You are correct. Especially Red Skelton's explanation of the Pledge of Allegiance should be taught. Those that never heard it can find it here: ruclips.net/video/2HGHdFmu5GU/видео.html
I always thought he was sweet and caring and would never think of missing his show each week. I just loved him so much. You probably did too, but just didn't know it at the time.
Two all time greats. It reminds me of the heyday of TV when you could find wholesome and genuinely funny entertainment that the entire family could enjoy and watch together. The whole country tuned in and watched these truly talented guys and others like them on a regular basis. They helped unite the country and contribute to solidifying it around a common culture based on patriotism, and love and respect of others as opposed to today's comedy which with a few exceptions is dark, vulgar, divisive and not very funny. RIP Johnny Carson and Red Skelton. We love you still.
The entire family usually had to watch together, because most had only one TV, and there were only 3 main channels to choose from, and parents were fairly autocratic, and after they got off work and only had a few hours to watch TV, they usually got to choose what we kids watched.
Loved Red, he knew how to tell funny jokes without using bad language, dirty ideas were even clean. He was awesome and everybody enjoyed his humor. Great man too. Carson was an incredible tv host, the best really.
I grew up in the 1960s, watching "The Red Skelton Show", so this really takes me back! But I never knew that Red was an accomplished Painter and could write Symphonies and books!
I visited my sister in San Diego California in 1997 shortly before Red died. While there I came across his art gallery and could have bought one of his paintings. They were all up for sale and I think most of the smaller ones I could have afforded, but decided to pass. It's one of the true regrets of my life! Sometimes in life... a chance comes but once, and if you don't take it.... it never comes around again. I'm sure his artwork skyrocketed in price after his death. He was a national treasure and I loved how he ended his 60's program with a smile and a "God bless" As a kid... it really impressed upon me that there was indeed, a God..... out there somewhere.
I had the unique pleasure of being Red Skelton's Bellman once. I was so excited, primarily because our family watched his TV show every week during the 60'/70's. As I was leaving his room, I offered my services if he needed anything brought to his room. He called down later, and asked for a cooler of beer, Heineken. I jumped in our hotel van and brought him his 12 pack of beer and a styrofoam cooler with ice. When he left the next day, he gave me a $50 tip. This was 1984.
Red Skelton was a major factor in what Johnny Carson became. He inducted Johnny into the Television Hall of Fame in 1987 which is on RUclips somewhere.
I remember my mom popping corn and yelling get your pillow Red Skelton is coming on. And my brother's and sister would lay on the floor in front of the TV eating popcorn and laughing our butts off. RIP Red thank you for all the Laughter and great memories of my youth ❤ ♥. His recital of the pledge of Alliance should be shown in every school in America.
Isn’t that funny….everyone would gather around the single TV in the house and there was always something good on…something the whole family could watch☺️
Red Skelton was my Mom’s all time favorite. In case you’re wondering that hand gesture Skelton made just before he turned to go over to Johnny and Ed was the American Sign Language shorthand for “I love you”. 🤟
Red Skelton may be lost to the current generation but thank goodness for the video tape records of this great individual. His accomplishments are endless and will never be forgotten. Only hope future generations can look back o what awonderful person he was.
My 42 yr old son has several videos of Red Skelton. We used to pretend to play "Pedestrian Polo" when we went anywhere. I loved Red's version of "Pedestrian Polo" and he'd do a TIDE commercial during the Pedestrian Polo. It was hilarious!
@@oc8113 What’s interesting is this was a Columbia picture. Harry Cohn was hated by many for his brutal methods and dictatorship as a studio head. When Cohn died, Red Skelton was quoted as saying, “It proves what Harry always said: Give the public what they want and they’ll come out for it”.
Saw Skelton in Cleveland in the mid 70s. He did an hour show then came out after the show for another 20-30 minutes just to talk to the audience and take questions. A great performer.
