WOW, what a line-up. I'm gonna get something to eat and drink and just sit back and enjoy this video. Thanks to you and Tom for all of your hard work as always buddy.
This review was exactly what I was looking for as I'm looking for a new wheel for the upcoming F1/23, decided to go with Esports v2. I still kind of new to the F1 series so I don't think I'll miss the extra buttons. Thanks again!
As an owner of a Formula V2 (back when they had the old shifter paddles only) wheel who mainly plays the F1 games on PC, I was so excited for all the buttons, switches, bells and whistles. I was like, "Man, I'm going to be able to map so much crap onto this wheel." And then I got the wheel and actually played with it. The rotary thumb wheels feel kind of light/loose. It was really difficult to know when a roll was registered and a setting was actually changed. I found myself always having to look on the screen to make sure it changed, which it didn't always do. So now I just find myself using the thumbstick on the wheel to just change all of my settings for me while driving. Not to mention, if you're only playing F1, there aren't that many settings to really fool around with while racing anyways, so you don't really need so many functions mapped onto the wheel. What made me choose that wheel was the ability to mount the extra paddles from the APM's. Now THAT is worth the investment. Having 4 extra paddles that are easy to reach and use has been really helpful for me. I have been getting into ACC lately, and I feel like the extra dials, buttons, and switches are much more useful in that game as there are so many more settings to be switched around while driving. But if you are solely an arcade racer or only play the F1 games and don't care about extra paddles on the wheel, save yourself the money and go with the Formula Carbon or Esports wheels. They are more than enough for the less sim titles of the group. Use that money you save and try to upgrade to a load cell kit if you don't have one. The brakes will save you way more lap time than any crazy steering wheel ever will. If I could do it over again, I might have just gone with the Formula Carbon and saved up to buy the ClubSport V3 pedals instead of the Formula V 2 wheel, APM's, and CSL Elite Pedals w/ load cell kit. It was super fun for the first week or so, but after a year and a half with my setup, I think I'd prefer to have a nicer pedal board than steering wheel. Also, when installing the APM's, I didn't want to strip any screws or tighten them too hard. About 2 months later, I was in an online race and felt the right shifter paddles star to loosen. Apparently it was too loose and the damn thing was starting to fall off. Luckily, the Allen wrench was on the table next to me, so I paused the game and tightened it back up. Then I unpaused the game, and as soon as I did, the Allen wrench got magnetized to the magnets on the paddle so it wouldn't move. Had to pause again, and struggle with pulling the Allen wrench off. Moral of the story, tighten those suckers down.
Very helpful comment! Thanks. I am torn between the V2.5 and the esports version. I will play F1 and ACC mostly. I am leaning towards the esports version.
I got a GT DD pro bundle, and then now after three months and upgrading to V3 pedals and a clubsport universal hub with drift rim, and totally falling in love with sim racing, I pulled the trigger on a DD2 and V2.5, and I honestly am so excited!!!! CANNOT wait for the things to arrive!! I realize Fanatec has a bad reputation for customer service but I’d like to say I’ve contacted the support team a few times for certain questions (never had any hardware issues and everything I’ve purchased is top notch quality with the exception of the plastic wheel on the GT DD bundle, but I knew that when I bought it so not complaining it’s still a great all around wheel especially for starting out) and the customer service has always gotten back to me in an acceptable amount of time and has helped me without any hassle. I’d like to be devils advocate and assume that most people complaining of poor customer service are likely highly emotional and frustrated when dealing with them and that likely influences the conversation and interaction. That being said after spending so much and having issues I would be emotional also so, doesn’t excuse it, but I have had nothing but awesome experiences with Fanatec.
I got the McLaren wheel after watching your videos as I'm getting into sim racing for the first time. Couldn't have made a better choice - very happy with it!
