I’ve used the PS wheel for 4 yrs with no problems whatsoever. I’ve now switched to the 2.5 X simply for the more buttons. I use driving gloves and my old wheel looks absolutely new.
Wanted the regular but they had it for 199 on Black Friday. So...no brainer. Also picked up the Podium DD2 for 799 during BF. Yeah, not the newest but im using a CSR Elite Forza Edition from 2011. Yeah. Really wish the X wasnt Alcatara but...again, for 199, no brainer.
dude makes total sense everything you said, including the stratocaster comparison, which by the way randomly in this very same night I've been researching to buy one (comparing materials, colors, sound etc). so weird and cool at the same time lol
You're missing the true key difference between ver 2.5 vs ver 2.5x. yes grip and color schemes are different but the X version has vibration motors under the alcantara grips and is also Xbox compatible. Only the ver 2.5x is the only one compatible with the grand Turismo DD pro wheel base for PS5 gaming. I've only been into sim racing for few months and even I know these differences
The true reason is that the PS compatibility comes from a chip inside the wheelbase and the XBOX compatibility comes from a chip inside the wheel itself. Cost related, IIRC, the PS chip is more expensive than the Xbox one .
@@ViaticalTreeIt is “compatible” when you have the required base, which is what hes saying. Fanatec calls it “PS Ready” because you need a compatible base. The compatibility chip is on the base for PS and not the wheel. Any wheel is essentially “PS Compatible” if you have the PS compatible base
@@dryagedmilk Exactly. All Fanatec wheels are PS compatible (which is what I said) while only a couple of bases are PS compatible. And ALL bases are Xbox compatible and only a few wheels are.
I was using the original wheel that came with the GT DD Pro bundle, I recently bought the 2.5, and I can really notice a difference in FFB, the fact it's lighter makes a bigger difference than I expected.
Btw, that original wheel really wears out too damn fast, I expect this leather to hold up much better, and if it ever wears to bad there is at least one company, I forgot the name (not fanatec), that can replace the leather.
So I take it you got the dd+? Nice man. Alao the reason all wheels are compatible for ps is because the bases for ps have the chip in it. Xbox chip is in the wheels. If yoy notice ps compatible bases are upcharged alot. Well with the wheels for xbox its very small in difference. Its ps compatibility is base and xbox compatibility is wheel. Its why all wheels are ps ready as long as you have a PS base.
Hi Matt, great video, amazing and honest review. In terms of durability I live in a tropical country, so for both v2.5 and v2.5x the materials are not my first option, but with the use of racing gloves may I be able to extend the life of the leather? (Like you, for me the v2.5 looks just better) The only drive base I can use on my PS5 is the GT DD Pro right?
There's also a more expensive podium wheelbase that's PS compatible but not sure if it's sold out, cause than it probably only shows up when you search for it.

I use the 2.5X with a DD1 and i just think the PS version looks plain. I dont really like its non coloured way.

I agree. I prefer the look of the white version. I also won’t ever buy an X Box so it’s perfect

You have to oil the leather to soften the leather. Once a year should be plenty
How do you set up button assignments for these wheels on GT7? It only shows the base wheel that comes with the gt dd pro bundle
In the main menu. Controls swction, pick the dd pro. Note, whatever you assign x for example will do the same function for all fanatec wheels.
How about the Formula V2.5/X vs McLaren GT3 V2? 😁 Is the Formula V2.5/X THAT much better than a GT3 V2?
The 2.5 is PC compatible, but only PS ready. It is NOT compatible with PS unless you have a PS compatible wheel base.
It is PS compatible. Compatible means that it works with it. And it does work with PS.

I pray to never run into you on the track lol. And by run into you I mean I pray you don’t run into me lol
Ascher F64, GRID MPX, BararianSimTec Omega ONE ... lots of wheels as alternative 🙂
Thanks, this video helped me a lot
2.5x its 199
