Life expectancy is longer because of our health care system. Here in Australia, you don't have to die if you don't have private health care. The private and public systems work in tandem.
Life expectancy is also more closely related to vaccination rates. ACT has the highest life expectancy at 84 years, Tasmania is 82 and 7th worst, NT is 78.5 and there is a lot of correlation there due to vaccination rates as well as access to healthcare in indigenous communities.

Life expectancy is mainly about preventative health care rather than sewing you up after accidents in a hospital, going and getting stuff sorted early in life before it snowballs. People in the US will avoid going to the doctor unless they really need to, in Australia, go whenever to have whatever addressed.
USA spends 17% of GDP on healthcare yet it’s not universal. Australia spends 10% of GDP on a Universal Health Care system. You’ll find other countries with a universal health care systems are similar. Private health care in the USA is profit driven and layered in administration fees and complex plans. And in Australia, we do have a supplementary Private health care system, so far those that think we have no choice in Australia, that’s incorrect. Americans assume they have the best of everything until they realise they don’t….
Health care in Australia is very good. A couple of months ago I had an af episode. My wife took my pulse and it was 130. No panic went to doctors next day who referred me to a specialist the next day and have a monitor fitted. Next day visted specialist had monitor fitted and went home. Got a call a couple of hours later to go to local hospital was admitted to casualty next day moved to the cardiac word. Diagnosed with af and fluid on lungs. Another 3 days later cardiologist proceeded to give me an alt control delete, is stop start defib to restart. No food etc the night before. Same time I noticed pulse seemed to have reset on its own. Next day rolled into op theatre. A thin gaunt figure was at the end of my bed. I asked whether he was the grim reaper? No I am the cardiologist whist the rest of the room was having a good laugh. Looked at my file and pronounced I was ok and did not require the procedure. Released a couple of days later. No cost for all of this but it is Australia.
My family has had private health cover for over 40 years. My husband got metastatic pancreatic cancer, had chemotherapy for 15 months until he could no longer tolerate it, lived three months after and died two years after diagnosis. All we had to pay is a co-payment of $250 per year. His treatment cost over $45,000.
@@cgkennedy@cgkennedy Similar to my husband, he's had two stem cell transplants that would have cost over 2 mil, but we've paid about 2k. When you really need it, our healthcare is wonderful.
I had shoulder replacement surgery in 2022 and they discovered that I had a heart problem that needed surgery. I paid nothing for these surgeries. I don't think you can do that in the USA. Our health care system is part of the reason that we have a longer life expectations.

Ryan it's not just obesity with the life expectancy. We have a lot of obesity in Australia as well.... it's the access to healthcare. So many US citizens don't go to the doctor, don't call ambulances and can't see specialists because to do so will bankrupt them. So they will die earlier than an Australian who has access to those things for a minimum cost if not free..... never underestimate what a Universal Healthcare system delivers. Even our drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres use a flat fee of a percentage of whatever support payment you are receiving. One thing I am proud of as an Australian is our governments assistance in trying to address addictions, long term health problems and psychological problems. We aren't perfect, far from it. Universal healthcare is cheaper and has much better health outcomes across the population. For one thing, prevention is cheaper than cure. People can and do get regularly tested and examined for problems before they develop into massively expensive and life threatening conditions.
@AussieGreyWolf Agreed, more tax payer dollars per person goes to healthcare plus then they pay insurance which is also "socialised healthcare" you can choose to pay for. Thats the stupidity of their thinking, if you have insurance you are still paying for someone elses healthcare and someone elses private yacht, mansion and sports cars! The Americans have been trained well with the propaganda on healthcare though. The numbers and facts don't back up what they believe.
True. A lot of people identify as being Christian, but they are in fact not. My girlfriend, for example would say yes on a sensus, but shes not even remotely religious.
A lot of the people who write "Christian" on the census forms are not Christian. They just thoughtlessly write the name of the religion that they were born into. If there was a census question that asked, "Do you believe in God?", then the number of atheists on record would be a lot higher.

I’d expect it is a factor, given life expectancy is an average, so affected by any unexpected early death factors, ie gun deaths, road accidents, drug addiction, obesity.
That, but rather that people wait too long before seeking a doctor. In the US you even have to pay for an ambulance coming to get you and as there are so many poor people without means in the US.........
Life expectancy has more to do with the impact of two huge industries in both countries, healthcare and food. The quality of both is much higher in Australia than the USA on many levels.
Passport Access is a visa waiver, it determines how many different countries you can visit visa free. The Australian passport is very powerful. Australians spread throughout the world like the clap. Australians usually have longer visa waivers periods than other countries too.
Which is why it's one of the most popular passports to steal or forge. Just ask a certain foreign intelligence and covert ops agency, who shall remain nameless ;)
Honourary is apparently a acceptable variant of honorary in Canada, but nowhere else. So he could be an honorary Australian or Canadian, or an honourary Canadian.@@dcmastermindfirst9418
Passport access is how many countries you can visit without arranging for a visa beforehand. It is a little flawed of a metric, since (for example) Australian visitors can visit China visa free for 2 weeks, whereas American visitors can only access for 3 days. Still counts as 1. Similarly UK passport holders can go to Hong Kong for 6 months and even conduct business there, whereas Aus/US passport holders can only be tourists for a month.

