Every channel released a review on the launch day of this wheel but still the best detailed review comes from Barry. No surprise, keep it up Barry!
As a single monitor guy, I can tell you those clutches in dual axis mode are amazing for look left/right.
Exactly what I plan on using them for. I do the same on my Fantec APM. Even though I have an ultrawide, I prefer using the paddles for left/right. Plus I'm not gonna ever use clutches for a standing start anyway, just for pulling out of the pits.
@@PanHyridae i have the same idea, i have an 49 ultrawide to, but still cant see cars driving next to me.
I read “As a single mother”
Oh man… I didn’t even think of that! May not use it for games where dual clutch is helpful… but I’ll definitely use it for games like Forza Horizon
still not able to config them on ACC to look L/R :/
Imagine you're a soldier returning from rehab after losing your legs in service to your country. Imagine how much fun it would be to be absolutely as competitive as anyone else, after a bit of practice, using this wheel! This paddle arrangement could be a life changer! Hooray for Fanatec!
alex zanardi lost his legs in a indy car accident, and he drove for bmw in the 2020 rolex 24 using this style setup and a hydraulic hand brake, i think that a league for wounded soldiers across the world would be awesome, and a great way to help with fundraising for some really good causes!!
Sf1000 thrustmaster wheel defaults to Accelerate and brake on clutch paddles if "phase" dial turned to 1 ....👍(3 is clutch mode)
Imagine how that great soldier would feel when that wheel fails (which it will) and FANATEC take forever to reply to his email for help or worse blame him for incorrect use.
Thanks much for the updated review of the new Fanatec Wheel Rim..!!! ;-) I appreciate the detail you consistently provide for our SIMracing community..!!! ;-)
Thank you for the indepth review of this nice wheel. Its always intersting to hear you talk and explain everything I want to know
Was waiting for this.. Thank you Sir Barry
I got mine and its fantastic! Love it!
Thank you for your videos Barry!
Greetings from Germany, Martin
Bad joke incoming: it is Fanatectastic
I'm playing ACC and can't decide weather to buy this or the F1 wheel they make? Any thoughts ?
Thanks for your view on the wheel Barry.
I have upgraded to this wheel from a P1 on a clubsport 2.5 and for a reasonable price does feel like a premium upgrade. I'm using the standard wheel mount and haven't noticed any flex and also use VR and the egonomics of this wheel are great for that application.
I finally got one of these. Barry's review takes on a whole new life when you own what he's reviewing. LOL
I dont buy hardware if he didnt recommend it.
Thanks for this review Barry. As someone who need the analogue paddles to accelerate and brake, it's great to see this function being reviewed in depth, really appreciate that, thank you :-)
Absolutely love your reviews. so much details 👍
Great review of a simracing product...again! and again! and again! Thx a lot Barry
nice review Barry, really enjoy your videos
Thank you very much for your in depth videos. I'm new to all this and learning alot.
Awesome review - earned my sub easily.
Amazing review. Always the best. Barry ur a king! Bought this thanks to You.
Awesome review and in my "to get" list for sure
Subscribed. awesome videos. lots of attention to detail. i actually set up my asr1 chassis using your video. couldn't have done it properly without you.
What a nice garage!!! good review!
Just a PSA- I got this wheel in today and it's phenomenal. I know some reviews point out it's more "plasticy" than a club sport wheel or a Podium wheelz but having some of those to compare it to this wheel easily holds it's own... Totally passable for a real car wheel and a joy to use... Actually much more comfortable than my Formula V2... Buy it!!!
The crazy part about it being "plasticy" is it actually helps the wheel give you more detail because of the light weight. I have almost every wheel rim from fanatec (expect the BMW gt wheel one day haha!) and this is my daily for all gt and formula style cars! I absolutely love it! I probably have over 1,000 hours on this rim and it has skipped a beat. My only gripe with it is the shifters but you get used to it. Just to much noise and throw but some people may like that.
