The Four Tops not only nailed ALL their songs, they have the distinction of you never hearing anything bad or negative about them!! Love ❤️ them forever!!
me to and I'm 72 now lol, it's really funny to be that young and just get the music like that, I always had perfect pitch and picked up very easily guitar and ukulele chords
I miss all of the Motown greats. Smokey is still hanging in there I was born in 1950 and i swear our Era was the best of the Best. Never be the same 😢 God bless them all. ❤
Yeah you’re right,I was born in 1951, how privileged were we all to grow up listening the 50s music and then 60s music then Motown came along and just blew everything else away it’s so intertwined in everyones lives, every song brings back memories of those amazing times 🤘🏼🎸🎵❤️
I agree if you ever can find this band called the pink slips there's a twenty years old boy Evan wright sings I believe in you and me and it's real good not like Levi but it's close the boy at least has good taste in music
My grandpa listened to this music, these songs make me miss him a lot. He used to dance around the house playing these songs when I was a little kid. I was raised by my grandparents and he meant the most to me in life beside my own kids.
Oh my God me and u both listen to your story sounds like me man I miss my papa and grandma soo much it tore my heart out when I seen them pass I can't wait to see them in heaven when I see CHRIST GLORY TO CHRIST
You may not agree but I really think this is about the best record ever to come out of Motown. It has everything from the perfect backing of the Funk Brothers to The Haunting background vocals by the andantes and the amazing sound of holland-dozier-holland who can basically do no wrong as songwriters. And of course the astounding vocals of the Four Tops particularly the one and only Levi Stubbs, full of passion that is just this side of passing over into insanity. If this song doesn't give you Goosebumps the first time you hear it, you're probably already dead.
Couldn't agree more. You mentioned the Funk Brothers but James Jamerson deserves to be mentioned by name for the phenomenal bass playing in this tremendous song. (Edit.. I just remembered 'Can't Get Next To You' by The Temptations. It's a dead heat. Photo finish. Too close to call.)
There were a lot of great male singers at Motown but for me Levi was the best. One thing that set him apart was that he was a baritone and most of the others were tenors. He had amazing power and sang with such intensity. The Four Tops story about their lifelong friendship and that Levi wouldn’t go solo are so inspiring when you consider how things behind the scenes went with so many other groups.
My Dad loves this song because he and my mother were in love. He was 21 and my mother 18 and my mother name happened to be Bernadette... they are still married and in love to this day ❤.
If us British were ever racist how come, we all loved Motown Chuck Berry Fats Domino Little Richard etc we weren't worried about their colour but instead enjoyed their wonderful music. As we still do to this day.
My grandad played cornet in his northern England work's brass band and his absolute musical hero was Louis Armstrong. I remember his reel to reel recordings in the 60s. In my younger days I loved Levi's voice - and still do! RIP, legend.
i am as wh as the page i'm typing on and motown music the doors the rolling stones and creedence were, are real talent that's timeless and knows no color we, the good people, i'm trying, know that...our ears don't see, they hear.
you aint lyin!!!!! i’ll tell you what, if this man is ever out in public with Bernadette and he sees another brother make A slight mistake and move his eyes towards Bernadette, it’s going to be troublllllllllle trubbllllllle🤣👊🏽❗️
This is my most ultimate four tops record. Sang with such passion. Levi told a story when he sang this. 'In you I have what other men long for' 'All men need someone to worship and adore' 🎤 👏 x
When I listened to the Four Tops, they take me on an emotional journey to a feverish pitch that most singers don’t understand. Lead singer Levi Stubbs is in the stratosphere of baritone vocals.
I didnt think of it this way until I read your comment, but one could say that Levi probably inspired Teddy Pendergrasses style when you think of Lead baritone. Like Marvin Junior of the Dells too.
“ I am so thankful that I have the blessings of being able to have been born in 1961, so when I was a first grader I would hear this on the car radio… now 54 years later it has a deep impact on my psychic.”
Levi puts such passion and soul into this song that you can feel every word he sings. I was 15 when this came out 55 years ago. Being a teenager The Four Tops would touch me emotionally and still do,
Talented and passionate musicians are still making music in 2023, you just have to go against what is popular. Don’t care about what others think about the music you listen to, care about what speaks to your soul.
One of my fav groups of all time, and especially love bernadette. Grew up north of detroit, so motown was on all stations. My white parents listened, but i loved it. Was asleep on back seat of car late one night when baby i need your lovin came on(new release), i loved it. Loved “soul”. Carried me through some hard times. Music of that era is still my fav. Achingly moving. When i heard i only have eyes for you(1958 or so, flamingos), i thought it was the most beautiful song i’d ever heard. Imagine when james brown became popular, and i loved him, too. Oops! That was too much. Couldn’t have said so. My sisters liked the supremes, but i didn’t know anyone white who liked james brown back then. That good music has stood the test of time.
In 1967 this song came out the month I was born and my 18 year old parents called me Bernadette!!! It has one of the most funkiest bass lines ever played. James Jamerson 🐐!! The GReatest of all tiMe Thanku
Who’s here in the search of great classics in 2024? Bless you and your families 🎼
Was any music better than that of the 1960's and 1970's? I think not.
Here!!!!
Here also 😊
I am. Part of my childhood in the 60s, The Four Tops are awesome. I remember them on American Bandstand.

Motown is the 1st pop music I fell in love with when I was probably about 6.

I miss all of the Motown greats. Smokey is still hanging in there

Born in 1952 and 200% agree with you.

