Can you believe that John would do a concert in a venue like this, and then come to my home-town (and other regional areas), where the biggest auditorium held 2000 people, and put on a show exactly the same? He's always had such gratitude for the fans who support him.
Should also add, I've seen Elton John live. Farnsy is better.
In the 90s John's concerts were occasionally simulcast live on prime time TV in Australia. Usually on a Saturday evening.
And EVERYONE watched them.
He pretends to not want to sing it but he really loves it. it was his very first hit record in the 60's, so it is beloved because we love him.
1967? He would have been 18. What a career - right up until early 2020 - a charity concert - and then pandemic, and then an oral cancer diagnosis august 2022.

Through youtube I have now discovered John's repertoire of songs and show performances. Love them all, even Sadie the Cleaning Lady! I'm 5 years older than John and was just about past the pop songs of that era, but I've heard the more recent up tempo version, with a more modetn arrangement, and it's really catchy. And yes, we fans love all his songs. Great singer, great rapport with his audiences, and great love for his fans. 21.9.23. UK. E❤
So very proud of our John, he holds the hearts of all Australians in his hands. Show me another artist anywhere else in the world that has running jokes with a nation. That is a bond like no other. John is not alone, he can overcome anything with the love and support of a whole nation behind him.
The Bee Gees sang my "old man's a dustman' . They also started their career's in Australia ,on Australian television.
Prayers for John who was rushed to hospital yesterday with a respiratory infection. He's a fighter and a lover. Loves his family, his friends, his fellow musicians and all his crew and his audiences too. Beloved here, not only for his stupendous talent, but because he's a lovely down to earth 'bloke next door' kinda guy without a speck of 'Star Ego'. Get well soon JF. 😍

The long haired guitarist behind him is Jack Jones ( stage name), and fabulous singer and musician.
I think that John, way back at the beginning of his career, had a Manager that wanted him to do soft stuff (like Sadie) and he also wanted him to do stage musicals (where he met his wife). Once John changed direction and his Manager, his voice was finally showcased.
You will understand the bloomers after he has sung the song. Enjoy classic Johnny Farnham. John recorded this in 1967, at the ripe old age of 18. He followed up this song with a Flanagan and Allen cover Underneath The Arches. He also did a cover of The Easybeats song Friday Kind of Monday in 1968. This was John's pop era as an up and coming artist.
Back in the day if concerts were a sell out, they Telecasted them Live. They also used one of the Radio Stations to Broadcast Live.
So to get the best sound at home, you turned the TV on and turned the volume off. Went to the Stereo system, tuned it into the Broadcast and could watch the Concert on TV while blasting out the sound on the Stereo for maximum effect. Both in perfect sync.

My Mother in Law was the greatest fan of John Farnham (She herself was a singer)
When he went to New Zealand, he played in a bar, North Shore Auckland and she was in the audience... There was a competition for the best Sadie/ Cleaning Lady 'knee's'... Mother in Law WON that competition...
She got her knees autographed by John Farnham... Also another autograph for her son (My future husband) on a coaster. He treasured it... Over the years, it did disappear... Maybe the kids 'ate' it... I don't know... but the memories remain.
Sadie the Cleaning Lady was a hit for that time, but he's done so much more since then... One of the best Singers with one of the BEST voices... EVER!

Watching the original now after seeing the crowd request it all the time would be a good idea. John was only 18 but you can still recognise his wonderful voice.
I went to see him in a small hotel in western Queensland when both he and I were legally under the age to be on licensed premises. It was 1969 and he was brilliant (and yes, he sang this.) Thanks for the reaction.

Followed up by several other top 10 and number one hits over the next few years. Including Raindrops Keep Falling in my Head. King of Pop for 5 consecutive years from 1960 adored by tweens, teens, mums amd dads and grandmas for his clean cut humble image. He got ,married in 1973 at 24yo and the tide turned and he fell out of favour. This is when he was doing the night club stint where no one was tuning up, or he was competing with the pokie machines and resorted to mike tricks ... It wasnt till 1980 when he release uncovered , with One and Help on it that he started to come back into favour. Followed by 4/5 year stint in LRB. In 1987 he left LRB and release Whispering Jack album with your the voice. The album stayed at number 1 for 27 weeks. Went 17x platinum and still holds the record for the highest ever selling album by and Aussie in Australia. And 2nd highest album ever when you included international artists. He was pipped at the post by Meatloaf. BAT out of Hell. He just went from strength to strength after that and the rest is history.
MANY ARIA awards and a Logi, and verious other awards and recognitions later, including being made Aussie of the year and havimg had number one albums and hits over 6 consecutive decades...... He is THE Living Legend of our music industry. Also voted the Singers Singers by his peers....jimmy barnes came in number 5 ...
Sadie was in the genre of British Musical Theatre, the B side was another BMT called Underneath The Arches. As John progressed, he had other songs and some hits like: Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, One, You'll Never Walk Alone, Friday Kind of Monday, and Comic Conversations.
John. 74, has recently had a jaw removed. I've loved his singing since the '60s and decades on, He is a true treasure to us Skippies.
Part jaw, followed by reconstruction, so all the surgeries that go with that Aug 2023 he announced he was cancer free. His family and friend Gaynor have said he is doing well, even singing around the house.
Sadie was his first hit back in 1967. In one of his concerts a few years later he said that Sadie had won Lotto & gone into retirement.
He does the best mother in law jokes and by all accounts had a fantastic relationship with her. 💕

