Same goes to Azula. Both of Ursa’s children were being used as tools as Firelord Ozai thinks of Zuko and Azula. Azula deserve her own redemption arc.

I absolutely hated how in the finale it was never revealed what happened to Zuko’s Mom, but the comics made up for it

I can't even remember how many times I cried reading this comic. Ursa's tragic past and her forced banishment, Azula's deteriorating mental state and Zuko's drive to find his mother.

It made me sad because Azula didn’t talk with ursa when she backed to herself and remember everything. She needs to hear “ I love you Azula, I always do” from her own mother not her illusions

I'm glad Ursa decided to get her memories back but.. I feel so bad for Azula.
When I found out she traveled with Team Avatar I thought she would be getting a redemption arc too, but this.. is kind of heartbreaking..
To me, she might be the most tragic character in Avatar.
She seems so desperate, so lost, so unstable and unloved..
She was given many chances to turn back from her dark path. Her hallucinations were of her mother, telling her she *was* loved, reflecting the truth she knew internally but couldn't accept because of her bitterness and pride.
Everyone is given struggles to overcome in their lives. Where does personal responsibility end and unchangeable fate begin? Pity Azula, but she made every choice all on her own. Her misery is self-inflicted. It almost always is.

i already knew she would remain true to her spirit. in a way she wasn't fighting the other side, she was fighting to keep her side from changing.

I’m actually glad they decided to not go with the Ikem is Zuko’s father route. It would completely ruin the “ Your two great grandpa is still fighting in you” development for Zuko

After watching this, everything fell into place. Ozai's treatment of Zuko never fully made sense to me until now. The audience were kids so it made sense for them to leave it out but it's great that it's backed by an actual reason that ties it all together with the rest.
It was actually later revealed in the comic that Zuko isn't Ikem's son. Ursa used it to determine whether or not the letters were actually being read by Ozai.

Yes. Revealing adulterous stuff to kids would have been scandalous and inappropriate. I am glad they didn't otherwise I would have been confused and traumatized as a child.

My biggest hope for Avatar Studios is to animate the comics and tell these kinds of stories.

I know this is 6 months later but according to the wiki she was actually a very strong fire bender. Able to bend blue flames. Though she didn't like to.

My theory
Before Ursa was forced to marry Ozai, she had a child with Ikem and that child was Zuko. Sadly, Ikem only got to spend a very short period of time with his biological son, Zuko because his wife, Ursa, was forced by Azulon to marry his son, Ozai. That means, Ursa and Zuko were all forcibly taken away from Ikem. This is why Zuko had to endure an abusive and tragic childhood under his tyrannical stepfather Ozai and half sister Azula ( This means that both Zuko and Azula have the same mother but they have different fathers, Ikem to Zuko and Ozai to Azula ). I believe that it would make more sense that Ikem was Zuko's biological father and Ozai is Zuko's stepfather. This then would "justify" Ozai's cruelty to Zuko because Zuko was indeed the son of a man named Ikem , and not him. This makes Zuko very much like Klaus from Vampire Diaries and Originals because they both grew up separated from their biological fathers and under the tyrannical fists of their stepfathers who treated them both cruelly.
I'm so proud of Ursa for confronting Ozai and telling him that she no longer fears him.
And of Zuko, for doing the same thing before.
Maybe one day, if my dad gets locked up for what he's done, I'll be able to do the same.

All these years I’m finally at peace with the series. Finished all the seasons in my youth 12 years old now I am 27. I’ve always wondered what happened to zukos mom. Now I know😌
Whoever came up with the idea to use the energybending audio from the season finale for the Mother of Faces strip in the comics is a *genius.*
When ursa is ready to go back to the spirit and remember what happened and zuko said " you dont have to do this, you have such a beautiful life here" you can think how much zuko can sacrifice to let his mother be happy..
Some might say she made the wrong choice, but I glad she chose to remember. Even Ikem could have kept his mouth shut about it, but he didn't because he knew how much it meant to Zuko and how much it would mean to Ursa. Yes their lives might have been "perfect", but it was all built on ignorance and false identities. Zuko deserved his mother, and she deserved to know she was no longer a prisoner of her ignorance. Yes, their lives changed dramatically afterwards, and even came with some dangers and risks, but it was worth it. Kiyi got an older brother she could look up to, a bigger family, and even discovered her firebending abilities. She'll be fine.
have to admit, I think the original intention for her to have been Ozai's perfect match that drifted apart over the treatment of their kids sounds a bit more complex and interesting than what ultimately ended up being the case.
The scene where Ursa Scold Ozai, was easily one of my favorite scenes in the comics. I love that Iroh was there for her. I love that Ozai was finally told off (even in his defeat, he wasn't told). And I loooove that Ursa found the strength to say what she needed to say after all those years of abuse....
Same I absolutely loved that scene. And you could tell it really punished Ozai since he no longer had power over anyone

The mother-son and father-daughter relationships are very common one parent takes one child and that's why Azula and Zuko became who they are, Zuko could have been much kinder if Ursa wasn't banished

its too dark. ATLA aired on nickelodeon, so they wouldnt be allowed to air this on TV because its not super kid friendly. its why a lot of the comics are tragic.

In the comic she mentioned how tortured she was that even though her banishment kept them safe, it was still agonizing not being with them.😢
What’s worse that if she’d got the new face but kept her memories, I think Ursa would’ve been desperately tempted to go back to see & maybe take back her children. Again, it’s excruciating to think about in reminding herself the consequences if she’d gone back😭🥺

The crazy part is I’m happy she was able to return to her life but for some reason azula is the one I wanted to find peace. She was raised by a monster and wanted to be accepted my her mother but was too far gone. I would have hoped they found a way for her to find some kind of redemption even if only temporarily so she could get that connection with her mother in check. Maybe they will give her a side story and explain everything that happened including after she was never seen again.
nah, i think is more of an realistic apreach for her since azula is far different than zuka and ursa, not all victims are innocent people, the only thing that she cares about is her brother zuko

So... while Ozai was a loser lord, Ursa was also responsible for fueling the fire of his dislike of Zuko :/
Also, I am not sure what the writers were trying to do introducing this plot point to delegitimize Zuko's inheritance of the throne. Any reader who has seen the show knows how pivotal the fact that Zuko was the heir to both Sozin and Roku was, so would not buy into this.
She didn’t trick Ozai, he was fully aware that she lied when she mentioned that zuko was ikem’s son and even called her out for it asking her why would she make up an obvious lie. The whole I did this to protect you was probably referring to her helping ozai get rid of his father and making him the new firelord in order to spare zuko’s life.
