Your so kind to inform us of the down falls of using a marker. I never knew it will show up in the Cold weather, even after ironing it away.

Good morning! I’m so glad that I was able to teach you, and a few others, that those marks from the Frixion pens are not gone. I had made quilting lines all over the front of a purse and ended up having them come back when I walked outside in cold weather. I was horrified and learned my lesson right then and there… that they are never truly gone. Now I only mark where it can’t be seen.

Good morning and shall I say … happy belated birthday? I’m sorry I missed it and hope it was a good one. Yes, the iron can make a huge difference in things and I think sometimes people don’t realize just how much. That little iron that I have gets very hot, but it doesn’t have the weight or the amount of steam it takes to flatten those darts, and therefore the bigger iron made a difference in this case. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a great week Terrie!

I try to mention it from time to time, but I realized it had been quite some time since I had talked about it. When Frixion pens were first all the rage, I went out and bought some and used one to make quilting lines on a purse for myself. I ironed the marks away and never thought another thing about it until early autumn when I went somewhere with a friend and she was staring at my purse and finally she said “what is all over your purse?” and I realized that every mark I had made with that red Frixion pen was back. Of course, heat would make it go away again, but not really. I’m so glad I was able to inform you so that you know. I know there are a couple of RUclipsrs who keeps saying to use them and that the iron will remove them and I always want to correct them and tell them. I did that once and one of them didn’t like it and was very nasty to me so I haven’t tried again to correct anyone on their own channel. Even though I tried to do it tactfully, I guess it wasn’t appreciated, ha ha. Anyway, I’m glad I could help you out!

I made a couple of bowl cozies 2 years ago, the tutorial said to use cotton batting without lint for heating up in the MW. I found it at Walmart next to the regular cotton batting.
I stopped making them because of the bulkiness and broken or bent needles, but I will try again with your ironing trick.
Since my kitchen walls are red, will be doing them in red as well.

Good morning, Gundi! Yes, sometimes it could be tricky to find a 100% cotton batting. I have had needles bend and break, too. That’s when I tried out the iron to see if that made a difference and it truly made a huge difference for me. I hope you have better luck trying them again. Be sure to let me know how it turns out. Have a great first week of your new year!

Thx, Marie. Like your style 😀
Ive been cutting my cotton batting about 3/8" smaller all around & that has helped with the bulk situation a good deal.
My Juki handles it much better. At the same time, I'm using 4 lines of stitching to sew the batting into each square. That will keep it from shifting when it's not caught up in the top stitching. I was sure i saw you do some cozies with binding and a loop for hanging, but couldn't find it in a search. I'm going to try that, besides rounding the corners (making some larger ones). Thx for the tips! Helpful!! btw, I luv RED in the kitchen. Think APPLES, yes.🍎
And we luv'd your fall leaves potholders, too. Made quite a few sets for gifts & all luv'd them.

Hi! You’re very welcome! I have tried cutting the batting shorter, as you mentioned, but I tend to find the iron works better for me. But you know how it goes, we all find what works best for us. As far as the other bowl cozies you mentioned, this is actually my only video on them, so maybe it’s another RUclipsr that you were thinking of? But, thank you for thinking of me, ha ha! I’d love to take credit, because that sounds interesting, ha ha. I did make a set of potholders with binding and a hanging loop, though. Let me know if you’d like the link to that. @TheStaffOfLife You're welcome! Marie what type of darker color pen do you like best if you need to make marks on outside of fabric? I recently bought a pink pen at a locally owned quilt shop in my small town that says it erases by mystery air...im suspicious of this so i keep trying to use the little chalk device. I havent figured out if there isnt a right or wrong way to roll it to dispense the chalk...so results vary😂😂

    • @MariesScrappyCreations
      @MariesScrappyCreations  Год назад

Hi! I've had some issues finding a good marker, myself. I've tried so many, with varying results. I just don't trust the "iron off" ones, since when I used the Frixion pens, the marks came back in the cold. I realize that the frixion pens weren't made for fabric, but that's where that type of pen started making me nervous. I am going to drop a link to the latest ones I tried. Now, they do "iron off", which has worked so far, but I also wash the items I marked with a wet washcloth to be sure the marks are gone. This works great on smaller projects, such as my small zipper bags , but that would not be ideal for larger projects. I have tried four different chalk type marking utensils and I didn't like any of them. I'm sorry i'm not much help. Unfortunately, I just don't feel that there are enough options available.