I had mclaren gt3 version 1 and formula v2, mainly used the gt3 until I got into dirt rally (such a fun game) for which I bought the wrc rally wheel. Love the alcantara feel
@@v10redline My opinion is that for the price, the McLaren wheel is absolutely INSANE... I'm not a guy that cares about whether it's good quality plastic or carbon fiber but about performance... and imho McLaren performs BETTER than the smaller Formula wheels... you have better control... In F1 games the magnetic shifters might be easier but come on... I've run F1 games with a T300... I can handle the shifters... Now in games like ACC? Holy crap this McLaren wheel is just perfect... it's a dream... why? because unlike the other wheels it's an EXACT REPLICA for an actual GT3 wheel... so it's ergonomically designed for an actual GT3 car to race for hours and hours without tension... So, my tip would be this... if you're not loaded and you have money for one rim, then get the McLaren and it's not even close... VFM the McLaren GT3 is the best rim in the goddamn world and this is not an exaggeration at all... P.S. I know this is a really old comment and you've gotten your wheel... but just hoping you got the Mac wheel and I'll make you feel good about yourself 😁
I just ordered the Formula V2.5 with the GT DD Pro base and CSL pedals (will add load cell brake later when I can afford it, maybe the podium advanced paddle module too). Upgrading from a G29 and I've never even tried a DD wheel... I'm very much looking forward to this all arriving 😁
I have been playing GT7 with GT DD Pro 8nm boost kit and CSL pedals. First time getting into sim racing (using PS5) and I am addicted. Its so much more rewarding getting gold in license test and learning how to trail brake and passing takes it to whole new level. Ready to upgrade to a Formula wheel to play F1 game and get load cell brake.
Been playing Automobilista 2 in my VR set up. Considering doing some iRacing, and need to upgrade from my 2010 G27 purchase. You have really helped me with your reviews as i have never driven with DD wheel before. Still undecided about Moza or Fanatec. I wish Moza had a cheaper F1 style wheel available from what I have been able to see so far.
Just watched this out of curiosity as I just bought the McLaren wheel due to the larger diameter and overall versatility. Versatility was the key for me as I prefer to avoid clutter in my house, so I want one wheel to do as much as possible. The price sure is a positive side too. I am happy with my choise so far in two weeks in. McLaren wheel seems good quality overall. I noted that the buttons are reallly heavy to press, but once I got used to it, I really like the firm feeling. One thing I would note is that it sure has been molded to someone with larger hands than mine. Though it does feel pretty good in my hand, I assume the F1 wheel would be a better fit in ergonomic sense.
Great video as always. I had the V2.5x for a while but felt it was too small in my hands and they would begin to cramp. Went with the McLaren GT3 V2 due to size and I couldn't be happier. It's cheaper so my wallet thanked me too.
@@NikkenMagboy McLaren is bigger and I thought I would like how big it was, but after installing the podium shifter padels on the V2.5x I’ve falling in love with the rim and don’t mind how small it is.
Mclaren gt3 v2 is ok to start, but as you get faster in F1, it’s very easy to miss gears when downshifting quickly from 8th to 3rd gear for instance. I’ll definitely need an upgrade.
I unfortunately purchased a Formula Carbon about 2 weeks before it was discontinued and the upgraded versions were released. Had I waited just a bit longer, I could have picked up a better wheel for about the same price. That said, once I purchased an eBay magnetic shifter mod, the Formula Carbon is an excellent wheel. I just wish I would have gotten the upgraded one.
Thanks for the hard work! I was considering a formula style wheel, and was a bit torn between V2.5 and the E-Sport. This will help me make a.more informed decision👍
Going from a ts-pc base with the f1 wheel to the CLS DD and McLaren wheel i can say i miss the thumb rollers and the vibration motors in the thrustmaster wheel. From your discussion it appears the Fanatec wheel vibration motors must not be very strong. Feeling the rumble curbs through the wheel does help on tracks like Road Alanta, Monza and Mt. Panorama for track placement approaching the turn. Good review, thank you.
Glad we got a new video on these rims. I got the V2.5 PS4/PS5 F1 rim back in September last year I think it was back then. Anyways it's so cool and I feel the force feedback is nicer than my regular csl elite P1.
Complete opposite for me with the rotary encoders vs the face encoders. Rotary encoders are too easy to accidentally activate for me making them effectively useless. Face encoders I use constantly for abs/tc in ACC and they work quite well.
Some extra information: 1. f1 esport does come with QR1 release at default, so mclaren wheel + qr1 release would be more expensive than f1 esport then. 2. Also, if you do have a csl dd 5nm/8nm version, smaller diameter (270mm vs 300mm) would help you gain a little bit more extra ffb feeling on your hand, so if you don't own a dd1 or dd2 but want a little bit more ffb strenth through csl dd, 270mm may be a better choice.
