Hard to believe Eric Bana went onto become a mega star and great actor after such a humble start
Many Hollywood actors started off in sketch comedy shows, so very typical really.
Yes this is pretty big and well known in Australia at the time. Probably similar to Americans who started on SNL cast.
Indeed, whood'a thought? But if you saw "Chopper" he was superb
@@lennytheleopard yeah "Chopper" was an awesome movie, he's a great actor👍🏻👍🏻
It's all down to The Castle.
Eric Banadinović, AM (born 9 August 1968), known professionally as Eric Bana (/ˈbænə/), is an Australian actor and comedian. He began his career in the sketch comedy series Full Frontal before gaining notice in the comedy drama The Castle (1997). He achieved further critical recognition for starring in the biographical crime film Chopper (2000). After a decade of roles in Australian TV shows and films, Bana gained Hollywood's attention for his performance in the war film Black Hawk Down (2001), and as the title character in Hulk (2003). He played Hector in the war epic Troy (2004), and took a leading role in Steven Spielberg's historical thriller Munich (2005). In 2009, he played the villain Nero in the science fiction Star Trek, which was a critical and commercial success. Bana continued to work steadily in the 2010s, portraying Lieutenant commander Erik S. Kristensen in Lone Survivor (2013), and playing police sergeant Ralph Sarchie in the horror Deliver Us from Evil (2014). In 2018, Bana played the title role in a true crime miniseries, Dirty John. In 2020, he returned to Australia to star in outback thriller The Dry. Peace out.
Also was in "Funny People" with Adam Sandler.
I was in the dry I was a background extra
Full Frontal came after Fast Forward. Check that one out.. late 80’s to early 90’s.. some of the greatest Aussie comedy gold
Have a look at the Comedy Company. Kylie Mole, Con the Fruiterer, Uncle Arthur. Classic Aussie humour.
Uncle Arthur ftw!!!!
Houla, Roula, doula, Soula, Toula and Agape Damn I miss that
@@aussiemiss1442 I’d forgotten about that! Brilliant 😂
@@zombiemeg dolly did it !
🤣🤣 Classic! Eric Banner lived next 2 doors away from my grandparents just across the road from my Aunty. I practically grew up on that street. He was a really nice guy, always walking his dog and stopping for a chat. Just happy to chill out.
He's always been a cool funny Melbourne guy. 😎
When McDonalds first came to Australia most of the burgers were pre-made with pickles. However, many people didn't like them so they would be taken off the burger and thrown them onto the ceiling.
They still have the pickles in them....especially the Big Macs
This is one of the big differences between Australia and the US. Years ago I was in America and I was talking to a local, asking why did Maccas put pickles in their burgers because hardly anyone liked the pickles. My friend said "If you don't like pickles just ask them not to put pickles in your burger." I said, "What? You can do that?" She smiled and looked at me as if to say 'what planet are you from?' On the same trip I was at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and went into a chicken place like KFC and ordered some pieces of fried chicken. The guy behind the counter asked me if I wanted light or dark meat. Huh? Then I realised I was allowed to ask for which type of chicken pieces I wanted.
@slingshot3345 But it was fun! Couldn't do it now as the missus would back hand me!
@@DanDownunda8888 you've always been able to ask for no pickles here too, some people did it to get a freshly made burger, cause that's how they'd do it, you'd have to wait longer while they made a fresh burger with no pickles, they didn't just take the pickle off, so most people never bothered. You also used to be able to select your pieces at kfc, but everyone asked for breasts & it reached the point where if you didn't ask for breasts, you go no breasts & only the tiny, low meat pieces in mixed buckets, so they stopped allowing piece requests
@@mehere8038 Ok, thanks for that. I haven't bought Maccas or KFC for 20 years or more and I was just wondering.
The Paul Hogan show (1973 to 1984) is worth reacting to, he is very funny as you know from Crocodile Dundee.
He plays different characters like "Leo Wanker the stuntman" , "George Fungus the journalist", "Super Dag the ocker superhero" , Arthur Dunger the drunk bum" etc
The actress playing the female host “Nicky Buckley” was a close friend of mine from primary (grade) school, we lived near each other back then. Blew me away to see her featured on this show, after so many years… thanks Ryan for the flashback and love your content, you’re awesome 😎
Edit: She has gone on to be a successful director and received an Emmy nomination for The Handmaid’s Tale in 2019
You got her number?😜😎😂
@@dangermouse3619 😂 that’s classified info 🤐😜
Dana something. She had a short film at Tropfest one year that was really good. I'm not surprised she has gone on to a nice directing career.
She was very pretty and usually played attractive women roles.
