    John and Molly were good mates. They were comfortable enough with each other that they could joke around and not take offence. This is one of my favourite videos of all time- John fanboy crushing on Tom. They did a tour together after this.

    I loved when John sang with his hero like that. John was excited and Tom was in awe too.

    John definitely didn't call Molly that, he said "crying again, ya p*****" as an insult to himself in the clip they were watching of him getting emotional about getting an award - that's why he said "I was talking to the screen" after Molly whacked him with the record. Anyway, it was of its time that's for sure! I love this clip and I'm so glad you got to see it, it's such a treat for fans!! It also highlights how different they are as singers even though they're kinda in the same box so I found that interesting.

    I remember watching this when it aired.
    The entire country stopped to watch Hey, Hey It's Saturday every week. It's one of them most iconic shows of all time. And precisely because of moments like this.

    He wasn’t referring to Molly as a poof he was calling himself one. when they are showing that clip of John when was younger and they were calling him a pretty boy. 😊

    He was actually calling himself a P**f.....taking The piss out of himself for being a pretty boy back in those early days in thag film clip...by the by Molly and John have been really good mates since John was 18ish. They spent a lot of time together and even shared rooms when touring. ❤

    Thank you for your review, Mike. This impromptu performance spawned an entire concert tour. Tom performed with his band, then John with his and then both of them finished it off together. It was almost like watching a competition of who was better - Tom’s mini concert or John’s - and it was a real privilege to be in the audience to witness two of the greatest performers and singers ever to step out on a stage!! One of the highlights was the both of them singing AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way to the Top if you want to Rock and Roll”, which closed the show. I’m not sure if you have seen this but, if not, do yourself a favour, as Molly Meldrum would say. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺.

    So much talent right there, can't imagine too many of today's stars are willing or capable to do such an off the cuff performance.

    Yes it was impromptu and wow how amazing they both were! 🌞💥 Hey, Hey it's Saturday was where all the musicians went to promote their music, but some were epic and all were allowed to shine and show their personalities! We were so lucky to have this show! 👍 I recommend the live cast of Jesus Christ Superstar video if you can find it - incl John Farnham, Kate Cebrano, Jon Stevens! 😃

    Yeah, that word was thrown around very casually back then and no one thought twice about it, if it was said jokingly. I'm sure even John would cringe a bit seeing that now, he didn't actually say it to Molly, he was talking to himself in the photo they showed, he said so after Molly swatted him, they are and always were very good friends. Loved this flashback, thanks Mike. ❤

    That was definitely impromptu. Hey Hey was that kind of a show. You never knew who might show up and what might happen each week. You can see here that John was absolutely blown away when Tom started to sing. He really had to pull himself together to sing with Tom. They actually toured together after this.

    My mistake about the confusion of who called each other a poof. To be perfectly honest, I was so wrapped up in that performance that they did at the end, that I honestly got my words twisted. And i'm well aware it was all in good fun 😅

    • @Saan42
      @Saan42 Год назад +3

      It wasn't meant badly - I was around in Australia in the 80s and I know that this was fairly normal for the time and in this case no malice was intended - nonetheless it's still a slur, and doesn't go down very well in 2023, for me anyway.
      May be an unpopular opinion, but I'd kind of prefer if the uploader of the clip had just cut it out, because it's honestly a bit jarring, doesn't really add anything worthwhile, and makes me cringe a bit, which is the opposite of how I want to feel when watching John! I don't imagine he'd look back on it with particular pride either, lol.

    John Farnham on "The Panel" singing acoustic at the desk , bringing in the show members to contribute to the song too is great. Jane Kennedy really pushed to be at the desk that night because she loves John, so rather than her normal role of producer she pushed her husband Rob aside.

    Great reaction. I love your facial expressions when you are watching John. I got just as much of a kick out of that as I did out of watching John and Tom and the rest of the crew. However, John was calling himself a poofter as a youngster because of his hair on the video. He really does not like seeing himself on screen, so he plays the joker and always puts himself down.

    As an LGBTQIA+ Aussie I have to say the man on the left Music journalist and producer Ian Molly Meldrum hes wearing the Cowboy hat and he interviews the singers. He was a well loved and known Gay man in Australia. I would like to apologise to anyone who is hurt by the P word used in this video clip. The Aussie humour was not politically correct or respectful in those days the 90s. It was also disrespectful to women and people of colour in all media across Australia in the 1990s. Today Australia has matured and changed for the better and I hope it continues to grow in a more respectful and positive direction for all Aussies.
