For anyone looking for parts and want to get them fast for the HBX, redcat also sells it as the volcano 16 (brushed version only) and has all the parts available on their site including all the upgrade parts. It has a slightly different style body, wheels and tires as well.
Really good video. You're still my favourite RC channel. I've drifted out of RC for the moment, but yours and Tomley's are the videos I still watch regardless.
You should post an instructional about greasing the diffs. What grease to use. How to get at the diffs. How to put it back together etc. Maybe throw in how to add oil to shocks or any other routine maintenance
So actually if you check out this video, that will probably help you quite a bit. Obviously a much different car but the principles are the same. ruclips.net/video/IHUf3C0wBv8/видео.htmlsi=0ZrMgQRmKlGQfZDX
@@DerbyCityRC watched it. Too fast and way over my head. I think a ton of people would really appreciate a nice in depth maintenance and necessary new parts and improvements tutorial for the 16889a Pro.
Service videos are boring to make lol. I do usually show any service that needs to be done just incorporated into my videos, but I don’t even have a 16889a pro anymore since I turned mine into a 16889/903a hybrid. It’s much better lol
@@DerbyCityRC all of them. And I eventually ended buying the mjx mew4 m162 for 60 eur and I m totally thrilled by this choice, that thing is a little rocket.
Today was actually my very first day that I enjoyed my HBX 16889-A Pro as much as I enjoy the HBX 16889-A and the MJX Hyper Go after sorting out the binding sideshafts on the rear drivetrain.
Great comparison video. Objective but also subjective when needed. We have both trucks. I have driven them hard and my kids as well, each one is tough and a great value. 3s speed is so fun and the MJX takes an absolute beating. Hard to go wrong with either one, but I still like the HBX on 2s from a power to handling balence stand point. These little trucks can be a bit unwieldy with 3s jam.
@@sebastianjaromi3540 I'm late to the game to hep answer your question, but I have been shy in using a 3s for the HBX. The HBX ESC even in brushless was not intended for 3s, but that doesn't mean it can't handle certain 3s batteries or short duration 3s running, I've just not tried. I have 3 kids, and I want durability, so we went a different route that I think has worked really well. We put some larger diameter and mover narrow squishy tires (slightly heavier than stock - overall track width is about the same) to increase speed, increase ground clearance, and make a small improvement in air control. They are actually crawler tires with smaller dia rim and taller tire side wall and they work well pretty dang well -especially off road! On road, they are a little bit sticky and can flip the truck, but if you adjust the steering angle on the controller they work great - even for kids. I think they are a really nice durability setup and add "usable" suspension travel (sounds dumb, but it's a real thing). So, the wheels are two piece rims that have a bead and are air seal (atmospheric pressure). If you smash hard or hit a curb, you get an extra amount of energy absorption. Sometimes on really hard impacts, they will bust the tire bead open and off the rim, but that just helps absorb the impact so the truck doesn't get damaged. The great thing is if the bead busts open, you can easily re-assemble the tire/wheel assembly with a phillips screwdriver and re-bead the tire/rim quickly. Obviously, this is a specific use case for my needs and it won't win you any races where handling is a top priority, but it will help the truck achieve a higher top speed and be more durable.
Use 3M dual lock for MJX to use 3s ovonic short lipo or any battery modification. Super easy modification and has been solid for bashing the car. No need strap.
Sorry fellas, but what is 3M dual lock exactly please?!?? (Maybe some kinda tape or Velcro type maybe? Bc so far my results have been EXACTLY like Evan's here, but none the less consistent & super on point/same w the 2 trucks Evan's comparing here and I'd love to understand this detail on my MJX's batt security/best fit w bigger battery options that otherwise wouldn't fit properly...) Thanks Evan/& REALLY everyone here on these 2 current best 16 scale beasts. And mega thx to you guys for posting such mega informative findings/possible solutions to help both brands with the very few cons that come along eventually w both brands here & how to remedy/future proof em better!!!!!!!
I have the mjx h16bm man. I definitely recommend it, you wanna refill the shocks with some good oil and rebuild the diffs with lithium grease for 3s or you will explode the plastic having gone through 6 sets now. An aluminum cased diff would seal the deal
Love this comparison, thank you! Some suggestions for future videos, I'd love to see a short tutorial on how you feather the throttle to do back flips and front flips. Also, it may be boring to others, but when I have to fix something, videos or tips, tool suggestions, and things like that really help. My tools meant for cars don't always seem to be the best for these trucks...
great comparison! Your channel is the reason why a bought HBX. Now I have 3! from cheapest through pro and I customized the pro for all metal parts. Turned out metal gave the car a better handle at turns in high speed also feels better at braking. keep it up love your videos.
Evan Dude that was a truly great comparison ! Both Cars deserve huge accolades for being better than 98% better than any other budget Rc, as we see here in your video! The durability crossed with exceptional performance from each of these rigs! There’s a reason why there are so many rebrands of both of these. Even Redcat went rebranded this platform from ! Your 👊🏼👍🏻✌🏻😃sounds good to me brother!
Thanks Robby!! Yes these are both pretty unbeatable for sure! I feel like every week I see a new rebrand of one of these lol Very much appreciate the comment!! 😃
Honestly after buying the Flyhal FC600 Brushless I had to get back into this Hobby properly so grabbed a Arrma Granite. The granite is awesome and I drove it exclusively for several days. I eventually decided I needed to use up some of my already charged FC600 batteries and couldnt believe how much fun I was still having with it. I can fling it around with little worry, it goes from 0-max in about 1 sec, it is stuck to the road......I love it. I read it might have shorter gearing that 16889a pro so 3s mission is on. I am not going to bother 3s ing that red combined esc/rec.....I want results 😁
Good video. Also your observations on the differential differences are spot on and confirmed by long term reviews of others. The differential is a weak point on the hypergo and regularly requires maintenance in reviews.
