Im not for or against gun control, i think we should all be allowed guns if we are capable, just like any dangerous tool, they all require licenses, and in Aus its made clear its not considered a weapon but a tool like a hammer. One thing though is the lack of gun control has contributed to is a community who are willing to step outside and help a neighbour theyve never met because thats how you behave, dont care who ya are or where ya from, you watch your neighbours backs and they watch yours and were all gonna be eets

Never got interviewed for it, but I have a fairly decent tale in that vein. late afternoon, home from work, had a shower, cracked a beer, taking pot-shots with my bow in the backyard. Its a much more fun workout than weights. Im halfway through my second beer, and there's a bunch of shouting across the street. I stick my head out the front door, and there's a tussle at my neighbours front door. I know my neighbour but this other guy is kinda wrestling with him. I shout out "OI CUNT!", still holding a notched (but not drawn) bow and arrow, wearing a dressing gown and boxer shorts. the guy looks over his shoulder to see someone crossing the street with a bow shouting at him, and drops whatever and takes off down the street. I let off an arrow after him at about half power and off aim, so it went way wide. but I have never seen a human accelerate like he did at the sound of that twang.
I picked up my arrow and went and spoke to my neighbour. apparently he was trying to sell a phone on marketplace or something and the guy pulled a knife on him (which he still had) at his front door. he reported it to the cops, but said something along the lines of "I wont mention that to the cops, but that was badass" No wukkas mate.

One theory about Australian mateship and community spirit, is that British convicts formed the basis of European settlement in Australia whereas in the US, Puritan Christians had that role. IMO, we in Australia were lucky to have the convicts, as for the US, well? not so lucky.

    • @fionamcwilliam8703
      @fionamcwilliam8703 7 месяцев назад +2

Also a lot of second third etc sons of the nobility migrated to the US taking with them an "I'm better than you" attitude that looks down on those who they don't consider to be of the same social standing and therefore aren't prepared to help. Read My Dear Hamilton for background on the American attitude.
In Oz we not only got convicts but also the difficult soldiers. Read the story of John Macarthur, a soldier, who was a horrible man. It was his wife who made their farm a success not him!!
When Governor Macquarie was in charge he gave the convicts who had finished their sentences the ability to live as normal people in society. So an ex-convict could end up being at the top ofthe tree. Because our ancestors were able to forget their past and because we constantly face weather extremes here we've all got to stick together to survive or we'll die. And it means we'll all help folk out.

Yeah, standard Aussie thing, most blokes I know sleep in their jocks, just in case something happens in the middle of the night. You can take on anything in your jocks, but naked............... running around with unstowed tackle, no one wants to see that shit.........
I love the way Karl reckons the blokes a legend for the cameras, but in real life he doesn't stray from his "manicured circle". If he met this bloke in the street, he'd recoil in horror/couldn't wait to get away. Like all the yuppies who see "Crocodile Dundee" and reckon they are "just like that" but live in an apartment in the city.
I have seen/know people who have walked in on robberies, or random idiots.
Bloke at a servo went to pay for petrol. Guy in there at the til with a knife. This bloke started throwing tins of soup at him. After half a dozen rapid fire "Campbells Stockpot Veggie" cans, the yob dropped the knife and gave up.
Bloke I know (ex military) heard a noise in his garage. Three yobs. His wife and kids upstairs, so he wants to demobilise them ASAP. Knocked one out, broke second ones leg, broke last guys fingers. HE ends up in court. Judge lets HIM off, he stays for these guys with their "break and enter" charges. Judge says "This is the umteenth time you have been before me/maybe THIS will make you think twice... " In other words, the judge acknowledges that these blokes are serial offenders, and the courts useless "penalties" do nothing, maybe this will.
Sailors always going into Maccas/burger joint after a night on the turps. We walked into a Maccas at about 2 am, (somewhere in QLD I think, on the way back to the ship) just before closing and two terrified girls on the front counter. We had a look around, and 3 teenagers ransacking the joint, throwing everything not nailed down (straws/napkins/etc etc) everywhere, just being arseholes. My mate is HUGE, his upper thighs bigger than my body. We just look at them. First one runs up and is in my mates face, says "What are YOU lookin at?????"
My mate grabs him and picks him up by the neck and slams him against the wall.................... guys feet barely on the ground, choking and gagging. The other two look to help him, look at me, I just shake my head......... they back off. I am no knuckler, but he could sort them out on his own, and they know it.................... My mate says to the girl............................................................" Two big Macs, large chips, and a coke.........." (and then asks what I want) all while this guy is gagging for breath. He has to drop the guy to get his wallet out, and he throws him on the ground. He says "Pick it all up................" They do. Then they slink out.
    Classic.
Aussies don't like people being dicks to people just doing their job.

Because we live without a gun culture we tend to do brave/ nutty things like Nixie did. Several men once tackled someone with a knife and held him down till the police came.
During Hurricane Katrina at the big stadium where thousands were sheltering, the Aussies and Kiwis (Those from NZ) got together. They didn't know each other but the guys protected the girls as well as they could. The guys took the outside of the group with the girls inside. - Just doing what we do to help each other in difficult situations. We get together with those from New Zealand because of the fighting we did alongside each other in WWI and so the tradition of the ANZACS is carried on in whatever sphere we find ourselves in.

Our coffee cups are small because we don't add a whole lot of crap to our coffee. We don't need massive cups to hold something that is mostly water and sugar syrup.

In Australia, not only is the coffee in 7-Eleven good coffee but it is better than the coffee in cafes and restaurants because you can make it yourself.
You can regulate how much coffee water and milk you want
    And it is hot
Most coffee machines in most cafes and restaurants make an awful lot of noise but they don't end up making a cup of coffee that is hot
And they are more expensive as well.
A coffee in 7-Eleven costs $1.50 if you bring your own cup.
I start my day by having two cups of coffee at 7-Eleven every morning and it is the best part of my day.
Most of the 7-Elevens in Melbourne have people from India working in them and they are beautiful people.

Mind you... the way he threw that gun on the ground, if it had gone off - a bullet might have gone anywhere! It might then have been Nick who killed someone!!!
I guess Nick now get's a Bottomless Cup - for Life - from this establishment?
{ Although... if that was Nick BEFORE his morning hit of Caffiene...} 😵‍💫
