody...somewhere...In My Room, the new 007 movie starring CVTECH1, soundtrack by Johnny Farnham.
17 here I think
Don’t remember the second one but is was good.
love your reactions to john- thought you might enjoy looking up on you tube a 4 part clip of john- Not for you to react to just for your pleasure- Im sure you will enjoy

I can't recall ever hearing John singing that second song, so unfortunately I can't tell you the name of it; but is definitely not part of Sadie.
This was the B side of Sadie.
I think it's because it's one of his first one's, some people think it's cringe worthy, but he had to start, somewhere.
In that era it was liked .
I personally prefer John's More epic performances with a lot more passion and grit.
Who cares I just love the man❤ and his ability to tell the story of the song , with his very magnificent voice.
The rest is history. ❤️ XOXO
👍👍👍
His sons said he probably won't watch it he is very humble he doesn't watch his performances.
You should do Sadie from the classic Jack dvd with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Yep, you heard me! Great reaction as always. Looking through a tear is another good track. Documentary is a must see. It was incredible!

He prefers John it took a long time for him to stop being called Johnny.
Please don’t call him Johnny!! He hated being call Johnny he detested it.. That was his manager doing at the time. He really had a hard time going from Johnny to John people just wouldn’t let go of the Johnny etc. John is his name and that’s what he wanted to use in the first place. He was 17 when he recorded Sadie. Love Sadie he makes out that he hates it but truly he loves to sing it.. and we love it when he does.. John won’t be watching it he son said that he’s dad has never watched any of his concerts, interviews etc etc he just doesn’t like watching himself. But Gaynor Wheatley ( wife of Glenn Wheatley) said she is going to make him watch it he needs to watch it.. so many people have seen the documentary movie over last weekend with
premiere and special screening because of Mother’s Day and have said it’s great but take your tissues.. 🧐😊🇦🇺
In my room there is heartache & shadows, this should be in a godfather movie