Amen
Born in 1957, with older siblings got to hear so much wonderful music and songs loving my music time tonight

This song is a classic. The incomparable voice of Levi Stubbs
Funny to think that smooth sexiness is the same voice that renders Mean Green Mother from Outer Space
Best voice in rock and roll history (in my humble opinion)
No voice like Levi Stubbs ❤
The incomparable Levi Stubbs! Easily the most underrated lead singer in rnb history
"Keeper of the castle" 🎙️
Levi Stubbs had the best soul voice!
For real!
Oh yes. He brings out all the emotion. R I P Mr Stubbs.
I agree if you ever can find this band called the pink slips there's a twenty years old boy Evan wright sings I believe in you and me and it's real good not like Levi but it's close the boy at least has good taste in music
I love Levi’s voice, but my favorite soul voice is Marvin Junior of the Dells. Dude was incredible.
Levi was the Man!
Levi Stubbs. Nuff said.

This is the best song by the Four Tops
They don't make groups like this anymore. Talented and classy.
I'm 41 years old and love old school music especially from the 60s four tops killing this song
Same

This era transcends all generations, I’m so blessed growing up with this and still play it regularly
So gooooood....
Every woman should be so blessed to have a man who feels this way about her! Take note guys!
And every man should be so blessed to have a woman that he can sincerely feel this way about.
My dad raised me to be a gentleman and my fiancé is happy for that. I love here more than words can say!

These gentlemen were flawless performers! I am a forever fan!
Paul McCartney is a forever fan, too, he once even offered to write songs with them
Me too!*
Ditto!!!
My grandpa listened to this music, these songs make me miss him a lot. He used to dance around the house playing these songs when I was a little kid. I was raised by my grandparents and he meant the most to me in life beside my own kids.
Peace and remembrance
It sounds like you had a wonderful grandfather.

Now all four tops are all together again. R. I. P. Four Tops.
We were so lucky to grow up in these times

This hurt that they’re all gone, RIP to the last surviving member Abdul Duke Fakir. Your music will live on, thank you.🙏🏽
That’s when music meant something, really miss those days
Music still means a lot to those of the age that weve outgrown. It will always be this way. Remember when Bill Haley was damned by those older?
Yes him and David Ruffin. Both great singers! Both goat.
absolument magnifique , j'adore ....
There's a reason its called Soul Music!
If us British were ever racist how come, we all loved Motown Chuck Berry Fats Domino Little Richard etc we weren't worried about their colour but instead enjoyed their wonderful music. As we still do to this day.

This has to be one of the greatest songs ever written ... and performed by one of the greatest groups of all time. What voices these guys had!

Such a classic bass line courtesy of the phenomenal James jamerson
Never heard it before you said it.
Notice it now to. CAN NEVER ACCEPT, THE FACT WHEN MOTOWN HAD THERE 25TH CELEBRATION, James Jameson had to buy a ticket, BURNS MY ASS
Not on this one. Carol Kaye did this tune. She also did Love Child and other Motown cuts that were done when Motown went to Hollywood.
55 year old white guy listening to real music who usually listening to heavy metal music motown will always be beautiful
69 years old I'm remembering my skinny white legs dancing to this.
Rest in Peace all four....you are together again.
I was imported from Italy 1969 learned English to motown the four tops my favorite.
Levi Stubbs may be the smoothest dude to ever exist on planet Earth.
A tribute to the great Lamont Dozier who died this week. He wrote so many Mo Town hits, this one and others for the Four Tops.
Holland Dozier Holland had 21 #1 hits. Incredible ! One more than those lads from Liverpool.
This music brings back my childhood reminds me of my Grandparents

The pipes! Those pipes bring Jesus into your heart. Pure soul.
This is what you call Real Music !
Motown at its best love the music by the funk brothers
Pure Class.
Happy Heavenly Birthday Levi Stubbs!(Born June 6, 1936)😃🙏🎂
“ I am so thankful that I have the blessings of being able to have been born in 1961, so when I was a first grader I would hear this on the car radio… now 54 years later it has a deep impact on my psychic.”
So good I named my dog Levi. what an incredible artist!
They were Brilliant fantastic along with the Temptations. They will never be replaced.
Levi puts such passion and soul into this song that you can feel every word he sings. I was 15 when this came out 55 years ago. Being a teenager The Four Tops would touch me emotionally and still do,
BERNADEEETTE! They want you because of the pride that gives.
I tell the wooooorld, you belong to me!!!
one of best r&b songs ever recorded
Beautiful song like the Bernadette i know 59 to young R.I.P. Bernadette XXX
This is real music and not trash like we hear now days.
Talented and passionate musicians are still making music in 2023, you just have to go against what is popular.
Don’t care about what others think about the music you listen to, care about what speaks to your soul.
Grew up with Motown, what a band.
Classic? This deserves a GOLD STAR
So of all the all-time great Motown singers Levi Stubbs may take the cake. Eddie Kendrick's is right there as well.
"They'd give the world and all they own for just one moment we have known".
Wow
If you really listen to this song..you see he really saying some serious shit👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😮
I was five (5) years old when I saw them at my dad's Carousel Theatre - just plain great music
Rest In Peace Duke ❤ Thank you for the Beautiful Music THE FOUR TOPS ❤❤❤❤
Levi is desperate. Pleading. Commanding. Menacing on this song! The best!
One of the greatest vocalists to ever sing.
Gorgeous voices handsome men all suited up top song back in the 70’s
Me and Bernadette go way back ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
These guys had a bunch of major hits back in the 60s. They were at the top of the food chain then. Their sound cut across all lines.
