Azula is an amazing character. I’ve always liked how she wasn’t a straight villain with no reason to be one like Zhao and Long Feng. While I hate her, her story is so sad that I can’t help but feel kinda bad for her.
Agreed. Zhao and Long Feng are just one dimensional villains while Azula is way complex and she makes the viewers either hate her or love her. Also, she killed Aang straightly without waiting for him to do the full transformation like most of the villains are.
@Ethan If you saw her full history, I doubt it.
@Ethan There's the comics
They aren't completely one-dimensional. While they aren't as fleshed out as the main characters, we do get a glimpse into their backstories. Zhao was a pupil under Jeong Jeong who rejected his teachings of self-discipline in favor of the more destructive aspects of fire bending. He's characterized as a power-hungry narcissist. Long Feng is also power-hungry but he apparently came from a poor family and a rough childhood. So, as he got older he worked tirelessly through the ranks of society and managed to take control of the entire Earth Kingdom while working behind the scenes with the Earth King as a figurehead to maintain his power.
@Ethan Not exactly, but you understand her internal and childhood struggles a bit more.
And what's terrifying is that Azula is just 14!!

Ozai and the Fire Nation may have led her down the wrong path but, at some point she will reach the age where she is responsible for her fate if she continues to move along that path. Life is full of difficult decisions, what is difficult for one may be easy for another. But we all have to make them if we want to prevail and maximize happiness.

I want to know what happens to Azula after Smoke and Shadow. I think she deserves a chance at redemption. After all, she grew up in the same abusive conditions as her brother. The only difference is, she never had the chance to escape it.
No she did grow up under the same conditions as Zuko but her not being redeemed is the point of her arc
I feel for her.
azula's dead...
she was treated better though by ozai
@@annavi1849 this isn’t the trauma olympics
To be honest, the way that how Ozai treated Zuko & Azula like that. It’s because that was the main reason why she was suffering a mental breakdown due to her father’s manipulation with her mind and making her thinks that she becoming a monster.
Ozai at his core is a manchild who never grew up from the phase of: "I want to be better than my brother on something."
She is capable of redemption. She's shown glimpses of humanity throughout the show. Such as how she immediately apologizes to Ty Lee after hurting her feelings, as well as admitting that she's jealous. In that same episode, she also showed concern for Zuko, going to their old beach house, figuring she would find him there and make sure he was okay. She has a lot more depth than people give her credit for, which is why a series about her redemption arc would be VERY much welcomed, even if it's merely in comic book form. She's done terrible things but she was also just a 14-year-old girl (Despite that she looks like she's 18, which does suit her character). It's not too late for her. She sadly never had an Iroh to guide her as Zuko did. I would like if her Iroh would be either Zuko or Ty Lee. I think the journey of Aang and the gang should be put to rest because their journeys feel complete and shouldn't be dragged on. Azula's journey still has a lot of room for exploration.
I agree with you so much... there really should've been an 'Azula Alone' episode in the TV series, or at least something about her redemption arc... she DESERVES IT SO MUCH!!!
Sociopaths tend to mimic empathy if it will get them somewhere. I really don’t think we have solid proof she has any empathy at all. I also don’t think every villain needs a redemption arc.
maybe it's possible in the legend of genji
@@jacobmisal470 Azula did comfort Zuko in the beach episode and wanted to connect with him.
@@jacobmisal470 sociopaths, psychopaths, etc, aren't born, they're made, sadly she was just another victim of another power hungry sociopath.
I feel extremely bad for Azula. She was manipulated by her father at a young age and groomed to be like him and because of it her behaviour didn't sit well with Ursa who just wanted her to reflect on herself. But Azula thought that she did nothing wrong because of her father, leading her to think that her mother doesn't love her and thinks of her as a monster. While she is "grown up" in AtlA we see her true emotions after the Agni Kai. A child that is lost, doesn't know what is right or wrong because of both her parents failing her when she needed them most, raging with anger but crying out of confusion and helplessness. It was Ursa's duty to keep her daughter save from Ozai's ways but failed because she didn't realise how much she favoured Zuko over Azula and gave him more attention in Azula's eyes. It's a typical cliché taken to the extremes.
My question is why did Ursa even marry Ozai if she knew what kind of man he is, and the potential abuse her children could suffer by him?
@@andrew2477 Read the comics. She had a fiance but was unfortunately betrothed to ozai only a short while after her boyfriend proposed. That means she was never supposed to be the firelord's wife in the first place and zuko and azula wouldn't exist.