I started with a Formula V2 on my CSL Elite back in 2019. ...Now.. Now.. I have descended into the Sim Racing depths, the never ending winding coves and tunnels of.. buying more. I upgraded to a CSW and V3 Pedals a few months after.. got hooked.. then.. then it really hit, I now have a DD2, had it for well over a year now, lve it to be bits, adore it!.. mounted on a TR1 Simlabs rig.. attached to it.. a CubeControls CSX 2.. yep.. yep I went off the deep end. Wanna know whats weird? I do use it.. I do. Its just I find myself reaching for my McLaren wheel or my F1 2021 wheel, the forged carbon one. Funny that.. I brought a wheel thats literally the same price as my DD2.. and I use it.. for the F1 games! GAHAHAHA! hahaha.. haha.. *sob*
Great information here. I actually sold my F1 2021 Formula Wheel and really enjoy my McLaren GT3 wheel with my DD2. I bought the QR1 and the SRM paddle shifters for it. It's killer for the money and even if the upgrades added to the cost, totally worth it IMO. I hope Fanatec does a more expensive premium GT3 style wheel outside of the upcoming BMW one.
The McLaren wheel would be for me personally the perfect size, but i dont like the rubber grip feel, its cheap feeling, much prefer the perforated leather style on the more expensive wheels (dislike alcantara) and also the shifters on the McLaren wheel dont feel tactile enough. Overall i guess for 200 bucks its an okay wheel but i think having the 350€/$ Formula 2.5 with better grips, better shifter paddles and QR1 included is the better value for money. The wheel is just much more premium feeling and it justifies the price increase.
I have the F1 2021 wheel and i wouldn’t give up the advanced paddles and especially the motors in the grips. Actually hearing and feeling the rumble strips on either the right or left side is really nice. Helps with the immersion. I’m not a fan of the Alcatara and prefer leather but that’s what I have so I wear cheap work gloves from The Home Depot. By the way, the glow-in-the-dark paint on the wheel are cool, but Fanatec either used chemicals with the least amount of glow properties or used very little in their paint because even after charging it with a UV light the glow fades to nothing in less than 1 minute. For comparison, my wristwatch under the lamp with the same amount of time lasts for hours.
The first wheel I ever purchased was the Mclaren gt3 for several reasons. It was the best bang for the buck wheel...it has analog pedals on it which I require for gas/brake cause my legs no workie ;P. So much fun to be able to enjoy sim racing despite my limitations. I did buy a magnetic shifter replacement for the gt3 wheel. I did not like the standard shifting lever with this mclaren wheel and once I modified it with the magnetic shifters, its one of my favorite wheels from fanatec.
Would be okay had it not have a lot of reported issues on the shifters not registering or bouncing back. It's an easy fix for sure, but not without taking it apart and voiding warranty
Hi boosted iam the bandit. I think your amazing at reviewing simracing equipment. One day i will have a dd wheel. Iam using a 10 year old fanatec csr lol. I always look forward to the video's!
👍 looking forward to the round wheel review, even though I’m just about to receive my Clubsport RS wheel. Hopefully it ends up being a good choice for an all rounder GT/rally wheel.
It's a great wheel, you're going to love it! I only wish I had gotten the advanced paddle shifters with it, will be getting them soon. Great all around wheel!
@@dechrigaming5936 it comes down to personal preference and budget I guess. My reasons for choosing the clubsport RS over the WRC wheel were magnetic paddle shifters, wheel diameter and button layout. I still haven’t received my wheel yet though so I don’t know if I made the right choice or not 😆
Holy shit, you're like the twin of Martin Freeman just with brown hair. Thanks for the video! Very informative and detailed! Thinking about getting my first wheel and seeing such an in-depth review/show of different wheels really helps! Thanks for your effort
Excellent detailed review! But I have such a situation: in conjunction with CSL DD McLaren, because of the large lever, it transmits feedback worse than a more nimble formula steering wheel. The 8Nm just can't handle the McLaren If your hands are strong enough. My son has enough recoil, but not me (100 kg, 190 cm). It turns out that in my case, McLaren can be taken for major DD1 or DD2, but not CSL DD.
