I simply love this man... Kind, soft and well spoken, thoughtful, very easy going modest man. Those kind of men from that era were all of that caliber. He set the bar so damn high, few could reach it.
You are loved and missed Mr. Foster Brooks...
Its a great little pause in my day when I recieve notification that a brand new classic Carson segment has been updated. R.I.P. Johnny the GOAT!!
Always so well dressed
The late great Foster Brooks. This is why I love RUclips, get to relive old memories and see wonderful stuff I missed years ago.
I wish I had lived in the USA during the 1970s and 80s. That period was filled with my favorite comedians. Those guys make me laugh so hard without excessive use of crudity. Thanks to video, we can still enjoy them today. And they are STILL funny!!
Every time I see him on Roasts I laugh so hard I have tears in my eyes 😂👍🏻!!!
I love the old clips, everyone loved everyone and enjoyed life, I MISS THIS.
They dont make people like Foster Brooks. He was one of a kind genius. Every single time I watch his videos I laugh my head off. RIP GOD BLESS❤❤
The first time I saw Foster Brooks was with my father, and we were both in tears from laughing!
Same with my father and me
@@johnoconnor3218and the same with both my mom and dad and me. He had us all rolling on the floor. 😅
Me too. I saw him w Juliette Prowse (sp) a dancer out here in Las Vegas. An odd combin ation but a great show
Foster Brooks was so funny! Nowadays you can't do a comedy routine like that any more because people get offended.
Scew'em, do it anyway.@@sallyjane2
I never knew Foster did stand up. I knew he was never drunk but seeing him for the first time as he was in real life I can only say he was not only articulate and a gentleman but a gentle soul. Carson, as usual, did a terrific job in letting Foster share his stories.
My father was a huge fan,and let me watch him when I was younger with him,one fond memories with my father
Used to watch Foster with my dad when he did the Dean Martin Roasts back in the 70's. Such a talent. Always love watching him.
😂😂 That’s where I first saw him. I had heard that on his first Dean Martin roast appearance. Dean Martin did not know who he was, I think it was 1974? And Dean actually thought he was drunk! People have to remember that Dean Martin didn’t stay up to watch Johnny Carson. Many times on his own roasts he did not know who was being roasted until they were about to go onto the dais. Not 100% sure on the accuracy of the story but it’s one of those that you hope is true.
The Dean Martin roasts for the best. I go back and watch them up here as well. The comedy still holds up after all these years. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Too funny such an adorable ..sober comedian. Loved him ..thanks for all the laughs ..RIP...
That's where I first saw him too. And it made me look forward to every Friday night and a new Dean Martin roast, with the hope that Foster Brooks would be there. And he usually was every week.
Same here. Some of my fondest memories from those days were watching Carson with my mom and dad. It was so special to stay up late and watch the show. Another was the Dean Martin Roasts, where FB was a regular. The caliber of celebs on those roasts was unbeatable with Benny, Burns, Burle, Hope, Welles, and on and on. Incredible TV. What a time to be a kid.
What are treasure he was! ❤
The most amazing thing to me is how Foster could turn the drunk act on and off like a light switch
Met Foster Brooks when he came to Central America in the 80’s to do a USO tour.
Helped him and his wife off of the C-130.
Nicest man ever!
Foster's granddaughter here! I have all of his personal things, including tons of photos from his USO tours. I wish I knew what you looked like then, I'd totally go through the pictures and see if I can see you. A photographer, a few years ago, found me and sent me more pics he took on a USO tour, but that was in Japan. He LOVED doing those tours. 🖤
My dad loved him, and let me watch him as a kid growing up in the 70's....we never laughed as HARD as when we watched Foster.... absolute hysteria!! Foster was also an EXTREMELY kind and humble Kentucky gentleman.... his eyes radiate kindness and humility that is very real!!
There will only be one Foster Brooks, the most loveable drunk that wasn't drunk. He was also a damn good singer.
Him and Otis from Mayberry
Actually, he used to be an alcoholic but quit cold turkey 🎉.
Now he drinks Hot Turkey. 😂@@ravipeiris4388
Dean Martin, too.
@@ravipeiris4388 The drinking I understand, but who in their right mind would eat cold turkey to begin with? *
*Yes I know the expression. Don't get serious on me, buck o.
A bygone era of very funny comedians.
Nobody does a better drunk than Foster🙏🤣
@thomasrhebb2499 Another good one was Hal Smith, who played Otis Campbell, the town drunk on The Andy Griffith show in the mid 1960s.
