I've made a bunch of these. This tutorial is great. Like a few others have mentioned; if you're going to use these in the microwave, everything--fabric, thread, batting, needs to be 100% cotton. Anything else will melt or catch fire.
Wonderful tutorial! Just a note...You must make sure that all your fabric and batting is 100% cotton. If not it could melt or cause a fire in the microwave. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Over the years I've come back to this tutorial as I make these for gifts. I still chuckle about 8 minutes. I take about 8 minutes just to turn it right side out😂
😍😍So sorry I am just catching this .I am trying to catch up on the comments. Hope to do better in the future. Thanks for watching our lives. We appreciate it !!!!!!
You really do a great job in teaching how - step by step direction & whys. Thank you. I like the wall hanging behind you also. Are you going to demonstrate that?
The wall hanging was our previous video- make sure to check out our channel and subscribe for our weekly videos! Thank you for watching! ~~ Take care, Brody
Fyi, only use batting that is 100% cotton or batting specific for use in a microwave oven as resins and battings with metallic bits in them can catch fire when used in the microwave. Thanks for the tutorial.😊
If you use in the microwave to cook or heat the bowl full of food. all fabric, batting and thread needs to be 100% cotton. Otherwise it can cause a fire. This what I was told in a class. If you aren’t going to put it in the microwave then yes you can use other materials. I hope that helps. If you find out different please let me know too. Thank you
That’s what I was told also. But knowing how things change was just making sure. I was told to put a pice of the fabric in microwave to see if it melts or burn. Thank you for your reply.
You put the bowl with the food y want to heat into the fabric bowl, then put it into the microwave and heat the food. Then you can use the fabric bowl to lift everything out of the microwave to wherever you want to eat. The fabric bowl acts like a formed hot pad to prevent burning your fingers while removing the hot food from the microwave. It also allows you to safely transport the hot food to wherever you plan on eating. Have a great day.
Well we just used what we were told was 100 percent cotton batting. It scorched at 2 minutes. What length of time and temperature setting is safe to use in microwave. Our fabric and thread did not scorch. They were 100 percent cotton
I've been making these but i seem to have a hard time with bulk when im sewing the finishing stitches-right at the darts. Any suggestions? Thank you. Love to see men sewing.
Very nice. Just make sure to add to your video that all fabrics, batting and threads MUST be 100% Cotten no poly or poly blends. Will melt in the microwave
@@SewYeah Ya think? 😂😂😂🤣🤣 I had to time myself last year because I needed to know what to charge my neighbor. I probably could’ve shaved it down to maybe 45 minutes. I have 17 to make starting tonight won’t that be fun, not
Okay I believe the trick is too get all the prep work done and then doing the sewing! 😊so one day do prep the next day do sewing! It is working better for me ! It only took me about half an hour to do one! Now so I will definitely get a bunch cut and marked than see! Just like cooking prep work than cooking!! ❤
@@cherylgooden7073 that’s what I did when I had to make an additional 17 last month. I didn’t time myself because I wasn’t going to be charging. These were gifts for the people that take care of my mother in the assisted living facility. Most people don’t really time themselves you’d be surprised how long some of these things take to make, including all of the steps
I agree to do in stages. I am currently working on an intricate granny square long cardigan so I do 94 squares one row at a time rather than one whole square at a time. Job will go much faster this way. I would also add a hanging loop to the opening before stitching closed.
Hi thank you for all you share I love all your projects I would like to know if you could make a video where you can show us how to sew a food carrier I would appreciate thank you so much for your help.

5 yrs later...that was the easiest one ive seen yet! I dont understand the need for the rectangle, if i could just mark the 2 places to draw the dart line, but then im not the sharpest rotary blade in the box either. 🙄 😂❤
But Why? Is it to cover the top of your balls to stop food splashing all over the microwave? Or is it to put underneath your balls so you don't burn your hands when you take them out? I don't understand the point of them, though they are very pretty.
They are a great way to cover your food to keep it warm, or keep flies off when you are outside. They can go in the microwave if you need to use them to warm up the food. Thanks so much for watching! We hope you come back again soon!😊💕

What about stains and splashes? More washing, more detergent and more drying time. Why not use a microwavable glass or ceramic plate to cover your dish? It might rattle a bit when in the microwave but will be no more of a problem than bursting plastic, over-spill from dishes that are too small, or any hotter to lift out (steam from the food will heat and wet up the cloth and batting and could cause scalding) Isn't batting plastic/polyester? Both glass/ceramic dish and plate can be washed at the same time, no food left on them to grow mold, no extra storage to find. I grew up in the days before plastic wrap and microwave ovens and have managed mostly without either of them though I do have a microwave oven.
Hi Margaret! This video is a bit misleading in that it is not a bowl cover, but rather a bowl cozy for use in the microwave. You place your food into your bowl then place the bowl into the bowl cozy. Place into microwave to reheat the food. The rounded points of the cozy allow you to lift the very hot bowl out of the microwave without burning fingers or hands.
Great job on your video. I followed your tutorial, and I thank you for the video ❤👍

Linda Daley absolutely AND the thread must bee 100% cotton, also the 100% cotton batting should not contain any scrim!👍
Thank you for the tip! Hope you enjoyed!
@@mgs783 What is scrim?
@@sherryparks6846 I think it's like a filler, little bits of other stuff that may not be cotton.
Does the thread need to be 100%cotton, too?
I love this. No fancy expensive tools to buy.
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!!
I've been looking for an easy pattern for these. Thanks for sharing!!
This is so much easier than the other videos I watched. Thanks this gave me back my confidence with sewing.

I’ve never used batting before. I bought the kind that can be microwaved. Do I need to soak the batting since it’s cotton?

Not sure there is a time limit.
What would the measurements for the darts be for a 16” square? Thank you!