I miss both of those guys. Watched Red each week as a kid and can’t begin to count how many times I saw Johnny on the Tonight Show, when he was there! 😆
I also grew up watching Red Skelton with my parents. It was good, clean comedy. My most treasured memory is buying tickets (as an adult) to see Red in Omaha- as a Christmas present for mom & dad. The show lasted 2hrs, Mr. Skelton all by himself! As we were slowly exiting the crowded theater- my dad took me by the shoulders and gave me a BIG kiss...in front of GOD + EVERYBODY!! My mom whispered "boy! do you rate! I don't even get that". Dad was NOT a man who showed affection publicly. Thank you Red Skelton for the laughs & love you inspired ❤
I knew RED only on his show as a very young kid....but WOW, this interview with JOHNNY really reveals what a MAGNIFICENT talent, funny, & GENUINELY Nice man RED actually was.
I watched The Red Skelton Show as a kid. I remember one night laughing so hard that I couldn't stop even though it hurt. This reminds me of that -- all good clean humor. "And may God bless."
I saw him in 1991 at the Brady theater. He did an hour and a half at least on stage alone, just him and that hat. Earlier that day hw wandered around downtown and made friends with the merchants. The next day, before he left, he went around and gave his paintings to his new friends. A real giant of a person.
I found out about Red Skelton as a kid. I was at my grandparents (late 1980s)and that particular night I was sick with the flu. I watched some of his skits and started to feel better just after watching guzzlers gin. Ever since then I have been a big fan.
Just watching him here, made me feel better (I have a chronic condition that gets worse every year ) - - that results in pain that doesn’t ever ease up much.
My husband & i were so fortunate to see him in person once! It was a delightful evening & he was such a wonderful entertainer. I loved to hear him do his version of "The Pledge of Allegiance" & what each section means.
I am so glad I came across this, it has made my day. I did not realize how great television was when i was a kid. I now watch mostly old television or public television. Red was one of the best. Both guys were great!
I haven't seen Red in any media for probably 20 years. This clip has me laughing just like I did when I was a child watching his reruns. I have an even deeper appreciation for him as a person after watching this. Thank you.
@@sarahmodicbradley8102 I noticed that too, as if Red slipped in a "blue" word and they overdubbed it with "garaged". I believe Carson was behind the wheel of his Delorean when he was cited for driving under the influence in 1982. I'm sure the joke was related to that.
His show came on late after my bed time in the sixties. I would sneak out of bed to watch. He was so kind, gentle, funny and loving and gave me great relief. My parents were not. He was a haven for me.
I understand what you just wrote. I had a mean, cruel Mother and my Father was career Navy which meant he was always on the ship. I didn’t blame him, I wouldn’t have wanted to be around her either. Red Skelton and Mr. Rogers were my pretend Fathers.
I met Mr Skelton twice. Once while my Mother had taken us to D.C. for summer vacation. We met this esteemed gentleman at the Jefferson Memorial. A classy man. Several years later I again met this gentleman and after a few moments he said that he remembered me. I had breakfast with him. I'll never forget this true American treasure.
Around 1990 I was at DFW airport and saw Red Skelton riding on top of a big baggage carrier. He was wearing what looked like a heavy fur coat, and was grinning like he was having the time of his life. If was a good way to get through the crowds.
What a treasure he was. A lifetime entertainer. One of the funniest things is how he got tickled at his own jokes. I hope he had as much fun as he appears to have had.
I was 9 years old when this was broadcast for the first time. I think the first time I saw him for any show on TV was his Funny Faces tour. What always struck me was his gentle nature towards people. He would laugh along with the audience when he told his jokes and you could tell he was genuine. Now, thanks to RUclips, we get to see some of his work and it's HILARIOUS. There are a LOT of stand up comedians who could learn a few things from Red Skelton. You don't have to be vile or talk about drugs to get a laugh.