@johntiggleman4686 agreed , he was great
When Dean Martin brought him on the crew to do the roasts, no one wanted to go after him. No one could top him.
I love those roasts, and have watched a few here on RUclips. I remember watching them back then, too.
True. I'd hate to follow him or Rickles.
@@BigBuck-q5rOh incidentally, I'm fooling around with your wife and you're out of scotch! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dean Martin was his biggest fan! Foster was hysterically funny.
Priceless
What a Legend!
Why can't entertainment be like this anymore?
The fact that this reminds me of my father in so many little ways really shows how good this guy is.
One of my absolute favorite performers.
Growing up, I never heard him speak normally. Always impersonating a drunk. Pure talent.
I heard him speak normally. He was a very intelligent man and you would never have thought he had ever touched alcohol. His act was 100% sheer brilliance.
The first time I heard him speak normally was in a PSA about substance abuse and seeking help for it. It was like “alcoholism is no joke.”
One of the all time great humorists !!!
Foster’s roast of Rickles is absolutely hilarious! “By the way, you’re out of scotch!”
Your wife Mrs pickles
And Velveeta. LOL 😆
(Edited for spelling)
Foster Brooks was the undisputed king of those roasts.
Oh yea that was hilarious !!!!😂😂😂
And while you're at it you better pick up some pretzels....
One of the best comedians have all gone. Now all we get is trash and hate.
That was really neat seeing Foster for real! Thank you!
Thanks much. I don’t recall ever seeing this one before. Always enjoyed him!
For some reason I always preferred the shows of the 70s; they seemed extra special somehow.
When He does the Low Drawn-out Burp while talking cracks me up every time.
What a talent. Very funny man in a different era for comedy.
One of the greatest. I absolutely love his roast to Don Rickles.
This guy is new to me. It took me a while to figure out it was part of his act. Brilliant.
Foster Brooks - what an icon.
Foster Brooks was a genius. The way he describes his approach to the character shows just how good of an actor he was in addition to his comedy.
I love Foster Brooks's performance . He is incredible .
Comedic genius, and Foster could sing!
Lp
The Darn Dingalinging Barn Banging Circus 😂
😂😂😂
Love this guy and really miss Johnny!!
timing, superb, act, superb, brilliant,, his script....people need to read it, to see how brilliant his act was
Carson shoe was the best. He and Carroll Burnett were awesome
I didn't know he wore Thom McAn or Kinney shoes. I learned something new.
So original! I used to love watching this guy. There has never been an act like his since...
I saw him In my home town, Grand Rapids Mi. In a parade honering the Gerald R Ford museum with Bob Hope Sammy Davis jr. And other hollwood stars. He was riding in the back of a convertible sitting in the middle with his arms stretched out resting on the left and right side of the car. I ran out to the car with my camera and shouted at him Foster (because he was facing away from me) he turned toward me and I said loudly,( trying to imitate him) I want to take your picture. He smiled and i did! I started back to to the side of the street and i quickly turned around and ran back said, Foster ive gotta shake your hand, and we did. Ha, that made my day. Hes one of a kind and one of my favorites. Ill never forget that day.😊
God Bless You Foster, thanks for making us laugh!! ❤❤😂😂❤❤
There has not been a late-night comedian even close to Johnny Carson since.
Agreed!
😂Nobody Can Be Drunk Like Foster
NOBODY!...He Left His Mark😂
Cracks Me Up🤣
this guy under rated genius.. he the one who made all other comics laugh at the roasts.. stole the show amongst some heavy hitters,,,
Mr Foster Brooks the one and only true drunk comedian , .
Wow. Interesting to hear his normal voice. I remember seeing him on a TV show, must have been a few years after Carson...never saw him before then, and it was so funny watching and listening to him.
When Foster was with Deano, he would be in tears! 😂
Talk about “clean” funny humor. Dog story….just great. I’m lucky to be old enough to remember when Mr Brooks came on the scene. Pure hilarity.
There will never be another Foster Brook’s
I sit next to Mr. Brooks at a bar in Vegas. He was not drinking. Such a nice man
The man ,the myth,the legend!
This is the first time I’ve heard Brooks speak in his “own” voice!
He was very distinguished.
He quit drinking in 1964 as someone bet him $10 he couldn't do it. Apparently never touched a drop after that.
