Not one curse word, not one vulgar comment , completely void of bathroom humor or hate humor... and hysterically funny...what an absolute genius Jonathan Winters was...thnkyou sir for making so many happy. R.I.P
You Never knew where he was going. I don't think he had any scripts. He would just take us on the journey wherever the winds of his mind pushed us. A true Brilliance.
There's not a moment of dead air in that whole ad-lib masterpiece. The absolute best there ever was. How could you not want to be around him? Imagine if there was an after party with those heavies. Pure nirvana
Of all the roast I've watched, of all the comedians that got up there and did their bits, Don Rickles included... this is the funniest 8 minutes ever done... it's pure gold... Dean Martin is absolutely losing it and his laughter is not fake... it's no wonder why Robin Williams looked up to Winters
Just found the Guy Marks/Michael Landon thing you mentioned; I liked to asphyxiate from laughing so hard! Thanks for the tip. Anybody else got some of these Roast thingies? There's another one I saw a few years back and I can't remember now who it was, it was about as funny as these two.
I like how he comes out of nowhere with his Big Chief chant/song, it caught me totally by surprise. Rickles and Martin are falling off their chairs with laughter over this guy, really fun to watch them losing it while Marks is up there singing/chanting away ....
Mr. Winters was the best comedian ever. At that particular time there were ''true'' comedians who could have made you laugh for hours and certainly Mr. Winters was the best of them all.
My father was in the Marine Corps with Jonathan Winters. He said he was a riot and as strong as a bull. I always bring my laptop when I visit him and we watch these videos together. Thanx youtube and everyone who uploads these classics!
He taps into what can only be described as midwestern madness...his references are so arcane and bizarre...how he kept a straight face, I'll never know, because he had everyone else falling off their chairs from laughter.
@Peace World Sorry, but with comedy, if you have to take time to explain it, well . . . it just won't work. Jonathan Winters was so funny, you should be laughing even if you understand little to nothing.
People, that is pure comic genius! Like others have said, it takes real talent to be so hilarious! Winters could go on for a long stretch and never miss a beat. Thank you for saving this piece of real brilliance!
When life gets a bit too much and down I return to my comfort blanket of decent brilliant comedy like Jonathan Winters and others on the Roasts like Nipsey, the brilliant Don Rickles and my utter fave Foster Brooks. It makes me smile every time Dean has a fit of giggles and Don's genuine dirty sounding belly laugh. Gone but not for gotten You legends.
Me too. I've seen this clip countless times and it never bores me. Winters was an incredible, irreplacable talent who is a joy to behold. His ad lib's, which I'm sure most of this sequence was is beyond incredible. Sinatra's uncontrollable laughter is obviously genuine and validates Winters talent with full honours. Peter Falk's turn on the same show is equally superb.
Peace World Once you understand this guy you will definitely be a master of English, you have to understand 50s culture as well as understand certain tropes of English comedy and the absurd imagery mixed in with the understanding of who these people are Frank Sinatra especially. It will be a worthwhile journey my friend
absolutely the best improv I've ever seen Johnathan do. I continue to come back over and over to watch this genius's spot on Dean martin's Roast. He was totally hitting on all cylinders this night. .....Hilarious ! ....and what an ending ..." I wish I had something to give you....I had something but was rolled on the way over " ....My God he was funny this night !
He was very intelligent and well read and miles ahead of his time. He was unique and had the respect of everyone. Though it may not mean much now, Cosby said he was the best , by far. When I watch comedians today I'm left rather cold, not their fault , but how do you measure up to a comic genius like Jonathan Winters?
If you haven't already seen it, check out the RUclips clip of Winters and Robin Williams together on Johnny Carson. You'll almost cry from laughing so hard. Man! Those two were red hot that night!
Mr. Winters was the best comedian ever. At that particular time there were ''true'' comedians who could have made you laugh for hours and certainly Mr. Winters was the best of them all.
He did this look left look right look. left thing with his eyes half opened like a chubby 6 year old demon kid...He was in touch with everything. A Tesla Tower of reception.
I watched these roasts as a kid, pure gold! Yes kids this is comedy, no cussing politically charged unhinged hate. Absolute comidac genius on that Dias
Jonathan was one of the original improv guys. One night on Jack Paar, Jack gave him a stick and Jonathan did scenes using it as a violin bow, paddle, fishing pole, golf club, spear, sword and a couple of other items. Classic
I don't know how many times I've watched this but it's become a touchstone for me. This is such a great piece by such a great master of the craft. I wish more of his club performances were recorded. It's very obvious that what he performed on television was a tiny fragment of what he was capable of doing. Many comedians from this era have said as much. Hopefully the estate can let us in on anything the unearth.
Such great talent on that stage . Everyone sat on the edge of their chair when Mr. Winter was on . We could use some laughs right about now . GOD bless/rest them all . 🙏✝️💕
