I am 61 years old and I have loved this man since I was 14. Brilliant musician, hilarious 'bad guy' and a wonderfully witty and intelligent radio host.
I'm 52 and completely agree! Love Skthooks, loved Red Faces and Love Red!!!!
Red was a member of the band Skyhooks, he was also a member of the show band with Peter and Wilbur Wild.
I am 63 and totally agree.
I didn't know he was (is?) a radio host.
Red Rocks
For context: the gentlemen watering and feathering Red Symons in the clip are Australian music legends (especially in that era) Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham. Aussies affectionately call them “Barnesy” and “Farnsey” respectively. This is part of the setup for the prank on Red, because immediately before that, John says something along the lines of “Jimmy can be Barnesy, I’ll be Farnsey, and you can be Reddy. You ready?”
Nary a month would pass without Farnsy being on it at LEAST once! Half the time, what for? Just 'cause, Farnsy!
That was done on behalf of all the contestants that Red has insulted over the years.
Red is not only a great muso, comedian and radio personality but holds a Bachelor of Science degree in pure mathematics and computer science
my fave Red moment came when he was on Celebrity Big Brother. Red found one of the hidden doors, opened it and snuck through and left the show. none of the housemates saw him go. brilliant.
People went on Red Faces with the intention of getting the lowest score from Red. It's such an Aussie thing to be proud of
The fact that you know that 6 was a high score from Red just warms my heart lol
And there's my childhood! Lolz 😂😂 many many good Saturday nights watching that as a kid.
Man when I was younger everyone watched Hey Hey, couple of Aussie legends feathering Red , Jimmy and John.
Back in the 80s Hey Hey was THE show to watch on Saturday nights for many years, and Red Faces was iconic, as was Red and his brutal take downs. Truly a family event on weekends for my family at least. We all waited with anticipation as to how quick he would gong the act. Great memories.
I still remember the mid-80's when Hey Hey was on on a Saturday mornings! Then they changed it to Saturday nights around 1987 (?) for more mature fun.....then up against Young Talent Time, a HUGE fight would then break out in the family as to what we were watching until the VCR solved all that!
I loved pluka duck the best. Pluka the things he did 😂 that segment was always funny with the frozen chooks. 😜
Chook lotto with Jackie!
Red Symons is possibly the face of 70's glam rock in Australia. He was in a band called Skyhooks if you want to check that out. They had a few hits like "Livin in the 70's", "Horror Movie", "Ego" and "Women in Uniform". It was before my time but sits pretty well with most people's collective understanding of popular culture, music and our film/ movie industry around that time. Things got pretty wild. There is a documentary out called "Not quite Hollywood" that describes how crazy our movie industry was during this time - it was pretty influential on aspiring film makers overseas and produced films like Mad Max. Since then, Aussie culture has had to kind of mellow out a bit to fit with modern ideals and norms.
You have to be pretty happy with life when you get wet feathered on prime time TV by John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes! How can it possibly get any better than that?
It's not feathers, it's shredded up paper ,but pure white ,like confetti.
Please tell me you’ve seen him all dressed up playing bass guitar for Skyhooks 😅
Hahaha I don't think Ryan even knows who the skyhooks are?!
@@AnaDizzy Well he needs to...lol
And fyi red only played guitar not bass although I’m sure he played a few instruments
This show was on Saturday night, we would watch, drink and than go out partying. Always still laughing because of Hey Hey. Different times, hey. 🇦🇺
This a Ryan is also a good explanation as to many Aussies sense of humour - the nastier the burn (to close friends and family) the more funny it is, but remember- you got to be able to take it as good as you give it!
My nickname as a teen from my older brother was "Acid tongue" - I'd grown up on Hey, Hey, Looney Tunes and The Muppets, honestly what did he expect???
WOOF! That pouring in to the dress joke was wickedly mean af!
I LOVED IT!
I'm going to remember to use it at some point - burn it all down! 😂😂😂
Red has a very very high i.q.( MENSA level)....great job-again
To be pedantic😉 - it's IQ, so sorry you fail.
Red's Nanna was in a Skit & he asked how she escaped the Nursing Home :) LOL
Google say - Hey Hey It's Saturday was a long-running variety television program on Australian television. It initially ran for 28 years.
No. of episodes - 500+.