Foster was great, but Johnny was awesome. No one can hold a candle to him as host.
If you don't laugh when Foster is on may you rest in peace!! :-)
Carson accidently called him "Philip Brooks", a famous Boston minister!
That was a fake name for the drunk guy by Carson I believe.
I thought maybe "Foster" was his stage name. (?)
Love that dog story. Foster was the best, and he's stilll entertaining us all these years later. Performing that stand up comedy on live on TV took a lot of skill. Some may not know that Foster was a security guard for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Also he was a Shriner, the fraternity known for their Hospitals for Children.
Absolutely luv foster brooks
RIP Foster Brooks 🙏🎤
He was such a Kentucky gentleman.
My dad is friends with Mr. Brooks' nephew, Don. I never got to meet him, but my dad was introduced to him by his nephew. I got to see Foster Brooks at a celebrity golf tournament back in the early 90's in Louisville, Kentucky.
The first time {a few years back now} i saw this guy on tv i actually thought he was a drunk that snuck on to the show. Foster Brooks was a classic!
The guy was a GENIUS 💯
I used to love this guy . I used to , and i still do
His roast of Sammy Davis Jr is the best...I love Johnny and Mr. Brooks, may they Rest In Peace..
Slimmy, Slammy, Slummy...
@@anonygentLol.i know right... "Sandy Duncan Jr." Still cracks me up..
Glad I got to see these guys at the very end. Johnny smoking a cigarette. Lol😂
I got to meet Foster Brooks in Branson Missouri once.
Love Foster Brooks, the king and roast master and loveable endearing drunk who never was. Great interview with Johnny on New years Day in 1975. Adore what they all are wearing and Foster is quite handsome. Love his grin and laugh. Great singer and storyteller like his dad. 😍🥰😘🤩✨ 🌟 📺😆🤣😂
Louisville did him right when they named a street after him.
He and Muhammad Ali were so proud to always mention Louisville.
In my opinion...he should have been cast in "Caddyshack" as the drunk priest. He would have literally catapulted that movie further into the stratosphere beyond it already with Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight going back and forth. That role would have been perfect.
He had a severe learning disability, probably dyslexia, which rendered him unable to memorize scripts. His stand-up routine was purely ad lib.
@@susanmcintyre5377 OK. Thanks for that info. That makes sense.
Would have been hilarious though in retrospect as I can picture him in that role.
@@susanmcintyre5377 He did do some acting, however. He was a guest star a couple of times on Adam-12.
@@mitchmiller7204 among other shows (Murder She Wrote; The Lucy Show; Mork and Mindy; two appearances on Green Acres). But his roles were all bit parts.
@@arthuridishe was in Cactus Jack with Kirk Douglas, and Arnold Al be back😅😅😅
He was such a treasure
Foster Brooks for president
His favorite theme seems to be watches. Not surprising--Brooks is rocking a Pulsar Time Computer, the world's first digital watch, on his wrist.
I remember Foster Brooks first appearance on the Tonight Show. It was hilarious.
He was very talented. The dog story is to die for😅😅😅
One of the best
His skit with dean martin, as an airline pilot is my favorite
Just fantastic, I watch that one about once per month. I have sent it to friends (young folks) who are just flabbergasted on the content of that one. In this politically correct era they it would likely never make it to air! Cheers.
Even his hand gestures make me laugh.
When I see Foster Brooks.. I’m 11 yrs old again in 1975
Check out Foster Brooks roasting Don Rickles, it's roll on the floor funny.
Few people know that Foster's nephew, Randy, wrote the song "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"!
Best late night show theme.😊
That was me back in my drinking days
My God, this is the first time i’ve ever heard him speak without doing his drunk impression. 😂
Foster Brooks is jus jus jus just brill brill brilliant. Lol.
He's the best at acting drunk
My favorite.
Great stuff.
Sounds like our current resident in the white house 😂
Wonderful!
Good ole time clean comedian ❤😊😊
Define “Irony”… Foster Brooks PRETENDING to be drunk sitting next to Ed McMahon!
He was awesome 👍😎👍
He makes my stomach hurt 🤭😂
Wow! I never heard him do stand up before, nor heard him speak sober before.😮😊
THIS is what comic genius looks like. All civilized folk aged 50+ long for these days!
You make my life love you , !!
So interesting, I remembered his name - to look him up - from all those years ago of the Red Skeleton show (I think that’s the show he was on)!!!😂
Guy was good!
Genius!