During the filming, Jonathan kept the other stars in stitches, and considering the fact that these were other masters of comedy that is saying a lot. Stanley Kramer said he entertained everyone from start to finish. The other comedians in the movie considered him to be a comedy genius. They would feed him lines, situations, characters and he would just go into a character and do 10, 20, 30 minutes of ad-lib comedy. Marvin Kaplan described him as being endless in his comedy invention.
Yes, JW was one of the most gifted comedians that ever took the stage. He would get in that zone with a character and just start improvising the situation into complete absurdity. Stream of consciousness comedy. That's why he was Robin William's comedic hero.
Helen Forrest (l saw her twice) sang with Benny Goodman, Harry James and Artie Shaw [three of of the 5 or 6 huge- hit bands in "those days".] She was "The Voice" of those bands.
Loved seeing Rickles laughing his head off as Jonathan roasted Frank Sinatra. I can only imagine the immense mutual respect they must have had for each other. Back then they were the only two comedians who worked without a memorized script. In later years Robin Williams was wildly successful and also worked without a memorized script. Robin was the most talented stand up comedian I've ever seen or hope to see. Robin and Don were lighting quick, so much so in fact that it was otherworldly. Unfortunately for Robin, his breakneck, rapid fire delivery was overwhelming to a good percentage of his audiences. Once he hit high gear it was impossible to slow down, he had no brakes. As a consequence of this before the laughter had enough time to die down for one of his jokes, Robin regularly gave 6 more incredibly funny things for them to laugh at. Don, Jonathan and Robin, the best of the best. RIP
This dinner is never going to be served,I have seen no food at all. That was adlibbed right off the top, sper of the moment. He was brilliant and had the rarest of qualities to never swear or use filthy antics in his comedy. R.I.P Jonathan we miss you
I’m an 80s kid, and not old enough to have watched him at work live…..but Mr. Winter has to be one of the finest comedians to ever walk the face of the earth. No vulgarity, no snide remarks, totally clean and I need help breathing. What sheer awesome talent, wish we had clean comedy like this today.
Golden. I recall watching The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters TV show as a kid. His comedy was amazing. Our family would watch and die laughing. So funny, and without a single curse word or vulgar reference. Pure gold... Comics like he, Don Rickles, Paul Lynde made life richer. Sadly, most of the comics of our time couldn't make anyone laugh without the vulgarity. Jim Bruer is an exception (and is hilarious!), and so is Steve Trevinio? Sebastian started that way, and is slipping in some vulgarity... The Chappelle's of the world, and all their vulgarity, coarsen society, and we see where that has led-where is chivalry?
The classy old guard of the 20th century. Will never be equalled or replaced.
Amen brother! 👍👍💕💕🤣🤣🤣
There will never be any thing or any body better
Not one curse word, not one vulgar comment , completely void of bathroom humor or hate humor... and hysterically funny...what an absolute genius Jonathan Winters was...thnkyou sir for making so many happy. R.I.P
Amen
I know Pacer what you mean. Comedians nowadays think you have to be crude and vulgar to be funny but they're very wrong.
Big Bill O'Reilly really dude?
Red Skeleton was the same way. Never used a curse word on his shows. And he was equally a genius.
No one will ever come close to his spontaneity .
You Never knew where he was going. I don't think he had any scripts. He would just take us on the journey wherever the winds of his mind pushed us. A true Brilliance.
Greg Garrison has said that Winters and Don Rickles were the only performers on Dean’s shows who never had prepared material. It was always ad libbed.
That's the comedians schtick, making us think it's just made up. Would have gone over it many times.
Jonathan was the greatest. He just takes on the persona completely.
@Peace World its a joke
He was truly brilliant. I am so glad to have grown up with his wonderful humor. No one will ever replace him. Rest in Peace.
The sheer courage and chops to improvise like that is what is most impressive. Just follow his amazing comedic mind!
There's not a moment of dead air in that whole ad-lib masterpiece. The absolute best there ever was. How could you not want to be around him? Imagine if there was an after party with those heavies. Pure nirvana
Good lord, that was unbelievable, I was laughing as hard as Dean and Frank. A true comedy legend.
I agree. It's on an entirely different level.
Guy Marks' bit on the Michael Landon roast is up at the top also. It looks like Dean is going to have a stroke he is laughing so hard.
Mike, I have watched it many times and it still makes me howl with laughter.
I like how he comes out of nowhere with his Big Chief chant/song, it caught me totally by surprise. Rickles and Martin are falling off their chairs with laughter over this guy, really fun to watch them losing it while Marks is up there singing/chanting away ....
As much as people love Robin Williams (with good reason), they should love Jonathan that much more.
No comparison and Robin will agree.
Watch them together in Mork and Mindy
Mr. Winters was the best comedian ever. At that particular time there were ''true'' comedians who could have made you laugh for hours and certainly Mr. Winters was the best of them all.
I have watched this segment many times. It's still as funny as the first time I watched. RIP Mr Winters.
my favorite like was "I hate violence but if it comes my way I love it" I fell off my chair I was so surprised. Genius.
The world laughs less these days, Jonathan. Peace be with you.