I remember when it was originally on, on a Saturday morning as mainly a kids show before it went to Saturday Night.
That's DA BEST!!! And thanks... but the weather's absolutely SHIT here in Victoria!!!! We're coming into winter, and it's been raining, cold and friggin miserable! But Red makes it all better 😉
lol I'm in Ballarat and its freezing.
The best show Australia ever had. Pity it wouldn't work these days with all the ^&*^* in the world who don't understand what comedy is.
Totally agree with you. It started with political correctness and then went sadly woke where nobody can handle a joke anymore. I loved hey hey and that was comedy gold back in the day. Dickie knee was my fav😂
Agros Cartoon Connection was also an absolute must watch
I used to watch this while getting ready to go out on a Saturday night 🎉😂
Yep, that was the thing to do.
@@birreboi And of course a couple of beers made it so much better! 🍺😉
@@karenr1688 Yes some beers and back in those days, maybe some other stuff 😉
@@birreboi Hahaha 😉
Oh how I miss this show!
Good old Red! 😂
For those that don’t know Red has a very high IQ, he reached the million dollar question on who wants to be a millionaire
Red just missed the Million $ question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire Celebrity episode. He's actual not only a fantastic musician and Comedian, he's highly educated.
All part of his acting abilities and talent. Red Symons has been said as being the opposite in real life, then the Hey Hey its Saturday grouch for Red Faces. Redmond has been around for oved 50 years, he started out as a mathematics high school teacher. Very intelligent man
Love this growing up, Dickey knee was my fav
Red had absolutely no filters, He along with Wilbur Wild and Shirley Straun, may he rest in piece, we’re in a band called Skyhooks and they were very good.❤️🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸
Classic Hey Hey it’s Saturday.
The weather is shit in Melbourne, nearly winter and I don't think it's gonna be a good one 🥶🤣 Red is a legend and all the so called the 'mean' judges on talent shows, need to check him out for how it's done 😂😂😂❤
0:52 Don't forget he was a rock star before he got on TV. He doesn't need to hold back.
Hey Hey, it's Saturday started on Saturday mornings at 8am in 1971. Back then it was mostly a kids show but then in the mid 70s decided to move down to a 8:30pm timeslot and became more mature in it's approach. Daryl Summers and Ossie Ostrich hosted a cartoon show from the mid 70s from 4pm to 5pm weekdays to replace the missing cartoons that were shown in the 8am timeslot. Then from memory, I think it changed to 6:30pm to 8:30pm during the early 80s and stayed in that timeslot for the remainder of it's life. Most people liked this as it meant that folk could have it on the tv while getting ready to go out to nightclubs etc.
....and then there were the family arguments between Hey Hey and Young Talent Time on channel 10 at the same time, haha!
Loved Red Symonds and Plucka Duck...❤😂
Ryan - did you know Red Symons used to be a guitarist in a very popular group in the 70's - Skyhooks.
Redmond Symons in real life was a delightful generous man, very very different from his persona on Hey Hey. He did have some great one liners though, some that simply couldn't be broadcast today.
Love Red, he always made me laugh on Hey Hey, but loved Skyhooks ❤
4:35 has gotta be the best burn I have ever heard.
Gotta love red. HHiS is my childhood , right up to my 30s when they axed the show lol legendary
Loved Red growing up.
4:43 poured into that dress😅😅😅
Hey Hey its Saturday night watched it religiously and Red Simons is still around originaly in a rock band called Sky Hooks
I miss your Hey Hey It’s Saturday reviews too!!!
I’m glad you found that compilation, it was hilarious!!! 👍
He was always given free rein on that show... lol
That was great- thanks
'Red' walked into a shop I was working in and innocently asked 'are you who I think you are?' and he answered me with ' are you who you think you are'.
Lol ,red an icon such a funny man,the show was awesome😂😅
I'm guessing most contestants went on just so they could be 'insulted' by the funny, badass one!
His, and the shows humour was epic.
awesome vid love from australia
The only thing better than 'Hey, Hey' is 'The Best of Hey, Hey' (IYKYK) .School camps of the 90's always consisted of Red Faces nights doing stupid skits and whatnot and usually being heroes of the school ground the next week!