Your review is finally here! My v2 is stuck in a warehouse somewhere still.
Twenty days to get my BMW GT2. Crazy slow.
Ugh this is bullshit fanatec does this. I have a 8 things shipping to USA from them only one item I had push back for months was the 7speed shifter. I just ordered this mclaren gt3 v2 like 4days ago. It says pre-order for Feb 19th 2021 but will see so far no date change but I know my luck ugh. Will update
Man, your voice is so great!!! hehehe another fantastic video, thanks for this!
thanks a lot for explaining the clutch configuration 👌🏽
Ordered mines in December and can’t wait for them to ship this month
its actualy quite incredible how they manage to add compatiblity for thoes who cant use there legs in such a simple yet effecive way
I have 2 guys in my nascar 2003 league that are disabled. No use of legs. They use a modified TSW wheel. I just sent them both this video. Very cool for the disabled to have this option since they have no use of there legs. BTW they are both fast on Ovals !
This wheel is perfect for them. The on wheel axis are a brilliant move by Fanatec and I'm glad your buddies have an option to race!
Thank you very much for this review, it's nice and talks about everything we need to know about the wheel. Good job!!!
Can't wait to get mine!
Congrats, i cant wait till my formula carbon comes
I wanted to buy it but it’s sold out 😩
@@grahamkelly8662 It will be back soon I am sure.
Great review! Thanks! I have one on pre-order, but the entire setup doesn't ship until the wheel is in stock, which is either 1 day or 30 days. The product page shows a different availability date than what my order page shows, and the date has changed a few times.
Fair winds and following seas to all.
47:25 Barry with all the cheat codes 💪🏻 Love it! 😂 Man is a genius 👏🏻
Always outstanding videos Barry. Appreciate the insight, getting mine in about a week or so. I love the V1 I have but the paddle shifter issues I had (double-shifting, skip shifting) made me put as a "display" on the wall.
Loving the long hair Barry!
Get this man to 100k!
Does anyone know if it's possible to change the middle selection switch mid race? So you could use dual clutch for the start but then use the paddles for brake bias afterwards?
Come on barry give us a sax video! You keep teasing us with it in the background lol.
He seems more happy doing this videos. ITS GREAT TO SEE
Is there alot of flex when you mount it with the original quick release onto a CSW base?
Does anyone know if they've fixed the issue where the clutches would be slighty engaged permantly after a bit of use? I have the V1 and I love it, but that is my one complain.
Hey Barry! My oled display stopped working after the third day of use! Very low torque. What can i do ?
Could you map both as identical clutches (adjusting biting), so pressing both when shifting up and down, instead of using a pedal clutch?
Does the srm usb coverter work this this wheel? Their site says v1 but doesnt mention v2. Being that they are the same, why wouldnt it work.
How can I remove the upper pin that holds the shifter pad? Would it work with tweezers? or does it have a thread
cheers!
can it be converted to USB like the v1 using simracing machines's usb conversion?
Not yet. They changed the circuit board. I believe Leo Bodnar is working on it. I hope he is.
If anyone knows him, please ask because I think a lot of people will want to get these for non-Fanatec DD wheelbases.
Hi sir :) is it possible to use the paddles for brake and accelerator consistently? Thanks
Is a simagic alpha review coming soon?
Anyone had issues with their wheel disconnecting from the DD wheelbase during races? I lose all button functions of the wheel and has to disconnect it and reconnect it to the base to make it work again. I am using the CSL quick release so only low torque mode.
Very thorough and well made review as usual. Do you know if I can use this with the v1 club sport base and still get some functionalities or it’s entirely useless?
Could anyone give me an advice, please ? I use the black analog paddles as BRAKE and THROTTLE, but they are a bit to hard to press
Should I try to bolt / screw a plate that comes out further, to give more leverage ?
The rocker type paddles are so you can up and down shift from either side, so if you're busy with your left hand on say a button box / other config settings such as pit strategy, you can still drive at optimum right handed only (or left obvs.). Absolutely cracking idea (imho), I can't wait to give mine a try (when it arrives)!!!