Absolute brilliance. So many parts to Jonathan’s story.
Loved Martin's reaction. He was practically falling out of his chair, LOL!
I swear I'm totally non stop laughing, giggling and wheezing....Jonathan can crack you up like nobody's business....loved these roasts!
I am in my 60's and he Jonathan Winters is the most talented I have ever seen
Ditto
My father was in the Marine Corps with Jonathan Winters. He said he was a riot and as strong as a bull. I always bring my laptop when I visit him and we watch these videos together. Thanx youtube and everyone who uploads these classics!
Cool mcgavin! Does your father have an anecdote or two from back in the day that you could share with us?
Comedic genius with a gentle heart - Jonathan Winters.
When you have guys like Rickels laughing his ass off, you are very funny!
Brilliant comedy The best
The reaction from everyone is priceless
RIP Jonathan Winters
Jonathan Winters was the best. No profanity, no vulgar, just pure clean fun.
Jonathan Winters was a genius. Find anyone today who makes you laugh like Winters and the others from this golden age.

Everyone needs to see him no matter how old they are ! He is the funniest man now & forever ❤️
Hello Pam, How are you doing?
It is sad that the newer generations never got to see these gems
Genius! Most of his comedy was done and developed as he went along.
You know how brilliant he is when after a while you forget that it’s a performance.
I return to this video whenever I need a comedic lift. It never lets me down. Amazing !!

It'a a gas!😂😅😄😘
Johnathan is a true comic genius. Peter Falk and Johnathan were the best part of this roast. Love the dog story.
Winters never believed in the vulgarity of comedy, but to get up and basically adlib this sketch on on an idea shows a genius at work
Yep all he needed was a word. He could turn a word into a pee your pants skit.
@Peace World lol!! Lets just say you'll need to pick it up as you go a long, this guy had an amazing array of characters at his disposal
Peace World Once you understand this guy you will definitely be a master of English, you have to understand 50s culture as well as understand certain tropes of English comedy and the absurd imagery mixed in with the understanding of who these people are Frank Sinatra especially. Winters character(Elwood Suggins), lotta people like this in small town America 😁
@@todd4335 his sketches in the Dean Martin show were second to none!!
That was a piece of genius