This one here: amzn.to/40TB5Cg Here is the review if it. Very fun car. It’s more expensive, but reflected in the quality: ruclips.net/video/8l5ghStObnE/видео.htmlsi=LkwEY_fXFaygOjzF
@johnmachter40 really you should do it before running the car the first time. Make sure they’re greased or oiled. Most of these cheaper ones won’t hold an oil though. So could go with a thick grease to help the tires from “diffing out” too much. For the most part after that, unless the grease seems to be leaking out, you could just open it back up when there’s an issue. Everyone is different on their maintenance though.
Evan! Alan here (Alan who? Who cares!) I have a tryout suggestion for you- combed thru your vids up to a year back and I don't think you've reviewed it- Laegendary Thunder. I got one and love it- think it might handle like the MT10 (very very well and pretty darn fast too) but I don't know for sure since I don't have the MT. The shell is FRAGILE but thanks to your vids, I know how to deal with that! Otherwise, I l totally dig it. So, if you feel inclined, man I'd love to see you try one
This video came at perfect timing. I have been debating these two cars and the HBX 16809a Pro for my son. Looks like HBX will be a more reliable fit for us
Great vids, lots of info and very entertaining! Just pulled the trigger on the HBX16890A for me and my 6 year old, seems to just be the newest model of the 889A. Great channel, FYI you remind me of Jake Johnson, you guys might be related.
Thanks man! Yes the 16890a should be very comparable! People tell me I look like jake Johnson all the time lol. Even way back when “new girl” first started lol
I have 2 MJX's and love them, but I wanna see some upgrade videos please. I have just upgraded the TX/RX to the dumboRC with gyro. I'd love to see options for LWB chassis option and also alternative tire options. I'd also like to learn of shock/shock oil options and possibly an ESC upgrade. I'm using a 2s 3000mah Lipo and they give me amazing runtimes! These 1/16th size cars are THE BEST! Thanks for your vid!
2 videos ago I did try it with bigger tires. Did you see that one? I do actually have a video planned (hopefully our within a month) for doing some upgrades that should apply to the mjx. 👍👍
@@DerbyCityRC Yeah, I did see that. I think the biggest problem with the MJX is the suspension geometry... for example the front control arm are at their maximum droop with the length of the shock.... and at that length the steering binds a little... if you compress the shock a little, 10mm for example and then try the steering, it's much easier... Now, If you FULLY compress the shock, and then rotate the wheel, you will find that the axles bind and you have the reduce the compression of the shock slightly in order for the axle to free up and allow the wheel to rotate. I'm wondering if thats the reason why you may be getting bouncy landings.... I see that there are Aluminum upgrade parts now for the MJX on Aliexpress... I might get a set to see if there is an improvement in its geometry to solve the drive shaft binding issue and also the steering binding, but I agree with you that the aluminum is bad for a basher...
@@DerbyCityRC just spent the day installing and then eventually uninstalling the aluminum ‘upgrade’ parts. Terrible product…. I’d like to try upgrading the steering servo…. Know of anything that might fit?
Ya I’ve seen a lot of aluminum parts that don’t fit right on all kinds of different cars, but honestly, they can be problematic even if they do fit right so it’s best to not have them on there in most cases. I don’t know if any aluminum parts that fit yet, unfortunately.
Well, nice comparison - but you didn't mention the separate ESC and receiver system in the MJX. For me that's a huge advantage, being able to install a decent radio w/o the need to switch the ESC as well. I got an MJX Hyper Go Truggy, and that thing's a beast. The Diffs in the MJX are indeed a lower quaity, but to swap them out for a steel version is kinda cheap as well.
Thanks, and yes good point I forgot to mention that. Luckily the three newest HBX models have separate receivers, but certainly one of the nice things about the hyper gos!
Ha ha, those neighbours have learned to park their cars far up their driveways, it rains RC cars! Really nice comparison, I am of course biased towards the HBX, ha ha, so I also like what you concluded. One thing you didn't mention is it looks like the HBX has longer wheelbase and smaller wheels, very helpful for controlability! Cool to watch your videos as always, dude, have a great weekend there!
Haha! They better watch out! Actually I just noticed last night that the HyperGo may have a slightly longer wheelbase. I thought I had checked it before and it was the same. Could be because something bent with the chassis 🤣 Glad you liked the video and agreed with my conclusion!
First off, love your channel, playfulness, and clever editing. Also love how you include your son! Secondly, I think you've thoroughly convinced me the HBX ravage will be a great choice foe a fun reliable basher for home and the skatepark. New to the hobby, I have a 144001 buggy, but want something more suited for bashing. What batteries would you recommend for the HBX 16889a pro?
Thanks man!!! Yes the 168898a pro is an unbeatable RC! The WL toys are cool, but just don’t cut it for me. I really don’t have a battery that fits in there. Honestly the stock batteries they come with aren’t too bad I’ll use these here and just strap them to the chassis brace. amzn.to/3WC01MD Have you seen the video where I widened and lengthened my 16889? It gives it a much bigger battery tray.
Awesome video, however you don't show the difference between the two visually which makes it hard to decide which one to choose. After rebuilding the two what is your opinion?
Thanks. Basically it comes down to durability and ground handling, the hbx is better. For speed and air control, the HyperGo wins, but it’s hard to land any jumps with it. Ultimately I prefer the hbx.
Awesome video man. Yeah, you have to replace the shocks on the MJX. I went with some mid-range (~$20 a pair) aftermarket shocks and it’s solid. The biggest issue are the diffs in the MJX. I have upgraded metal diff pieces (pretty sure they’re HBX) coming tomorrow…should solve that problem
A straight line ability test would be cool too (at speed). Some rc's I find hard to keep them going in a straight line after they get going, or actually hit a ramp and not completely miss it, etc....can be a major letdown when finally getting that long awaited rc...I found the 16889a pro was just ok, mjx in most videos look to drive exceptionally straight (1/14 & 1/16), although I don't own one...I'm nervous about my 2997a that will be here in a couple days
Having a Wltoys 124019 my first rc and already modded/upgraded with led lights, bigger wheels, 15t pinion, brushless. Ordered yesterday a HBX 16889a Pro my second rc.. I'm curious 👋
the new 124008 has that silly battery clip too, worse is the steering arm is at the front of the non-bay, so when your battery slips it ends up messing with your steering but you can run a 200mm velcro strap longways, loop it around the battery clip to anchor it, and wrap it around your battery, then clip your battery in. strap takes a bit of the height slack too
I’ve had the Hyper Go HM16 for about 3 weeks now and it is psychotic crazy fast and MAYBE a hair tougher than the HBX (maybe not) but as awesome as it is it does not handle as well as the HBX. The black body on the HM16 is bad ass though.
