Sad... If today's youth had men like that as their idols, our nation and our cities would be so, sooo much better. They set such good examples through their music. RIP to all.
The great shame of this performance is that in 2020, only Abdul Fakir is still alive while the other original members have passed on. God bless them all, and thanks to RUclips for preserving great American history....🇵🇷🇺🇸😎
Thankfully, he never decided to solo and look for more fame and fortune. I think he once said there were “Four Tops, not Three Tops,” when explaining why he stayed with the group. What a talented lead singer, and what a great group.
Its such an honor to, in this present time be able to literally watch some of the best musicians in the history of music (4 Tops, etc) perform raw, and live. These men were magical

Can we bring this clean and respectful music back? I read that record producers approached Levi Stubbs many times to go out on his own and record without the other 3 "Tops" and he always said no, they were a package deal. He could've made a lot more money but he stayed with the group. His integrity is admirable.
There was no reference made to ALL '60s music, was there? No there wasn't. The comment was "THIS clean and respectful music", referring ONLY to The Four Tops music.

It seems at the 1:44 mark, Levi (the lead singer) noticed on the monitor that the camera angle was blocking out his bandmate on the end, so he moves to the side a little so everyone is seen. A class act! No wonder this group outlasted all the others at Motown!

I would like for someone to make a movie about The Four Tops man these guys were awesome talented good-looking and Levi his voice is the ultimate voice to me.
dont know if he was underrated per se, he and the four tops are widely recognized as the band that defined motown from what I know... but yeah, it's a dying genre and I wish a movie would be made for sure
Don't know if you are aware or not -- he did sing, on film, a musical theater role, and did a terrific job. In the 1986 movie Little Shop of Horrors, Stubbs was the voice of Audrey II, the badass carnivorous alien plant, a major character. The musical Little Shop of Horrors originated on off-Broadway where it had a long run, but more than a decade after the film the show did make it to Broadway. Stubbs's/ Audrey II's songs are on RUclips.
I'm sorry this generation doesn't have this level of talent to listen to. I mean, that's not lip sync. There's layered harmony, the dance moves that don't look like they need mediation. Sorry. This is probably as good as music will ever be. Glad I lived in this time, even if I was just a tot..
Plenty of talented artists these days. What they don't have is the exposure you could get in 1965. There is no Ed Sullivan today exposing top talent to the masses.
Ed Sullivan strictly forbade any song artist or the vocalists in a pop band/rock band, to "lip sync". The Ed Sullivan Show producers; and Ed Sullivan as executive producer, did allow for the artist to bring a studio recording of the music track; as demonstrated here by The Four Tops, if the "original hit song studio recording" had a large orchestra involved... but the vocalists had to sing on the stage live to the "instrumentation only" recording that they brought to the show.

Look how handsome they look in those outfits! A true class act!!! Their balanced, harmonizing voices singing those well-written song is pleasing to my ears. Their songs bring back memories of the times. My eyes are filling with tears of joy, happiness, and wonder why today's artist cannot do this. I'm so happy to see that they sung on The Ed Sullivan Show. At the start of the show they really showed how gracious they are, no pridefulness!
The autumn of 1966 was an EXTREMELY hard time for me. With the help of a girlfriend from high school, who Reached Out for me I not only survived, but have flourished. She and I have been married for 51 years. This song helped to get me through that hard time of my life, and I will always cherish it and The Four Tops.
This song; and the other The Four Tops hit songs as well as The Supremes and The Temptations hit singles, got this Brown Water Navy ordnanceman, and a million other sailors, Marines, Army soldiers, Air Force servicemembers, and Coastguardsmen, stationed in Vietnam's Mekong Delta through all of the ordeals and tribulations of the Vietnam War in that "far away land". Sad to hear of the passing of Abdul ‘Duke’ Fakir - their all gone but their music still resonates in the younger generation - at least that recognize the brillance of the layered harmonies.
