A music video compilation for the 1964 hit Dancing in the Street performed by the Martha and the Vandellas. The video is compiled from 7 live and pre-recorded shows that aired over various networks between 1964 and 1966, including some promotional photographs from the same time period. In 1964, when this song came on our car radio. stop the car, get out wherever, and start dancing in the streets. You betcha. San Mateo, CA.

My sisters did that in 1967 on a FM road going home! I wish I would’ve been with them to join them!! My sisters are soooo cool!!

@Vincenzo Darian Same here!!
I don't care who covers this song NOBODY can sing it like the Vandellas!!! AND I MEAN NOBODY!!!!!!!
Amen to that! ❤
Dick Clark was a great classic act! He didn’t see color! Showcased a lot of us black brothers and sisters. Thanks mr. Clark. Rip!
Don't forget the late great ALAN FREED AMERICAN HOT WAX WATCH IT CLASSIC MOVIE AMERICAN GRAFFITI CLASSIC ALSO.
@@bigdcoach22fan4life5 Also Casey Kasem who hosted Shebang, that was owned by Dick Clark. Each Year on His Radio Show Casey would talk about Jackie Wilson and when I was a Kid I didn't know why. It wasn't until much later did I realize Casey also grew up in Detroit, MI., as well. He also attended the Same University as Diana Ross's Father Fred.
He sure tried to keep Soul Train from being put on the air. Didn't work tho!!

we needs songs like that now
It was the first week in August when summer school ended for me. Behind me in Algebra One sat a friend from high school -Denise Walker. She poked me in the back and asked if I’d heard this record yet - she pushed a copy of “Heat Wave” at me. I told her I hadn’t heard it yet. She clutched the 45 tightly to her breast and said, “Oh my God it’s fabulous.” I left class that day and walked to where a guy with a 1957 red convertible Chevy was parked - my ride home. As we drove away, “Heat Wave” came on the radio. I was stunned by how brilliant that song was. I went home and learned it on piano that day. I still love to play it. One of the best R-n-R records ever.
I agree with you this song is brilliant .I love your story , good times good memories.
My childhood too!!!😂 🔥💥🔥❤️❤️❤️my moms 1955 Chevy-NO SEAT BELTS our safety was moms or dads arm shooting out to pin us AND maneuver the car all at the same time! We little ones were ALLOWED to stand up to see in the front, sometimes BETWEEN mom an dad and both arms shot out 😂🙄! Whenever Dancin In the Streets came out I was reaching to turn it up an dance!!! Good times and hey-we all still went flyin couple times into the METAL dashboards, scars for stories lol🙏🏻❤️
Great memory! Thanks for sharing! The skate was out when this came out.
@@beverlydouglas7019 - you're oh so right Beverly D - another one of Motown's best was the Marvellettes "Locking Up My Heart" - the rhythm, the tune (a real TUNE), the arrangement, the band (gotta love the Funk Brothers, ya know?) the lyrics all thanks to Holland-Dozier-Holland, give this song the ability to make any and everyone just jump up and dance!
A Guy Is it Random on Purpose
During this time we could really dance not just our upper body but also our feet whether doing the mash potato’s the twist the jerk or just the slide. What a time having great fun. In Huntington Beach, Ca., we had the wood floor roller rink that on Friday and Saturday nights was turned into a dance hall on the left prior to the pier. The roller rink was run by Mike Majors. We had the best local groups and bands. 1950-60’s was a very special time period. Across the street was the Golen Bear Coffey house that also had very good groups like Hoyt Axton just to name one special singer.
This will be our country’s anthem after COVID 19.
Oh yes! I will be turning cartwheels and dancing in the streets!
YES YES YES
Yes!
Absolutely
And now that there is sanity due back in the White House. This is the World saying thank you!
Music makes you live longer, lets' get it on !!!!
You are SO right!!! What Blessings!!
Good old Days 💓
Can you believe how good this song still sounds almost 60 years after it was recorded? This attests to the quality of the recording process that Barry Gordy insisted on. The Funk Brothers really drive this song along with the Vandellas' vocals. The drumming is just out of this world. What a great, uplifting, positive song for everyone, no matter your race, creed, etc. Awesome!!!
funk is black music
THATS RIGHT!!!!!!!
@@petrusdijkzeul4257 NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.......YEA MAN!!!!!!! HAVE A WONDERFUL AWSOME DAY THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HATH 🙏🙌❤MAID AND I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN 😊😀☺🙏IT!!!!!!!(KAT)