Great comparison highlighting strengths and bashing styles. Would you say the HBX18890A is the new upgraded version on the 18889a pro? Haven’t seen any vids comparing the two.
They’re slightly different from what I’ve seen. The 16890a is the brushless version of the 16890, which is very similar to the 16889 lol. They’re just making as many 1/16 scales as they can lol
Hi Sir, I just received my first MJX hyper go, put of the box after charging and testing different battery, it won’t run when put on the floor, hesitates with cracking noise but goes instantly if I hold it up and wheels not touching the ground. Is it damage?
Would the Dif in the hex fit in the hyper go?!?!? That would be epic! What would it be like to put the electronics from the hyper go (or similar speed) into the hyper go? Thanks so much for your awesome tests! I have big RCs, (even an xmcxx) but I always have 1/16 near me in a bag for spontaneous fun!
They do, but you have to swap over the HyperGo diff cups though as the HG axles are thicker. Glad you like the video! I’ve got bigger RCs too but my biggest is a 6s Kraton. Still love my 1/16 scales also!
I have a 903A and I put a 3S in it and it does the same thing it's like it's fighting against itself. Sometimes when I give it all of the beans it just locks up completely and does front flips. I'm trying to decide if I wanted to try to put a better ESC in it... But I'm also thinking about buying a big rock lol decisions decisions
If I remember Ill let you know if Hobbywing QuicRun 16BL30 30A Brushless ESC works out it should be here any day. Other things I ordered on same day came last week. After getting a Granite I was surprised how much I still love the 1/16. I think I understand why Evan has a bunch of RC's on a shelf behind him I was dreaming about but uses these cheaper cars so much more often now.😁 Granite is fantastic, Arrma is great but I only bought it as I found a deal. What i actually wanted was the Team Associated MT10 so I could have a centre diff. I will always wonder what it would be like 🥲
Big rock is shipping tomorrow! I shattered the bottom steering linkage on the 903 today...I figure it will be atleast a week or 2 until I can get parts to fix that🤣
Another great video!! 👍 Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of the truck/truggy bodies?!? How about a body-swap how-to video? I have a vision of the UDIRC Beetle body on the 16889, but no clue where to begin... whatchya think?!?!
Thanks! I have plans to do a body swap on a certain specific car type truck hybrid thing in two videos from now (I think). Haven’t decided on a body just yet though!
I bought the cheapest body I could find for my granite, I mean cheap and just made it fit. Literally I had no body specs beyond it said 1/10. I did message to ask but I am impatient. After doing that I could make anything fit I reckon......at best it was a 1/12 body :)
I would fix those ramps with for example a double backflip ramp on the other side so that your RC cars do not hit a solid "wall" or "pole" when coming from the wrong side.
Yes you can! Just don’t get the newer 3s model as that one you cannot slow down. (Unless they changed it) that model number is 16890sa, so you should still be ok with this one 👍👍
Minor detail- the MJX lights are turned on with a side button on the RC. They are super functional as far as stock lights go, IMO. And 9:07 for the super awesomest Max jumps! Priceless! Keep on rockin'!
I really wish that my HBX 16889 had a seperate RX/ESC then I would have put the receiver in my MJX Hyper Go but now I am stuck having to save up some R's for a Dumborc TX/RX. Anyhoo I think the MJX will be on a whole new level of fun with the Gyro that comes with the Dumborc.
Ya I wish so too, however, if you haven’t caught my newest video yet, I have a link in that video description to an even cheaper radio. Like around half the price of dumbo. Just no gyro
i got the flyhal fc600, but i think I would have got the mjx hyper go just for the 3s compat out the box. I have not seen your vid yet. I also ordered a hobbywing 30amp to let me run 3s, and then I was going to use the controller/receiver out of my granite in it........but I will just get another DumboRC receiver (cuz they are tiny and its 6 channel avc and lighting built in, crazy)for my dumbo I bought for granite. (not fitted yet) Oh can you tell me, does the destroyer(the orange/white one) short course body you have fit directly on the 16889? id like a truck body. Hi Max
Sounds awesome!!! Yes the destroyer body should fit, but you also nee the rear body post. That body only uses one post in the rear. The 16889 has a place for that single post to mount. Max says hi!
I just mentioned the destroyer body as it was the closest one i could see you had that was similar to Flyhal FC600 style. Now this is interesting as the Flyhal FC600 does have 2 rear body posts just like the 16889 you have. I am sure they wont just fit, be way too easy........I will take the plunge and find the cheapest pickup style body and make it fit. I was hoping they would be the same and you would say all the 16889 type chassis bodies are perfect fits.......well with exception of hyper go. I know in one of your videos you said you like to see bigger Amp ESC's to try 3s. I picked the 30 amp Hobbywing because everything I read says it does 3s no problem.......I guess I will soon know. My main reason was how little space there is in a 16889 chassis so smaller is good. Just need to get rid of a Tamiya style plug off it when it comes. I really hope it works, because it cost twice as much as the 50-60amp ones I was also considering but they were bigger. Returning goods to China is pointless. Not much room to play in the FC600 style body although I do love the low slung look and it is very stable.....until it rolls 20 times usually through a error....car error not me Oh I also am waiting for a heatsink for the FC600 motor, I am hoping it all works out, buying from China is a chore after Amazon Prime. Max keep practising, in no time at all you will be jumping higher, further and perfectly landing with more grace than your Dad. Make sure you demand extra batteries charged in advance. Good Luck😉 PS I am glad the 16889 sort of won, my FC600 is pretty much the same I am sure. Now I can have less buyers regret and concentrate on making it a 3s machine with blood sweat and maybe even tears.