Hey Will would love to see a round wheel version of this video I already have a formula wheel so I did watch this video all the way through and feel like I got the right wheel for what I wanted and what I need to do with it. your fans would love see a I said a round wheel version of this for maybe somebody who wants a more universal wheel for rallying or drifting that would be great thanks love the channel have a great day guys.
One important note is the quick release is $100 USD and comes with the F1 e-sport wheel. The McLaren with a quick release ends up costing more than the e-sport wheel.
Yep. That’s mentioned in the video. Depends on if you need the metal QR really. I don’t really feel it’s necessary unless you have a DD1/2 but others will disagree.
Hey Will, that’s an awesome comparison! On the topic of Formula Rims, would it be a possibility if you could review the Acelith Formula Add-on Rim for the Podium Button Module Endurance? That‘s always been of interest for me as an alternative to the 270mm Formula Rims for the people who like something above the McLaren Wheel. Take care and cheers!
Would you do a video where you tell us how you mapped your wheel buttons and switches for GT racing in ACC / iRacing? Because that actually tells us if we need or not more buttons and rotaries. Thanks...
@@boostedmedia I mean...TC, ABS, BrakeBias, EngineMap, Neutral, PitLimiter, PitMenuNavigation, Clutch (if you have none), FFB changes, Ignition, CarTurnOn...I mean one by one those take lots of buttons. I actually mean a video in which we understand your strategy of what you drop and why, what you retain and which button type you assign to each of those. I'm a newbie that's why I ask. I also watched this video entirely so I was not trying to skip just was looking for more depth. Thanks...
Just gonna pop a comment right before I watch. The F1 ESports wheel imo is the quint-essential VR wheel. Its ergonomics means its so crazy easy and comfortable to use whilst in a headset. Its got a great number of buttons to map and the muscle memory is barely needed thanks to its layout. Now gonna go watch the video and see if Will convinces me to part with yet more money :D
This is exactly I'm struggling with my decision. I race in VR which makes me think the F1 ESport might be the better option. At the same time, I feel like I'm going to end up upgrading to a Formula V2.5 eventually so why not just spend the $80+ now. What's your verdict after the video?
@@CapN-Savvy tempted for the thumb rotories as Will mentioned as they would be easy to use, but the others I imagine will be very difficult. Reckon I'll stick to esports, and instead maybe try the paddle upgrade as having three paddles per side would be useful and VR easy to use. What wheel are you using currently?
@Lewis Bloom currently I only have the universal hub with a 320 wheel. I just started getting more into f1 which is why I'm going back n forth between the two.
This was a very informative review 👏🏾 I just purchased the V2 wheel for the PS5,, but then I also have a series X thinking I may need the V2 5 X ...decisions but I do like the look of the V2 overall especially with the LED lighting and big digital speedometer.. Update...I just canceled my order for the Clubsport V2 and decided to go with the V2.5X, I saw video on it with someone using it and it looks wicked...nice display..and I ordered the McClaren wheel for that GT racing ..the price is good to go for 199 how can one go wrong with both wheels 😆 🤣
I have just got the new E-Sports V2. I am loving it. Amazing built quality, very nice clicky buttons and shifter action, but I would prefer leather or even rubber instead of Alcantara. It feels very nice and soft, but I am concerned about the durability.
as always a great review, thanks for that! i recently bought the formula v2.5 and i am also satisfied with it. however, i have to agree that the wheel is too small for cars like gt3 and i will also buy the mclaren gt3 wheel (thanks to your recommendation). i am also looking for shifter mods for the gt3 wheel, because i don't want to miss the crisp magnetic shift feeling. i know, the price/performance ratio is lost, but fanatec unfortunately doesn't offer any other gt3 wheel, except for the BMW ;)
I have the F1 2021 LE wheel. I hate the alcantara as it is wearing out fast. I'm going to get a Formula 2.5 and transfer over the APMs that came with the 2021 LE wheel. I asked Fanatec if they would sell me the leather grips as a replacement, but they said they would only sell me another set of Alcantara grips. Also, unlike Will I use the rotery encoders quite often. I use them for ABS and TC1 in GT3 cars as they don't get changed that often, but when I do need to change the settings they are still easily accessable.