yes! no matter race even no matter what country! im from venezuela and i love that song. also, i could say we (humans ) have streets in everywhere, so this song is for everyone every country, every place on the planet. as long we got streets! yeah!
I get old, but the music doesn't lol ; )
When music was great.
No one could sing this song better than these three Beautiful Ladies.!!!
GERALD SUMMERS and elegant!
👍
Agree!!!! They were great and this was definitely THEIR song!
Agreed. The way they sing, the way that they move, proof positive that there is a god.
@Mary Robinson Wait, what about Jagger and Bowie? One of the greatest duets of all time! LMAO
This song reminds me of good times that we didn't fully appreciate until now.
Entertainers back then, were so elegant, the way they dressed and dance moves, really appreciate it.
Baby Boomer here, 60's will never go out of style.
One of the best songs to come out of Motown.
For sure
My parents would dance in the living room to this song. RIP Mom and Dad!🙏🏾
We appreciate you sharing that with us.
Martha and the Vandellas ROCK! One of the Greatest Rock Tunes of All Time - a Golden Rock n Roll Classic that will Live On Forever!

to hell with the brits and their so called "invasion" Motown ruled the 60's
Music that will never die, they don't make them like that anymore
I still love listening to great music in 2022
I was 10 years in 1964 and am now aging in the LORD's grace at 70. I love me some 60's Motown music, 70's abd 80's music!🎼 1:59 🎶

I have no idea how a person can listen to this and not want to move. Gets me moving really well on my slowest days. Thanks.
The sound track to my young life. Went to Vietnam when this was big. Got there in late 65 and made it back Dec. 66. My life was never the same.
Praying for you.

I'm so grateful that I grew up with this music! And still listening, never getting enough of the real Motown sound.
Same here. Sweet memories, music drifting over the James River. I found out after I got old that some soul legends played at a black beach near us called Tyler's Beach. James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke.
now days people don't know real music if it hit them in the face
While many were screaming over the British Band Invasion, I was a Motown Girl DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY. STILL AM TODAY.
You just "hit the nail on the head" ... Today's singers don't know what real music is these days ... especially the cRap singers. @@darimullens9821
Heaven!
LOL...I remember my Mom scolding me once for running out to the street in front on the house and dancing when I heard this song on the radio...I truly thought it was the baaadest thing out ...mom hollered: boy!...u better get out of that street and I mean it!"
Martha would not have approved

we had the best music in the sixties
This song makes you feel happy!!!
OMG. Martha Reeves had a set of pipes that just would not quit. Love listening to her music in August of 2021.
The music I grew up with. There used to be so much music that would just make you HAPPY and want to dance every time it came on! What happened to all that great music? It's here on RUclips. Let's dance!
It's 2024 Who's Listening 👊✌️
Soul Music Forever 👍
Me!
I was born in 1952. I love this stuff. I think the 60s (and slightly into the 70s) was the best music ever. The soul music and the rock & roll. Motown (and the Philly soul, which didn't get as much attention). Plus The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix - the best music ever.
The best!!
Me too!
Listening 🎶 in 2024 best music ever🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊
I use to could not wait for Martha to say I can't forget the Motorcity representing the D.I lived right down the street from Motown in 1967 and saw a lot of acts in our neighborhood not really knowing they were going to be famous Martha was a receptionist at Motown I remember her front gaped teeth I also remember two of the Vandellas being Marthas sisters Classy ladies the outfits were on point too my mom dressed like that.
-Even a few who tried to copy & do their own version of this 1964,65 Motown monster mega hit just really couldn't come close! ,,,Even much of todays high tech aided songs still get blown away in comparison. And just think, that this was only but 1 early to mid 60s Motown mega hit.
Don't know why todays people can't create such a cool song like this
As fresh today as the day it was recorded, a true classic.
This was a Great song! I'm not feeling well, at the moment; but this certainly cheered me up. I always Loved Martha Reeves and the Vandellas.
How the crap do you not dance to this song??!!
I was 15 years old when this came out .helped me through some tough times.
This has to be the single best rock anthem, period. MOTOWN will always rock.
This music will always exist, just play it! As much as Martha's voice gave this song its voice the Motown band gave it a lowdown thump on your heartstring with that driving bass. People instinctively knew and understood the music they were playing, no electronic augmentation just raw soul and genius
Ronnie was beautiful. Cheerful. Talented. We danced in the streets with her in New York City. I was in diapers. My mom was always young @ heart. Singing @ home.cooking. Cleaning up. School. Homework. Music always blaring @ my mom’s home. No one knew drugs. Music & real friends. Momma was no joke. We lived well.
Martha made the scene and she brought her Vandelas along as well.
Pretty hard to beat a deal like that.
Rocked out on this while standing on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. listening on my transistor radio waiting for a bus. Didn't know that just in a few weeks I would meet my wife of 58 years. The rest is history!
This song helped start the music revolution.. It was exciting. The music SMOKES!!!!. This song released an energy, that some elders felt was 'dangerous'.. How can you listen to this song, and NOT start to move your body.. One of Motowns many finest moments
voice angels and sirens for all young at heart
Remember when music brought us together instead of pitting us against each other. You can't hate each other dancing to this.
Happy Music!!!
From Switzerland to Morocco I been driving my car with this music.. I like it.. I love it

I'm thinking this song came on the scene in 1964 and I turned 6 that Summer of '64. The song was a BIG HIT then and to this day in May of 2022 it STILL IS!!..In addition, I believe this is the ONE Motown hit that went global and touched people EVERYWHERE!!
It's 2022 and i am still listening. Good music.