Anyway, that’s a good question, Colleen. First, my new semi industrial Brother is sitting on the side table because I needed to have the table to put it on. The table arrived on Saturday, after I had filmed this tutorial. The stand that my singer sewing machine is on will only hold up to 25 pounds and as you know, a brother sewing machine weighs over 10 pounds more than that so I don’t dare put it there. It’s too hard to get a camera angle on it where it was sitting. Secondly, I wanted to show this on the regular home sewing machine so that people realize that they can work through the thickness on a regular sewing machine. As far as the walking foot, sometimes I use it, sometimes I don’t. I probably should have mentioned that they could use it when making one. I hope you have a great week and a wonderful start to a new year, happy sewing!

@@MariesScrappyCreations Oh...I see :) I hope you're feeling better and I sincerely hope you will love your new Brother machine as much as I've loved mine. I always hesitate to make recommendations for anything to anyone because we all are different and what I like and has worked for me doesn't always mean it will be the same for someone else. I agree that you try to do too much and I think a new schedule will be better for you mentally as well as physically. I should be eating low carb, too, but I find it very difficult to change at 76...haha. I applaud you for your diligence. Hope to see you soon :)

@@colleenbaker2310 I am feeling much better, thank you. I just really needed some time just to concentrate on myself, things around here and just take a breath, really. To be honest, I didn’t expect my channel to grow as fast as it did and it just seemed to overtake me all at once. I tend to be a person who overdoes everything. I do a lot for a lot of people and sometimes I forget to take care of myself, if that makes sense. Anyway, as far as the sewing machine goes, I know I’m going to love it! I ordered a Gidget 2 sewing table and it arrived on Saturday, but it was broken (One of the leg pieces can’t go into place, so I can’t place the machine on it yet). I called Ken’s Sewing Center and they are contacting Arrow, the company that manufactures the table and hopefully they’re going to send me the replacement part I need. I only wish I could put my new brother on my existing sewing table, but it’s only rated for 25 pounds, so I don’t dare. I might email you from time to time if I have a question about the machine, if that is OK?

Thanks for all the tips. Those heat erasable marking pens are like mood rings. The color comes back when it is warm. You can eliminate that problem by washing the fabric and getting rid of the marker. But, that is not always practical. I have a lot of red fabric, that gets darker when ironed. Happy New Year!

Good morning! Well, it seems you taught me something, as well. I didn’t know that the marks from the Frixion pens washed out. I knew they did from the washable markers, but I didn’t know that about the Frixion pens. You’re a wealth of knowledge! Hope you have a great first week of the new year!

@@MariesScrappyCreations This is directly from the Madam Sew Website. "• In very rare cases, the pens may leave ghost marks after erasing with your iron. You can remove those marks by hand washing.
      • The marks come back when you expose them to a temperature below 32F/0°C. If you have made something that will be exposed to freezing cold, be sure to wash the marks out. A machine wash will not completely remove the marks, though hand washing your project will remove the ink and prevent the marks from reappearing.
      • Don't expose your unfinished projects to direct, strong sunlight near windows or in your car for as long as you still need the marks. The marks will disappear when exposed to high temperatures.
      • We advise you to cap the pens tightly after use. Be sure to use your pens within 5 months after purchase. The special gel ink doesn’t stay fresh forever, and they may dry out. So don’t stock up too many refills. At MadamSew we always have a fresh stock for you.
      • Don’t throw away your pen casings if you run out of marking ink. You can order refills at our store, MadamSew.com."

@@dickworrall123 Thank you for that information. Is she talking about another brand of pens/markets or Frixion brand pens? I'm wondering if there is a difference.