@@pallemach2 I did consider that, but also I'd like a spare wheel. If something ever happens and I have a wheel out off commission because of a fault then I'd have a backup. It's the same reason I'm not getting rid of my V3 pedals when my Invicta pedals arrive.
I play mostly GT3 cars on the V2.5x. And although the V2.5X is nice on about everything. That 270mm? size is a bit of a pain. Now the mclaren GT3 V2 is the next best thing but I wished it had premium metal material to make it actually feel premium. Very nice replica nonetheless.
Great video, thanks for the share, i always look forward to when you post new stuff. One question i had for the Formula 1 wheels with the rotary switches, can those be modified for the Playstation F1 games by Codemaster? Ive been wanting to get one for my collection but was curious if its something that even works on the PS. Thanks in advance and again GREAT channel
Awesome information! I just received my Formula v2.5. Absolutely love it. The quality is great, it does feel special. Just a quick question. Are the shifters adjustable? I am not brave enough to start loosening bolts. I want to move them more towards me.
I own the ClubSport Universal Hub, and it has to different positions where i can bolt the magnetic shifters to. I also moved them, because they where to far away for me. You can loose those 2 bolts on each side without a Problem, you cant break it because of that
Could you make a video like this, but for rallying? As I'm looking for a future (hopefully near future) upgrade from my g29, this is something I'd be very interested in 😁
The e-sports rim is much more rigid than the CF formula rims. You don't get plastic creaking sounds from the e-sports version but you will get it on the CF 2.5 due to the plastic grips
Help! lol Your reviews are great Will, but I'm struggling with making a decision. My current setup is a G29 wheel and I upgraded my pedals to the Clubsport v3 with brake performance kit last year. I'm now looking to get the GT DD Pro and I'm torn as to which wheel to get.... I can't say money is no object, but I'd rather spend a touch more if it means build quality / aesthetics etc. I really like the looks and build quality (materials) of the Formula v2.5, compared to the McLaren GT3 V2, but I am concerned with what you and others are saying about the diameter not being well suited to GT3s which is mainly what I run aside from Prototypes and some GT4 open wheel a bit. I eventually would like to get a round wheel for a little Rally and NASCAR styles, but that's a ways down the road. Being in Canada on a border city, I'm looking at US prices and I'm comparing the McLaren GT3 w/ QR1 upgrade @ $300 vs 389 for the Formula v2.5... so for a difference of 89 USD it looks like the Fv2.5 is far better quality, but should I be concerned about the diameter to that degree considering My current G29 is 280mm wide?
IMPORTANT: the V2.5X wheel will work on Xbox but you won’t be able to use the rotary wheels, the dials and the Oled screen (speedometer) and the rev counter this is due to Xbox’s sdk recognising it as a standard controller, Fanatec say it’s compatible with Xbox, it is but not fully hope this helps 👍
I’ve even tested it myself on Playstation and i can use all the buttons on there but I’ve discussed this with Xbox personally and looked at many Fanatec forums and even Fanatec have come out to people saying this is due to how Xbox have optimised steering wheels
Hi awesome vide again !!!! Where can i find the full review about the shifter of these formula wheels ?? Because i have problems with mine ,sometimes they wont shift up or down in f1 2020 ,and thy're not reacting to my shifting Can you please help me Ralf
Awesome video you bunch of legends. I would love to know more about the wheel that comes with the f1 podium bundle, it doesn't seem to be sold separately. Do you know if it is the same as the formula v2 or v2.5 or does it have its own specs? I know its got the nice QR & advanced paddle module, & blue alcantara grips but I dont know anything else.
I ordered the McLaren Gt3 v2 and CSL DD 8nm yesterday. Looking forward to April 27 when it becomes available to ship. Thanks for the info on this and previous videos 👍🏼👍🏼
@Peter Harrison You are correct. I got the GT1 bundle and forgot the GT4 was more $. When I compared what I wanted from Fanatec vs Simagic the difference was about $100.
Thank you very much for the review! I have a question about the rotary switches (thumb encoders) and is that if you can map different functionalities (such as TC, engine map, brake bias) to each position in the rotary switch at the same time? Or can you encode/map only one functionality in each rotary switch? For example, can I encode TC and brake bias in the left rotary switch and engine map with wiper blades in the right rotary switch?