Wonderful. I heard this when I was 7, over 50 ÿears ago and still love it as much today. Changed my view of magnificent music. X
I grew up on this type of music and it was and still is great. Love Martha and the "V's"! Still rocking this song 57 years later. If i ever get rich...a club that plays Motown, Disco and Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's.
One of the greatest songs ever.
Still gets me up and dancing after all this time.
I am still listening to this song, January 25, 2021. I was 9 years old when this song came out in 1964. Seeing all the violence and protests occurring in the United States today, I think about this song.

Why do all of these soul groups have comments TURNED OFF???? These are GREAT ARTIST and deserve great comments from adoring fans.
Because RUclips has a confusing feature whereby you click made for children or not made for children. A normal person will assume made for children means everyone can see it. But if you choose made for children it will automatically switch your comment section off because supposedly children shouldn't be involved in discussions. Made for children according to RUclips means videos like cartoons.😮 But the not made for children is the one you are supposed to pick. It's so counter intuitive, but RUclips, ever since being taken over by the nazis at Google are making ppl jump through hoops in reality as a way to control content and promote some people at the expense of others.
I was 10 when this came out. I had never heard anything like it! My older sisters and I would just start dancing and singing!
Still sounds great and I'm still dancing and singing to it, now 70!
Can't forget the Motor City!
What beautiful talented women. This music was before I was born good music doesn't die down. Love it.
This was one of My Comadre Mary Lievanos and my song's. We had so MUCH fun in our teen year's. Stopping the car and getting off car and start dancing. Thank God we didn't get hit or cause an accident.

My friend and I saw Martha Reeves and The Vandellas about 3 yrs ago at NYC'S B.B.King's Blues Club. We had front row cafe seats. The show was UTTERLY MAGNIFICENT!!!! Her brother even came out and performed solo. He sounded great with his beautiful and rich baritone. Her sister was singing back up so wonderfully as usual too. Talent definitely runs in the family. We waited after the show and I got her to sign her autograph on my Best Of Martha Reeves and The Vandellas double CD and she was gracious enough to allow us to take a picture with her as well.SUCH CLASS!!! I will cherish my autographed CD forever! She even asked me and my friend if we were singers and we both quickly replied "No, we're nurses!.We wished that we COULD sing!" We all had a nice laugh. We knew that we were in the presence of TRUE MOTOWN ROYALTY!!! This was a night that one could NEVER EVER FORGET!! Thank you Ms. Martha Reeves for a FANTASTIC and MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE!!!!!🌹🌹🌹👏👏👏
Now that was some good music and still is
As a boy born in 1960, I would like to say thank you to all at Motown , for the priveledge of being able to listen to music like this in my life.
The best music ever.
Keep that kinda music.playing.it keeps our.youth alive. Those we or old.our minds or young..as long as.we.can still remember.
Those were the good days growing up in the 60's
😲 I really miss those days
What can you say about Martha & The Vandellas? One of the classiest girl groups to come out in the 60s. Such good songs & music to get up & dance around the house too. Good feel music..
agreed, the Supremes, although good, had music that was very woo-ey, pop-ish and were more oriented towards a mainstream white audience, so they lacked that charisma and fire that we get instead from the music of the Vandellas.
Great great music. I was born 1956 so this music was part of my childhood
Love it so much
One of the best songs ever recorded. Period!!!
My daughter says she wishes she had been born when I was because of this fantastic Motown and all that we had then. Such fun.
Bass and drums groove in that inimitable Motown style! Awesome horns and (of course) vocals! Fabulous summer party tune!
Yup.
You said it all.
And let's not forget the crow bar/tambourine combo struck with the bathroom reverb (mistaken as a chain on the Motown floor).
Music is the Funk Brothers
Glad to say I met Martha Reeves once and got her autograph!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARTHA-JULY 18th............. This song is 50 plus years old and still sounds GREAT !!!!!!!!!!
This is such a great song. The ladies had fantastic vocals. The instrumentals have an interesting sound, they're very full and have a sort of double beat. It sounds like there is a lot going on, like the song was recorded at a party instead of in a studio.
A brilliant and talented proof that you can still dance with these girls 50 years on...and more