So e.g. to downshift with your right hand, you'd push the paddle away, instead of pulling towards and vice versa on the left, you can upshift by pushing.
Hi Barry or the guys would this be better then Fanatec CSL WRC Rally Wheel
I do not even have a rig put together but I am holding this gorgeous full-sized GT3 wheel in my hands right now and it is GLORIOUS! This, my first wheel, serves as my inspiration to eventually get my $10k rig built over time to put this baby to good use!
fuck it, frame that shit and tell people you got it straight out of a mclaren gt3 car XD

@@bruhroyale12123 ?
Great review once again Barry. I love my McLaren wheel but taking into account the QR required it's really not as cheap.
Curious what gloves you use as I definitely trust your opinion? Cheers
The good thing about the shifters: you can hold a beer in one hand and still shift up and down with the other hand 🍻
sold, needed a push to put my order through. thanks
@@PickledGopher Lmao
Does this wheel base work with the clubsport v1 ?
Quick question. Would the clubsport quick release be advisable using this wheel with a Clubsport v2.5 wheelbase?
there would really be no point unless you want to switch wheels quickly. the limit on the CSL “quick” release is 8nm which is how much your wheel base generates regardless. maybe some added stiffness? but not enough to validate an extra $100 when you could just get a clubsport series wheel at that point.
I got the quick release and I would say yes, it is worth it. It stiffens up the connection ever so much, but it's noticable. It's also on point if you have multiple wheels.
I‘m currently planning on upgrading my setup to a SIM Lab gt1 evo and HE Sprints. Can i just mount the sprints on the Pedal baseplate or do i have to buy the HE plate?
Sim lab has a plate for those pedals on there site. I have the gt1 evo in black and the triple monitor stand and love both of them
@@SIMRIG412 so i have to buy it extra? Do you have the Heusinkvelds aswell?
Will it be compatible with the csl dd?
do you think forcefeedback is more noticeable than regular round shape wheel or does it give less forcefeedback because of made of plastic?
Larger radius means less brittle ffb imo. I have the formula and bmw rims and use them but 90% of the time I stick with the mclaren rim on my dd1. The plastic makes no difference to me in anything except quality feel... but the size and button placements just makes it the right size for most use cases.
does the aluminum quick release work with the csl wheel base
Yes it does
How do you take off those knobs @ 20:21?
Regarding it's use for veterans or anyone that's lost their legs or can't use them. You can do what my friend has done. He brought the fanatec brake performance kit and cut down one of the load cells then neatly glued it beneath the paddle he uses for brakes.
That way he gets a gradual pressure for muscle memory and he says it makes a world of difference.just like moving from a normal brake pedal to a Load cell.
Anyone know if the SRM conversion works with this rim?
Yes it does
Per what Barry said has anyone ever used the original QR and cut the tab off and run it on a DD1/2?
Has it cracked or handle it ok?
This will void your warranty on both the DDand the McLaren wheel. Do NOT do it!
@@momorious Doubt it would cause damage to any part other than the quick release itself. Dont see how it would affect wheelbase to void warranty
Just need someone to make a conversion kit for it so I can get it on my small mige :D
Do you think there’s anyway to fix the encoder shaft that snapped without having to replace and solder anything
I think this is one of the best wheels that Fanatec has and everyone should own it if you are in Fanatec infrastructure.
My biggest issue with this wheel is lack of buttons 7 and 8. I really miss them in EA F1 games.
I would like to have an elevated (Podium) version of this wheel with more weight, less plastic feel, extra buttons and illumination. I know that there is a BMW M4 GT3 wheel but we all know how much it costs. Really great product that i use for most if my driving.
Now you can even use it with QR2 mounting system.
Vans Slip On are the best shoes to simrace !!!
Can’t decide this or the v2.5. I play on ps5. Do u know does the vibration motors in the v2.5 work on ps5 games?