Ozai never treated her like his daughter, he saw a valuable asset in her, someone who could earn him victories. She went through abuse too, by the very person she respected the most. There was a fourth season planned with her redemption arc but they abadoned it because of the movie. And because Aaron Ehasz is not on board anymore, but only Michael Dante DiMartino in terms of the comics, the quality reduced.

The additions of Azula & Toph along with Zuko's redemption arc thanks to Iroh really helped this series become brilliant and magnificent. Of course having Mark Hamill as a main character is just about always a great idea
Fun fact: In season 2, Azula became a fairly popular character which neither of the creators expected because she was even a worse villain than Zuko. They decided to give her more humanizing moments in season 3 partially because of this and partially because they wanted to give most characters more depth in that season.
She looks her actual age without makeup.
Notice how as azulas mental health deteriorates her voice develops a stronger British accent
It's Azulas primary weakness. Every attempt at a Scottish accent just falls cold and bland. She was never intended to be so verbal
Those two adjectives go well together

Azula is one of the characters where the vast majority of fandom supports the idea of his arc of redemption. She has so much potential, personally I would be very happy to see her receiving some love, that she accepts it, that she opens up little by little in that sense, to see her receiving and giving love. She deserves it :c
it's really sad. She thought ozai loved her but really, ozai just treated her like a weapon

Sad things. :( I would love to see a redemption arc at some point. Please make it happen. Where she regains her sanity.
I feel like She deserves a better ending not a redemption arc for me it will be stranger. She kinda regains her sanity in "Smoke and Shadow"
This would be an amazing choice for the 3rd animated series (i.e. Avatar -> Legend of Korra -> ???).
I would love for her to never see daylight again.
To be honest. I think Azula's character is written as a warning sign in a meta sort of way.
For both those who relate to her, and those who know people like her. Sometimes people like this never change and Azula gives us a brilliant window to look into their thought process and descent into madness.
It's tragic for sure, but not irreparable. The problem is, as much as I would love to see her come around, I don't think she would choose it. Iroh wrapped up the entire idology in one sentence:
"Pride is not the opposite of shame, but it's source. Only through humility can one find their own peace"
Azula won't choose that path...
Life is unpredictable. You never know how things go in your life and what path will lie ahead. Perhaps series of unexpected events may change Azula did the better. There are great fanfics showing Azula redemption. And they are done very well.
I feel bad for her but even at a very young age you could see how wicked, manipulative and psychopathic she is, just like her father. Towards the end of the series you can see her go full blown crazy when she battles Zuko and Katara. She's not straight up evil, she is a complicated, broken and lost girl who just wanted to be loved, but that doesn't excuse her actions
She managed to manipulate Long Feng even she's just a teenager.

I wonder if Iroh actually save Azula with Zuko at the same time. Maybe she will be a great duo with Zuko
She wouldn’t have listened to Iroh he chose to teach Zuko how to change the fire nation because he saw Azula was following her dad and was gonna turn out evil like him but Zuko was kind and warm hearted like his mother if he picked Azula she would’ve betrayed him and maybe even killed him
Honestly, it’s a situation where it would be harder to save Azula. Ozai payed no attention to Zuko, and always had Azula in his clutches, so there was probably little to no room for Iroh to try to help her. In the comic book, everytime Ursa (Azula and Zuko’s mom) tried to teach Azula right from wrong, Ozai would secretly tell Azula to do bad things again, and praise her for it unlike Zuko who less talented and ignored by his father, so it was easier for him to get the proper guidance from his uncle and mother. It’s sad because Azula was basically screwed being born a prodigy
@@naeshaunedwards7731 And the word "She was born lucky and you were lucky to be born" is just the way of how Ozai wants to "defend" her even though his love to her is 0 and 0x100 = 0.
Azula always thought her dad likes her more but think about it, have we ever seen Ozai and Azula have their own "father-daughter" moment? Ozai only likes to compliment her for being talented but never try to bond to both of his children like Ursa did to Zuko. Even Hakoda who haven't seen his children for a long time still can have time to bond with them in Invasion and mostly with Sokka.
Azula is still one of my favorite characters (Ty Lee, Aang, Appa, & Iroh being the best of course) love her clever, snarky lines. i feel like her mother did her wrong, every child is different and instead of always scolding her a diff strategy is needed, also favouritism would mess up any child.
Her mom did not chid her blindly, she terrorized and triggered zuko every time….her father was the one who did them wrong by choosing favourites. Regardless, azula herself knew she was intense and had people around her like mai and tai lee by making them fear. Fear and manipulation are her ways. She likes being bad and intense. She may be suffering from some mental illness like what zuko mentioned at the end
Sorry but if she were my kid, Zuko's being my favorite. Azula's behavior as a child was cruel and unusual and psychopathic. She did not want to be nice, much less be like Zuko. Ursa is in the right to like Zuko more.
I'm convinced that these are just very cool servey's for the future projects for the avatar universe. I can't wait to see!
I feel bad for her.
Ozai manipulated her
Ursa didn't loved her enough
Zuko and Iroh hated her
Her best friends feared her
Zuko and Iroh hating her is her own fault
Poor azula. And honestly since she's still evil at the end I think she's a total loss cause
Well, people want a redemption but there is nothing wrong with not having a redemption story.
It's more realistic this way. Not everyone get redeemed in real life. Besides, part of it is that she's mentally ill... I don't think even Katara can heal her broken mind.
@@billclark5055 true but it would of still been great tho. Oh well
@@tylermcbean273 nope, people like me like evil characters and redemption arc to her wouldve just ruined her character.
the authors have done a beatiful job with the redemption arc of Zuko, I hope, even if it wont be easy and fast, that we'll have the end of the story of Azula... (with a redemption, please!)
AZULA DESERVES ALL THE THINGS I'M SO MAD WE DIDN'T GET SEASON FOUR
The comics are basically a s4 5 and 6
Skip to 11:20 if you want to find out about what happened to Azula after the show, everything else is just a recap of what we saw on ATLA