Yes everything you said is spot on! Max keeps practicing and he’s getting better and better! More grace than me though?? Come on!! 🤣🤣 ok ya probably lol!!
I have another question if you have the vehicles and the time to compare. It seems to me now (after visit to skate park, my first) that the FC600 does have all the sexy important bits but actually has the 16890 chassis and not 16889 chassis. So what makes it have less ride height and can I easily change it? Shocks shorter? Is a shock swap all that's needed? You have been crazily jumping both, give me your thoughts please. After skate park jumping/learning visit I became aware of the ride height difference, until then I thought the bodies were only difference oh and tyre tread pattern. (lots of reviews have said as much) Suggestions other than bigger wheels as I have considered that but i am not into the bigger wheels just from looks.......I am sorry . Look great on your cars though! ..............(remembers yanks are armed) 😛 I might increase wheels a small tad. 😁
That’s interesting. I’m pretty sure my 16890 and my 16889s have the same chassis. What seems different? As far as ride height differences, it’s probably either shocks or the mounting holes they chose to put the shocks in that can be adjusted.
I think they have updated the ESC on the HBX, I bought mine about a month ago here in the UK and it won't run on 3S past half throttle. I'm uploading a video about it as running it on 3s was half the reason I bought it.
Ya those esc are not rated for 3s tgoigh it works ok sometimes if you feather the throttle. Really need the new 16890SA model to run 3s glitch free. These are still awesome trucks and a relatively cheap esc upgrade will have you all set.
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks for the reply. Man I tried everything and just couldn't get it to work properly, not even once. You're right, these trucks are really good, I find myself bashing it more than my MT-10. Will take a look at the 16890SA too, thanks for the headsup.
Where can i buy the two upper screws for the wheelie bar for the hbx? S161 dont have any at local hobby stores. Wondering if i can buy a bunch of them verse buying 6 for like 7$ On ebay?
Hmmm. Ya know I’m really not sure. The plastic is soft enough where you should be able to use a standard wood screw nearly the same diameter (or sheet metal screw if that’s what it is). Most hardware stores should have something close enough. Ordering just screws from hbx would also be expensive.
Thanks for the brilliant comparison. do you have any suggestions for reducing the bounce on the MJX? I've skateparked mine a few times and it's always been very bouncy when landing hard.
@@DerbyCityRC I am still stuck at 2S only, but that is great for the HBX, because as you said, it sort of rejected the 3S in it with the standard electronics.
@@DerbyCityRC I am actually forced to build my own Lipo batteries. After the South African airline crash into the ocean a few years ago that was blamed on exploding batteries, instead of the arms they were illegally transporting on a passenger airliner, it is really hard to get an online supplier who is able to ship batteries to South Africa. I am actually quite lucky that I found one or by the most two who were willing to try to send me these lipo cells.
At the end when you are comparing the differential metal, I am curious if you could tell if they could be interchangeable? I think today the front diff on my hyper go has broken, and I would put an HBX one in it if it would fit. Don't suppose you have these parts laying around still? ;)
I don’t have them laying around at the moment, but I am ALMOST positive that you can swap the diffs, but you do need to take them apart and transfer over the HyperGo diff cups. The hyper go axles don’t fit into the hbx cups
I do not know which transmitter you got with the MJX Hyper Go but for me the biggest let-down is the really low grade transmitter that comes with it. Compared to the HBX 16889A and Pro that has speed trim, steering trim and steering dual rate, the MJX transmitter is really basic. The HBX transmitter also is a lot more responsive than the MJX, especially in reverse where these is a huge "flat spot" in response time with the Hyper Go.
I just traded off my obsolete Dramada Truggie collection. Had those been available 8 years ago, I would have went that route. I prefer the 1/10 scale vehicles now. I wish the bodies were a little better looking than they are. Still better than a Dromida ever was.
Great comparison video! I'm not a fan of the Hyper Go shocks. I put aftermarket shocks with 70 weight on my Hyper GO an it's less bouncy. The metal on the HBX diffs definitely look better quality. Will the HBX diff fit in the MJX? What grease do you put in the diff when you rebuild them? All my other RCs have sealed diffs so I use silicone oil but since these are unsealed I'm unsure of what grease to use.
Thanks! If I ever replace the chassis I’ll probably put better shocks on it lol. The diffs look like they would swap over, but you would need to use the HyperGo diff cups. I just use Red n Tacky. Im sure there’s a better option but it works lol. amzn.to/3XoQ8AG
Does either model offer an adjustment to tune down the throttle for power? I have 2 young boys and I’m thinking of these as their first hobby grade rc’s.
From my experience when it comes to 1:10 scale, the decent ones start at $330, like the granite here: bit.ly/arrmagranite It’s probably my favorite true 1/10 scale.
@@DerbyCityRC thanks man! Damn that's a good lil chunk of change. I keep trying to see for around 200 but realllly not finding crap. Or I find generic stuff that's weird name. Is brushed motors bad or should I save up and just bite the bullet and buy a good 300 dollar c as r
@waragainstmyself1159 I wouldn’t go brushed, they get hot, usually underpowered, just not as fun (to me anyway). There’s a great 1/12 scale I like and recommend and is probably my favorite car under $330. Check this out and see what you think. ruclips.net/video/9mef2vZL-eY/видео.htmlsi=Z7MzYzse2amQO7nY
For best result please change all the gear using hbx gear. All hbx gear is compatible to mjx. Only thing you ni to swap is the diff cup using mjx diff cup on hbx whole diff system.