Can't wait for mine to arrive , was delayed till the 22/01 , hopefully it's not delayed again , been waiting for your review 👍 , did you ever fill in the V1 with epoxy resin ?
It’s been delayed again
When did you order it?
@@FormulaProg That you see a different date in the webshop doesn't mean has been delayed. Can be that "your" batch is sold out and this is now the date of the next batch.
Hi, can you tell me if this wheel is compatible with a Thrustmaster base?
No, fanatec only.
If you're willing to risk potentially voiding the warranty, there's a quick fix on YT that significantly reduces the noise of the paddles. I did that the day after I got mine; that was two years ago and I've never had an issue with this wheel.
Any of you guys know what the maximum amount of torque for the QR1 is without removing the pin?
Screen size and resolution?
Ah, fun to see the teardown, I was thinking when I first saw the display that its a SSD1306 display which is popular in many elecrtonics and arduino scene :) I wonder if the whole PCB is just a custom arduino? it also looks easy if you accidently destroy your pins on the wheel, to change them since its a connector on the PCB. and the LCD is cheap to replace also if you accidently broke it.
Hey man, you seems to know a lot, my lcd broke I want to replace it but all the Oled display I’m finding are with pin behind except this one has the pin connector attach to it. Can you help me with that?
Can i put this wheel on a trustmaster tx survo base ?
No
Hello! I have one Question! Are there vibration motors in the Mclaren Wheel?
No
Hi I am disabled and can’t use my legs I have a ps5 can I still assign brake and acceleration on the wheel
Yes, this is an advertised feature on the wheel .
Hey I was wondering and needed help on starting to look for pc to move from Xbox but I don't have money so if someone could show me a good pc for a good price would help
900 is pretty good for pc's, I wouldn't suggest going any lower then that though. nzxt has a decent pre build in that price range, and they are really the only pre built company id trust. once you get use to windows and what not you'll definitely love pc over any console.
@@NoHope_ thank you
I wonder if they could make an entirely Fiberglass version of this wheel for DD users.
That would probably the best thing you could get without going to real Carbon Fiber (and Aluminium is too heavy).
Does the quick release make that much difference? I am feeling some flex in my and wondering if that will solve it? running a v2.5 base.
SRG need some T-shirts and other Merch with "So...Lets Get To It" on 'em.
Considering most people will use this wheel as it comes out the box, and the major update is the quick release I can’t understand why you didn’t show it in use whilst stock to test it out before changing the quick release
Because if you listen I clearly says and fanatec states this wheel needs the metal adapter for dd1 or dd1 and this guy uses his servos at high NM so he couldn't use the stock plastic quick release.
@@SIMRIG412 nope, it will work just fine on the dd1 and dd2 but it won't engage high torque mode. The forces that the dd1 and dd2 put out are equivalent to the fanatec 2.5 so it was a valid test to performe to see how sturdy the new quick release is. Like I said most people buying this wheel will not use it on a dd1/dd2. Remember he is reviewing the wheel here not the direct drive motor.
Hi, wich rim do u think it's better, this (mclaren v2) or the fanatec formula v2? in terms of funxionality and build qualities. Sorry for my english I'm Italian lol. Thanks a lot!
Quite clearly the Formula v2.
@@WhiteHawk77 the carbon on the v2 is only on the face plate. It's not layer's of layer's of carbon fiber. V2 is nice and has way more features. But also has downfalls. Like the thumb twist encoders roll to easy and to close, the shifters have weak pull on them and need magnetic shifter installed,v2 is smaller width wise,v2 is more for f1 use then other uses. And your wheel already has force feedback so those 2 extra motors in the v2 don't add that much for the extra $ I owned the v2 it was nice but sold it had way to many buttons I didn't use and I sold it for what I paid for it 1 year later after using it. I'll end up buy the this for $200 and be just fine. Can buy used metal quick release hubs cheap.
