Foster Brooks was the only person in this whole series of Dean Martin Roasts who consistently destroyed the dais every time he appeared, especially Dean Martin. Always my favourite roaster. Thanks Mr. Brooks.
His routine is less than six minutes, there isn't a single vulgar word, and he totally owns the stage. He has Don Rickles about to cry, he's laughing so hard, and the others on stage as well. Pure talent, class, and confidence.
Wouldn't you just once have loved the camera to pan back so you could watch the whole table of guests react? My gosh...I've never ever heard Don Rickles laugh so hard in my life!
I've actually had the fortune of meeting Don Rickles once, many years ago at the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. It was his last performance after having done around 30 years there. Truly a class act. He was a pistol off stage as well as when he was on. He was the best at his style of comedy. Foster was in great company the night they roasted Don!
It's mind-boggling when you think of all the comedy legends on the stage alone. I've noticed that there are some in attendance who are in the audience. I mean, wow! I see a very diverse table of people up there. In this day and age, when all people want to do is call each other racists, these people actually made fun of themselves and each other and laughed about it.
Foster Brooks was great....he would do the drunk bit almost at every roast and he always pulled it off without it ever getting old and worn out.....classic old school comedian.
You notice how these guys can rib each other, bring wives and significant others into the joke, and everyone knows it's pure humor. No one is taking a swing at anyone or spewing profanities. It'll never be like that again.
I am sooo glad I found this. To see Don Rickles overcome with laughter and Dean Martin wiping tears put of his eyes is classic! I watch it regularly and keep skipping back to the 5 minut mark to hear Rickles " cackling" with laughter.
I'm a Brit and I just love this old time Yanky humour, delivered by exceptional professionals. These were the days when we knew how to take it on the chin and were not looking to be offended 24hours a day, or offended on behalf of others. Shame to think they're all gone, because we'll not see their like again.
copferthat That's what truly breaks the heart. I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but the FCC in committed an act of war when they took Saturday morning cartoons off the air. When I was a kid (before I got into school) I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons and Saturday night British comedies.

I remember watching this as a kid. We'd watch these roasts just to watch Foster Brooks. He never disappointed. Even my folks, who hardly ever laughed at anything, were in tears. RIP Foster Brooks. You were a credit to your craft!!
What is so amazing about Foster Brooks is that he never breaks character. I don't think I have ever seen him crack a smile or laugh while in character doing his bit. When you have a room full of people laughing it's extremely difficult not to laugh at what you just said or did. He was definitely the tops at his game.
Yes, and as soon as his bit is over, he *COMPLETELY* breaks out of character and becomes his regular self. I saw this show when it first aired---I was eighteen.
Foster Brooks was no Harvey Korman who couldn't hold a straight face telling a joke even if his life depended on it. Brooks was in a class by himself. He was just side-splitting funny and to think he never drank . LOL.

Pure, unadulterated talent, the likes of which we haven't seen since. Alas, the new comics base their routines on profanities and denigration. Foster Brooks was truly a class act. Loved that man 😅😂

When a man like Foster Brooks can make professional comics laugh just by walking to the podium, & the antipation, well that man is a TRUE COMIC ABOVE OTHERS!
It is totally and virtually impossible to keep a straight face while watching this video, the intense uncontrollable laughter of everyone present is so extremely contagious that you just can not help but laugh just as hard as everyone else, except for Foster Brooks himself, how on earth does he keep such a straight face while going through such an intoxicatingly hilarious routine, he is truly an amazing unbelievable comedian! it would be the ultimate challenge to watch it without laughing as he does! Every time i need a break from life problems and need some laugh, i watch these roasts. Seeing Dean laughing so hard, its incredible.
I totally agree!
I watch this almost daily...absolutely fabulous. Sure miss the good old days.
Brooks had no equal. He could just stand there and have his audience in convulsions. I remember those roasts and always looked forward to the shows where he appeared. This one is a classic.
"As the Puerto Rican gentleman just tooooooold you" lmao
when this country was the greatest, no one got upset and we all laughed together....
He was a rarity in the world of humor, very, very funny. If he wrote his own material, he was genius.
And he's completely sober while doing his toast/roast. Brilliant
and he had a wonderful singing voice
NOBODY bashed
Rickles like that.
Bravo Foster.
Even when I was a drunk i couldn't get it right
@@jasonvandervalk3679 LOL
When you can bring Rickles to laugh with tears than you're a genius!
I can watch this a thousand times and still laugh
i watch these clips of the old roasts when ever i feel down and it only takes a minute to cheer me up...shame they dont make them like this anymore
This is one of the great things about youtube. I'm only in my 20s but I really wish I had been around to enjoy the 70s. Foster Brooks has never failed to put a smile on my face.
Todd Davis
It's stuff like the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts and clips from the Muppet Show that make me comment
#makebadjokesgreatagain
Sure don't!
It doesn't get any better than this folks!
A classic that will never get old.
I watched these roasts with my parents when I was a kid... we always waited for Foster Brooks to come on. We laughed so hard. And I remember this very roast! And the other comedians there that night, such as Dan Rowan and Dick Martin... simply wonderful!
Me too! 100%!!!!
By the end, me, Grandpa and Granny Mac were gasping for breath! Good memories of better days.
When a man like Foster Brooks can make professional comics laugh just by walking to the podium, & the antipation, well that man is a TRUE COMIC ABOVE OTHERS!
You nailed it!
Right on you figured it out
Steven Vensky Your are so right ,we need more people like him to make us laugh again
Foster Brooks is an idiot
@@BigfootBionic You don't get to be president of NBC for being an idiot. That's reserved for your current POTUS.
How can he sound so serious and keep a straight face while doing this, pure genius
5:01 "...Mrs. Wicker, Wickle, Wick, Rickles..."
Best line ever!! Damned funny to make Rickles lose it like that!
I don't think a person can laugh any harder than that, and not have a myocardial infarction. 🥵💔
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Just pure comic genus.
Look at how Jack Klugman is looking is looking at Foster He's not laughing as though he is offended
When you’re feeling shit it’s good to listen to this.
Best freaking roast ever! Watched it a hundred times, still laugh like the first time...Foster Brooks slayed this one!
One of the top 5 comic things I have ever seen. It NEVER gets old!
Unless you are complete without a sense of humor!
What a performance. Rickles knows he is in for it and loses it as soon as Foster walks up to the dais and gives him a look. A classic.
"You have a very lovely home. Incidently, you're out of Scotch" I lost it
@Michael M. It's my fault, I answered her ad in the Hollywood Free Press :) :) :) :) I died over that!!!!
My daughter fell to the floor laughing at that line....these guys made comedy an 'Art'. Fascinating!
At this point I'm in tears; no one has intentions to offend; just pure laughter.
Me too!! LOLOL!!!
I'm crying
Arguably the best single bit in all of the Dean Martin Roasts.
It was !
"It's not your wife's fault; I answered her ad in the Hollywood Free Press..."
PRICELESS!!!
What a gentleman lol.
By far to date, one of the funniest roasts ever.
These were absolutely brilliant I never get sick of watching these
Pure genius at work, you can tell he really loves and admires Don by how oustanding his performance was.
Timeless comedy.. I watch this when I need a good laugh!!! Amazing comedian at his best... Never seen Don Rickles laugh out so hard...