To add, you can get an upgraded diff for the Hyper Go, but the standard diff is its weakness. Im going to go with the Hyper as i want 3s, and changing the HBX is a hassle as it has the receiver and esc in one unit
Yup HyperGo came out with an updated diff after this video, which I believe is actually the hbx diffs with the HyperGo outdrive cups lol. Also the newest 1/16 hbx, the 16890SA is now 3s capable and has a separate receiver. But yup can’t go wrong with the HyperGo either. 👍👍
@ityRC Oh nice, may grab one next month, they are so cheap i can buy a car a month without having to think about it. But yeah just ordered the HyperGo Brushless for about £85 off Banggood. I prefer the shape and colour to the HBX/Tracer. I expect great thngs because i was very impressed by the Brushed Tracer on 2s, nevermind a brushless on 3s with the Hyper (and i prefer the truck shape, like the baby bro to my Xmaxx). Thanks m8
@@146msi Its amazing, HBX can't compare. its fast on 2s and insane on 3s. i recommend going 3s, just make sure lipo fits if you don't go with official lipos. Nothing to upgrade tbh.
Just found your channel and have been loving the bashing videos! Quick question since I just picked up a mjx. Would it be worth it to buy a hbx diff gear set for the mjx since it has better metal or if it even fits?
Thanks!! Yes I would probably keep a gear set from an hbx. I know it drops right in, and I’m pretty sure the gear pitch and teeth number are the same so shouldn’t be an issue!
Well if you’re ok with the speed of the Flyhal, I think it’s a better platform being larger and having the center diff. The 16889a pro is the most durable of them all though.
I saw the video I think in some aspects. You're right, and some expect you are wrong. Steering wise the HBX is better and handle better. I like how you show the hypergo. Being unplugged and you keep plugging it back in. But what I don't like is that you did not show the HBX You didn't show how many times you had to change out that battery. You only get 5 to 7 minutes of run time on the HBX. On a fully charge battery And I didn't see you on the hypergo. Press the ESC button five times.
This HBX isn’t like the 3100a. This one has a decent run time even Roth that smaller battery. 15+ minutes. Same with the 16890 models. In fact it’s almost exactly the same MAH battery as what that HyperGo comes with 1000 vs 1050. Also, this HyperGo model does not have an esc settings for pushing the button 5 times, so that’s irrelevant. That’s only on the brand new H14BM as far as I know.
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks for your reply. I was considering: MJX 14210 HYPER GO 1/14 HBX 16889A Pro 1/16 New to the RC Car game but built drones. I think this is around budget or less on banggood. No coupons damn it :) Would these be a good option and robust. I like lipo but dont have a great run period and not a good idea for use for kids cars
Opinion: mjx has better design, nice look and is vefy much a complete car with all the upgrades needed. It is very sloppy in the steering and the esc is laggy and not so responsive. Hbx (mine came with heatsink) is a very nice simple basher, badly designed battery holder but still the lipos last 20 min (1000 mAh), the clips keep go down and fall out ALL THE TIME! It is lighter, simpler and (in my opinion) very durable. Mjx with upgraded electronics is a beast, hbx as it is with a pack of clips as side, needs no hop hups (very nice steering and responsive esc). And is amazing
I built that one. I’ve got a video on it from like 3 years ago. I did recently find a decent ramp you can buy without it being $300 plus. www.kc-rc.com/collections/bashing-ramp
Hi Evan! Yesterday for the 2nd time the teeth of the input gear of the rear differential broke (HBX 16889). But spareparts always include the gears of the inner differential. Do you know where I can get only the input gear?
ThTs weird I don’t think I’ve ever broken. A diff input pinion lol. Best thing would be to look in your wonders manual if you still have it and order from Haiboxing-hobby.com. If you don’t have the manual, just email them at that website and tell the. What you need. They should respond. 👍👍
@@DerbyCityRC Thanx. I asked them. They told me if i need the input gear i have to buy the complete set including all differential gears, which will never break. That's so annoying...
Thanks Tony! Really glad you Like the channel. I try to keep it fun even if you’re not really into RC, but come on back in when you’re ready!! 😎😃
totally agree, Evan doesnt get nearly enough credit as he should here
Thanks man! 😊😃
My favorite Rc channel. An example for all to follow.
I agree!
Thanks Man!!! 😀
Thanks!! 😀😀
yep
Thanks!
I ve been browsing the internet for reviews for the past week and each one of them makes me change my mind !!! 🤪
Haha! Like between these two?
@@DerbyCityRC all of them. And I eventually ended buying the mjx mew4 m162 for 60 eur and I m totally thrilled by this choice, that thing is a little rocket.
I’ve never reviewed that one but I’ve heard good things. Glad you’re happy with your choice!!
I've placed and cancelled two orders in the last 12hrs. I'm just going to have to buy one and not watch any more review videos until i've got it 😂
🤣🤣
Today was actually my very first day that I enjoyed my HBX 16889-A Pro as much as I enjoy the HBX 16889-A and the MJX Hyper Go after sorting out the binding sideshafts on the rear drivetrain.
Yes!! Finally, so happy for you lol.
How did you do it?
Still waiting for the answer... 😂
I agree with all of that!!
👍👍
@@DerbyCityRC got my HBX a while ago and am going to throw a brushless motor in, what 3s battery are you guys using that fits these lil monsters?
Actually I haven’t really looked yet 🤣
I just strap a slightly bigger one to the upper chassis brace with a Velcro strap.
@@LGHTSPD675 Which tires?
Use 3M dual lock for MJX to use 3s ovonic short lipo or any battery modification. Super easy modification and has been solid for bashing the car. No need strap.
Good idea. Thanks!
Sorry fellas, but what is 3M dual lock exactly please?!?? (Maybe some kinda tape or Velcro type maybe? Bc so far my results have been EXACTLY like Evan's here, but none the less consistent & super on point/same w the 2 trucks Evan's comparing here and I'd love to understand this detail on my MJX's batt security/best fit w bigger battery options that otherwise wouldn't fit properly...)
Thanks Evan/& REALLY everyone here on these 2 current best 16 scale beasts. And mega thx to you guys for posting such mega informative findings/possible solutions to help both brands with the very few cons that come along eventually w both brands here & how to remedy/future proof em better!!!!!!!
Glad we can all help each other!