To be able to say, you played 'straight man' to the great Red Skelton is an honor all on its own. How has this planet managed without him? Well not very well, has it?
Nobody did late night like Johnny Carson, not even Merv Griffin, Red Skelton's comedy was so wonderful & unique, what a wonderful treat to have these two gentlemen on stage together.
Grew up watching The Red Skelton show, and would try repeating his jokes at school the next day. I remember finally being able to stay up late enough to watch Johnny Carson. An amazing era in show biz. Giants from the days of vaudeville and burlesque were still around, the borscht belt performers, combining with the modern up and coming stars. Great times
It was a weird time. You had legends like Jack Benny and Jimmy Stewart who were around, but you also had up and coming young talent like Freddie Prinze, Andy Kaufman, Eddie Murphy and others. The last few generations (Gen Xers to Zoomers) will never know this period. Baby Boomers were very lucky to have this show when they were young.
Red Skelton was the best of his age.I have the Red Skelton Christmas DVD with Vincent Price and cannot get enough of the satisfaction of the seeing this man perform.
One of the greatest comics of all times. I saw Red Skeleton 28 years ago on my 10 year anniversary in Hawaii. Awesome!! Red is the only one where my sides ached the next day......loved that man. Rest in piece my man, we still love you........Too bad my honeymoon did not last longer.❤️❤️
I grew up watching Red's T.V. show with my Pop every Tuesday night. Great memories. Still love Him and watch His movies. The best ever. Hope to meet Him in Heaven some day. 🥰
Red Skelton embodied humor. He took life as it came and laughed his way through it while helping all who saw him laugh with him. I can never watch anything he does without smiling. The world needs that humor and spirit again.
I’m 73 and watching this video just made me happy. I laughed when I watched him back then and was always mindful of his serious closings. Often sweet heartfelt words with hope and insight. Red Skelton.. love him and deeply respect him . He made my troubled youth tolerable.. and thrive with humor .. he was and is, a treasure.. he should be required reading in school ..
Love Mr. Skelton and Johnny. None of the shows produced today are as clean and funny.
Sharper than a tack, the man has talent..still!
A true savior of humor, A Saint of serenity.
Loved Red Skelton. He was like a grandpa figure from my youth.
You are correct. Especially Red Skelton's explanation of the Pledge of Allegiance should be taught. Those that never heard it can find it here: ruclips.net/video/2HGHdFmu5GU/видео.html
Was fortunate enough to meet him in person. One of the kindest and most sincere people I’ve ever known.
I watched Red as a kid but I never realized what a sweet, caring man he really was.
My comment too. Exactly. Met him twice as a kid. Once as part of his act as a prop, then later in public. He really was a genuinely nice man. RIP
We watched him on our parents black and white set, once they were able to get reception and the money to buy the TV set.
@@slcRN1971, the good old days...
He genuinely cared about our wellbeing
I always thought he was sweet and caring and would never think of missing his show each week. I just loved him so much. You probably did too, but just didn't know it at the time.
Red Skelton was a very talented and funny man. And Carson had the best late night talk show ever! 😁
Amen 🙏
GOD bless both of these gentlemen and may both be in Heaven
Well said.
The entire family usually had to watch together, because most had only one TV, and there were only 3 main channels to choose from, and parents were fairly autocratic, and after they got off work and only had a few hours to watch TV, they usually got to choose what we kids watched.
Amen, we were so blessed and lucky to have him.
I loved Red Skelton when I was a child...his show was so wholesome and pure...What a sweet and gentle soul.🥰
I love the Johnny Carson show and I love Red Skeleton!!
Me too
An exceptional man and comedian. He brought a lot of laughs to our family in the 1960's. Always clean and never mean.
All these many years later, these two comic geniuses still make me laugh.
Dya know what the deloreon joke was? They edited it out :(
Before ol' Snifffffy and his divisive demonrats stole an election, this is what EVERYONE was like. How everyone just WAS.