We Australian's know how it out. 😂
Hey Ryan. Few things about Red. He started in a band called Skyhooks in the 70's playing guitar and dressing up like an idiot. (Fave Aussie band) Then he started on Red Faces on Hey hey after he left Skyhooks. It's HIM only that makes or breaks the people on Red Faces. He scores so his fave act wins, thus the minus 4. Making sure the other act won. I have heaps about Skyhooks 😂
Including the songs that were banned from the redio back then. All of them dressed up like in circus.
Here's a link to a famous song Horror movie, from the 70'a with Red.

Munchie Munchie Twisties 😂😂
My kids would love it
Note that was music legend John Farnham who poured the water over him, with Jimmy Barnes with the feathers.
Brought back memories when tv shows like Hey Hey were fun
Need to get yourselves down under mad life you won't regret it for at all.cheers down under.❤
That's hilarious, he's in a room with a baby crib and producing a youtube video. I like it. No shame👍
Skyhooks!!!
Don't know why but I love Jukebox in Siberia
Red was on hey hey from 1980-1999 plus the revivals 2009/2010
Lovin the Vid’s Mate keep them coming.
You sooooo need to watch some Plucka Duck segments!!! I'm sure there's a best of or a compilation on YT
Red was a true SAVAGE... lol
I’m glad you found something from hey hey
Aussie cartoon for you to check out Ryan, now that you unintentionally mentioned it: Lil Elvis Jones And The Truckstoppers. Because nothing screams "Australia" like a cartoon to do with Elvis.
the first real live band Gig was SkyHooks Red was the guitarist
Ahh the good old days
im livin in the 70's ✌️💜🙏🍻
that i went to i forgot that bit haha
I grew up pretty much from the 80’s watching this show it was the best and clean jokes good humour and fun and I do miss it there is so much rubbish on tv now I don’t watch it
Red was a savage , hahaha
I miss hey hey its Saturday comedy gold
I’ve missed Red Faces!
red simmons was in the band skyhooks check out im living in the 70's
Some people just went onto Red Faces with the intention of getting insulted by Red. Unfortunately, this type of show would not be allowed on tv today.
That was awesome. The wit so dry
Red was brilliant and a bit like Barry Huphries we will never see their like again as the world takes itself far too series today !
I miss this show and the old Disney.
Ryan people would go on Red Faces just to be insulted by Red lol 🤣
also the guatarist for the band skyhooks, RIP red and shirley
Red is still with us.
Pay back ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Is where Paul Hogan played the shovels find that
You have to check out Red in the skyhooks music clip (Horror Movie)😎😎
have you listened to "i'm living in the 70's" and seen him playing guitar yet.
You need to watch him sing Smut with the band he was in....
Happy Aro 😊
Wonder if you seen the classic skit of "the front fell off"
Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay owes Red Simmons royalties, for acting like him 😉🤣
acting like him without the brains, personality & charm IMO
you missed the best part of the joke... the water and feathers were jimmy barnes and john fanrham. all three are brilliant musicians.. Red was the sarcastic one of the group
Was a great show. Wouldn't last today, those jokes.
6:17 That's what she said.
Channel 2 was the public broadcaster…
I do remember him once giving someone an 8, I forget what for though.
It's more funny with the more years that goes by.
Loved the baby clip. Did you just borrow it from props. Be careful, cute babies can upstage you.
OMG. I can’t believe you know this stuff! I’m 50, and so many of our youth don’t know about this stuff!
Is your brother single???? Does he like older women 🤣
Was that John Farnham who poured water on Red?
Yep it was, and Barnsey tipping the bucket of white confetti on top of reds head and farnham grabbing some and throwing it in reds face.👋💕🇦🇺
The tv show the Best and worst of red faces is the best ones to watch, all the best acts in one episode.
from memory the feathers and water where if he went too far....
It's not feathers but confetti.
Yeah i can say I miss Hey Hey and Red
Red was so funny -
I miss hey hey bring it back bugger the whoke minority it was great family entertainment
Please practice your lines for your next video appearance, I now have a severe twitch - it's a "4"! 😍😄🤗🤨 (He's a genius!) 👍
That last one was two of Australian music ledgens and they tar and feathered him for all the contestant's he was cruel to
That was John Farnham and Jimmy barnes
The show went for around 20 yrs possibly longer in prime time
It was the political correctness that ended it
Watch skyhooks
Skyhooks video Horror Movie
