  • Time to plant the squashes. I've held off because of all the rain, slugs and snails. But it needs doing. Creating several beds just for squashes, will give some good cover against weeds as they grow. Plus they taste great too.

Hello there, a fab vlog again.
My back garden in South Yorkshire is very small and I try to cram in as much veg as I can. My squashes are grown in 30ltr buckets. This year they will be Patti Pan, Jack be little, Uchki Kuri ( my fav) and a new one for me is Butterbush ( a bush veriety of the Butternut). Hope we are getting a lot of sunshine soon. I am so sick of the rain now.

Some great varieties there. Uchki kuri is one of my faves too. Cooks so well. Love the bucket idea 👌. Good to see lots of ways people grow.
And yes the rain is just continuous this year. I'm lucky my plot copes well with it. The woodchip definitely helps with this being on a slope.

    Hi Helen
I grew Uchiki Kiri ast year which made great wine. I am growing Small Sugar again (roasting and marmalade) and trying Butterbush. Let's hope the slugs let them grow.

Ooo now the wine sounds an interesting idea 💡 never thought of that. I've already lost 2 plants to slugs 😭

Did you try to chit the spaghetti squash Helen I did it was so much easier as you can see what they are doing. We prefer croquettes to winter squash. It I did sow a Uchiki Red this year. I put straw all around the strawberry pots in the poly and the sparrows got in and made a mess 😂. Hope your squash all do well, happy gardening 👩‍🌾, Ali 🌧️🌧️🇨🇦

No but I think next year I will. May be easier. Disappointing, but at least it was just the one variety.... then again I've already lost two of the planted squashed due to slugs 😭. I've got some shredded rapeseed I'm going to put under the strawberries I'm loosing so many. It's the stuff I'm using for the chickens. Hopefully will work. 🤞

Another fab vlog. I'll be growing just butternut squash this year. I will have to be brave and try a different variety in future. TBH I'm a little nervous, I've only ever grown and eaten butternut.

There is so many varieties to choose from. Some great eating some not so much. But give a couple of different varieties a year. You may find something you really like. 🥰

Not very easily. I've lost 2 plants already 😭. I was going out in the evenings and collecting slugs to reduce numbers. But things are still getting munched