The audio isn't the best but turn on the subtitles to make it easier.
Love seeing Rickles crack up.
I haven't seen no food at all...comedic genius... Thank You Johnathan for all the laughs.. R. I. P.
Jonathan Winters was a true comic genius. He had some of the best actors and comedians rolling in laughter. He was truly exceptional.
" I brought something for ya, but your Italian buddies are off stage and I got rolled" ha ha
His mind worked so fast that he'd hop from joke to joke without pause.I had something but I was rolled.
The two funniest men I have ever seen in 67 years is Robin Williams & Jonathan Winters.
In years to come I hope that people look at this and laugh.
“I had something, but I was rolled”..... by that time I couldn’t catch my breath I was laughing so hard.
Those were the days of real entertainment. Sadly, everyone there has now passed on.
magical performance by Jonathan Winters. Sinatra and Martin were laughing sincerely
Mr. Winters was the best comedian ever. At that particular time there were ''true'' comedians who could have made you laugh for hours and certainly Mr. Winters was the best of them all.
The best impromptu comedian ever. A real hero for me, going back to 1966, no one today can come close... rip Mr. Winters, my late hero.
Drawing from a wonderfully creative mind .. What a refreshing gem he was .. RIP Johnny
A “ NATURAL TALENT “… NO. SCRIPT ‼️. Perfect come backs for anyone ,anytime ,anywhere..
MISS HIM ♥️
Mr. Winters' facial expressions made people laugh even before he began talking

Hello Dege, How are you doing?
This guy was the best. We'll never have another Johnathan Winters. Rest in peace Johnathan.
Now I see where Robin Williams' comedic style came from. This is pure genius.
Robin Williams mentor was Jonathan Winters.
What an imagination he had. And he also was a fantastic dramatic actor... just so real.
Dino and Frank fell apart during that hilarious skit.
SO GOOD. ALL UNSCRIPTED- OFF DA CUFF, AMAZING TALENT
Winters makes his entrance and Sinatra turns to him and says, "Hiya, Elwood." And things got even funner from there!
pure comedy. Never seemed to run out of material & never had to go vulgar to make up for talent shortage (like many today)
Not one vulgar word. He was the best. RIP.
hilarious! I love watching Rickles reaction :))
Yeah, he was really digging it.
That man was a legend in Comedy. Loved him! I'm so glad we have him on You Tube.
..."...undemominational..."...
...Oh God!
...Priceless!
He was one of the few who never used a script.

I remember him in it's a mad mad mad mad mad world, that movie was full of great stars.
Roy Hellberg You're right. He STOLE that movie.
I love that movie! It's so cool that all the A-listers in the day could find the time to make that movie!
(and yup, Winters was sooo funny)

Helen Forrest (l saw her twice) sang with Benny Goodman, Harry James and Artie Shaw [three of of the 5 or 6 huge- hit bands in "those days".] She was "The Voice" of those bands.
The brilliant Elwood Suggen.
Winters was a complete GENIUS! No one was every as good as him.
I'm glad I own all these roast. I love rewatching them, the humor was classical! 👍💕💕💕💕💕

The one and only Johnathan Winters
Priceless
This is PRICELESS!!
Hello Rhonda, How are you doing?

And it was the best!
Toward the end Frank and Dean were couldn't keep a straight face! lol..R.I.P. Jonathon.
They were laughing and crying at the same time.

But I was rolled !! Gifted comedian.
Oh great Jonathan, the first laughter in the world, no one will ever look like you, even after a thousand years how much I love you.
This dinner is never going to be served,I have seen no food at all. That was adlibbed right off the top, sper of the moment. He was brilliant and had the rarest of qualities to never swear or use filthy antics in his comedy. R.I.P Jonathan we miss you
A real treat and lessons for the current breed of quasi-comedians.
Jonathan Winters...amazing talent.
Winters took off to space on this one. Only Robin Williams matched this man's extemporaneous comedy.
Once he starts you laughing you can’t stop. My gut is still hurting.
Absolute comedic gold. Back when the laughs were plenty and the jokes were clean!
Class act all the way also a ww2 combat marine thank you sir

Absolutely brilliant. This is comedic excellence.
