Four Tops "Bernadette" My BIG Extended Version!!

  • No copyright infringement intended. The Tops in 1967 were on a roll, including this huge hit. You'll hear lots of instrumental breakdown, including James Jamerson's amazing bass. Also on hand...the rest of the Funk Brothers, and, of course, the heavenly Andantes! I rightfully can't take credit for all of the amazing breakdowns (about 4 different mixes this extended version came from)....but I did edit and tie them together in hopefully a coherent way.

    I was lucky enough to meet Levai Stubbs before a concert in the eighties, I asked him if they were singing Bernadette that night as it is my middle name. He replied “ yes Honey we are, and tonight we’ll sing it just for you” And they did! I sobbed for hours afterwards. I loved those guys so much, and Levai’s voice was like no other, there could never ever be another.

    Dear Lord I hope and pray when I get to heaven, Levi will be singing up there. What a voice that man had. You heard his distinctive voice and you just knew the group you were listening to and knew each song was pure class and quality. The Four Tops were an all time favourite group of mine and this extended version of Bernadette transports me back to the 60's and the wonderful music that was around then.

      You have very low expectations for going to heaven. If your motivation is to hear a mere mortal singing, a created being then you have really missed the mark.
      I enjoyed the Motown sound as well but that all pales in comparison to the glory of God.
      I definitely will not be hoping to hear favorite songs and see singers that I listened too while on this side of glory when I stand before God ond day.

The bass provided by James Jamerson with the vocals provided by Levi Stubbs made Bernadette an absolute classic. I just love this. Brilliant. For those who don't know, it's very difficult the nail the very first note of any song. When you do that you are probably on the way to becoming a great singer. The late great Levi Stubbs could have probably belted out Snuffleupagus and made it a hit. Acapella can expose you. Lol. His delivery was crisp, strong and pure. How could one stop playing Motown...ever?? 4 tops were one of the few groups that could step on the same stage with the Temps.

    This is a very touching song. I love the pleading in his voice when he says "I want you because I need you to live! " and the way he calls out "Bernadette!!" at the end of the song it sounds like a man so much in love with her. I picture Bernadette as someone so beautiful and he loves her and can't trust other men including his friends around her. Such a touching, emotional song. Nobody ever felt like that towards me in my younger years.
    I love the extended version because it let's you hear just the base player and others like the background singers it's really nice to be able to extract just certain parts that you know put the song together.

    The thing that I love with all of your extended versions is the chance to hear all of the detail and work that goes into the songs that gets buried in the mix. This is not even my favorite Four Tops song but tonight it is, all tension and drama of recording was highlighted. Of course Mr. Jamerson's work on this track was beyond compare. Thank you Mosogotam for your wonderful work. The Universal Music group clearly has not thought about the benefits of the Motown catalouge, the public wanting to hear these classics (me for example), bringing these classic songs to different generations of music fans, and of course the bottom line, the money that they would make. You obviously love the music and would treat these timeless classics with the utmost of care.

      No, it showed the immense talent one man has. I'm fairly certain Detroit isn't filled with people that can sing like this.

    • @dewaynecoleman1989
      @dewaynecoleman1989 4 года назад +2

      @@hualni Man are you living?? You obviously don't know Detroit, Motown left...the talent didn't. Plus look at all of the contemporary talents that existed along with Levi Stubbs. Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, David Ruffin, Diana Ross, Tammi Terrell, Martha Reeves, Eddie Kendricks, Dennis Edwards. I live in Detroit you must not, because its still filled with extraordinary talent. Have you ever heard of the Detroit Youth Choir? Boy if you think just one man in Detroit is the only one who can sing you're too stupid to be on Social Media.

    These extended versions you give us of Motown classics are so fascinating, so sonically awesome, and so amazing I swear people would buy them all over again in these stripped down, layered mixes. All the elements are on display once again to create a classic and powerful Motown hit. It's like hearing the record for the first time, and I've been playing it for years. The 4 Tops not only hit with lighter tunes like the delightfully bouncy "I Can't Help Myself" but deeply soulful tunes like this one and "Ask the Lonely". I personally think "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" was their greatest single but this tune oozes raw soul and OMG does Levi Stubbs turn in a killer vocal, fully on display here. The word MAGNIFICENT applies; THANK YOU.