The extra 5 years life expectancy is purely down to Universal health care. If going to hospital is going to bankrupt you, you only go when it is almost too late. An Australian goes at early symptoms and has the greater chance of survival. Diet helps a bit, but going to the Doctor is the big one.
@@AB-zf6by That is exactly what I meant by going to Doctor/hospital early. Prevention is way better than simply waiting until you get sick and then only going to seek medical help when you have no other choice.
The USA's appalling (for a developed nation) rate of infant and mother mortality in childbirth isn't helping that average life expectancy number much either
A nation that pays the tab for sickness has a vested interest in prevention. So there is effort to enact proven prevention strategies. That includes plain packaging for tobacco products etc, as well as free health screening such as for bowel and breast cancer. We are the melanoma capital of the world, but we have researchers who have improved its survivability from 5% to 50%.
According to the most recent census, about 44% of those who responded claimed to be christian. Note that that question is not compulsory when you complete the census form. "No religion" was the response of almost 39%. That may become the majority position by the next census.

We do have quite a lot of guns (but very, very few handguns), but protection from other people is not a valid reason for owning or obtaining one, except in restricted occupations such as bank security, police and armed forces. Our laws do not encourage or validate vigilantism, so we aren’t allowed to carry them around unless we are transporting them to another place for use (such as target practice or for rural pest control), and they must be locked up when not specifically in use. Black market guns do exist, but are very, very expensive, so are not practical for theft (if you can afford one, you don’t need to steal). High Australian exports is a bit misleading, because "all" exports are unprocessed products of mining and agriculture. Coal, Iron Ore, Cattle, raw Wool and Grains. Our high standard of living means we can not economically turn these products into steel, cloth and processed food, let alone cars, refrigerators and TVs. China is our biggest export market, but they are in trouble at the moment. A rocky economic road ahead for Australia.
I have been to the US to visit relatives in California , We had a great time but we did notice people in the US live on less, they have poor healthcare and education for ordinary people compared to us here in Australia. You have a lot more homeless ( we have some but nowhere near as many). In the US the quality of life is not as good. We only work 35 hrs a week, we have 4 weeks annual leave mandated. We have 15 days a year paid sick leave that you can accumulate over the years you work for an employer. You cannot usually get fired that easily unless you do something severe like steel or do something dangerous. Most people have a 2 day weekend every week. Plus we can have one day off a fortnight (RDO - Rostered Day Off) (every second weekend is a long weekend). Plus our weather is warmer all year around. We don't get involved in as many wars - we do support the US normally but only those who volunteer to join the military have to get involved - the rest don't really care except on ANZAC day . Most people could not name a single soldier who died outside a direct family member. We still have some social problems like drugs etc but overall we live good lives and know it! Hope that gives you a snap shot. Come to Australia and find out for your self is my tip.

But the whole of Australia celebrates the foundation of NSW which we called foundation day but it's now called Australia Day. Maybe because we were the first ones created out of everyone.
We are fat over here in Australia too but our obesity rates are a bit lower. I think general quality of life, healthcare system, and stress levels probably have a lot to do with the average life expectancy. People living without the internet probably includes a lot of people living in poverty or in traditional ways. Can't say it would be all of them. I'm kinda surprised Aussie Rules beats Rugby League, but I'm not a real sports person and I live in Brisbane. Apparently AFL has over double the spectatorship and average attendance of the NRL. Cricket kinda skews things with the fact that is is more the international games that gets the viewers. The NRL State of Origin and Boxing Day Test (cricket) get more attendees than AFL gets but those are kinda the biggest events for those. Bald Eagles are cool... however the Bald Eagle are not truly eagles though. They are more closely related to Kites than they are to the True Eagles.
NRL State of Origin and Boxing Day Test do not get higher attendances. Boxing Day Test is played at the MCG, which is where the AFL Grand Final is played and it has capacity crowds. So Boxing Day test cannot get larger crowds. State of Origin ia played at stadiums which have smaller seating capacities.
@@gailstevens6831 & @markwaters3050 so I worded this poorly as I was talking the average attendance for these events.
I had shoulder replacement surgery in 2022 and they discovered that I had a heart problem that needed surgery. I paid nothing for these surgeries. I don't think you can do that in the USA. Our health care system is part of the reason that we have a longer life expectations.