BEST SCENE IN THE WHOLE SERIES
How heartless are you
It is the best one... in a way.
Wren I watch it, I know that she totally deserve that but still feel sorry for her.
Azula is one of the greatest villain
Agreed, her and ozai made atla great.
@@azrael_morningstar so you’re just going to ignore Zuko, the best character in the series?
@@anatoldenevers237 zuko was awesome!!
@@anatoldenevers237 wait, isn't zuko an anti-hero ?
@@ero-samairianto625 For most Season 2 and Season 3 he is, but in Season 1 he's absolutely a villain, and he turns villainous again at the end of Season 2. He doesn't really become a hero until The Day Of Black Sun.
5:50 The moment she jinxed herself
I rewatched ATLA a few months ago but somehow forgot about her downfall which I realize now never properly understood her character.
Glad I found out about the podcast and this video. Amazing character. Awesome villain. Always loved her.
I would like to see where her story goes after Smoke and Shadows
The Most Powerful, Strongest and Scary Princess Ever at Animation Movies... princess Azula is Perfect Enemy for Avatar
“My mother thought I was a monster”
“She was right but it still hurt”
Man I feel SO sorry for that girl. She’s believed that she isn’t worthy of ❤️ and thinks only fear is the only source of power. But even after all of that, Ursa love her all along, but she still doesn’t accept it because if loved her, then all of her assumptions and expectations were all for nothing!
They should’ve made a season 4 to last air bender I want to see this animated
I’m not convinced azula can actually be redeemed, even after she gets dethroned, Ozai is thrown in prison, and she has every opportunity to change her ways even when Zuko and team avatar try their hardest to help her she still surprisingly remains loyal to her father and even when she gets free she remains the cold savage individual she is. Cruelty seems hardwired into her DNA and I don’t believe she’ll ever even be able to change herself
Sad but true.
Well comics only cover her story up two years after the end of the show. Azula has a lot of emotional baggage. She will not change overnight. It took Zuko quite some time to figure out that chasing his fathers approval will not bring him happiness. There are still decades before Korras time where we know nothing. And in the smoke and shadow I would not say she is loyal to Ozai. She did tell Ukano Ozai is not part of the plan. Perhaps at some point she will change. Possibilities are endless , and her story is unfinished. Zuko telling Azula he will love no matter what did have an impact on her.
4:46 when you hit the bell it makes that noise
Keep being awesome! Love the vids you make!
I feel bad for Azula, she just needs more love ❤️
Hey izumi
@@zuko4113 Hey Father

@@azrael_morningstar She needs more love and why revenge though?
Yeyyyy I love azula soOOoOOooOOOOO MUCH
Alltime crush haha
@@Shadow-gm9ct hello shadow
Azula haters don’t understand her complexity nor her story and they refuse to look into it. It doesn’t excuse her actions yes but it’s the whole entire reason on why she is the way she is
I like to think that Azula finally realized that she was wrong and then found the Mother of Faces, got a new face and decided to live a nice, peaceful, and content life that she deserved deep-down.
I actually think this story can fit well for her.