I always noticed her and she was really good on the show.
That's so awesome to hear.
Eric Bana has made a lot of movies - Black Hawk Down - Troy - Hulk - Munich - The Other Boleyn Girl - Funny People - Closed Circuit just to name some. He appeared in a low budget Australian movie called The Castle released in 1997. The movie was made in 11 days at a cost of A$750,000, and made A$10,326,428. It is an iconic Australian movie, which you will pick up more Aussie slang and humour from this movie.
You forgot CHOPPA
I love the castle
Tellem he's dreamin
You definitely need to watch The Castle!!!
Ahhhhh, the serenity......
*'The Castle' and 'Chopper'.*
2 of the most iconic Australian movies with Eric Bana.
Yeah both are gold!
"Neville, I heard that you are going to give me some cash".

Hey Ryan 😃 Slab of beer = 24 cans or bottles of beer in the shape of a rectangle. Slab of chocolate, slab of marble, slab of bacon etc.
As others have said, Poida was an iconic bogan. Made it big in several Hollywood films & has seemingly come back to Australia to act in some homegrown films. Is a huge AFL St Kilda fan. He has been honoured by receiving an AM (Order of Australia) for his services to drama in 2019.
Gave a moving Speech when Warney died, he was a Sainter as well.
Hard to imagine what a great actor he is. He was awesome in Troy with Brad Pitt he has had many great parts in movies so far. Eric is such a talent!
If you stuck for more aussie comedyfor Saturday maybe you should check out The Comedy Company always cracked me up.
It's fantastic to see you watching and enjoying these old TV shows. This is the part of Aussie culture that so many miss, but was such a big part of everyday life.
Missin' the '90s 🪄
Am starting to enjoy my stay here in Australia
Yes Eric Bana is a terrific story of an Aussie bloke that had a go and made it work. Ryan, the move "Chopper" is worth every second of your time to watch.
lol u def need to react to more "POIDA" (Eric Bana) from Full Frontal .... just search POIDA
Nutbush is a real dance made up in Australia to go with the song Nutbush City Limits. We used to do it everyday at my primary school for fit and physical
Luckily my Primary School days were finished by the time that was a thing. We had to do the Hitchhiker dance instead.
I remember in primary school we had to do line dancing once. This woman stood on some desks to demonstrate lmao. I couldn't get into it. Line dancing in Australia haha.
really? Nutbush is Aussie? I never knew that!
@@mehere8038 Tina Turner had no idea it had an official dance until she saw the audience members dancing at one of her Australian concerts.
@@Vince_Steele lol that's awesome! I don't suppose there's video of her reaction? I'm guessing it's too long ago for that to exist, but that would be awesome to view!
Ryan your channel makes my day you are a funny man and the Fast Forward video reminds me of my youth. I'm Steve from STRAYA 🇦🇺 Australia
Eric Bana is a star in America now.
i loved that era of comedy. people could "take the mickey" without fear of offending anyone.
Check out "The Comedy Company". That was the original show before they changed the name to "Fast Forward", then they changed again to "Full Frontal".
Eric Banner, Classic in "Chopper" the movie
Pickles on the roof, or on the outside of the windows so you can watch the staff try and wipe them off... I never did that...HONEST!! LOL
You'll probably recognise the guy with the mullet as Eric Bana, who's become a well-known actor internationally. Full Frontal's predecessor was Fast Forward, featuring Magda Szubanski, who went on to star in Babe & is a national treasure. Tons of clips of Fast Forward available on RUclips.
The humour in these shows wouldn't always be considered appropriate these days, but they were great training grounds for ppl who went on to bigger (though not necessarily better!) things.
Agreed. I grew up watching and adoring Fast Forward. Australian comedy gold.
@m3gan whittaker I agree! lol!
I was an avid FF watcher back in the day.
Then to see Eric Bana go on to portray Norm "Hoot" Hooten in Black Hawk Down......
I was seriously wowed and happy for the guy, that he got to show his acting chops in such a major movie...surrounded by some serious talent.
I think Full Frontal was a carry on or re-vamped version of Fast Forward, another classic Aussie comedy show from the 80’s
one of my favourite eric bana movies was the time travellers wife,i have watched it many times,he is a wonderful actor, and great australian
Ryan if liked Full Frontal you should check out The Comedy Company (from the 80’s) and Kath and Kim and Russel Coight. Classic Australian comedy. Aussies are not afraid to make fun of ourselves or each other and these (along with Hey Hey It’s Saturday) will give you an insight into why we’re the way we are 😁 just remember the times they were made when you watch them because what was funny (or acceptable) then may not be ok in todays times. Watching some of our comedians would also be a good insight.