Anthony Warlow a fully trained opera singer was about No 40 and Jimmy Barnes No 5. John Farnham has never had a single lesson. John has perfect pitch. When Freddie Mercury died John was the first person contacted by Queen to try out for the gig. He didn’t get it but it was a real honour. Thanks for your great work and love Michelle.

After 1974 he was married and lost his teen pop appeal and was reduce to playing clubs and singing covers on variety television and was without a recording deal having been dropped from EMI Records Australia .
1980 he signed a management deal with Glenn Wheatley in 1979 by 1980 he was out of clubs and had strong backing band and playing to more rock attendance in pubs and had chart comeback he’s reinterpretation of The Beatles Help reminded Australians how well John can sing .
1982 to early 1986 John Farnham was lead singer of the Little River Band which also managed by Glenn Wheatley .
1986 broke and still without recording company support made Whispering Jack album that features his most successful song You’re The Voice . Whispering Jack end up selling 24x platinum 1,700,000 copies in Australia making the album the most successful Australian album in Australia local domestic market .
So from 1986 to 2003 John adult contemporary pop rock arena years John Farnham was out selling he’s International competition like Elton John , Billy Joel , Bruce Springsteen and even Michael Jackson in Australia .
2003 to 2011 semi retired years reduced he’s concert size down on his own terms enjoyed touring with other artists like Tom Jones , Olivia Newton John , Lionel Richie and Stevie Nicks and a much longer time gaps between albums .
2012 to 2021 no new albums just doing summer festivals no more than 10 shows in a year spending more time fishing which is favourite thing he enjoys to do .
John Farnham had sold close to 7 million records just in Australia alone making him the most successful Australian domestic artist . That’s pretty impressive in country that has population 26 million .

That was fun. Always love both your reactions. I loved the Mexican wave. John’s interaction with his audience is a big part of his endearance to us when we went to his concerts. Yeah, daggy old Sadie rears it’s head from when he was 18, but it’s always great fun.

Whenever he gets to the inevitable "No Sadie" part in his concerts, and they always come, I feel like misquoting Shakespeare - "the Farnsey doth protest too much methinks". He always says no and "knick-off", but deep down I think he really wants to. 😂
His backup singer, Lisa Edwards, is the daughter of one of the dancers in his original Sadie video. Yes he shortened the song. Ty to find the video it's b&w even i you just see it for yourselves. His wife Jill was a great dancer way back. His cancer is finished, and he's singing at home, we've been told recently.
There is a clip online of the first time Celine Dion first met Farnham and she is all school girl fan girl gushing about meeting the voice. Just as Farnham himself looks at Tom Jones with adulation. However, when Farnham starts singing, Jones looks at him with respect. This was only the short vesion search out him singing it in the 60s on a show called Bandstand (not American Bandstand) he appears to be around 16 or17 at the time and had his cheeky personality even then .
Farnsey jokes about it, but he doesn't hate singing it. He has said that he doesn't hate the song, because it was the song that started his career and he appreciates that. Sometimes he teases the audience with it, but doesn't sing it.

He was a plumbing apprentice before singing
Sadie was longer and he changed some words. He made it sound better than it was. It was so uncool to like him when he was 18. I was just a tween but little kids and old ladies loved him. Not what John was going for. Thank you and it made me laugh.

John Farnham is a very clean pg rated performer. Its a rare find in todays society.
Well, that was his hit sung back in the '60s. It's just one of those ditties, novelty tunes. Should watch the black and white tv version of him singing it. It's a bit of a joke that everyone calls for it to be sung, but there are lots of people who do know it. Sadie and his mother-in-law jokes are pretty par for the course at his concerts. And, of course, you saw the size of the crowds he pulls.

I was 12 when I first heard Sadie and spent most my of my Chrissy school holidays singing it, LOL and I can’t sing to save myself!! I’ve been a huge fan ever since. He has always been the first person to offer his time/voice to any cause both OS and in Oz to raise money to help out. I so missed him with the last concert for flood victims, but hey we all know that he is probably still in mourning over Glens passing. It’s not just my generation who loves him, he is our favorite son over all generations and even if you have never met him he feels like one of your family. I’ve become a Farnsey reaction addict. I hated that song. And I didn’t like Johnny Farnham when he first appeared. Then we didn’t see him for a while. The next song I knew was Comic Conversations, and he was now John Farnham. And I started to listen. He came and went, had ups and downs, and then came the Whispering Jack album! Wow!
