Visiting Australia for the year. As soon as I introduce myself, anyone over 40yrs old INSTANTLY starts singing this song... I finally gave in a looked it up. Yowza!
I'm only 40 but grew up loving my parents music.. Late 50s to early 2000, since then music just crap. Grew up with Johns later stuff on radio ...but softest spot for this 'Johnny' era
My late mum's name was Sadie. We moved to Australia from England the year this song came out. People would sing it to her (as would we) wherever she went. 😊
Yes I remember this song when it came out and I had a pin up of Johnny Farnham (from the TV week) in my bed room. AND my nanna loved him and his voice, she bought the Sadie single and use to play it all the time. B-)
Never heard this one before until my daughter played in on her phone. Was amazed to see it was by John Farnham, I remember him having some big hits over here in the UK in the mid 80s
This was the song that kicked him off, bubble gum at its best/worst. The songs from the 80's were really quite remarkable and i didnt believe it was him when they came out, a yuge diff from Sadie. Didya see the height of the stilts hes on OMG, ha ha ha, hes a shorty.
What a Magnificent Talent...John is one of the Greatest Male Vocalists I have ever heard...There is Nothing he cannot sing....Just Amazing...Love Him :)
Remember this as a kid and thought John was so hot! He still kept his looks and his voice just got better with age. Admittedly I prob wouldn't go to one of his concerts as I'm into different music but I do admire his talent.
Classic white boy dancing as demonstrated by Eddie Murphy in Raw. I think Rick Astley may have been channeling Johnny, except he didn't quite look like his arms were superglued to his sides and his feet nailed to the floor like Johnny.
Poor John, this song haunted him for years and was a barrier to being taken seriously in the 70s and 80s. Luckily he was able to break back through in 86 and people finally appreciated his enormous voice and talent.
❤❤❤❤ I was about 8 when I first heard this song, back in 1970 (I know it came out earlier) I love this song and still do to this day. Johnny Farnham.....just a legend in his own lifetime. Watched him through all the years and all the changes... I just love him❤❤❤❤👍👍🇭🇲🇭🇲
Am I the only one (well, I probably am) who's wondering HOW THE HECK DID THIS SWEET VOICE TURN INTO THE AWESOMELY EPIC HOLLERING he used in "You're the Voice"?!?!?
@@thedolphin5428 years and years of practice. Look up some of the professional music teachers reactions to his songs, where they're in awe of both his voice and technical expertise. A true expert makes it look easy.
A song of its time . when you consider songs like don't you know its magic , help , playing to win, you're the voice, touch of paradise , age of reason, that's freedom and burn for you, you can understand why john gets embarrassed when doing this song .
Pop music in those days was very universal, most countries had what we now call novelty pop songs, all "of their time". . There is a later uptempo version which has managed to move on from the 60s era - it's much more fun 16.9. 23. . E❤
He does - because he ALWAYS gets asked for it, it was a novelty song forty years earlier, he remade himself as a pop/rock singer in the 1980s and did some really great songs, but always got asked for this oldie.
John Farnham is the only artist local or foreign to have a number 1 album in Australia in five consecutive decades 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s
I recall this song (although I'm not sure about this version) from around the late 60s. My late mother used to watch "The Golden Shot" and I'm sure this song was on that. Enough said.
I remember this and remember most of the words too. Johnny Farnham as he was then known was my dream boat he was dreamy! I liked him way more than Ronnie Burns. Ah the heart of a teenager, still like Johnny Farnham. Sadie the Cleaning Lady and then Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.
Yes, and who didn't have a Sadie vacuum cleaner in the 70's? For those who don't know, it was a 5 gallon drum on wheels, motor in the top. It had a huge capacity, making it ideal for the home workshop. Marketed as the "GE Sadie", we all knew it was named after this song, although officially, nothing was ever said. We still have one.
@59771006 I agree. Not many were really that keen on the lyrics at the time from memory. It was a very catchy song though and from memories there were radio stations that wouldn't play it. Yet it went to no. 1. and yes it started off his career and he climbed.
I remember whenever he came on to Hey Hey It's Saturday in Australia they would play this in the background. If he could have his time again this would be one song he would have knocked back, despite what he tells crowds at concerts.
@@sbalogh53 I loved it when I was a little kid. I do remember him being embarrassed when it was mentioned in later years. Such a gracious man. Wishing you all the best, John.

I love you John even though I’ve never seen you in person but we are related.❤
Cleaning ladies were hot in the 60's
They would have had giant bushes, the lot of them. No such thing as waxing back in those days and it was unheard of for women to shave down there.
They weren't cleaning lady's, guy
@@trentbell5931 those cleaning ladies were begging for it

i hide my torturous depression through several layers of irony to drown out the pain
Those lady's in the back are good dancer's
Don’t know why people give him so much shit for this song, it slaps!!
Best song to clear a pub at karaoke
Age. He often commented that his voice wasn't as "clean" is it had been in his youth. He blamed cigarettes and red wine - probably right, too.

Haha my childhood crush 🥰
When you think if John hadn't recorded Saide he wouldn't be where he is today
John Farnham at around age fiftyish did say in an interview (l don't remember when or where) that he hates this song.