Full Frontal was the best! haha. And what a legend Eric Bana is! Crazy that he went from this to big Hollywood films. That's probably why he's still so humble and down to Earth 🙂
Oh by the way, there was Fast Forward as well, which is basically the same as Full Frontal. Worth checking out if you can find it!
What was there before Fast Forward? I remember Australia, you're standing in it! and The Big Gig Tuesday nights. I think the ABC has started a a dozen different ozzie careers through it's comedy shows.
Full Frontal was honest-to-god the best show ever! And Poider was one of my favourite characters on it. I miss Aussie skit shows, they were the best. ❤
Poida is a classic Aussie Bogan
And we all stuck the pickles off our burgers to the ceiling in the dine in part of the Maccas back in the day
Watch his Ray Martin impressions (after having a look at the real Ray Martin first). That was my favourite character he did. I read Ray was not amused.
Ah, the great Australian custom of tossing ya pickles up to stick to the ceiling of the Maccas restaurant…. Only thing they are good for… and a great way to check if staff are cleaning the restaurant properly next time you visit! 😂
Poider, the original bogan
Full frontal was a continuation of ‘Fast Forward’ a 90s skit show that we absolutely love
Just for reference, Channel 31 is a community tv station where anyone can have a go at being on TV whether they are doing a course at college or just a random person on the street. Mostly people from college.
Have you seen the American film "black hawk down"? This guy plays the lead in it - one of your hero Rangers. He's a pretty versitile actor :) "Chopper" is another of his that you'd probably like for this channel. Channel 31, that Poeter says he's from, is a "Community access tv station", so basically was the youtube of it's era
Full frontal was actually a spin off of "Fast Forward" & that followed in the heals of a really famous Aussie comedy of the 80's "the comedy company" You've had a lot of requests for 'Russel Coight" too, that's originally a comedy company character. Kylie Mole & Con the fruiter are 2 other famous characters from that show. All of these would be good replacements for red faces. Norman Gunston & anything from Barry Humphries would be good too, but I think you mentioned issues with posting that stuff previously.
For comedy post full frontal, try "the chaser" Start with their APEC stunt, that was pretty mind blowing! They dressed a person as Bin Larden & made a fake motorcade & were waved through to within 50metres of George Bush's hotel, all on our National broadcaster, so paid for by our taxes. Government spent millions, if not billions on security for that event in a post 911 world, building a "ring of steel" around the whole city & the comedians were waved through every checkpoint unchecked. Mix of really funny & pretty horrifying to watch their segment on it
Yes, the Chaser was fantastic. The anti-ads were so funny, not to mention their CNNNNN parody
@@andrewhumes3402 Yes :))) CNNNNNNNNNN would be great for Ryan being American too :)
You should watch Kath and Kim. I know America tried to copy it but there can be only one Kath and Kim. They are hilarious.
Poiter (Eric Bana) did an amazing acting job in the Australian film called Chopper. The film was based on a real person, a well known criminal, called Mark 'Chopper' Reed. His acting in this film got him into Hollywood.
30 cans packaged in a box is a slab in the eastern states. In WA its 24 cans and it's called a carton. A glass of beer in a pub in the East is called a pot but in WA it's called a middie. There are larger sizes as well like a schooner, pint.
Ryan, A Slab is a carton of beer, pickles used to be thrown on the roof (ceiling) inside the dining room because people didn’t like them.
In Australia, in the early days of maccas Australian's didn't really use pickles much, at least not for burgers. So a lot of people would remove the pickles from their burgers as they weren't seen as appropriate for a burger. It became a mischievous habit to throw one's pickle up to the ceiling until it stuck there. Hence, pickles on the roof. Now we are used to them and just accept them on the burgers.
The football question was how many on an afl football team. The answer 18, means 36 in total maximum on the field.
I still hate the pickles and always remove them when I have the rare overpriced Macca’s!
The best comedy show ever produced. Eric Bana will always be one of my favourite comedians.
ohhhhh so fun fact. my dad works for a company that makes the soda cans here in Australia. Currently they also make them for America and ship the (empty) from Australia to the USA
Yes, check it Fast Forward. There are so many classic sketches that team of comedians did it’d take me all day to list them. Unfortunately I don’t think RUclips has a lot to offer. Good luck, Ryan!
Full frontal was a funny show but was a little rude sometimes. There are other tv shows we had - Kath and Kym that was so funny! Btw new sub here from good old Australia 🇦🇺
Kath and Kim - my favourite show in existence 😅😁
Eric Bana is one of my favourite Aussie actors. It’s funny to see him back in his early comic days, before he became internationally famous. Peter or Poyter was one of his more notable bogan characters. This was one of his funny send ups, very much like what Paul Hogan used to do.