@@ltipst2962about his drug bust

Agreed

Yes we were. ❤
I remember watching Red Skeleton when I was a kid and he was so funny and fascinating I couldn't take my eyes off the TV.
I really miss both of them. I watch them when I was a teenager and they were the best part of my life when things were tough growing up.
One of my fondest memories was my Mom Laughing at his show back in 1962. I can still hear it in my head. Thank you Mr. Skelton
Loved Red, he knew how to tell funny jokes without using bad language, dirty ideas were even clean. He was awesome and everybody enjoyed his humor. Great man too. Carson was an incredible tv host, the best really.
He knew tons of dirty jokes; he just knew when to use them. What a huge talent he was! ❤
Can we please go back in time to these SO MUCH NICER days?
Oh Yes
Johnny's joy in having Skelton on the show is obvious. Really good stuff!
Jack Benny as well
I grew up in the 1960s, watching "The Red Skelton Show", so this really takes me back!
I remember when my parents would laugh at me laughing at Mr Skelton.
I was brought up to respect my elders so I will never call him just Red.
Samuel Morse was an accomplished painter also
I had the unique pleasure of being Red Skelton's Bellman once.
Aww How Wonderful
WOW!!! That's impressive and very kind. :)
Red Skelton was a major factor in what Johnny Carson became. He inducted Johnny into the Television Hall of Fame in 1987 which is on RUclips somewhere.
I didn't know that.Thank you.I'll look for it.
Wow, thanks for that🥳
Clean humor, funny & a kind person. Need more people like that in the world.
Red Skelton may be lost to the current generation but thank goodness for the video tape records of this great individual. His accomplishments are endless and will never be forgotten. Only hope future generations can look back o what awonderful person he was.
Such a great comedian I always enjoy The Fuller Brush Man
My 42 yr old son has several videos of Red Skelton. We used to pretend to play "Pedestrian Polo" when we went anywhere. I loved Red's version of "Pedestrian Polo" and he'd do a TIDE commercial during the Pedestrian Polo. It was hilarious!
Truth Indeed
And will never be matched.
Red, never got enough credit for his work & being a great soul.

I miss both of those guys. Watched Red each week as a kid and can’t begin to count how many times I saw Johnny on the Tonight Show, when he was there! 😆
his pantomime was so good too
I also grew up watching Red Skelton with my parents.
This is one of the best interviews of anybody! Thank you Red for making us laugh out loud! For so many years!
In what city was the Brady Theater?
Two great Americans sharing stories and laughs with all of us. Thanks forever, Johnny. Ed and Red for the terrific memories!
Red Skelton was one of the all time 20th century greats. A great entertainer, and, to quote the movie Ace Ventura..."one HELL of a model American" 👍
Oh my gosh that guy could make even the most mundane joke hilarious! Loved him ever since I was a kid! One of a kind along with Johnny!
Watched Red every time his show was on. He was so precious!!
His humor is timeless
Awe I always loved Red Skelton & Johnny Carson. This is a classic!
A world classic indeed ❤
My husband & i were so fortunate to see him in person once! It was a delightful evening & he was such a wonderful entertainer. I loved to hear him do his version of "The Pledge of Allegiance" & what each section means.
Loved Mr Skelton...generous, humble, and just a very good person.
What to say but "those were the days" my friend. Entertainment at its best. Your heart laughed instead of crying. Thank you Thank you
I remember watching Red and Johnny when Johnny did 90 minutes and devoted the whole time to Red. One of the best nights of my childhood!
I am so glad I came across this, it has made my day. I did not realize how great television was when i was a kid. I now watch mostly old television or public television. Red was one of the best. Both guys were great!
Never seen Johnny love on someone so much! A lot of respect there!!
Great observation
I haven't seen Red in any media for probably 20 years. This clip has me laughing just like I did when I was a child watching his reruns. I have an even deeper appreciation for him as a person after watching this. Thank you.