I have the McLaren GT3 v2 and the Esport V2. I mainly play F1 on PC and the Esport is by far the better wheel for F1, due to it's size. It's way easier for sharp and precise steering than the McLaren. I prefer the McLaren for ACC thought. Strangely the Esport makes FFB feel a lot stronger in F1 than the McLaren. Shifting on the Esport is also a lot nicer, quicker and less cluncky than with the McLaren. Shifting down in a quick way from 8th gear to second gear which happens a lot in F1 is a bit more cumbersome with the McLaren.
I have the Formula V2.5 but I think it was Name Formula V2 when I bought it ist the red one and I bought the podium paddle module and it’s worth it. But for F1 Game from Codemasters you don’t need this wheel but I also play Assetto Corsa Competizione and for this there are not enough buttons on it
Im doubting between the 2.5 and the mcl v2 I mostly race gt3 cars, i like the 2.5 way better (build quality, looks etc) but the mcl gt wheel has the clutches on the back, does anyone with this wheel ever use these clutch paddles?
+ Italia 545 styled gt3 wheel with playstation (high quality X, Square,Triangle and Circle buttons) with high quality leather carbon and high quality materials.
My Maca V2 is missing upshifts after a year of causal use. it is unusable. waiting for RMA and will be buying a Formula wheel for a backup. also you’ll need a metal QR if you run a DD. So add $100 to price.
I’m fairly new to sim racing, been playing on controller for pretty much my entire racing career. After I tried a sim setup at my “local” gaming lounge, I fell in love with it. I’m thinking about getting one of the ESports wheels, mainly for their price point. Is there any advantage to this one over the V 2.5?
Thanks for another great informative video. I have a question in regards to the different build qualities. Does that have any affects in a Sim Racing setup? does it matter at all? or is it possibly an issue if you are using higher powered wheel bases?
The Esports V2 is 269 US Dollars but they're giving the Quick Release For Free, the GT3 is $199 without Quick Release and if you want Quick Release it costs $299 so.. Also the GT3 lacks RPMs LEds
I have the McLaren V2 and at 250hrs I'm starting to feel and her a little amount of plastic creaking. I'm running it on a DD1 with upgraded QR at about 12-14nm. I'll be ordering a formula esports wheel soon to compare.
I am getting the Formula Esports V2 today together with the DD1. I also heard different stories about the McLaren V2 having plastic creaking noises. I have that currently on my Thrustmaster setup as well. But was hoping moving to Fanatec more expensive gear that these noises would be gone. Hop the Esports V2 does not have this issue. But surprisingly no reviews of the McLaren V2 mention the creaking noises, maybe people only use it on low torque?
@@bschalker I was thinking the same thing as well about people using lower torque settings. The Esports wheel shouldn't be an issue since it's metal plate as the main construction.
Hey ! I got a question about the Formula Esports V2 wheel with compatiblity on fantec's website there is a bundel with it and it says it fits on xbox but dosen't the wheel only support Playstation and PC ?
I own the esports v1 and man I wish it worked on Xbox one. I absolutely love it and would definitely make that my all rounder if it did. Thinking About going with a mclaren v2 though to play acc with. The formula v2 is super cool and would be nice to have all those buttons but also makes me question if I would use all of those buttons😂 expecially with how expensive it is I gotta make sure it’s worth it
Hello , quick question I have CLUBSPORT STEERING WHEEL F1 (ps5) if want to upgrade the steering wheel do I have to buy a whole new setup? Or does wheel base work with all wheels?
I have an xbox one and I bought the gt dd pro with the formula v2.5x steering wheel. I downloaded the latest driver available but I have problems with some buttons on the V2.5 X steering wheel. The LEDs and the speed do not light up, many buttons do not read them, and the podium paddles do not read the clutch and the higher ones read them as a brake. What can I do? What is the problem in your opinion?
This is down to Fanatec and Microsoft not having developed a complete driver. It's a huge shame that (some of) these products are marketed as being Xbox compatible while that is only partially true
Love these kind of reviews that go so in depth and cover scenarios. Not even all the way through and already this is SUPER informative.
Thanks brother. Congrats on the new job BTW!