I grew up in Sydney in the 80s and can confirm that we took the pickles/gherkins from our cheeseburgers and threw they at the ceiling. I'm not sure why... it was a meme so we did it.
Full Frontal followed on from Fast Forward and continued with Totally Full Frontal with much of the same cast across most of its total run. While Full Frontal itself only went from 93-97 (5 seasons), the three shows together went from 1989 to 1999 following the same sketch show format.
While Full Frontal didn't run for very long, it was only ONE of the comedy shows involving character skits, created in the 80's and 90's. Before Full Frontal, there was The Comedy Company, and Fast Forward. They tended to cycle a lot of the same (favourite) comedy actors into the new shows, but introduced new one's too - which Eric Bana was one of the last intakes for Full Frontal. Then he got his big break in the US, playing the Hulk. The one that really kicked off the MCU universe.
Anyway, two of the main female actors who cycled through the three comedy shows, went on to create their own show, called, Kath and Kim. It was very popular in both Australia and England. It was probably too weird for the States though. I would say it was the precursor to the Kardashians. People use to love watching what this weird mother and daughter duo, would get up to in their ordinary house in the burbs. Because the daughter was a real drama queen, and it was like watching a bogan train wreck.
So if you wanted more classic Australian comedy shows, look up: The Comedy Company, Fast Forward and Kath and Kim.
It only lasted 4 years because Eric Bana was discovered for "Hulk", "Troy", "Munich", "Black Hawk Down", "The Other Bolyn Girl" and other Hollywood, UK & Australian film productions.
He shouts "horsey" jumping in the pool 😂
Full frontal wasd the best part of the week when it was on TV. Use to have full episodes on RUclips but they were all removed a year or so ago. Full frontal was an evolution. 80s they were the comedy company, then they became fast forward then full frontal and they changed channels and became totally full frontal and sadly they ended after a couple years.
Eric Bana went onto Hollywood and earned a great reputation as an actor in big films.
Fast Forward was great. The episode with Ferret and Michelle dancing was hilariously bogan!
Michelle (Magda Szubanski) was in the movie Babe about training a pig to round up sheep
Yes the Ferret dancing sketches cracked me up!
OMG I just watched it and couldn't, funny but embarrassing. I remember doing the bogan dance but it was only done to take the piss.
@@franceskrahe6261 I know what you mean it is cringeworthy but it was definitely a real dance...lol
I've seen a news video on RUclips from an old concert about skinheads or sharpies and it surprised me when they really danced like F&M!

Slab is a carton of beer
Most Aussies didn't like pickles back in the day so they would be removed from burgers and thrown on the walls, where they would stick. Also, I think only Americans like cherry flavored stuff.
It all tastes like grubby cherry cough syrup to me. Revolting!!!
I have tried it and it reminds me of a taste from childhood for some reason so that's why I like it.
@@jamesfrench7299 Maybe it's the cough syrup thing. Americans get into the cherry flavor; starburst candy, jelly beans, drinks etc. I just don't see it in other countries.
relates into the cherry ripe left in the bowl joke on one of his previous videos, that he didn't get, casue he liked the cherry ripe :)
I made a cocktail from vodka, medium-dry sherry and cherry cola
I call it the Cough Medicine.
More slang for ya. Slab, box, carton of beer. 4 six packs in a slab. The house concrete flooring is a slab that is finished tiled, carpeted or floating wood floorboarded.
He said 'pickles' on the roof of McDonald's actually meaning the ceiling indoors. People used to throw the pickles, out of the burgers, at the ceiling so they would stick there.
Gross but a 70s/80s/90s aussie teenager tradition 😂
Forgot to add. Check out The Comedy Company. Kylie Mole was a bit of a trend setter 🤣😅🤣😂
Peter is a very young Eric Bana. Who would have thought he’d go on to be a big Hollywood star
Eric Bana aka Poida.
Also a Saints supporter and actually had footage of Saints playing in 'Funny People', giving a hilarious description of what is happening on the field.
lol, thanks Ryan that brought back some memories 🤣
Banana played a notorious criminal named 'Chopper Read,' a real tough guy that chopped off both his ears for some stupid reason. He was serious, totally different in that role.
The show was called Fast forward then changed the name & Some ppl. A dude in America said he invented it & called it the salmon but na it’s been called the horsie for years. 😂
You MUST watch "The Dream with Roy and HG Gymnastics" commentary on the 2000 Olympics. You'll never forget it.