This is dual lock. Kinda like Velcro on steroids: amzn.to/3KUOapd
I have the mjx h16bm man. I definitely recommend it, you wanna refill the shocks with some good oil and rebuild the diffs with lithium grease for 3s or you will explode the plastic having gone through 6 sets now. An aluminum cased diff would seal the deal
Hopefully an aluminum diff case will be released!!
Just got one of those hyper go brushless cars. It's insane. Throw it in a backpack and go anywhere.
Yes they’re awesome!
I’ll see what I can do to incorporate this stuff into some videos. You’re right that would def be help for some people 👍
I have since made this short video here for front flips: ruclips.net/user/shortsd2DopEG-nZw?si=EoXNWM-IEY7MWtvd
great comparison! Your channel is the reason why a bought HBX. Now I have 3! from cheapest through pro and I customized the pro for all metal parts. Turned out metal gave the car a better handle at turns in high speed also feels better at braking. keep it up love your videos.
Awesome!!! Thanks and so glad you like the channel!! 👍👍
Excellent video! One thing not mentioned is that the MJX is quite a bit heavier than the HBX. This is probably why it doesn’t handle as well overall.
Thanks! You could be right about that!
I feel like every week I see a new rebrand of one of these lol
Very much appreciate the comment!!
Yup! Even after going from my 6s Kraton, I still have fun with these things!!
@@nikitaromeo8837Can't go wrong with a Granite 😮totally AWESOME truck 👌 🇬🇧🤠🤟🇺🇲💯
AWESOME REVIEW!!! YOU HELPED ME AND MY SON PICK THE BEST CHOICE!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU
You’re very welcome!!!
Good video. Also your observations on the differential differences are spot on and confirmed by long term reviews of others. The differential is a weak point on the hypergo and regularly requires maintenance in reviews.
Thanks! Luckily the newest models have much better gears in them!
@@DerbyCityRCwhat’s the model number for the newer version, literally torn between the two for a Christmas present
This one here: amzn.to/40TB5Cg
Here is the review if it. Very fun car. It’s more expensive, but reflected in the quality: ruclips.net/video/8l5ghStObnE/видео.htmlsi=LkwEY_fXFaygOjzF
How and when do you maintenance the differential?
@johnmachter40 really you should do it before running the car the first time. Make sure they’re greased or oiled. Most of these cheaper ones won’t hold an oil though. So could go with a thick grease to help the tires from “diffing out” too much. For the most part after that, unless the grease seems to be leaking out, you could just open it back up when there’s an issue. Everyone is different on their maintenance though.
Wow, amazing throwing skills. The body aligned great with the chassis on that throw
It’s a gift really! 🤣
That part literally just played as I was scrolling these comments. My thoughts exactly.
👍👍
Evan! Alan here (Alan who? Who cares!)
I have a tryout suggestion for you- combed thru your vids up to a year back and I don't think you've reviewed it-
Laegendary Thunder.
Thanks Alan!! I will look into that. I’ve seen it around before but I’ll have a closer look 👍👍
This video came at perfect timing. I have been debating these two cars and the HBX 16809a Pro for my son. Looks like HBX will be a more reliable fit for us
I believe you’re correct. Glad this helped!!
👍👍
Great vids, lots of info and very entertaining! Just pulled the trigger on the HBX16890A for me and my 6 year old, seems to just be the newest model of the 889A. Great channel, FYI you remind me of Jake Johnson, you guys might be related.
Thanks man! Yes the 16890a should be very comparable!
People tell me I look like jake Johnson all the time lol. Even way back when “new girl” first started lol
Really good content there, as ever. Fun and informative, and good music! I love how the landings and the music are in synch! Great work, keep it up!
Thanks!! Glad you enjoy the videos and music!!
That may be part of the problem for sure!
Cool! Happy to find this channel!
Awesome! Happy to have you!!
Lol you got yourself a new subscriber with that perfectly straight line! Great video!
Haha! Thanks!
Could be because something bent with the chassis 🤣
Glad you liked the video and agreed with my conclusion!
I also was going to mention I noticed that.
Honestly the stock batteries they come with aren’t too bad I’ll use these here and just strap them to the chassis brace. amzn.to/3WC01MD
Have you seen the video where I widened and lengthened my 16889?
Sweet! Let me know if the hbx diffs drop right in. Pretty sure you will need the mjx diff cups. Otherwise it looks like it will work.
I'd like to know how that goes as well . I'm thinking of doing the same thing.
I'm interested to know how your diff upgrade goes... Also can you post a link to your shock upgrade? Cheers!
Let me know if it works?! I’ve been trying to get confirmation!
I would also like info on the diff swap and shocks
Great review! I appreciate you putting your toys through the punishment for the sake of your viewers!
Absolutely! Thanks and you’re welcome!
The madman is back with another great video ‼️👍👍🦾🦾
You bet!!!
Thanks for watchin!!
Love these comparisons! Good humor also . Nothing really ever can beat hbx pro awesome truck
Thanks!!
I agree! The little pro is still king of the 1/16!
You are the best Rc channel for sure I’m a fan and long time listener keep on keeping on !!
Thanks!!
Love the video. I hope MJX release a 1/12 scale or bigger.
I hope so too!
Would be awesome! Their own version of the 2995! 🤘👍
Having a Wltoys 124019 my first rc and already modded/upgraded with led lights, bigger wheels, 15t pinion, brushless. Ordered yesterday a HBX 16889a Pro my second rc.. I'm curious 👋
Awesome!! That model cannot disappoint!!
the new 124008 has that silly battery clip too, worse is the steering arm is at the front of the non-bay, so when your battery slips it ends up messing with your steering
but you can run a 200mm velcro strap longways, loop it around the battery clip to anchor it, and wrap it around your battery, then clip your battery in. strap takes a bit of the height slack too
They finally came out with a better system and a retrofit for these. Hopefully it would fit the 124008 also!
I’ve had the Hyper Go HM16 for about 3 weeks now and it is psychotic crazy fast and MAYBE a hair tougher than the HBX (maybe not) but as awesome as it is it does not handle as well as the HBX. The black body on the HM16 is bad ass though.
