Here's a tip guys. If you're on desktop/laptop version of RUclips. Put this video into a playlist and play it from there. You can then go into the custom speed settings to adjust the speed of the video by 0.5 increments. So you can adjust all the exercises slower/faster to match your own growth. As I have cranked up the amount of content that I'm doing consistently. It would really help me if I can do shorter videos and not record so many different tempos per exercise, so that I can get on to the next video. There's so much left to share and create. I wish you all the best consistency, patience, and practice on your double bass journey. Don't stop dreaming, and don't stop drumming!

thank you for all of the work you've put into this channel over the past decade, all your viewers appreciate everything you do. You're an amazing teacher and definitely with your skills and knowledge, you can definitely make it big
Never expected anybody to thank me for a decade of work. But I just want to make everyone happier with their drumming and lives. If I make it big in the process, it's just so that I can reach more people like you who would benefit. I absolutely appreciate you. You're an OG 😊
Hello, Thank you for your amazing top quality educational drumming videos. I have been struggling for many years with my double kick speed. Only now i've realised my technique is totally wrong and i've not been using ankle technique to break that 150bpm+ barrier. My left foot which is my weaker side, is so much more elevated in the heel up position on the pedal compared to my right which is a lot more flat footed, i've tried many different seat heights and distance, it doesn't really change. i think that may just be my natural comfortable position. The absolute HARDEST barrier for me to break through is CONTROLLING various speeds (130bpm+) using ankle technique with single stroke 8th notes, just like you explained in the video. Can be bloody demoralising. so frustating!! i will keep on practising, i've neglected this for YEARS. NO MORE! Thanks again mate.
Oh hey this is an old video though so I suggest also checking out my latest double bass routines. Just go to my channel and search double bass routine. There are 2. Involves a lot of what I'm saying in this video but also a few additional very important exercises. Those should get you on the right track with your practice for now. Thanks for the heartfelt comment and sharing your struggles. I hope you'll finally see some solid progress in the last half of 2024