Good old Eric Banana 🍌 hey Ryan 🤣
I'm sure somebody or many people have told you about him already and that you should know him. 👍
The comedy company, fast forward & full frontal had some funny stuff. ...& Iconic characters.
Ryan, the predecessor to Fast Forward was called The Comedy Company, same style of humour. While you’re at it, search for some old episodes of Kingswood Country.
Ryan. You should watch another show called Comedy. Inc. with a character called Blokeman, who does not save lives on his day off
Hey. Just discovered this channel and I love it. A few other Aussie comedy things to look at - Mother and Son, Fast Forward (the first iteration of Full Frontal), Kath and Kim, The Comedy Company, Kingswood Country and The Paul Hogan Show.
Keep up with the good work!
It was great to see that again LOL

If you went to the Hoyts Cinema on George st in Sydney in the 1980s, on a friday night and sat on the outside stairs you would see lots of Pickles. If you went to either of the 2 Mcdonalds ( opp Hoyts and the other underneath Hoyts ) and you looked up on the ceiling or floor or in the plant pots, you would see pickles. Our Cheeseburgers had pickles. Sydney CBD was a very dirty place before clean up Australia day became an annual event in 1989.
Full frontal was sort of like the Australian equivalent of Saturday night Live, there were a bunch of sketches filmed during the week and then the taping was on Friday nights in front of a live studio audience with live skits and sketches.
During the late 80's early 90's there was a plethora of great Australian TV comedy shows including many great comedians and comics. You should look up the DGEN, and fast forward. Many came out of university revues and the stand up comedy scene at the time.
Full Frontal ran for 4-5 years but was a continuation or revamp of the show Fast Forward which I think ran for about 4-5 years late 80s to 90s
Things to also watch from 90s Australia: Frontline, starring Mike Moore 😂
Man that was the funniest show ever and I love hey hey it's Saturday it's funny as
Great reaction, a couple thoughts came to mind while watching it. I guess you can see by now the stellar career that Eric Bana has had. Eric is using, and it no doubt comes easy to him, one of the few divergent Australian accents. His accent is Australian Greek/Italian/Bogan. It is genuine. You were surprised by the answer to the "footy" players question. It was not well worded because obviously it was not a real quiz. It should have said "per team." So you were right in questioning it. The total number is 36.
That was hilarious…love the old sketch shows
18 players per team, so 36 on the field. As you said, it's a fkn big field.
At the pool, he didn’t yell Aussie, he said horsie. The name for that dive.
Omg i used to watch this show growing up, it was called fast forward then full frontal. My parents would watch this, monty python, Mr Bean and faulty towers. Regarding the cherry coke i've seen individual cans for a few bucks each but not sold in large packs like the normal coke and vanilla coke. Don't know why, we used to get Dr Pepper sold in large quantities too but now I've only seen it at specialty lolly stores. Shame cuz it's my fave.
When he's diving, he's not saying Aussie, he's saying "horsey" which is the slang name for the type of dive he's doing
Fast Forward was the predessor to this show and was much funnier. Not sure if it's on YT but if you can find it you might have a laugh at their versions of Star Trek, Bewitched, Lost in Space & other iconic TV shows of the past.
could you please do a video if you watching and reacting to Round The Twist! honestly its so nostalgic and awesome
The preceding show was Fast Forward that ran for 4 years from 1989
That brought back back memories. Thanks Ryan.
I see a lot of people get confused about the subject of AFL to clear it up he said footy team meaning one team so there are 18 players on just one team on the field each team has 18 players on the field
Eric Bana is now an A-List Hollywood celebrity now... believe it or not.
Pickles….because Australians mostly take the pickles off their burgers and throw them away. In my day they were thrown against the glass windows….but the roof works too.
The Comedy Company was the show to watch before full frontal. If there is any footage available it might be Con the Fruiterer or Kylie Mole
Have you ever seen the classic Aussie movie, The Castle? You'll love it.
Australians don't usually have pickles on their burgers and kids have been known to take them off and flick them on the ceiling in McDonalds. I know from personal experience with a team of junior rugby players. We got them out the door as quickly as possible before the pickles started falling on people's heads.
🥒😂😂😂 👍
There was also Fast Forward, this show had skits too. Search for Colin Carpenter. He was so good
Full Frontal was preceded by Comedy Company which I’d argue is even more iconic and featured Kylie Mole, Con the Fruiterer and Colin as characters.
I loved Comedy Company more
How goods full frontal though, best sketch comedy I've ever seen
Some people don't like pickles so they throw them away...I love my pickles so il eat them