Now as the price has risen, f1 esport v2 looks like really good choice. The Formula v2.5 has risen to 390€ which adds up differenc in price to 120€
I want a McLaren gt3 sized wheel with formula v2.5 materials and quality :(
Agreed!!
It will defo come one day:)
Get the bmw gt3 for 1500 usd 🤣
Couldnt wait anymore so going Moza GS wheel. Has been years fanatec hasnt done anything to address that.
I would like to get some sim racing equipment. But HOLY SMOKES it is expensive. (Canadian Dollars)
I was like, "Man, I'm going to be able to map so much crap onto this wheel."
And then I got the wheel and actually played with it.
Thanks.

I’m new to sim racing and you are the best channel I’ve found. I just ordered the v2.5. Pretty excited.
I got the McLaren wheel after watching your videos as I'm getting into sim racing for the first time. Couldn't have made a better choice - very happy with it!
Do you still have the wheel? If so, how's it holding up?
This was the exact video I needed! Another great, in depth review, Will!
ESport V2 is now $219.00 USD...that's the one I got...just starting out on SIM racing...love the reviews...helps me out a lot!!!
I had mclaren gt3 version 1 and formula v2, mainly used the gt3 until I got into dirt rally (such a fun game) for which I bought the wrc rally wheel. Love the alcantara feel
Do you like the McLaren GT3 better than the Formula v2?
@@UniQue1992 is like to know this as well
@@v10redline My opinion is that for the price, the McLaren wheel is absolutely INSANE...
Formula V2.5 looks amazing. Definitely worth the extra money. Looking forward to picking one up.
Nice man. Im thinking of uppgrading to a simular setup that you bought. Was it worth it?
how was it?
@@Tomsteph10 Quite curious as well :D
Thinking of getting the same exact thing , I have gt dd pro,csl pedals . How is the switch?
I have been playing GT7 with GT DD Pro 8nm boost kit and CSL pedals. First time getting into sim racing (using PS5) and I am addicted. Its so much more rewarding getting gold in license test and learning how to trail brake and passing takes it to whole new level. Ready to upgrade to a Formula wheel to play F1 game and get load cell brake.
Love your reviews, keep up the good work. Ordered a V2.5X yesterday using your link.
Thanks for the support.
Thanks, man- I've been hoping to find a review on this for a couple of weeks now! Much appreciated!
Been playing Automobilista 2 in my VR set up. Considering doing some iRacing, and need to upgrade from my 2010 G27 purchase. You have really helped me with your reviews as i have never driven with DD wheel before. Still undecided about Moza or Fanatec. I wish Moza had a cheaper F1 style wheel available from what I have been able to see so far.
wow i literally was wondering what to grab this morning, this video’s timing was perfect! :)
I've watched this video around 7 times by now, I still can't make up my mind whether to get a Formula v2.5 or a GT3 v2.
What did you do?
@@MrLuizsaluti I got the Formula v2.5, and I still love it! Considering getting pineapple grips for it, but I’m not sure it will do me any good.
Still enjoying that wheel?
Do you have the wheel still? If so, how's it holding up?
Great video as always. I had the V2.5x for a while but felt it was too small in my hands and they would begin to cramp. Went with the McLaren GT3 V2 due to size and I couldn't be happier. It's cheaper so my wallet thanked me too.
Which wheelbase were you using? Hi torque?
@@NikkenMagboy CSL DD 8 nm
Thanks for responding. Trying to decide between this and the mclaren which i heard is a better size 👍
@@NikkenMagboy McLaren is bigger and I thought I would like how big it was, but after installing the podium shifter padels on the V2.5x I’ve falling in love with the rim and don’t mind how small it is.
That’s exactly what i needed to hear! 🙏
I am curious, which one did you go with? I also have the same dilemma...
@@arvindbisoen3736 I've gone for the 2.5 because it has leather grips, I really don't like alcantara becaues it deteriorates over time.
This makes me Even more excited for the v2.5x I ordered a few hours ago!
Great review, lots of great information and very well presented. Thanks.
I like the McLaren, and almost bought it, but love the thumb encoders for fuel trim and brake bias
Glad we got a new video on these rims. I got the V2.5 PS4/PS5 F1 rim back in September last year I think it was back then. Anyways it's so cool and I feel the force feedback is nicer than my regular csl elite P1.
