This just proves that knowing how to light your scene and using the appropriate lens is FAR more important than the camera body. Cameras have come such a long way that there's almost no such thing as a bad modern camera. The R50 is probably far more capable than any Super 35 camera from the 90s or 2000s that was used to shoot some of our favorite Hollywood films. All in all the R50 is a great budget camera, and if you rig it out and slap on a T1.05 cinema lens it's quite the little beast with great low light performance. Being able to shoot at 4K30 oversampled from 6k in 4:2:2 10 bit without any crop for $649 is insane.
We shoot weddings with our m50's, lite commercial work as well. They kick ass. I really want to upgrade to the Canon R6 Mark II, however, I love the small form factor of the R50 and it's capability. This just reaffirms that the R50 is nothing to scoff at, especially with lighting and some post production skills. Well done guys.
Thank you! We agree-it's lightweight, produces a clean picture, and doesn't break the bank.
I'm impressed with the R50 and the HDR PQ mode. Plus, the fact that the R50 has a 6K sensor upscaled to 4K. That's pretty dang good for the price as well.
i wonder if it's just the PQ mode but that R50 sure has crunchy harsh highlights. reminds me of the older DSLR video days.
Important to note... all the b-roll and non commercial stuff was filmed with the portrait profile. After editing this we realized we should have just shot PQ on all the footage.... not just the commercial footage.
That being said, yes that stuff certainly came out looking like 2016 RUclips but with a bit more sharpness because at least we are getting 4k
I think the comment of “the camera isn’t design for that type of rig” my question would be, Why not? I know you guys kind of answered it anyway, but I stepped up to this from a T7 and it has been amazing to see what it can do and learning how to shoot as well as videography on this with the EF lenses I have for it. I’d like to see it in other environments as well and see what it can do.
Not everyone can afford a 2k or 3K R5 or R6 mk ii, For those of us its a R7 or R8 and even those have limitations.
LOVED THIS!! So informative, creative and funny!! Well done!!👍🏻
That commercial slapped tho!
Tom and Jerry are the best
Oh Tom and Jerry, what a duo!
Thank you for filming the b roll!
When shooting in the PQ mode, would CST be needed in post? If so what would the input settings be? As in davinci all i could find was canon cinema gamut and canon log?
Is there much of a difference when colouring C log vs HDR PQ 10 bit
i recently got the Canon R50 kit and separate purchased a Canon RF-S 55-210mm len's , just curious , how much is that len's used on this video ,you guys using ?? where to buy ,thanks
waiting for the comparison ... ✌️
Please guys tell me what the color grading process was, it really looks great.
Looks good 👌🏼
Which gimble are you used for R50?
this is my question, I hope you answer it. When I shoot HDR PQ and convert it to REC 709 I get blotchy skin tones but the dynamic range seems 12+ stops ish. It's basically unusable because of the blotchy skin tones. What what your process to keep the footage from falling apart? I think this is a very important question as I do not consider HDR PQ and option unless I plan to make HDR content.
If you’re using premiere, make sure sequence settings are set to rec 709 color space, and enable max bit depth and render quality, and then use 10-bit lumetri scopes to see your volumes as you’re grading. Don’t curve the same way you would with log, because pq is already curved to focus on midtones and compress lows and highs. Export setting will of course be rec 709, but make sure to select max bit depth and render quality, and encode at 110% of the bitrate that the camera is using for the file. Hardware h265 is fast and better than h264, but will be slowed down by software encoded effects like warp stabilize for example. I know it’s an old comment, but I hope this helps.
Wow. I am very impressed with the R50. I had the M50. But, this looks so much better. Hmmm.
I made it in one of your videos!!! Check that box off from my bucket list!! Loved it!
Love ya pops!
So where’s that Zv e10 comparison
Which one should I choose zve10 or R50 for both photography and videography equally
Canon. It has a much better sensor and better autofocus as well as the evf which the Sony doesn’t even have
Whpo's going on a date with Connor McCaskill?
Hi, I am a newbie.. can you help me so to choose which lens I should buy? I want to buy the Canon R50, but I don't know which lens I should buy. I need to do manly photos to my family.. so for example to a person (bokeh effect) or to group of persons. Which one of these lens you recommend to me?
1) CANON RF-S 55-210MM F5-7.1 IS STM
2) Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM
3) CANON RF 24MM F1.8 MACRO IS STM
4) Canon RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
Get a RF 50mm , RF 35mm, RF 85mm.. all 1.8.f... i guess you will be done
What gimbal are you guys using with the R50?
The old Ronin-S!
hey gents please can you donate the R50 to me ?