Those were truly the days. Pure delight ♥️
Oh Yes
I STILL laugh at his jokes and skits, 60 years after first hearing and seeing them. He's completely timeless. The simple things are still the best.
I'm laughing while watching this, yet have tears in my eyes. Warm, funny and genuine affection on display between these two legends.
Very true
i dont get the delorean car joke do you, looks dubbed
@@sarahmodicbradley8102 I noticed that too, as if Red slipped in a "blue" word and they overdubbed it with "garaged". I believe Carson was behind the wheel of his Delorean when he was cited for driving under the influence in 1982. I'm sure the joke was related to that.
Red was a true comedian. His wit was genius. Growing up I never missed his show. I just love him
💙👏
Magical. Great interview. Casual.
Funny in its own way. I'm only 35, but this was hilarious.
Two LEGENDS.
Bravo!
I'm 37 and Red Skelton is my favorite comedian! Really enjoy watching the Johnny Carson clips too!
He was so good. He'd take a hat and do twenty characters...non stop laughter. His timing was impeccable. You always thought he cared...about you
I believe he truly did!!!!
Their apparent mutual admiration for each other and timeless class and quality... when tv was great.
Amazing man really joy just pure "JOY" and "HAPPINESS ".
What a wonderful man!!! I watched him when I was very young. My dad watched him so I had no choice! But I really enjoyed him!!!!
@Hello Jay how are you doing
To be able to say, you played 'straight man' to the great Red Skelton is an honor all on its own. How has this planet managed without him? Well not very well, has it?
I've been watching red since I was a kid, I never realized how great a story teller he is, he does it so naturally and so fluid.
More talent on that stage than one can imagine. Both are incredible.
Do you know what the deloreon joke was? They've edited it out
Nobody did late night like Johnny Carson, not even Merv Griffin, Red Skelton's comedy was so wonderful & unique, what a wonderful treat to have these two gentlemen on stage together.
Great times
@Hello How are you doing
@@lydialas8756 I’m great thank you, how are you?
@@tattoorichie100 I'm good thanks for asking I hope we can get to know each other and can you suggest a way we can talk off here if you don't mind
He was. The best part of my life.my grandmother came from Italy, didn't understand English, and she would laugh at him like crazy 🤣 God bless him
What an iconic piece a American television. Red Skelton was as genuine as he was humble and made everyone smile.
2 of the all time greats. There's not a comic today that's even close to being in the same league as Red Skelton.
@@rugby4lifenone615 , You got a sic sense of humor, LOL.
@Joel Cohn, Kimmel and lousy bits could not stink anymore, than if he intentionally tried to do that!
One of a kind right there, national treasure and excellent therapy for a long lost nation.
Truly one of the best comedians ever, no swearing just pure humour
I grew up watching Red's T.V. show with my Pop every Tuesday night. Great memories. Still love Him and watch His movies. The best ever. Hope to meet Him in Heaven some day. 🥰
They were two of my all time favorites. Tv needs stars like them again. I always enjoyed their shows.
Red Skelton embodied humor. He took life as it came and laughed his way through it while helping all who saw him laugh with him. I can never watch anything he does without smiling. The world needs that humor and spirit again.
Loved his definition of the pledge of Alegent. Must watch.
FYI - Allegiance (and you can edit that by going to the 3 dots to the right of your post)
I’m 73 and watching this video just made me happy. I laughed when I watched him back then and was always mindful of his serious closings. Often sweet heartfelt words with hope and insight. I can never remember a joke be often carried that thought into my bed that night. I’m sure you are in God’s eternal embrace. Thank you Red.
When times were simpler and we just laughed so easily. These guys were classics to watch and so fun to see them interact!
This is sweet. Miss them both.
GDI, Red was a staple on the TV entertainment menu in my youth. Thanks for this clip....He was a classic!
it's nice to see two greats with profound respect for each other.