Certainly can’t go wrong either way. I wonder how the mjx electronics would do in the hbx!!??
I agree that black body is insane!
Great video I bought a pair for my lads based on your review thanks very much 👌
Hi Sir, I just received my first MJX hyper go, put of the box after charging and testing different battery, it won’t run when put on the floor, hesitates with cracking noise but goes instantly if I hold it up and wheels not touching the ground. Is it damage?
That stinks! Make sure the throttle is turned up on the remote but yes it kinda sounds like it may be a faulty unit 😢😢
😊
you could write an article to a scientific journal for this HBX!!good job mate!
Thanks dude!!!
Yup mine did all of that stuff!
I’d say new esc AND a big rock lol
Do it!! 😆
If I remember Ill let you know if Hobbywing QuicRun 16BL30 30A Brushless ESC works out it should be here any day. Other things I ordered on same day came last week. After getting a Granite I was surprised how much I still love the 1/16. I think I understand why Evan has a bunch of RC's on a shelf behind him I was dreaming about but uses these cheaper cars so much more often now.😁
Granite is fantastic, Arrma is great but I only bought it as I found a deal. What i actually wanted was the Team Associated MT10 so I could have a centre diff.
I will always wonder what it would be like 🥲
Big rock is shipping tomorrow! I shattered the bottom steering linkage on the 903 today...I figure it will be atleast a week or 2 until I can get parts to fix that🤣
Awesome!! Ya it can take a while to get those parts 🤣
Just the comparison I was looking for! Thank you. 👍
You’re welcome!
Another great video!! 👍
Is it just me, or is anyone else sick of the truck/truggy bodies?!?
On the HBX u still prefer the bigger tires in your other videos, the stock, or have u found another good in between?
It’s fun both ways. For jumping and doing tricks, the bigger tires. For running and sliding around the street, definitely the stock tires.
I would fix those ramps with for example a double backflip ramp on the other side so that your RC cars do not hit a solid "wall" or "pole" when coming from the wrong side.
What fun would that be? 😅
Thats all part of my durability testing lol!
🤣
Can you reduce the speed in HBX 16889a PRO? so that a 5-year-old can handle it or is it better to buy a slower one without pro?
Yes you can! Just don’t get the newer 3s model as that one you cannot slow down. (Unless they changed it) that model number is 16890sa, so you should still be ok with this one 👍👍
Minor detail- the MJX lights are turned on with a side button on the RC. They are super functional as far as stock lights go, IMO.
And 9:07 for the super awesomest Max jumps! Priceless!
Keep on rockin'!
Yup I found that out like the day after I posted that video 🤣🤣
Thanks, Max is killin it!!!
superb comparison 😍..... I'm having hypergo 16209. Just wanted to know hbx shell can fit to 16209?
Thanks! It probably can but will need some sort of modification like new holes for body posts.
thanks for comparing these two
You’re welcome 👍
I really wish that my HBX 16889 had a seperate RX/ESC then I would have put the receiver in my MJX Hyper Go but now I am stuck having to save up some R's for a Dumborc TX/RX. Anyhoo I think the MJX will be on a whole new level of fun with the Gyro that comes with the Dumborc.
Ya I wish so too, however, if you haven’t caught my newest video yet, I have a link in that video description to an even cheaper radio. Like around half the price of dumbo. Just no gyro
This video is great and quite an insightful comparison between the two brands. I'm now inclined to buy HBX.
i got the flyhal fc600, but i think I would have got the mjx hyper go just for the 3s compat out the box. (not fitted yet)
Oh can you tell me, does the destroyer(the orange/white one) short course body you have fit directly on the 16889? id like a truck body.
Not much room to play in the FC600 style body although I do love the low slung look and it is very stable.....until it rolls 20 times usually through a error....car error not me
Oh I also am waiting for a heatsink for the FC600 motor, I am hoping it all works out, buying from China is a chore after Amazon Prime.
Max keep practising, in no time at all you will be jumping higher, further and perfectly landing with more grace than your Dad. Make sure you demand extra batteries charged in advance. Good Luck😉
PS I am glad the 16889 sort of won, my FC600 is pretty much the same I am sure.
(lots of reviews have said as much)
Suggestions other than bigger wheels as I have considered that but i am not into the bigger wheels just from looks.......I am sorry . Look great on your cars though! ..............(remembers yanks are armed) 😛
I might increase wheels a small tad.
I gess that going with a thiker shok oils could fix that. Try a 700cst oil and write us your opinion
Bro, I just love your driving skills and I enjoyed this video even I watched it more than 5 times❤❤❤
Thanks man!!! Hope you like my other vids too!! 😃
I ordered individual lipo cells to build my own batteries so the small HBX's battery tray does not bother me too much.
Sweet!
I found a nice solution to the small battery tray in my video from yesterday.
Your idea is sweet too!
@@DerbyCityRC I am still stuck at 2S only, but that is great for the HBX, because as you said, it sort of rejected the 3S in it with the standard electronics.
Yes for sure!
Wow I hadn’t heard about that. Sorry it’s so difficult for you to get them!
Hi, I put the wheels of the HBX 903 on the MJX, as you showed for the HBX 16889 and it does some nice back flip on 2S.
Awesome!! No cogging or throttle delay with them on 2s?
@@DerbyCityRC I didn't notice but it's my 4 year old son who does backflip with it, so I'll ask him for his opinion on the subject 🤔😉
Coool video man! I will buy the hyper go. Do you know if the traxxas 3S Lipo 1400mah fit? the dimensions are 88m 20m 35m.
It’s hard to say because of that weird battery tray
I love your content... It has got me back into rc cars..
That’s awesome, happy to hear that!!
"A perfectly straight line" hahahaha Such a great comparison video. Love the channel!
Haha lol.
Thanks!!
I just traded off my obsolete Dramada Truggie collection. Had those been available 8 years ago, I would have went that route. I prefer the 1/10 scale vehicles now. I wish the bodies were a little better looking than they are. Still better than a Dromida ever was.
