I have the McLaren GT3 and I'm very happy with it. My hands sweat a lot less with it than with the original Gran Turismo DD steering wheel, I don't need gloves anymore. And after 600 hours it still looks like new. As I only play Gran Turismo 7 anyway and the game hardly supports buttons, the Formula 2.5 would be overloaded with buttons. Could you maybe do a video where you explain what buttons are mappable on both wheels?
3rd party QR2s are very available and very cheap. There are a few reviews on youtube. They look good too and come in nice colors and are made with good materials. Next wheel I get, I will be going that way.
Both good wheels…the McLaren GT3 v2 has the seesaw gear change paddles that some don’t like..but it does provide one handed up and down gear changes if needed which a lot of people don’t realise..the push/pull with one hand was initially developed to aid button pressing mid corner etc but modern wheels are set up better and no longer really require that function…thanks for the comparison Digit, great video ❤️👍
Yup! I actually use the ability to shift up and down with the same hand when I reach out for a drink with one of my hands or something haha, it's really useful.
One thing to point out is that there is really no point in the qr2 pro for either of these two wheels as the $100 qr2 has all the same features of the $200 qr2 pro save the FIA certification to be used in a real automobile.
I own the McLaren wheel and it has been great for GT7, the single paddle gear shifter has been fine, makes shifting with one hand possible. My only complaint is the red switches are not mappable in GT7 but not really an issue. I am considering picking up the Formula wheel for other games. When playing ACC on PS5 there are not enough buttons on the McLaren wheel to get the full experience the game offers.
Hi, owning both wheels, I agree with you, though, contrary to my expectations, I end up liking the smaller v2.5 because; Besides the differences you mentioned; 1- The smaller size v2.5 makes me feel more in control, to feel better the feedback compared to the larger McLaren. 2- The smaller size also makes me feel more comfortable on those turns which forces me to crossover my arms, where the larger McLaren (therefore other larger wheels) require more crossing my arms in those positions.🙏👋
Everybody has is one taste, i dont want to critique you, but i feel that the formula is to small and i prefer the mclaren wheel, but every person is diferent and i respect, and i feel also with the formula that is more heavy and my base gt dd pro 8nm i feel that lose power because is more heavy... but is maybe my base that as a little power shortage i dont know... stay good and good racing
You can easily bind a 2nd clutch to anything on your current wheel for standing starts, just FYI if people didn’t already know and that will eliminate bogs and wheel spin on standing starts.
The McLaren with the qr2 is fantastic ,only missing the APM… is one of the best shifter on the market But both wheels are top ❤ A must have for the McLaren is the lovely sticker ❤
Great video, i am looking for a new wheel rim and it is out of these two. I mainly play GT7 and have been told that the rotary enconders cannot be mapped, i wondered if this is still the case and if so, are there any other buttons that cannot be used for GT7 on either wheel, cheers.
Get the McLaren GT3 wheel. You will have the basic functionality with the buttons so no point of getting the more expensive F1 wheel when you won’t be able to use the extra functionality in GT7. The McLaren hasn’t left my base since I got it.
As Mclaren has the same size as DD extreme wheel, just get DD extreme for GT/rally and xbox formula v2.5 for F1. Then you will have the best for both pc and consoles.
Dude, you might have saved me. One quick google search shows they are bankrupt and struggling badly. I wouldn't worry about failure to recieve the product per say, but this defintely means that anyone could be stuck without customer support or parts for the rest of the product life.
Corsair took over Fanatec and they are back in business. I have ordered an entire set: v2.5x, CSL DD 8nm, CSL LC pedals and a table clamp on Tuesday evening, so they started processing it on Wednesday and it comes to me today, on Friday, from Germany to Poland in 3 days
I mate, I think that a good deal could be a new gt3 steering wheel with the quality of the v2.5 and the diameter of the mclaren"s. I hope to see fanatec news in the next ATAC in Germany like a new High-end pedals set and new steering wheel. Bye
Not sure what this guy is smoking. There is a lot of flex on McLaren GT3 wheel. If they would release Podium version of it this will be THE best wheel Fanatec has to offer. Also, using QR2-Pro is just a waste of money. QR2 is more than enough.
@SIMRIG412 what about the quick release? I heard you not only need the mag cable, but also a qr2 and a mounting adapter for that. I have a DD+ that has a Qr2 base side
i've got both, and never use the 2.5. i modded my mclaren to have magnetic shifters, Q1 Release and alloy knobs.

I also have the McLaren for GT7. But i cant map the rotary dials either, not only the red leavers.
Is a bigger wheel not better for handling?

Thank you. You answered the question I had. And that was which offers greater driving fidelity.

Really no information, that V2.5 have vibration but GT3 doesn't?

The stock qr1 on the mclaren wheel does limit the torque? Upgrading to qr2 lite does resolve the problem? Or do I have to get normal qr2?
Can you please do a video on your in game configuration of the v2.5 wheel? I would really appreciate looking at the button mapping you use. Thanks

The button locations and stiffness on the McLaren are bad versus the Formula.
I was waiting for this video! Does the McLaren wheel works with the standard Quick Release, the QR Lite Wheel-Side?
Qr1 lite comes in the package with the McLaren, both wheel work with qr1 and qr2
Will the 2.5 map to the podium wheel settings in GT7?
@@ChristopherMCross DD extreme preset is now available in GT7. Only rotary encoders won't have full functionality.
Hi, does the McLaren fitted with the QR2 allow the full 15Nm from the DD+?
It does, but you probably won't need it.
I think both of those wheels are great, if I get one it will be the Mclaren, I’m trying to decide if I want to save for an Asetek wheel and pedal set.

@@tamasvarga67 Nice one, thank you.
When using the APM with the Formula V2.5 what do the top 2 paddles map to in GT7?
@@l888-1 for me mapped as indicators
@@DigitRacingDG Thanks for the reply, Im assuming the paddles are mappable in GT7
@@l888-1 kinda, not exactly in the preset, you have to replace with existing buttons that are in the game
no one gets the qr2 pro tho
i love the formula wheel, but my hands hurting like hell, i go too bye the gt neo from simagic with the srm coverter

I would be very careful about sending any money to Fanatec at this moment in time the company is in turmoil and may fail or be sold at any moment

I buy stuff from Fanatec all the time, have had zero problems

I have bouth and i use the mclaren more the formula v2.5 is to small if the formula had the same lenght it was perfect, so mc laren is better for me
Are the extra paddles on the advanced module mappable in GT7?
Yes, I use them for my turn signals lmao

Neither just buy the simagic gt Neo wheel and maglink