@@WhiteHawk77 I'm def upgrading and struggling to decide which rim to get, currently stuck using xbox series x learning how to play ACC. Leaning toward spending fhd Xtra bread on the f1 rim
@@WhiteHawk77 I need to step up and get a proper gaming PC. Lol.
Hello,
Do you think the prosimu T1000 5M is the best simulator ?
I'm loving this wheel, but thought that the shifter clicks are a bit too noisy. Anyone knows how I can remove the paddle so I can add some dampening foam below it? Looks like there's a pin holding it in place, but I'm not sure how to remove it.
Your hair looks too nice and clean.. You are not a filthy sim racer!!
Before watching this video, i told myself that i would just watch a few minutes, since i already watched about 200 reviews of this wheel.. Still watched the whole thing. Really great video! I went to school for 3 years in electrical engineering for small electronics, so this small tear-down of the wheel brought me back to the good old days! :D Really have to watch the rest of your fanatec videos now!
I ordered this late December thinking it was coming mid January and now it’s been pushed back to Feb 23rd :(
Obviously they ran out of 1st batch. Go to the website it states it for ore order again. Fanatec is always behind on orders let alone thru covid 19.
Think yourself lucky that you’ll eventually receive it. Myself, am unable to buy as it’s not even listed anymore
@@grahamkelly8662 it is. Double check, I just seen it’s available the same date as mine.
@@FormulaProg are you in Europe? Because I can’t find it on the website
@@grahamkelly8662 yeah, Wales
How do you remove the N/P buttons before taking off the front of the wheel?
2 month wait Pre ordered
Apparently some people like the rocker style shift paddles because you can be adjusting brake bias or whatnot with one hand and still shift either way with the other.
Welp almost to the day I bought this rim a year ago, the upshift side has failed, almost like it has pushed the button through and there is no dent feeling in it at all. In fact the software reports that the button is depressed. Very informative videos as always though I wished we could have seen behind the paddles to see how that works in there. I guess you get what you pay for? Thanks for the great video, your tear downs are great!
Now only if the manufacturer could deliver the product on time
Is anybody using this wheel on ps5 (with CSL elite base) how well does it function, do the clutch bite paddles work on F1 2020 game?
The brake and throttle paddles are good for accessibility. A buddy of mine enjoys sim racing but uses a wheelchair due to a past accident and has limited use of his legs so he uses the paddles for brake/throttle to get around that.
They're clutch paddles...
@@PWRMindset i understand that. In the video he mentions that he doesn't know why anyone would use them as brake/throttle paddles with the available setting.
@@Panaxxxx Yeah. There's a racing driver that lost his legs and uses the steering wheel.
Billy Monger I think.
One thing that bothers me about this wheel is the button rattling when you have the FFB set high. Overall, a great wheel but buyer beware.
For some reason my McLaren wheel allows high torque mode on the DD1 out of the box. I've tested my P1 wheel and that only allows low torque.
I play F1 on PlayStation. Getting to a point where I need a wheel setup, and am out growing the controller. I’d rather not have to take out a 2nd mortgage and empty out my kids college fund, but that seems to be all I can find. When I look up reviews, the ones recommended, I can’t find for sale anywhere or they’re extremely expensive. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
@Illuria I’d argue that Logitech aren’t worth it either. Just save up a bit more and at least get belt driven. Fuck gear driven wheels
@Illuria nah i find it a waste of money honestly. Gears are loud and not fun. Just save and get belt driven. They aren’t much more money
spent over 2600 on a new rig from Fanatec like 2 weeks ago and still never shipped :(
Clearly states on the website that shipping is behind.
Their customer support sucks. My base basically imploded after 6 months. The process took 2 months and I just bought another one just cus I couldn’t handle not racing. Told them to FO!
What’s classed as high torque mode? Would the new csl DD with boost kit be below that figure or do I need to buy the quick release also?
Doubt it, csw 2.5 has about the same nm as csl dd and it will work on it..