Thanks as always Will, to me the best reviewer out there. Great job 👍👌 bravo and thx 😊
2. Also, if you do have a csl dd 5nm/8nm version, smaller diameter (270mm vs 300mm) would help you gain a little bit more extra ffb feeling on your hand, so if you don't own a dd1 or dd2 but want a little bit more ffb strenth through csl dd, 270mm may be a better choice.
the 2nd is wrong, you feel less ffb with smaller diameter. beginner school physics

Thanks for doing this Will! Awesome review
Bang for buck. McLaren v2. Dual clutches. Proper rotary encoders, rocker shifters for £200. Absolute no brainer
I am just thinking if I should get the Clubsport rs wheel or would I get better value for money with the basic CSL wheel.
@@dechrigaming5936 it comes down to personal preference and budget I guess. My reasons for choosing the clubsport RS over the WRC wheel were magnetic paddle shifters, wheel diameter and button layout. I still haven’t received my wheel yet though so I don’t know if I made the right choice or not 😆
@@pieflies I also see the excact same benefits, with also more durable material. Especially the button layout seems so damn good in Clubsport rs.

I don’t really feel it’s necessary unless you have a DD1/2 but others will disagree.
nice review, i don't understand how the F1 esports wheel is already discontinued, it just released
I’ll see what I can do. It does look cool.
I got F1 V2 and I loved
Would you do a video where you tell us how you mapped your wheel buttons and switches for GT racing in ACC / iRacing? Because that actually tells us if we need or not more buttons and rotaries. Thanks...
I talked in this video about how I map my buttons numerous times :)
Thanks...
@@zzmadd This would be very helpful indeed!
That's the only thing holding me back from getting the V2. I really don't like Alcantara. I wish they offered it with leather.
Just get a pair of F1 🏎 Gloves and you Esports V2 will be safe 👍
You talk about the "flick" for the rotary encoders, how exactly do I set this up?
as always a great review, thanks for that! i recently bought the formula v2.5 and i am also satisfied with it. however, i have to agree that the wheel is too small for cars like gt3 and i will also buy the mclaren gt3 wheel (thanks to your recommendation). i am also looking for shifter mods for the gt3 wheel, because i don't want to miss the crisp magnetic shift feeling. i know, the price/performance ratio is lost, but fanatec unfortunately doesn't offer any other gt3 wheel, except for the BMW ;)
Why dont you order new leather grips from pineapple grips? Got the chunky version and they are really well done!
@@pallemach2 I did consider that, but also I'd like a spare wheel. If something ever happens and I have a wheel out off commission because of a fault then I'd have a backup. It's the same reason I'm not getting rid of my V3 pedals when my Invicta pedals arrive.
@@Nick_Kearney Nice pedale choice, I ordered them aswell. Got the Invoice yesterday, so I hope they will arrive mid next week, hypee
So you keep your wife even if you have a mistress, just in case? :)
Have the gt3 wheel mostly play acc. I mostly use the encoder to chance tc and abs while driving.
Do you have videos on managing bias, fuel mix, ers, and all that kind of deeper stuff where intermediates like me get lost?
Pretty sure that’s down to game level integration rather than a hard “it doesn’t work on Xbox” thing.
I’ve even tested it myself on Playstation and i can use all the buttons on there but I’ve discussed this with Xbox personally and looked at many Fanatec forums and even Fanatec have come out to people saying this is due to how Xbox have optimised steering wheels
Just bought a McLaren GT3 wheel for my GTDD Pro wheel base 👍
Fanatec should integrate a proper LCD screen into the formula wheels. In the meantime the McLaren GT3 V2 is great!

Thank you very much for the review!

Thanks for another great informative video. I have a question in regards to the different build qualities. Does that have any affects in a Sim Racing setup? does it matter at all? or is it possibly an issue if you are using higher powered wheel bases?
I think beyond a certain point it becomes purely for the enjoyment you get from owning something of high quality rather than necessary.

Does the E Sport V2 still need to be plugged up to a pc/laptop for tunning?
Love me watching this video knowing I'll either be a millionare or will never have the money to invest in any of these wheels