*NFL is not a sport, it's an entertainment franchise.
This old buzzard remembers the days when AFL football players had a regular job and trained after work. These days ???? Well it's a different story.
Him pronouncing Canberra right caught me off guard😂
Because of your civil war and becoming a republic and breaking from England/Britain; most americans consider that they speak american not english per se! even though american is english. Although your way of speaking English is very different to traditional English in many ways. greetings from australia
Sounds like you're making shit up, greetings from Melbourne ;)
More Americans are of German ancestry than English.
Regarding internet usage; here in Australia we have an aging population & they would be the ones who account for less users of the internet.
As an older Australian ........ Rubbish. We all have mobile phones now, even in nursing homes. The fact that the networks are bad in remote areas probably has a lot more to do with that figure.
Educative is not a word, it should be 'educational'. Also, versus is from the latin and the word is pronounced with two soft 'S' sounds. Versus is not the plural of verse.
Educative is most definitely a word 😊
Educative is a word, but they're using it incorrectly. You say something is for 'educative purposes' similar to how you'd say that something is 'illustrative of' etc.
Both words, educative and educational, are adjectives, but generally are used differently. The former relates to the process of being educated. The latter to the article having value in the process.

Australia USED to export steel, cloth and processed foods. The government killed those industries.
You actually look like an Aussie, the Yank accent is cool😊
Gina Reinhart is currently worth 40.6 billion AUD, about 14 billion ahead of her nearest rival, Harry Triguboff.
About time she and her companies paid some bloody tax, isn't it?

Australian population now 26m.
adds 650k each year . . . of which 100k is natural growth

Median income/ gini coefficient does peg Australia up a bit in comparison to USA
You're out of date. It passed 27 million at the start of the year.
@@RandomStuff-he7lu - ok. i thought i'd seen that but a search returned the 26m
Fun fact most states have a day to celebrate the foundation of their state or territory e.g. Canberra Day for Australian Capital Territory, Western Australia Day, Proclamation day for south Australia.
But the whole of Australia celebrates the foundation of NSW which we called foundation day but it's now called Australia Day. Maybe because we were the first ones created out of everyone.
Those financial statistics are super old.
Im Australian. I've lived in 21 countries. The only country i was afraid in was the US
We are fat over here in Australia too but our obesity rates are a bit lower.
Sorry, but the Boxing Day Test and the AFL Grand Final are both played in the same arena, and both to sold out crowds.
@@gailstevens6831 & @markwaters3050 so I worded this poorly as I was talking the average attendance for these events. The average attendance for a State of Origin game and the Boxing Day Test is higher than the average attendance at an AFL game. However, the Grand Final for the AFL I'm sure is also sold out at the MCG.

Defence spending as a % of GDP is a much more useful way of thinking how much a country spends on the military. US is 3.4% and Australia is 1.9%.

Yes Gina, known to all by that single name btw because she is notorious, is our richest person. The very wealthy work hard to hoard their money and pay either minimal or no tax. So it might be more equal here but not that much. If these companies paid their rightful share we'd be in a much fairer society. Gina does pay tax but she doesn't give us a share of the minerals she exports and which actually belong to all of us. Currently she's on a campaign to bring nuclear power to our country even though it's banned, we don't want it or need it, it would be far more expensive than the much cheaper and safer renewable energy which we have an abundance of, and be far too late to do anything to mitigate against climate change and not as effective as renewable energy in that respect either. This is just so it will prolong the life of coal mining and her sense of entitlement to keep money pouring into her coffers. She's not a good person.
She hoards it even from her own children.
We aren’t all rich. I’m not rich but still happy to be an Aussie. Great country
Rugby is our second most popular sport but has less than half as many fans as Aussie Rules does. Soccer is third, again with less than half the fans as rugby and way less than a quarter of those of Footy. Rugby and Footy fans often have a bit of friendly rivalry between them, whereas Soccer fans tend to stick to themselves over here.
Australia's most popular sport is watching it ...... sport, any sport and more sport.

We get poor speeds on NBN for what we pay, and the connection quality depends on the technology you get, but it's really not the worst in the world. Also our mobile data is very cheap per GB by global standards
There is some truth in your hypothesis about the difference in life expectancy Ryan: obesity is a problem in Australia too, but our portion sizes tend to be smaller, so we tend to eat less overall and thus have slightly less bad cholestrol and trans fats in our system.
Australian rules is not the most popular sport in Queensland and New South Wales
Ummm yeah ok 😑..we can see you're butthurt, but the stats were about the Country - not about the State/s 🤦♂️