Hi, I've been doing this exercice consistently for a week now and I can already feel the progress, so thanks a lot ! Also now wearing ankle weights as advised by Gene Hoglan and heck yeah this also brings a complete difference when you remove them you are flying on the pedals !
That's fast progress! Glad it works for you and I've tried ankle weights before too :) the extra load could give your muscles more push and growth. Thanks for sharing your experience with these exercises!!
Hand soloing? Could you elaborate? If it's to play different patterns on my hands while keeping 16th note base I don't practice that so can't do much of it. Thanks 👍
Hey ! Art of drumming thanks for responding yes it is one of my passions to solo over 16 notes on the bass drums some of my favorite drummers Tommy Aldridge and Mickey d and Joe Franco have that style if you're not familiar with it if you go on my page there's a couple of videos up where I do some drum solos and you can check it out it has a lot to do with playing very soft and accenting making it feel like a groove. By using Dynamics as I got started I played very slow and very low volume and it just got easier and better over time as long as you don't blast full out you can get into a flow it became possible for me to solo over the bass drums over time I started it when I was 20 years old. I'm 63 still love it. Well thanks again love all your videos my best to you.if you want subscribe to my page if you haven't I subscribed to your page a while back great exercises happy drumming 😆
@ArtOfDrummingHQ I wish I could share my practice videos with you to get some coaching feedback on if I'm correctly utilizing these new methods. I've played mixed heel down/up but never really focused on my bass drum technique so this is all fairly new as far as focusing on correct technique. I've been playing since I was 10 and I'll be 42 on the 18th. So this is really a test of determination as well as discipline in focusing.
Man just practicing this on the floor with air drums was TOUGH, but was already in one attempt helping my brain strain and focus to get the information between the various limbs! I'll be coming back to this lesson during the week :D *edit* I commented before I was thinking about a new video request for leg position and movement and you tagged that at the end. Me too. I'm more used to heavier pedals, but I also play a lighter pedal at home. You can crank up the spring tension to compensate on your lighter pedal and it usually helps :D Thanks man hope your double bass gets better!!!
To increase my foot speed and develop foot muscles I used to do tabada which is very effective exercise it's not only develop muscles and increase seed but it also helps in gaining control to your lower limbs
Oh yes tabata workouts are quite nice, good to incorporate for anyone! If you notice exercise 2 is a interval based workout with a short burst, then a longer burst, for 8 cycles. Great suggestion man cheers!
@@ArtOfDrummingHQ after few days im doing these exercises and i already feel much comforteble with double pedal, please continue your youtube. ur great
Wow glad you hear that :D if you need some more tips, I'm releasing some more double bass tips one by one. Here's one highlighting what tempos you can aim for with your thighs/calves ruclips.net/user/shortsKf72e5PvZnU?feature=share Appreciate you telling me your progress!
Try each one for a whole cycle as per the video's demonstrations. Then try another, and then another. I recommend 3-5 of those cycles. But It really depends on where you're at skill/fitness/age wise. Maybe your muscles can take more punishment, maybe they can't. So you got to try let's say 3 cycles, then see how it goes the next day, and add or subtract from it to find a good balance of growth/fatigue/rest. I do at least 3 cycles 4 times a week now. But I could have tried as many as 10 some months ago. Sometimes I overdid it and got leg injuries so I immediately stopped and rest. Sometimes I felt like I could push myself more. Hope this helps!
Thank You so much for your exzellent Videos. Maybe you'll male a video about the Ankle Motion? I'm struggeling since 2 Years, I have patience but I ca only start with this damn "nervous twitching motion". After 5-10 Minutes I have an big Beaterswing, but I can't control the motion. It must be around 210 BPM, but it's useless without controlling it and slow down the Tempo. Thanx for your Support ❗👌🏻
part of it lies in the strength and control of your muscle groups to twitch at the specific slower tempos. Have you tried my latest double bass routine yet? ruclips.net/video/SM-Wc6AOki0/видео.htmlsi=mLpAHkHoY1HJqLrk It incorporates exercises at the beginning to strengthen all your necessary muscle groups! To play slower comfortably actually requires a bit of both your thigh/hip and ankles, different combinations. So ensuring all your muscle groups are developed will help you play well at a larger tempo range. The other parts are whether your pedals are adjusted to suit you. And this is something I wanna look at making more detailed content around in 2024. But I have some shorts about foot position, spring tension that you should check out too! ruclips.net/video/OYcnJWhlguk/видео.htmlsi=P0R9H-ph1v79BskC

They should be done in order, Exercise 1 - 2 - 3, just once through. Then that's where you can do another 1 to 5 sets. It depends on how much time you have,. If I don't have much time that day because of unforeseen circumstances, I at least can do away with 1 set. If I have my usual longer practice sessions, I go for 5 sets then go on to work on some other double bass vocabulary stuff. You also have to take into consideration your muscle strength and fatigue levels. I recommend 3 times at least a week because you don't want to push too hard. Muscles once properly worked out must have 24 hours to recover and grow. If not they cannot grow under constant fatigue and no rest. But some people are fitter than others and their muscles need to take more of a beating, some start out weaker and they can't take too much beating before serious fatigue sets in. So it's always a trial and error thing at the beginning, try 5 sets, see how that feels the next day. Keep experimenting with duration and no. of days per week until you understand your optimal condition and then roll with that. It's a very detailed topic hence I will put everything into the next couple of double bass videos. Hope this helps for now!
Thanks for an actual video them shorts might be good for your channel but suck if ur trying to learn drums, u can't save them to a play list or slow them down etc unless I am being an idiot lol

Most people on these boards and forums are old heads and are just used to flat foot stomping till 180bpm I guess... Well after that, I just got really mad and deleted all my posts, because these different opinions are POLLUTING the progress and urged me to change my settings every 2 weeks... which is very bad obviously, when I was just about to make progress and advance in my playing!! So in short: Stick to one method, one style, one setup YOU like and feel comfortable with and practise that for 4-6months! A lot of people on these online forums dont know jack and you could not even check on their skills, if they are qualified to give any expertise advice!!! With RUclipsrs you atleast see what they can do.