Awesome! The technology has moved pretty fast!!
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks for the info!
I use Lucas White lithium grease for the diffs
Can you please link the shocks you used? cheers!
@@MisterJDee Thanks. That's what I ended up using.
Does either model offer an adjustment to tune down the throttle for power? I have 2 young boys and I’m thinking of these as their first hobby grade rc’s.
The Hbx has a full speed adjustment knob, so may be the better choice.
The mjx you have the option for 70% power or 100% power.
What about brushless? What are my cheapest options to get a decent 1/10 hobby grade brushless
From my experience when it comes to 1:10 scale, the decent ones start at $330, like the granite here: bit.ly/arrmagranite
It’s probably my favorite true 1/10 scale.
If only I could drive half as well as your kids! Another great video. Thanks guys. 👍🤪
Haha! Just keep at it! Thanks!!
Dude I just looked at the review video looking for a speed test lol.
And here it is haha
I got 26.4 on the 90a pro with the big tires
Haha nice!
That’s good speed for that little thing.
Super cool!
Great new place for RCs and kids!
Thanks!! We agree 👍👍
Most important question of this! Can the HBX diff fit in the Hyper go?
I’m dying to figure out if the diffs are swap-able?
This for sure.
For best result please change all the gear using hbx gear. All hbx gear is compatible to mjx. Only thing you ni to swap is the diff cup using mjx diff cup on hbx whole diff system.
This is what it looked like. Can’t believe I didn’t check that for sure, but it was really late and it was cold out there 🤣
To add, you can get an upgraded diff for the Hyper Go, but the standard diff is its weakness.
Thanks m8
@Xbot4Life you’re welcome bro!!!
@@Xbot4Life Did you order the 16208? How it goes for you?
Have you ordered other upgrades for it?
@@146msi Its amazing, HBX can't compare. its fast on 2s and insane on 3s. i recommend going 3s, just make sure lipo fits if you don't go with official lipos.
Nothing to upgrade tbh.
You need to do a review on the Lagendary 1/10 thunder rc truck
Agreed!
Ill Look into that one thanks!
I would love to know if the diffs are interchangeable. Could be and easy swap or buy the replacements from the other.
Other people hve tried and say they are. Just need to swap out and use the mjx diff cups:
Just found your channel and have been loving the bashing videos!
Quick question since I just picked up a mjx. Would it be worth it to buy a hbx diff gear set for the mjx since it has better metal or if it even fits?
Thanks!!
Yes I would probably keep a gear set from an hbx. I know it drops right in, and I’m pretty sure the gear pitch and teeth number are the same so shouldn’t be an issue!
Hey derby rc if you see this have you messed with the shocks since?? Thinking about going thicker and dont know what to try
Awesome comparison!! I will stick with my 16889A Pro but the other is a close second.
Thanks!I agree!
Getting curious about the mjx electronics in the hbx! 🤔
@@DerbyCityRC I would love to see u combine the two trucks
I am considering this 👍👍
Did y'all end up combining them?
No, but still might. I ended up doing the 16889/901a hybrid. Did you see that?
ruclips.net/video/-9qjYziR1kw/видео.htmlsi=EoOobGwxbqGN1wJV
Great Video! Careful with the crazy neighbors! :D
Thanks!
Yup gotta keep an eye on him!
Any chance you will be doing a review on HBX 903A?
I’d like to, but I have a few others I’m buying right now. If Banggood happens to get one soon, they may send me one to review.
One of these or the flyhal fc610? Im bying my first rc car and I dont know which one to get? They all costs pretty much the same in my country.
Well if you’re ok with the speed of the Flyhal, I think it’s a better platform being larger and having the center diff. The 16889a pro is the most durable of them all though.
Just what I was looking for so I subbed n can’t wait for other great content!!!
Awesome, thanks!!!
hey i putting 16889a shocks on 16208 what oils should i use on jumping grass and grass running thanks
I’d probably start with something between 50-80wt and see how you like it.
cool video hbx 16889a pro looks cool same with the hyper go
Thanks! Yes they’re both pretty awesome!!
I got thr 16889a pro... mine has heatsink and the differential are the same as the mjx, i do not understanf
Subbed... Love the humor and quick but enough depth for my level... Thank you... Oh... And not pretentious, calling everything "epic"...
Thanks! Glad you think it’s all epic!! 😃
Great video. Keep up the good work
Thanks!!
MJX 14210 HYPER GO - does this use the same poor quality metal on the gears?
Looking to buy 2 cars for myself and young boy. Recommendations please?
No the 14210 has higher quality gears.
What’s your budget and preferred size for each car?
@@DerbyCityRC Thanks for your reply. I was considering:
MJX 14210 HYPER GO 1/14
HBX 16889A Pro 1/16
New to the RC Car game but built drones. I think this is around budget or less on banggood. No coupons damn it :)
Would these be a good option and robust. I like lipo but dont have a great run period and not a good idea for use for kids cars
Good video!! I have a question. Which is the better, mjx 16208 or wltoy 144002?
If you’re a basher, then the mjx. If you like speed runs and track racing, it’s the WLtoys. I’d be mjx all the way cuz that’s more my style
Great vid as always👍
Thanks!
Where did u buy yours man please lmk
Which one?
Where does everyone keep getting these rc teuck ramps from??
I built that one.
I’ve got a video on it from like 3 years ago.
I did recently find a decent ramp you can buy without it being $300 plus.

That is annoying! Does it come with the driveshaft maybe? That doesn’t make sense!
the new hyper go 14210 came out, definitely check it out! 👍👍
Should be in the mail this week! 😃
@@DerbyCityRC real nice! Yeah that's a heck of a truck
@shortschannel6576 can’t wait to try mine!
why do i feel like he is yelling at us ? lol great video
I’m a loud talker, and get even louder when I’m excited about something 🤣
I also have 4 kids so yelling is just a thing around here lol
Thanks!
Would mjx be less flippy with hbx tires?
Possibly. I haven’t tried that yet. Also could change the shock positioning to lower the ride height a bit
